0:00:00 > 0:00:12That's all from the BBC News at Six.

0:00:12 > 0:00:13Coming up on BBC London News.

0:00:13 > 0:00:15The Mayor accuses the government of abandoning Londoners over air

0:00:15 > 0:00:20pollution calling it a scandal.

0:00:20 > 0:00:22We have been told overnight London cannot bid for that.

0:00:22 > 0:00:25We'll explain why and hear what the government has to say.

0:00:25 > 0:00:30Also tonight...

0:00:30 > 0:00:33It is such a senseless, senseless things to do. That he is not here

0:00:33 > 0:00:34with us.

0:00:34 > 0:00:42A mother appeals for help to catch her son's killer.

0:00:42 > 0:00:44He was out with friends and stabbed to death

0:00:45 > 0:00:46for his Rolex watch.

0:00:46 > 0:00:48Plus - a warning about Black Friday from police over shopping fraud.

0:00:48 > 0:00:52And a fox in the family - how an adopted cub is making himself

0:00:52 > 0:00:58at home in Hertfordshire.

0:00:58 > 0:01:01A very good evening to you and welcome to the programme.

0:01:01 > 0:01:04He's accused the Government of abandoning Londoners

0:01:04 > 0:01:11affected by air pollution.

0:01:11 > 0:01:14The Mayor says it's a scandal that our city won't be eligible

0:01:14 > 0:01:16for a new multi-million pound Clean Air Fund.

0:01:16 > 0:01:22Sadiq Khan was giving evidence to a joint inquiry at the Commons

0:01:22 > 0:01:23into improving air quality. to a joint inquiry at the Commons

0:01:23 > 0:01:25The government said London already receives a settlement from them

0:01:25 > 0:01:27to improve air quality and reduce harmful emissions.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29Louisa Preston reports.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32A message from primary school children about the poor quality of

0:01:32 > 0:01:37the air they breathe in the capital. These young people from Chestnuts

0:01:37 > 0:01:40primary School in Haringey were petitioning Downing Street because

0:01:40 > 0:01:47they go to school where pollution levels break the law.It is bad for

0:01:47 > 0:01:51the children because our playground is next to a busy road. That is

0:01:51 > 0:01:56really not good for our health.Ever pollution is causing a lot of deaths

0:01:56 > 0:02:02and diseases. Maybe if it cannot be stopped it should be reduced

0:02:02 > 0:02:05somehow.Diesel vehicles are the biggest cause of the problem in

0:02:05 > 0:02:10London and in the budget the Chancellor increased tax on diesel

0:02:10 > 0:02:16cars and announced £220 million for a Clean Air Fund but the capital

0:02:16 > 0:02:21will not get any of it, something the mayor says is a scandal. The

0:02:21 > 0:02:29government is saying there is £220 million. We cannot receive any of

0:02:29 > 0:02:35that. It is not sustainable to expect a London mayor to do this

0:02:35 > 0:02:37investment to help local authorities without help from central

0:02:37 > 0:02:41government.It is not just the mayors saying the government is not

0:02:41 > 0:02:45going far enough. We want bigger taxation that could have led to a

0:02:45 > 0:02:49bigger fund to help people get out of their diesel car and switch to

0:02:49 > 0:02:54alternative forms of transport. Clean air is a complex problem with

0:02:54 > 0:02:59pollution coming from construction vehicles, boilers, farming, wood

0:02:59 > 0:03:08fires and even car tyres as they wear down. The government insists it

0:03:08 > 0:03:11is cleaning up the air as fast as it can but with children starting to

0:03:11 > 0:03:14make a stand and every person in the capital breathing in air that

0:03:14 > 0:03:16exceeds global guidelines it is an issue not likely to go away.

0:03:16 > 0:03:21Louisa, the Mayor not holding back over this?

