:00:13. > :00:18.Good evening and welcome to BBC London News.

:00:19. > :00:21.So after the events of yesterday, it's been a day or reflection.

:00:22. > :00:25.As Londoners travelled in to work reading the headlines about another

:00:26. > :00:27.terrorist attack in the capital, there was also a sense

:00:28. > :00:32.This morning, Tolu Adeoye joined some of the millions

:00:33. > :00:38.Londoners, and others from around the world who have come here to

:00:39. > :00:41.visit this great city, will get up and go about their day as normal.

:00:42. > :00:47.They will leave their hotels, they will

:00:48. > :00:50.walk these streets. They will live their lives.

:00:51. > :00:55.This morning, as the Prime Minister had said, life carried on.

:00:56. > :00:58.There were of course signs of yesterday's attack, but those we

:00:59. > :01:01.spoke to on the morning commute were resilient.

:01:02. > :01:03.You mustn't let fear govern your life.

:01:04. > :01:11.I'm sure everyone today will feel more up to it than ever.

:01:12. > :01:13.Journalism students from the University of Sheffield were

:01:14. > :01:15.visiting Parliament yesterday as the attack unfolded.

:01:16. > :01:18.Today, they carried on with their London visit

:01:19. > :01:26.I think it's kind of changed how I feel about terrorism.

:01:27. > :01:31.It has not changed that you could be anywhere in the world, it could

:01:32. > :01:34.It's not changed me wanting to come to London.

:01:35. > :01:37.It's just sad, isn't it? I'm not scared.

:01:38. > :01:40.This is a city that's been attacked before.

:01:41. > :01:44.Adam remembers the aftermath of 7/7 well.

:01:45. > :01:47.The city came together then, and he says the latest attack

:01:48. > :01:53.You don't want to become accustomed to that happening

:01:54. > :01:55.regularly. But I'm a Londoner.

:01:56. > :01:59.I've always been brought up here. So no, it doesn't worry me.

:02:00. > :02:01.I can imagine it would worry some people.

:02:02. > :02:04.You just get on? Yeah, I do.

:02:05. > :02:08.Certain areas were quieter than usual.

:02:09. > :02:11.The London Eye, one of a handful of attractions which shut

:02:12. > :02:14.But thousands of tourists still enjoyed the landmarks

:02:15. > :02:16.that had attracted them to the capital.

:02:17. > :02:21.They arrived on holiday from Israel yesterday.

:02:22. > :02:32.The only way to fight terrorism of any kind is not to be afraid,

:02:33. > :02:35.is not to stay home, is not to be frightened of anything.

:02:36. > :02:38.It's to go out and live your life, and give a

:02:39. > :02:39.message that nothing will stop London.

:02:40. > :02:45.Nothing will stop Britain. Nothing will stop England.

:02:46. > :02:47.The terror attack at Westminster was the biggest since

:02:48. > :02:53.The Met believe it was the work of one man,

:02:54. > :02:55.but are investigating whether he was part

:02:56. > :03:00.So how do the police respond to this - and how

:03:01. > :03:04.Here's our Home Affairs Correspondent, Nick Beake.

:03:05. > :03:06.We were told to expect more police on the streets.

:03:07. > :03:13.Others were armed only with the knowledge of London geography.

:03:14. > :03:17.So how should this attack change security in our city?

:03:18. > :03:18.Bob Broadhurst had the awesome responsibility of keeping

:03:19. > :03:26.Do we need to make huge changes? I don't think so.

:03:27. > :03:29.I think what yesterday showed is just how easy it is now

:03:30. > :03:31.for a terrorist just to jump into an ordinary car

:03:32. > :03:34.We don't want to become a police state.

:03:35. > :03:37.We don't want, you know, to be locked away from our city.

:03:38. > :03:43.We want to be able to move around it.

:03:44. > :03:45.Bob, so many of the flags today flying at half-mast,

:03:46. > :03:47.but in the days ahead, there will be questions

:03:48. > :03:50.about the fact that the police and the security service

:03:51. > :03:53.Do you think that criticism will be justified?

:03:54. > :03:59.I mean, flags fly at half-mast shows the nation's respect,

:04:00. > :04:02.and I think the nation now needs to respect what the police do.

:04:03. > :04:04.There will be dozens, probably hundreds of people,

:04:05. > :04:07.that the police are looking at, potential suspects, many of them

:04:08. > :04:12.The attack here has raised questions over just how well Parliament

:04:13. > :04:15.and the rest of London is protected from a terror attack,

:04:16. > :04:18.and it's likely to reignite that debate over whether there should be

:04:19. > :04:28.was cleared of murder after shooting dead a suspect 12 years ago.

:04:29. > :04:31.We live in a society where all police officers

:04:32. > :04:35.It might be five years down the road or ten years down the road.

:04:36. > :04:38.But if you want people with guns to be able to stop

:04:39. > :04:40.an attack of this nature, or simply to stop

:04:41. > :04:44.any form of armed criminality, I don't think it's fair to ask

:04:45. > :04:49.unarmed police officers to continue to do that for much longer.

:04:50. > :04:51.Yesterday's attacker was eventually shot dead by a plainclothes

:04:52. > :04:57.close protection officer who carried a gun.

:04:58. > :04:59.Keeping London safe is a complicated business,

:05:00. > :05:02.and the Metropolitan Police are playing many roles tonight.

:05:03. > :05:07.Protectors, investigators, but also mourners.

:05:08. > :05:18.Nick Beake, BBC London News, Westminster.

:05:19. > :05:27.Social media was used to share photos of the Seanad details of what

:05:28. > :05:34.happened. Today it has been used to show London's solidarity.

