:00:29. > :00:31.They'd been on a robbing spree, snatching phones from pedestrians

:00:32. > :00:35.Detectives say it was pure luck that nobody was killed.

:00:36. > :00:43.A prolific phone thief attempts a desperate getaway.

:02:04. > :02:05.They had stolen 18 phones in Westminster, Camden, Islington,

:02:24. > :02:31.Recent figures show the number of thefts by people on mopeds

:02:32. > :02:34.in London has gone up by more than 600% in the last two years.

:02:35. > :02:37.This was a very long pursuit, 30-40 minutes, very often pursuits

:02:38. > :02:39.may be initiated and we cannot catch the offenders.

:02:40. > :02:45.Because they have been able to make off from us with the tactical

:02:46. > :02:49.advantage of a two-wheeled vehicle against a lot of our four-wheeled

:02:50. > :02:59.They didn't get away this time, despite a few close calls.

:03:00. > :03:03.A mother who hid the body of her baby son for more

:03:04. > :03:06.than a decade has been sentenced to 21 months in prison.

:03:46. > :03:49.The pollution killed hundreds of fish and left farm animals sick.

:03:50. > :03:52.A judge, who has delayed sentencing until next week, described

:04:10. > :04:18.It smelt exactly as you would expect it to smell, and there was no

:04:19. > :04:28.Birds and fish died, people reported children

:04:29. > :04:32.A fisherman was forced out of business.

:04:33. > :04:35.Thames Water, whose officials are seen here arriving

:04:36. > :04:39.at Aylesbury Crown Court today, has admitted polluting the Thames

:04:40. > :04:42.with sewage spilling out of four treatment plants

:04:43. > :04:47.They were poorly equipped and badly managed.

:04:48. > :04:52.This is the outflow from the sewage treatment works at Little Marlow.

:04:53. > :04:55.Today the water round here looks clear, but back in 2012 and 2013,

:04:56. > :04:57.millions of litres of untreated sewage were spewing out from this

:04:58. > :05:01.outflow and for half a mile downriver, people could see see

:05:02. > :05:07.human waste, sanitary towels and condoms.

:05:08. > :05:10.It is not the first time Thames Water has been guilty

:05:11. > :05:15.In 2015, the company was fined for pollution

:05:16. > :05:19.In January 2016, it had to pay ?1 million for incidents

:05:20. > :05:24.in Hertfordshire, and two months later it was fined for pollution

:05:25. > :05:30.Judge Sheridan here at Aylesbury Crown Court has warned

:05:31. > :05:33.Thames Water it faces a record fine for the pollution, likely to be

:05:34. > :05:39.He told the court today that the company's negligence had

:05:40. > :05:44.He said he is determined to get a message to shareholders

:05:45. > :05:49.that the environment must be protected and treasured.

:05:50. > :05:53.Thames Water's new boss says ?30 million has been spent improving

:05:54. > :06:02.We have recruited more people, there are more resources,

:06:03. > :06:04.and we have fundamentally changed the processes by which we

:06:05. > :06:12.Including using some really smart technology to make

:06:13. > :06:16.sure that we are aware of what is going on and we are in

:06:17. > :06:18.a position take action, or wherever possible pre-emptive

:06:19. > :06:21.action, because the last thing we want is a repetition