0:03:21 > 0:03:28He is not. He is not happy. He made that clear on Twitter. He said it is

0:03:28 > 0:03:31a scandal the city will not be eligible for the government clean

0:03:31 > 0:03:39air fund. He added... We heard yesterday the Chancellor is

0:03:39 > 0:03:46increasing taxes on diesel cars to create this 220 million Clean Air

0:03:46 > 0:03:51Fund. Local councils will be able to apply for money but London will not

0:03:51 > 0:03:55because of its devolved powers. We know Sadiq Khan has put air

0:03:55 > 0:03:59pollution as a top priority and introduce the T charge last month

0:03:59 > 0:04:05and we know the ultra emission zone will be put in place next year. The

0:04:05 > 0:04:10oldest and most polluting vehicles with the T charge pay extra to come

0:04:10 > 0:04:14into London and with the low emission zone the older cars will

0:04:14 > 0:04:19have an additional charge put on them. What is the government saying?

0:04:19 > 0:04:24We have had a statement from the Department night saying the Mayor of

0:04:24 > 0:04:27London has received a comprehensive funding settlement from the

0:04:27 > 0:04:43government worth more than 5 billion . Next year, the government will

0:04:43 > 0:04:47publish a clean air strategy to set out new areas of tackling air

0:04:47 > 0:04:52pollution. The mayor feels annoyed he cannot get his hands on any of

0:04:52 > 0:04:56this money announced yesterday because of the problems we have in

0:04:56 > 0:04:59London, and he believes the government should do more to help

0:04:59 > 0:05:07people that suffer with high air pollution in the capital.Thank you.

0:05:07 > 0:05:09A senseless attack that has left a family broken -

0:05:09 > 0:05:11the words of the mother of builder Danny Pearce,

0:05:11 > 0:05:14who was stabbed to death in Greenwich while being robbed

0:05:14 > 0:05:15of his Rolex watch.

0:05:15 > 0:05:17Four months on, the Met is renewing its appeal

0:05:17 > 0:05:20for information about his killers with a £10,000 reward

0:05:20 > 0:05:22for information that leads to a secure conviction.

0:05:22 > 0:05:24Helen Mulroy reports.

0:05:24 > 0:05:27Enjoying a night out with friends.

0:05:27 > 0:05:31This was Danny Pearce in Greenwich on the 14th of July this year.

0:05:31 > 0:05:35Just hours after this video was taken, Danny was dead -

0:05:35 > 0:05:44stabbed as he made his way home, all for his Rolex watch.

0:05:45 > 0:05:47He was my baby.

0:05:47 > 0:05:49All our lives have changed.

0:05:49 > 0:05:53All of them.

0:05:53 > 0:05:58How you see me I have changed into two people. I am one person at work

0:05:58 > 0:06:06because I cannot be like this at work. When I come home... This is

0:06:06 > 0:06:08how I am.

0:06:08 > 0:06:11Two men have been arrested but no charges have been laid.

0:06:11 > 0:06:13Now the Metropolitan Police are renewing their appeal

0:06:13 > 0:06:14for information.

0:06:14 > 0:06:17Newly released CCTV shows Danny making his way

0:06:17 > 0:06:22down King William Walk with friends just after midnight.

0:06:22 > 0:06:25This was the moment he was singled out by his killers on their moped.

0:06:25 > 0:06:28They make a U-turn to return and launch their attack.

0:06:28 > 0:06:30One produces a hunting knife and the other a gun.

0:06:30 > 0:06:36They make a demand for Danny's watch.

0:06:36 > 0:06:39A struggle ensues and ultimately Danny ends up here, unfortunately

0:06:39 > 0:06:42fatally stabbed, and here on these very steps sadly

0:06:42 > 0:06:44Danny lost his life.

0:06:44 > 0:06:49The group had been shot at, and Danny repeatedly stabbed.

0:06:49 > 0:06:52It's most likely the longest, most sustained stabbing I have ever come

0:06:52 > 0:06:56across in my 26 years of service.

0:06:56 > 0:06:58Danny's family hope that in revealing more details

0:06:58 > 0:07:00about the violent and sustained attack that

0:07:00 > 0:07:05killed their son and brother,

0:07:05 > 0:07:09in here, what is a popular London nightspot, it may jog the memory

0:07:09 > 0:07:10of anybody who knows anything further about

0:07:10 > 0:07:15the identity of his killers.

