:01:25. > :01:30.Police Commissioner took office a few months ago -
:01:31. > :01:33.she made it very clear that knife crime would be a "top
:01:34. > :01:35.priority" for the Met. So far this year - 13 teenagers have
:01:36. > :01:39.lost their lives to knife crime - that's more than the
:01:40. > :01:41.whole of last year. Cressida Dick says "using stop
:01:42. > :01:43.and search" would help bring We'll talk more about that
:01:44. > :01:47.in a moment and look First, Sonja Jessup reports
:01:48. > :01:52.from Thornton Heath. Yet another police cordon in
:01:53. > :01:54.London, yet another young life lost This one a schoolboy,
:01:55. > :02:01.just 15 years old. This latest stabbing
:02:02. > :02:02.happened here in Thornton Police and paramedics
:02:03. > :02:14.rushed here but could not save the teenager who was dead
:02:15. > :02:21.just before midnight. Local resident are
:02:22. > :02:22.sick the violence. This man told me he
:02:23. > :02:24.was leaving the area. I was speaking to
:02:25. > :02:26.the man in the cafe the other day and he said there has
:02:27. > :02:30.been 12 stabbings in the last It is silly what they
:02:31. > :02:33.do to one another. It is hurtful really
:02:34. > :02:37.because a lot of it seems like black gangs
:02:38. > :02:39.and they are fighting The murder of a 15-year-old
:02:40. > :02:48.comes just 24 hours after another stabbing,
:02:49. > :02:51.a 19-year-old man killed in Old Kent 13 young victims have
:02:52. > :02:55.lost their life to knife crime in the capital so far
:02:56. > :02:58.this year, already more than the previous year when 12
:02:59. > :03:04.teenagers died. Every month almost 650 young
:03:05. > :03:07.Londoners are victims of serious violence, most from the poorest
:03:08. > :03:09.and most disadvantaged communities. It sparked calls for more use
:03:10. > :03:12.of the controversial stop and search The Commissioner and Home Secretary
:03:13. > :03:26.say it is a useful tool. In London, about one in three stop
:03:27. > :03:29.and search results in something positive being found in,
:03:30. > :03:38.something you should not have so I think that is quite
:03:39. > :03:40.a high proportion. It is like we're living in the wild
:03:41. > :03:46.wild West round here. Despite the fear of knife crime,
:03:47. > :03:48.some residents in Thornton Heath are furious about the use
:03:49. > :03:50.of stop and search. This woman who does not want to give
:03:51. > :03:54.her name said they do not They cannot come here
:03:55. > :03:57.with their stop and search because they have done it
:03:58. > :03:59.for so many years around here and that does not go down too
:04:00. > :04:06.well because a lot of the officers who have got that
:04:07. > :04:08.uniform, they think they are Almighty God and they come in with
:04:09. > :04:11.their overpowering aggressiveness, The 15-year-old boy who died
:04:12. > :04:16.here has not been identified but has been locally named
:04:17. > :04:18.as Jermaine Goupall. Our Political Correspondent Karl is
:04:19. > :04:28.here, with more on Stop and Search. It's been one of the most pressing
:04:29. > :04:43.issues for the Commissioner Yes, she addressed that early on
:04:44. > :04:48.just one week after she took over. She said knife crime, violent crime
:04:49. > :04:54.is my main priority and I will be judged on that as commissioner. She
:04:55. > :04:58.also said, stop and search is a tool that I want my officers to use and I
:04:59. > :05:05.will back them if they use it, as long as they use it correctly. She
:05:06. > :05:10.said that early on. The day the Home Secretary wrote in the Times saying
:05:11. > :05:15.yes, she backs that position. We need to do something to get violent
:05:16. > :05:20.crime down among young people. A similar letter written by Cressida
:05:21. > :05:26.Dick as well the day. Something of a change the situation from three
:05:27. > :05:29.years ago when Theresa the Home Secretary, said to police forces,
:05:30. > :05:35.you need to bring stop and search down. It was not being applied
:05:36. > :05:42.properly. It went down 60%. There is no move going back the other way.
:05:43. > :05:51.That is now a move going the other way. What about the near? -- the
:05:52. > :05:54.London's Mayor ques-mac Nobody is suggesting that we should
:05:55. > :05:56.have stop and search Nobody is saying there
:05:57. > :05:59.should be indiscriminate I am saying, I understand,
:06:00. > :06:02.I have been a critic of disproportionate use of stop
:06:03. > :06:05.and search on black young Londoners and young lesion
:06:06. > :06:07.but I want to assure Londoners that the game changer is not simply
:06:08. > :06:10.better training of police officers but the body camera means
:06:11. > :06:21.when you encounter a police officer, being recorded by our body video.
:06:22. > :06:27.That is the biggest roll-out on any police force in the planet. They
:06:28. > :06:32.have to go through 30,000 officers but the idea is it will give
:06:33. > :06:36.confidence on both sides so people who are being stopped and searched
:06:37. > :06:41.will know if the officer Ms Bis -- believes, it will because it on
:06:42. > :06:46.video but also gives confidence to the police officer in case it is a
:06:47. > :06:50.complaint made against them, they will have the video to back it up.
:06:51. > :06:54.The true test will be if the increase in stop and search brings
:06:55. > :06:58.down the surge in violent crime we are seeing at the moment. Thank you

