:00:10. > :00:13.Good evening and welcome to BBC London News.

:00:14. > :00:19.People, forced from their homes and businesses

:00:20. > :00:22.by major flooding three weeks ago, have still not been able to return.

:00:23. > :00:26.A burst water main in Islington caused extensive flood damage,

:00:27. > :00:29.but some residents and business owners have had quite different

:00:30. > :00:31.experiences getting back on their feet, as Emilia

:00:32. > :00:42.This is what Jackie's bedroom looked like three weeks ago. Devastated and

:00:43. > :00:46.completely destroyed by flood water. Almost a month on, it's looking a

:00:47. > :00:51.little better. But there's still a lot of work to be done. It will mean

:00:52. > :00:55.doors, frames, skirting boards, everything's got to be taken out.

:00:56. > :00:58.Even though she's had to sleep on her sofa, Jackie says the response

:00:59. > :01:02.to the flooding has been efficient. I think all the people that have

:01:03. > :01:07.worked on it have been marvellous. It was slow at the start. It seemed

:01:08. > :01:10.to take ages for them to get moving. Once they did, everybody's done a

:01:11. > :01:16.wonderful job. I wouldn't like to have done the job they've had to do.

:01:17. > :01:20.Around 80 residents in Islington were evacuated after this three-foot

:01:21. > :01:23.wide water main burst. Many homes and shops were two metres deep in

:01:24. > :01:28.water. The flood meant the streets were covered in mud, silt and even

:01:29. > :01:33.rats and the clean-up effort took days. Today it all looked like it

:01:34. > :01:36.was back to normal, but local businesses have been hit hard. Many,

:01:37. > :01:39.like this gallery, lost a lot of their stock before Christmas and

:01:40. > :01:47.they're still trying to get rid of the damp. I need to empty that out.

:01:48. > :01:52.That's full of water. I come down through the night. Three weeks on?

:01:53. > :01:57.Yeah. The financial side I don't know if we can fully recover from it

:01:58. > :02:01.as an independent business. Our concern is that as a community for a

:02:02. > :02:06.lot of us it's the same. Some of us won't be able to survive the impact

:02:07. > :02:09.this will have. Thames Water told us they apologised again to residents

:02:10. > :02:13.and also shop owners for the inconvenience. In a statement they

:02:14. > :02:16.said they were supporting their customers every step of the way to

:02:17. > :02:20.help get their lives back to normal and their insurance claims sorted.

:02:21. > :02:24.This month saw similar floods in Lewisham, Stoke Newington and

:02:25. > :02:28.Streatham. It's because most of the pipes are over 150 years old.

:02:29. > :02:32.Repairing them is now a priority. But here in Camden passage, the

:02:33. > :02:35.damage has been done. For these shops, it wasn't a merry Christmas.

:02:36. > :02:40.Many of them still don't know when they'll be able to open again.

:02:41. > :02:42.A man's been stabbed to death in a street

:02:43. > :02:46.Police were called to Adelaide Street at about 7.30am.

:02:47. > :02:48.A man in his 30s was found seriously injured

:02:49. > :02:53.Police say they think they know who the man is, but he hasn't been

:02:54. > :02:57.The area is known to be popular with rough sleepers.

:02:58. > :02:59.After nearly 50 years running her beloved shop,

:03:00. > :03:01.Peggy Hawkes passed away recently, leaving a hole in the

:03:02. > :03:03.Blackheath community none thought could be filled.

:03:04. > :03:06.But her family, helped by local volunteers,

:03:07. > :03:09.have decided to carry on the way she would have wanted,

:03:10. > :03:21.It's a shop that hasn't changed for six decades. Hi, you OK? Even the

:03:22. > :03:26.till at Pegga Stores is the same as the one used in the nostalgic TV

:03:27. > :03:31.comedy, open all hours. It's the way Peggy wanted it to stay for the 43

:03:32. > :03:35.years she ran it behind the counter. Since her recent death, she's been

:03:36. > :03:40.so sadly missed, her family, supported by local volunteers, have

:03:41. > :03:46.kept it going in her memory. Some of the people that are out of work and

:03:47. > :03:52.stuff would come in and ask mum for money. She'd quite often say, look,

:03:53. > :03:56.here's a couple of bob, go and get a cup of tea. Even if somebody said to

:03:57. > :04:00.her, you know they're never going to come back with that. She said, no,

:04:01. > :04:04.if I made them feel better today, it's worth every penny. Other than a

:04:05. > :04:09.lick of paint, many of the features Peggy loved have been preserved. The

:04:10. > :04:12.shop sells cards, balls of string and knick-knacks, several local

:04:13. > :04:17.customers have been coming here for more than 30 years. She's just a

:04:18. > :04:22.really, really nice lady. It just has a kind of old fashioned niceness

:04:23. > :04:27.about it, this shop. Yeah. Do you think it's nice that it can carry on

:04:28. > :04:30.even if she's not here? Yeah, it's always well stocked. You can find

:04:31. > :04:35.things here that you wouldn't find anywhere else. That's the sore of

:04:36. > :04:39.woman she was, so caring. That's why she was so popular. Everybody knew

:04:40. > :04:42.her. People came from miles away to come in this shop, not just because

:04:43. > :04:47.of what she sold in the shop, but to see my mum. The family says they've

:04:48. > :04:51.had offers to buy the shop all the time. But they're determined to try

:04:52. > :04:53.to keep it going as long as they can, with the help of their

:04:54. > :04:57.neighbours in Peggy's memory Let's have a quick look

:04:58. > :05:05.at the weather with Lucy Martin. Good evening. It's been a lovely day

:05:06. > :05:09.for the bank holiday, cold and bright. As we move through into

:05:10. > :05:14.tonight, we hold onto the cold theme. We will see a widespread

:05:15. > :05:19.frost developing and fog into the early hours. We're staying dry

:05:20. > :05:22.through the night, that widespread frost developing quite rapidly. I

:05:23. > :05:26.think we'll see a few fog patches into the early hours, though.

:05:27. > :05:30.Temperatures falling to freezing, slightly cooler in the countryside.

:05:31. > :05:34.It's a cold, frosty and foggy start to the day. The fog patches could be

:05:35. > :05:37.dense. Take extra care if you're out on the road. Plenty of cloud around,

:05:38. > :05:41.but it's still cold. Temperatures reaching a mix mum of six degrees

:05:42. > :05:44.Celsius. Now, I leave you with the outlook.

:05:45. > :05:48.Take care if you catch one of those fog patches.

:05:49. > :05:53.That's it, we're back tomorrow morning in breakfast. From everyone

:05:54. > :06:04.on the team, have a lovely evening. Bye-bye.

:06:05. > :06:10.Good evening. It's a wintry night out there. Temperatures as low as

:06:11. > :06:14.minus three in one or two places already. For some of us the frost

:06:15. > :06:19.never shifted all day long. This shot was taken in Somerset. Tonight,

:06:20. > :06:20.some