0:07:15 > 0:07:17I just can't get it out of my head.

0:07:17 > 0:07:19Such a senseless, senseless thing

0:07:19 > 0:07:22to do and he's not here with us.

0:07:22 > 0:07:28He's just not here.

0:07:28 > 0:07:30Crimestoppers is offering a £10,000 reward for any information that

0:07:30 > 0:07:37will secure a conviction.

0:07:37 > 0:07:40And the number to call Crimestoppers is 0800 555 111.

0:07:40 > 0:07:47That number again, 0800 555 111.

0:07:47 > 0:07:51You're watching BBC London News, coming up later in the programme...

0:07:51 > 0:07:54As the trial date is set next month for the Hampstead

0:07:54 > 0:07:58mother jailed in Iran, we speak to her husband

0:07:58 > 0:08:05about how they are coping.

0:08:05 > 0:08:08Christmas shoppers are being urged not to rush into buying gifts

0:08:08 > 0:08:10from unknown sellers.

0:08:10 > 0:08:13New figures show that in 2015 victims lost nearly

0:08:13 > 0:08:15£10 million to fraudsters.

0:08:15 > 0:08:19In 2016 that figure rose to 16 million.

0:08:19 > 0:08:21City of London Police have launched a campaign warning buyers

0:08:21 > 0:08:24that they could be playing into the hands of scammers

0:08:24 > 0:08:26in their attempts to snap up seasonal bargains.

0:08:26 > 0:08:36Helen Drew is on a busy Oxford Street and can tell us more.

0:08:36 > 0:08:39You may be watching this thinking I cannot think about Christmas

0:08:39 > 0:08:44shopping until December but a lot of people right now are well under way

0:08:44 > 0:08:50with their heirs and tomorrow will be busier. It is Black Friday and

0:08:50 > 0:08:55shortly after cyber Monday, the busiest day for online shopping.

0:08:55 > 0:09:00Police today warned of the dangers that can come with it. 32 days until

0:09:00 > 0:09:06Christmas. Some people are ramping up present buying. The Action Fraud

0:09:06 > 0:09:11team is warning of online shopping dangers. They say the most likely

0:09:11 > 0:09:15thing people tried to buy from fraudsters are mobile phones

0:09:15 > 0:09:19followed by clothing and accessories and then footwear. Specific items

0:09:19 > 0:09:29victims report are Kanye West's trainers. Fitness watches and this

0:09:29 > 0:09:36make up. If I go on the official website I can buy this popular

0:09:36 > 0:09:40lipstick it for $29 plus shipping from America but online by searching

0:09:40 > 0:09:48can find the same thing for £1.99. They say if something looks too good

0:09:48 > 0:09:53to be true, it probably is. Those items often turn out to be fake or

0:09:53 > 0:09:58never turn up. It is also stealing credit card details. This afternoon

0:09:58 > 0:10:05it did not take long to find victims of fraud.Somebody had put something

0:10:05 > 0:10:12on my card and I checked the bank statement and it was seven or eight

0:10:12 > 0:10:17flights, over £2000.Frightening. I do not do much online shopping

0:10:17 > 0:10:22possibly because I am nervous of that very thing happening. The only

0:10:22 > 0:10:28online fraud I have had is buying concert tickets that was enough.I

0:10:28 > 0:10:32am reasonably cautious, probably not enough.Probably passwords need to

0:10:32 > 0:10:38be about. The 14 say it is crucial to think twice.I did think there

0:10:38 > 0:10:44was something wrong but I clicked anyway. If you take time, time to

0:10:44 > 0:10:50think, count to five.It will probably save you money. The 14's

0:10:50 > 0:10:56campaign is urging people to do that. Slow down and think before

0:10:56 > 0:11:02clicking the buy now button. You heard the advice of the report about

0:11:02 > 0:11:07having to avoid online shopping fraud. The City of London Police