:07:22. > :07:24.that happened four years ago. 28-year-old Jason Marshall pretended
:07:25. > :07:27.to be a policeman and secret It was thought the victim had died
:07:28. > :07:31.in an accidental fire - until a relative stumbled
:07:32. > :07:32.across a video Our Home Affairs Correspondent Nick
:07:33. > :07:51.Beake has the story. Our bungalow in a quiet street in
:07:52. > :07:56.west London, a visitor arrives. He has come to kill. Over the next few
:07:57. > :08:03.hours were acting as a police officer, he will attack his victim
:08:04. > :08:07.and leave him for dead. It is all captured on CCTV. Jason Marshall
:08:08. > :08:16.nearly got away with it. On his way out, he set fire to the property. In
:08:17. > :08:22.2013 investigators concluded Peter Fasoli had died in an accidental
:08:23. > :08:25.blaze. Some of Peter Fasoli's possessions, including his computer,
:08:26. > :08:31.had been recovered from his flat after the fire. They were kept in
:08:32. > :08:34.storage for more than a year. Then his nephew out of curiosity thought
:08:35. > :08:39.he would have a look at the hard drives. At that point, he discovered
:08:40. > :08:45.the video which showed his uncle had been murdered. It is disappointing
:08:46. > :08:49.that the CCTV was not seen until 18 months later but I am satisfied the
:08:50. > :08:59.initial investigation into the cause of the fire was sufficient. Again,
:09:00. > :09:03.there was no pathological evidence to suggest third party involvement.
:09:04. > :09:09.Marshall had smuggled his victim while classic FM played in the
:09:10. > :09:15.background. He then drained his bank account and fled the country. Three
:09:16. > :09:20.weeks later at this flat in Rome, he strangled a 67-year-old Italian man
:09:21. > :09:24.he had met on the same website. Days later, posing as an official from
:09:25. > :09:28.the British Embassy, he tried to kill another man. He was caught and
:09:29. > :09:33.jailed in Italy for both crimes and brought home to stand trial for the
:09:34. > :09:39.west London killing. In the dock he claimed he had no memory of the
:09:40. > :09:42.attack. A killer who thought he had covered his tracks and fooled
:09:43. > :09:47.investigators, but the emergence of this evidence has no brought him to
:09:48. > :09:50.justice. -- has now brought him to justice.
:09:51. > :09:53.The London Fire Brigade has drafted in 60 counsellors to help treat
:09:54. > :09:55.traumatised firefighters who tackled the blaze at Grenfell Tower.
:09:56. > :09:58.The figure is more than ten times the number who normally
:09:59. > :10:01.The crew involved in the rescue operation have described seeing
:10:02. > :10:07.Cladding is to be removed from the Cancer Centre
:10:08. > :10:09.at Guy's Hospital in Central London over fire safety concerns.
:10:10. > :10:12.Samples of the rain screen cladding were sent for tests after the fire
:10:13. > :10:18.However, the Trust says that it's received advice
:10:19. > :10:21.from the London Fire Brigade that the 14 storey building remains