:05:35. > :05:44.Messages on social media have been clear. As have messages of support

:05:45. > :05:47.from famous Londoners. If this ACPO -- of terrorism was supposed to

:05:48. > :05:49.divide the people of London, I know for a fact that all something like

:05:50. > :05:54.this does is bring them closer together as one. Tonight we send our

:05:55. > :06:03.heartfelt thoughts to everybody in Britain. And from Adel during her

:06:04. > :06:07.concert in New Zealand... It's very strange not being at home. I want to

:06:08. > :06:10.do is be at home with my friends and family. Let's dedicate this to my

:06:11. > :06:20.hometown. From all around the world,

:06:21. > :06:22.shows of solidarity. From the union flag projected

:06:23. > :06:24.on to Berlin's Brandenburg Gate tonight, to lights out

:06:25. > :06:26.at the Eiffel Tower, Back in the capital,

:06:27. > :06:30.messages from Underground staff Announcement boards at Tube stations

:06:31. > :06:34.are being used to give uplifting messages to commuters today,

:06:35. > :06:36.like this one here at Tower Hill. It's one of the most

:06:37. > :06:38.popular on social media, having been liked and shared

:06:39. > :06:40.thousands of times. Others include these

:06:41. > :06:42.in Tooting Beck and Richmond. The images and slogans used today

:06:43. > :06:45.to share thoughts online capture A sentiment shared this morning

:06:46. > :06:49.by the Prime Minister. to remember those who lost

:06:50. > :07:06.their lives or have been injured. Alice Bhandhukravi is in

:07:07. > :07:16.Trafalgar Square for us now. that is right.

:07:17. > :07:20.Here in Trafalgar square and there are several little memorial sites

:07:21. > :07:23.like this one where people have gathered. Even at this late hour

:07:24. > :07:28.there have been small groups of people coming, lighting candles,

:07:29. > :07:33.laying flowers, in memory of those who lost their lives. In another

:07:34. > :07:40.part of London there was a tribute to PC Keith Palmer in particular,

:07:41. > :07:42.the football club that he so loved Tom Charlton Athletic. He was a

:07:43. > :07:55.long-standing season-ticket holder. When PC Palmer was not on duty, he

:07:56. > :07:59.was a regular here. He had a season ticket for at least the last 12

:08:00. > :08:03.years. There was an outpouring of emotion among Charlton Athletic

:08:04. > :08:09.fans. The club decided they would like to pay tribute. They have done

:08:10. > :08:15.so by leaving a scarf over his seat in the East stand. That scarf will

:08:16. > :08:21.stay there until the next Tom match against MK Dons on April before.

:08:22. > :08:30.Earlier, I spoke to the club journalist, who summed up the mood.

:08:31. > :08:36.People say they recognised him. Obviously the news was horrendous,

:08:37. > :08:40.no matter what. It strikes England as a nation. But when you know it is

:08:41. > :08:46.one of your own, it makes it closer to home. It's devastating really.

:08:47. > :08:50.The club are looking at how to pay tribute to PC Palmer on the night of

:08:51. > :08:55.the MK dons match. A statement from his family earlier read that Keith

:08:56. > :09:00.would be remembered as a wonderful dad and husband, a loving son,

:09:01. > :09:03.brother and uncle. A long-time supporter of Charlton Athletic, a

:09:04. > :09:09.friend to everyone who knew him. That certainly comes across here.

:09:10. > :09:13.One message I read said, rest in peace, Keith. Thanks for protecting

:09:14. > :09:19.horse. Chris slake, Charlton.

:09:20. > :09:25.In a moment, the weather. First, we leave you with some images of today

:09:26. > :09:31.and London's defiant mood. Good night.

:09:32. > :09:39.He was a strong, professional public servant.

:09:40. > :09:47.We come together as Londoners tonight. Londoners will never be

:09:48. > :09:59.cowed by terrorism. Good evening. A slow start to the

:10:00. > :10:03.day-to-day. It did begin to brighten a up as confirmed by one of our

:10:04. > :10:07.pictures in King's Cross this afternoon. Tomorrow will be quite

:10:08. > :10:11.similar. We start on a cloudy note. It will be a dry start. It will

:10:12. > :10:16.brighten not in the afternoon. We should see sunshine. The clouds will

:10:17. > :10:20.be developing overnight. It will stay dry pretty much across the

:10:21. > :10:25.board. A bit of a breeze. Temperatures dipping down to five or

:10:26. > :10:30.6 degrees. It will be chilly in the morning, particularly in the breeze.

:10:31. > :10:35.A lot of cloud first thing. We will begin to see much brighter skies

:10:36. > :10:41.coming in from the west. Temperatures getting up to even 13

:10:42. > :10:44.degrees. With the breeze, it will temper things a little bit. The

:10:45. > :10:48.breeze continues to blow for the first part of the weekend. Saturday

:10:49. > :10:55.will be a lovely day with plenty of sunshine. 11 or 12 degrees in the

:10:56. > :10:59.east of London, 15 degrees in the West. The outlook sees the fine

:11:00. > :11:04.weather continue into the second part of the weekend. 1415 degrees.

:11:05. > :11:10.Still quite breezy. Here's Thomas with the national picture.

:11:11. > :11:16.Good evening. Some good news on the weather front of this evening. The

:11:17. > :11:19.weekend is looking sunny for most of the UK. We have got clear skies

:11:20. > :11:28.across the country and it promises to be a sunny day tomorrow. We had

:11:29. > :11:33.some rain today. It rained quite heavy across parts of the South

:11:34. > :11:34.West. These are remnants of weather fronts