0:11:07 > 0:11:12issue other advice which includes using PayPal online because that

0:11:12 > 0:11:16offers buyers a certain amount of protection and making sure you have

0:11:16 > 0:11:21antivirus software on your devices and you update it regularly. Another

0:11:21 > 0:11:26piece of advice, ensuring you use strong passwords, and it does not

0:11:26 > 0:11:31mean the same password for everything. When I interviewed the

0:11:31 > 0:11:36detective inspector, he told me the most popular pass word still is the

0:11:36 > 0:11:44word pass word. If it is a website where you need numbers it is

0:11:44 > 0:11:49password 1234. If you think that sounds familiar you might want to

0:11:49 > 0:11:55think about changing that. Last year there were £60 million of Christmas

0:11:55 > 0:11:59shopping fraud and before that 10 million so it is increasing and

0:11:59 > 0:12:04police said they expect this year it will be more than ever.

0:12:04 > 0:12:07A man from Luton who was about to travel to Syria to join so-called

0:12:07 > 0:12:09Islamic State has been jailed for six years.

0:12:09 > 0:12:11The Old Bailey heard how 22-year-old Mubashir Jamil had become

0:12:11 > 0:12:13obsessed with martyrdom.

0:12:13 > 0:12:16He was arrested after a covert police operation last year

0:12:16 > 0:12:19after telling an undercover officer he'd blow himself up.

0:12:19 > 0:12:24He'll serve part of his sentence in a secure hospital.

0:12:24 > 0:12:28Footage has emerged of the moment a teenager came off his bike

0:12:28 > 0:12:31while police officers were trying to stop him in south London.

0:12:31 > 0:12:36The video shows 15-year-old Terrel Jones-Burton crash

0:12:36 > 0:12:37into a shop doorway in Bermondsey.

0:12:37 > 0:12:40He was arrested on suspicion of robbery and taken to hospital

0:12:40 > 0:12:41with facial injuries.

0:12:41 > 0:12:43His mother has told BBC London her son was the victim

0:12:43 > 0:12:45of mistaken identity and excessive force.

0:12:45 > 0:12:50The police watchdog is investigating.

0:12:50 > 0:12:52It's now been 600 days since a London mother

0:12:52 > 0:12:55was first imprisoned in Iran.

0:12:55 > 0:12:59That's according to the campaign to free Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe.

0:12:59 > 0:13:01She's being held in Tehran accused of spying -

0:13:01 > 0:13:03charges she denies.

0:13:03 > 0:13:05The time she's served means she becomes eligible for early

0:13:05 > 0:13:10release from her first sentence of five years,

0:13:10 > 0:13:13but is still facing further charges for which a trial date is believed

0:13:13 > 0:13:15to have been set for next month.

0:13:15 > 0:13:20Nazanin's husband Richard is here with me.

0:13:20 > 0:13:21Thank you for coming in.

0:13:21 > 0:13:24Does it feel like there is a light at the end of tunnel

0:13:24 > 0:13:29in terms of Nazanin eligible for early release?

0:13:29 > 0:13:34Certainly now we have got to a point, 600 days is a long time but

0:13:34 > 0:13:39now we have an application in hoping she will be granted it and we have a

0:13:39 > 0:13:44march on Saturday where we will take a letter to the supreme leader's

0:13:44 > 0:13:48office in London to ask if he will consider her case. There are

0:13:48 > 0:13:54certainly things we can hope for. How is Nazanin coping? You mentioned

0:13:54 > 0:13:59she found lumps in her breast. That is right, ten days ago she was taken

0:13:59 > 0:14:07to the doctor with lumps in her breast and the worry was breast

0:14:07 > 0:14:10cancer because she has it in the family. She was taken back last

0:14:10 > 0:14:12Saturday and responded to medication so it looks like they are not

0:14:12 > 0:14:19cancerous, which was a relief. In terms of her mental health, it is a

0:14:19 > 0:14:25long time to be in solitary confinement and imprisoned. In the

0:14:25 > 0:14:29past month there has been the turmoil of things in the media here.

