:05:18. > :05:19.but the UK barbering industry is difficult to regulate

:05:23. > :05:24.For some in the capital, this is causing huge problems.
:05:25. > :05:29.He got a fungal infection after his barber used dirty
:05:30. > :05:33.In the summer of 2015 I started to get some pretty bad bumps
:05:34. > :05:35.on my head and there would be pus coming out,
:05:36. > :05:39.and every time I would wake up I would look down and there would be
:05:40. > :05:42.spots of blood on my pillow, so I was put
:05:43. > :05:49.But nothing, it would subside but come back straight after that.
:05:50. > :05:52.It was quite painful, quite itchy, I wasn't able to shave
:05:53. > :06:09.Dirty clippers or razors at barber shops can put customers at risk
:06:10. > :06:10.of bacterial and viral infections, like folliculitis, herpes
:06:11. > :06:16.We are seeing more and more of this and if the barber isn't trained,
:06:17. > :06:18.then in fact what can happen is there is an entry
:06:19. > :06:21.of bacteria into the scalp, the hair becomes infected
:06:22. > :06:26.If you are trained you would know it's very important

:06:44. > :06:46.The councils, I think, need to get involved with health
:06:47. > :06:50.and safety and check - not shut down people, help people,

:06:56. > :06:59.At the London School of Barbering, hygiene is high up on the prejudice
:07:00. > :07:02.for the students must complete three months of training before they can
:07:03. > :07:09.In the USA and Australia you have to work X amount
:07:10. > :07:12.of hours to gain a license, here in the UK you don't,
:07:13. > :07:15.I think that's something that is essential to the health
:07:16. > :07:17.and safety of our customers, you wouldn't go to a mechanic that
:07:18. > :07:24.We contacted all of London's 32 councils but none could tell us how
:07:25. > :07:28.many barber shops operated in the area and only one
:07:29. > :07:33.So while it doesn't look like anything will be changing soon,
:07:34. > :07:36.it's vital that customers are aware of the risks and always
:07:37. > :07:47.Next: There are questions tonight over the future
:07:48. > :07:53.Critics say it's on the verge of collapse after accounts

:09:20. > :09:24.donors. I think it's nearly dead and it's about time we put it out of its
:09:25. > :09:30.misery. I think the current managed to break with the previous one and
:09:31. > :09:33.make sure he doesn't sign the guarantee in order to fulfil the