:10:52. > :10:57.Police have confirmed they have had a huge response to this appeal and
:10:58. > :11:01.are following several lines of inquiry. Any people would have seen
:11:02. > :11:06.this shocking footage which was taking on Putney Bridge behind me.
:11:07. > :11:11.It shows a woman walking along Putney Bridge and on the opposite
:11:12. > :11:16.direction and male jogger coming towards her, as he meets her he
:11:17. > :11:21.appears to push her into the road, into the path of an oncoming bus.
:11:22. > :11:27.That bus has to swerve very quickly and dramatically out of her way in
:11:28. > :11:32.order not to hit her. Police say she could have sustained much more heavy
:11:33. > :11:36.injuries than she did. She only suffered minor injuries. Following
:11:37. > :11:40.the incident, the bus stopped and many of the passengers got off the
:11:41. > :11:47.bus and tended to the woman to see if she was oche. 15 minutes later,
:11:48. > :11:55.that same jogger came back along Putney Bridge and the woman tried to
:11:56. > :12:01.stop him. But he did not acknowledge her and would not stop. He just
:12:02. > :12:06.continued jogging. This incident happened on the 5th of May at around
:12:07. > :12:10.7:40am in the morning, many people would have been driving to work or
:12:11. > :12:13.walking along the bridge. It is these people the Met police want to
:12:14. > :12:18.talk to. In a statement they said they were still keen to here from
:12:19. > :12:22.anyone who has information who has not yet come forward. They have also
:12:23. > :12:28.issued an image of the man they would like to speak to, he is
:12:29. > :12:32.described as white, early 30s, short brown here and was wearing a light
:12:33. > :12:38.grey tee shot and dark blue shorts. Anyone with information should

:14:18. > :14:30.The average speed has dropped from 9.6 mph in 2014 to 9.2 mph now.
:14:31. > :14:33.The transport watchdog wants TfL to take action and consider
:14:34. > :14:40.congestion charges and increasing minicabs which it says are adding
:14:41. > :14:46.It is serious, people are abandoning the buses because they are becoming
:14:47. > :14:52.We want to see longer operational bus priorities,
:14:53. > :14:54.red routes operating 24/7 and renewal of parking controls
:14:55. > :14:57.on streets the buses operate on and perhaps a congestion charge
:14:58. > :15:10.Transport for London says it is investing ?20 million every
:15:11. > :15:12.year on more bus priority measures and that passengers
:15:13. > :15:16.Why are there are so many empty buses in London?
:15:17. > :15:23.I promise you most of the buses have a lot of people on them.
:15:24. > :15:33.People rely on them, 6.5 million people a day rely
:15:34. > :15:37.on the bus service but we have taken some buses out of the centre
:15:38. > :15:41.of London, not just Oxford Street but in general across London,
:15:42. > :15:43.reinvesting the bus miles out in the suburbs.
:15:44. > :15:45.London buses are a critical part of the transport network,
:15:46. > :15:48.with congestion, the ongoing challenge is how to keep them
:15:49. > :15:57.They're better known for transportation than
:15:58. > :16:00.trendy restaurants - but shipping containers are fast
:16:01. > :16:03.becoming the new home of shops and businesses in the capital.
:16:04. > :16:05.The latest temporary development will be in a car
:16:06. > :16:08.park in Camberwell - where the news has received a mixed
:16:09. > :16:10.reception, as Gareth Furby has been finding out.
:16:11. > :16:17.It is a car park in Camberwell but soon it could be filling up with
:16:18. > :16:20.these, shipping containers and turning into a new restaurant and
:16:21. > :16:25.retail centre based on a new use for these metal boxes.

:16:28. > :16:32.In Shoreditch where this all started back in 2007,
:16:33. > :16:45.the businesses inside the boxes seem happy.

:16:59. > :17:01.unattainable at these levels so you can do it