0:14:29 > 0:14:34She is pretty fragile. How are you coping? It has been a long process

0:14:34 > 0:14:39and the past couple of weeks, people will have seen me on television all

0:14:39 > 0:14:44over the place. I am glad she's getting the attention, that is what

0:14:44 > 0:14:48keeps me going. You mentioned the past few weeks have been busy and

0:14:48 > 0:14:54you have been on media, because of comments by the Foreign Secretary.

0:14:54 > 0:14:58You met Boris Johnson last week. Are you feeling any more confident you

0:14:58 > 0:15:03will get to go to Iran because that is what you wanted?I met the

0:15:03 > 0:15:06Foreign Secretary and asked him that I would like to come with him when

0:15:06 > 0:15:12he goes to Tehran and he said he was keen and he had to consult with his

0:15:12 > 0:15:16staff and the Iranian authorities. He sent me a text message this

0:15:16 > 0:15:21morning saying his thoughts were with us. I followed up with the new

0:15:21 > 0:15:26trial date for 10th of December to ask if he could get there in time

0:15:26 > 0:15:30for that. I will put in a new request to the Iranian embassy to

0:15:30 > 0:15:35ask if I can be there to witness the trial. When you met, did you talk

0:15:35 > 0:15:40about the fact the comments he made in the Foreign Affairs Committee

0:15:40 > 0:15:45saying Nazanin was training journalists and the effect it may

0:15:45 > 0:15:49have had? The statement said the Iranian Foreign Minister assured the

0:15:49 > 0:15:53Foreign Secretary his remarks have no bearing on Nazanin Zaghari-

0:15:53 > 0:15:57Ratcliffe -'s case and he is committed to working with the UK.

0:15:57 > 0:16:01The Foreign Secretary stressed there are worries about the new case and

0:16:01 > 0:16:07we talked about the details of it and what was likely next and about

0:16:07 > 0:16:15health and about the visit. The key focus was on when is he going green

0:16:15 > 0:16:19can I go with him.Do you think the government is doing enough to get

0:16:19 > 0:16:23Nazanin home in time for Christmas? I hope they are doing all they can.

0:16:23 > 0:16:29One thing we are pushing for is to have a meeting to discuss the idea

0:16:29 > 0:16:33of diplomatic protection, where she is protected more seriously than

0:16:33 > 0:16:37already, so there are things to push behind closed doors and as soon as

0:16:37 > 0:16:41the visit is arranged, the better. Please keep us posted and we wish

0:16:41 > 0:16:43you the best.

0:16:43 > 0:16:45More than 80 firefighters were called to a fire

0:16:45 > 0:16:47at an industrial estate in north London this morning.

0:16:47 > 0:16:49It started just after nine o'clock and destroyed

0:16:49 > 0:16:50part of football-club Tottenham Hotspurs'

0:16:50 > 0:16:51merchandise warehouse.

0:16:51 > 0:16:54The cause of the fire is unknown and there are no

0:16:54 > 0:16:58reported casualties.

0:16:58 > 0:17:01The introduction of new Thameslink rail services to ease north to south

0:17:01 > 0:17:04travel through central London has been delayed by up to a year.

0:17:04 > 0:17:07The new timetable of 24 trains an hour at peak times on the Bedford

0:17:07 > 0:17:10to Brighton line was meant to be in place by December 2018

0:17:10 > 0:17:11but it has been put back.

0:17:11 > 0:17:14The National Audit Office said adequate arrangements hadn't yet

0:17:14 > 0:17:20been made to manage the launch.

0:17:20 > 0:17:27Still to come this Thursday evening...

0:17:27 > 0:17:31Chips can prevent global warming so that has got to be a good thing.

0:17:31 > 0:17:35We'll tell you why it may not be as far fetched as it sounds.

0:17:35 > 0:17:41And...

0:17:41 > 0:17:46# Please release me, can't you see #.

0:17:46 > 0:17:48Engelbert Humperdinck talks candidly about how his music

0:17:48 > 0:17:51is helping his wife who has Alzheimers.

0:17:51 > 0:17:54Next, a story which has divided opinion.

0:17:54 > 0:17:58A family in Hertfordshire has defended keeping a fox as a pet.

0:17:58 > 0:18:00They adopted the animal after it was handed into a vet

0:18:00 > 0:18:03when it was just a few days old.

0:18:03 > 0:18:05They've been hand-rearing it for seven months.

0:18:05 > 0:18:10As Sonja Jessup reports.

0:18:14 > 0:18:20No, it is not a scene from last year's John Lewis Christmas advert.

0:18:20 > 0:18:25Jasper the fox is a family pet. He has lived with Natalie and her

0:18:25 > 0:18:31children since he was two days old. She took a call from a vet who said

0:18:31 > 0:18:37he'd been abandoned and would need hand rearing. At first it was

0:18:37 > 0:18:40through the night every couple of hours I would have to get up and

0:18:40 > 0:18:43feed him.The family already had three dogs, a cat and a horse.

0:18:43 > 0:18:49Natalie said the fox fits in well but she treats him differently to

0:18:49 > 0:18:53her other pets. You can only domesticate them to a certain level

0:18:53 > 0:18:57so it is respecting his natural behaviours and learning what his

0:18:57 > 0:19:02noises mean and learning when you have to be careful. His warning

0:19:02 > 0:19:07signals, stuff like that.In fact after a few months, Jasper proved

0:19:07 > 0:19:11too much of a handful inside the house so he now has his own

0:19:11 > 0:19:15enclosure in the garage. An animal charity says foxes belong in the

0:19:15 > 0:19:24wild, but Natalie says she is worried he wouldn't survive.He's

0:19:24 > 0:19:28not in a cage, his only there in night-time and for his safety so

0:19:28 > 0:19:32it's not like I'm keeping him captive in a cage. He has a sense of

0:19:32 > 0:19:37freedom and we do go on walks so people are always going to judge

0:19:37 > 0:19:43whatever we do.She's hoping Jasper decides to settle here and make

0:19:43 > 0:19:45himself at home.

0:19:45 > 0:19:48Turning now to a bold claim - could chips and fried food really

0:19:48 > 0:19:49help save the planet?

0:19:49 > 0:19:52It may not be as far fetched as it sounds.

0:19:52 > 0:19:54Scientists at Reading University have found cooking in fat

0:19:54 > 0:19:55might just be help.

0:19:55 > 0:19:59As Asad Ahmad explains.

0:19:59 > 0:20:02We don't really need an excuse to eat more fish and chips.

0:20:02 > 0:20:05But it is always good to have one and you

0:20:05 > 0:20:08won't find a better excuse than this.

0:20:08 > 0:20:11Chips can prevent global warming, so that has got to be a

0:20:11 > 0:20:12good thing.

0:20:12 > 0:20:14OK, maybe he is exaggerating slightly, but the

0:20:14 > 0:20:17principle of what the chip man is saying could be true.

0:20:17 > 0:20:18How?

0:20:18 > 0:20:21Scientists at the University of Reading were studying the climate

0:20:21 > 0:20:24when they started to look at the impact of cooking fats in the air

0:20:24 > 0:20:29and this is the science bit.

0:20:29 > 0:20:31These molecules that are emitted in large

0:20:31 > 0:20:36quantities in urban areas, they make it easier for clouds to form.

0:20:36 > 0:20:37Clouds have a massive impact on climate

0:20:37 > 0:20:41change because clouds generally are believed to cool.

0:20:41 > 0:20:43If you had more clouds, it could potentially lead to

0:20:43 > 0:20:49increased cooling.

0:20:49 > 0:20:50So a lower temperature.

0:20:50 > 0:20:52OK, just to break that scientific explanation down further,

0:20:52 > 0:20:55what the doctor is effectively saying is this.

0:20:55 > 0:20:58When you deep fat fry, tiny molecules of fat go up

0:20:58 > 0:21:00in the atmosphere.

0:21:00 > 0:21:07As they rise, they stay there for some time and

0:21:07 > 0:21:10while there, they thicken cloud and that has the effect of keeping more

0:21:10 > 0:21:13of the sun rays away from us and therefore

0:21:13 > 0:21:19cooling the temperature, helping global cooling.

0:21:19 > 0:21:22And nobody is happier than those in the local chip shop.

0:21:22 > 0:21:24But they say they have been doing their bit for some time.

0:21:25 > 0:21:34We recycle oil.

0:21:35 > 0:21:37The crispy bits, the batter, we get, we recycle

0:21:37 > 0:21:39them into oil to be used again, so none

0:21:39 > 0:21:41of it is going to waste and we

0:21:41 > 0:21:44made a conscious effort to cut down on plastic items.

0:21:44 > 0:21:46We have changed a lot of our things to cardboard.

0:21:46 > 0:21:48So we have always been quite conscious

0:21:48 > 0:21:49about the effect on the environment.

0:21:49 > 0:21:52So chip shops could argue they now have a new eco-status, doing their

0:21:52 > 0:21:55bit for the planet, trying to stop icecaps from melting.

0:21:55 > 0:21:57But even the scientists at Reading University are

0:21:57 > 0:21:59the first to say a lot more research needs to be done.

0:21:59 > 0:22:04Now to the man who has sold 150 million records across the world.

0:22:04 > 0:22:05He's Arnold Dorsey to his friends and family,

0:22:05 > 0:22:07but to us he's Engelbert Humperdinck.

0:22:07 > 0:22:10At the age of 81, he's still touring and has a new album.

0:22:10 > 0:22:13Wendy Hurrell has been talking to him about his how his music

0:22:13 > 0:22:18is helping his wife, who has Alzheimers.

0:22:18 > 0:22:28# Please release me...#.

0:22:28 > 0:22:32The song that kept the Beatles off the top spot in 1967 and launched

0:22:32 > 0:22:36a half-century career.

0:22:36 > 0:22:40I'm so thrilled that one song has given me that passport to the world.

0:22:40 > 0:22:49Now Engelbert Humperdinck has produced a new album of covers.

0:22:49 > 0:22:54One by Bruno Mars.

0:22:54 > 0:23:00This is the first time they met.I told him he would become a big star

0:23:00 > 0:23:02and he became a megastar.

0:23:02 > 0:23:04The album is dedicated to his wife of 53 years.

0:23:04 > 0:23:06Patricia was diagnosed with Alzheimer's a decade ago.

0:23:06 > 0:23:15Just Like The First Time was written especially for her.

0:23:15 > 0:23:19The duet I'm Glad I Danced With You, a lot of the songs depict exactly

0:23:19 > 0:23:25what a man thinks about his better half, you know?

0:23:25 > 0:23:28I met her in a dance hall when she was 17 years old,

0:23:28 > 0:23:31and we have been dancing together ever since.

0:23:31 > 0:23:39# I'm glad I danced with you #.

0:23:39 > 0:23:41She listens to the album every day!

0:23:41 > 0:23:44Does she?

0:23:44 > 0:23:46Yes, she listens to it every morning and there's a smile

0:23:46 > 0:23:48on her face when she hears it.

0:23:48 > 0:23:53She's not totally compos mentis but she's beginning to understand

0:23:53 > 0:23:58more now and I think musically it is great therapy for her

0:23:58 > 0:24:02because it brings back the past.

0:24:02 > 0:24:04And it's wonderful, and she's learning to talk

0:24:04 > 0:24:08a bit more now again.

0:24:08 > 0:24:10It's just wonderful, wonderful.

0:24:10 > 0:24:12The progress, it's not supposed to happen but it's happening

0:24:12 > 0:24:16and I think it's a miracle.

0:24:19 > 0:24:21Time to get a check on the weather with weather with Darren Bett.

0:24:28 > 0:24:31The sunshine made us smile today but temperatures are taking a downward

0:24:31 > 0:24:37trend over the next few days. 15 degrees was our top temperature

0:24:37 > 0:24:41today, and tomorrow the temperatures will be lower so it is turning

0:24:41 > 0:24:44colder. But the winds will be lighter as well, probably getting

0:24:44 > 0:24:48off to quite a cloudy start because there is some rain on the way

0:24:48 > 0:24:53overnight to head our way as well. Today we have been sort of in

0:24:53 > 0:24:57between rain. We had the early bursts of rain, gusty winds clearing

0:24:57 > 0:25:01away, then we have been waiting for these showers to come our way but

0:25:01 > 0:25:15they have taken a long time. It won't take long before we see some

0:25:17 > 0:25:19wetter weather moving across from the west and heading across most of

0:25:19 > 0:25:22the London area and the south-east, but tending to clear away later on

0:25:22 > 0:25:24in the night. It keeps temperatures up. The following few nights will be

0:25:24 > 0:25:27colder than that five or 6 degrees. We should see sky brightening, some

0:25:27 > 0:25:30sunshine at times up for the most part I think it will be a dry day

0:25:30 > 0:25:33with the risk of some showers in the afternoon. Temperatures struggling

0:25:33 > 0:25:39to make double figures, eight or 9 degrees will be typical. The chilly

0:25:39 > 0:25:42day, but that means that where we have the clear skies overnight

0:25:42 > 0:25:46tomorrow night and into the start of the weekend it will be called. We

0:25:46 > 0:25:51are looking at a touch of frost away from the centre of London. Those

0:25:51 > 0:25:56temperatures won't be far away from freezing. A cold start of the

0:25:56 > 0:26:00weekend but a bright start. The winds will pick up on Saturday so it

0:26:00 > 0:26:06will feel colder with the winds strengthening. And so those

0:26:06 > 0:26:11temperatures again falling away, not as warm. It will be colder, six or 7

0:26:11 > 0:26:17degrees. Into cold air right the way through the weekend. Briefly we get

0:26:17 > 0:26:21orange, this is milder air, not the drink all fruit and it could be

0:26:21 > 0:26:27accompanied by rain. That will be on the first half of Monday, then the

0:26:27 > 0:26:30cold air is set to return.

0:26:33 > 0:26:38Darren, thank you. Recapping headlines before we go...

0:26:38 > 0:26:40The Institute for Fiscal Studies warns the UK is in danger

0:26:40 > 0:26:43of losing almost 20 years of growth in earnings.

0:26:43 > 0:26:45It says the squeeze on living standards in the past ten

0:26:45 > 0:26:46years is unprecedented.

0:26:46 > 0:26:50Dozens of people had to be rescued from their homes in parts of Cumbria

0:26:50 > 0:26:51and Lancashire last night after heavy rainfall

0:26:51 > 0:26:52caused flooding.

0:26:52 > 0:26:54More than 70 people were helped to safety.

0:26:54 > 0:26:56The physical and mental health of around 15,000 former

0:26:56 > 0:26:58professional footballers is going to be studied

0:26:58 > 0:27:00by researchers who are trying to determine the long-term impact

0:27:01 > 0:27:06of heading a football.

0:27:06 > 0:27:08The Met Police is offering a £10,000 reward

0:27:08 > 0:27:11for information about the killers of Danny Pearce, who was killed

0:27:11 > 0:27:16in Greenwich in July while being robbed of his Rolex watch.

0:27:16 > 0:27:18And the Mayor's accused the Government of abandoning

0:27:18 > 0:27:21Londoners affected by air pollution.

0:27:21 > 0:27:24Sadiq Khan described it as "a scandal" that the capital

0:27:24 > 0:27:30won't be eligible for the new Clean Air Fund.

0:27:30 > 0:27:33More on the day's stories on our website and feel free to get

0:27:33 > 0:27:34in touch on our Facebook page.

0:27:34 > 0:27:38Asad will be back with our late news.

0:27:38 > 0:27:41From me and the team here, have a lovely evening.
