:01:44. > :01:46.I do think it's good that they're doing something like this

:01:47. > :01:49.for someone who showed a bit of courage when it was needed.

:01:50. > :01:51.Thousands of police officers from around the country lined

:01:56. > :02:01.Unfortunately PC Palmer took the great sacrifice but he was doing

:02:40. > :02:42.This was a difficult day, a difficult balance between a very

:02:43. > :02:44.public show of respect and the private

:02:45. > :02:53.There were words of hope, of resurrection, of life

:02:54. > :02:56.in Jesus Christ, of not abandoning hope, and of thanksgiving

:02:57. > :02:59.And those deeds will never be forgotten.

:03:00. > :03:08.Neighbours of a care home in Hertfordshire have praised

:03:09. > :03:11.the bravery of firefighters who rescued more than 30 elderly

:03:12. > :03:13.residents after a fire ripped through the building,

:03:14. > :03:19.Locals have rallied round to help survivors who've lost everything.

:03:20. > :03:28.It was a fierce fire which spread rapidly.

:03:29. > :03:32.A neighbour managed to capture the blaze at its peak.

:03:33. > :03:35.Over 60 firefighters fought for a day to put it out.

:03:36. > :03:39.When they arrived they were also faced with the challenge of rescuing

:03:40. > :03:42.more than 30 elderly people who, because of disability

:03:43. > :03:50.or age, were trapped inside the burning building.

:03:51. > :03:52.Today firefighters were praised for their work that night.

:03:53. > :03:59.The firefighters themselves say they just doing their job.

:04:00. > :04:04.Our firefighters undertook a systematic search of the building,

:04:05. > :04:10.sometimes having to physically lift and carry the residents

:04:11. > :04:13.from the building, or get them to walk assisted down a ladder

:04:14. > :04:15.pitched to the outside face of the building.

:04:16. > :04:19.That is quite a challenge given the roof was ablaze.

:04:20. > :04:21.The crews worked extremely hard in difficult circumstances

:04:22. > :04:27.This fire broke out in the early hours of Saturday morning

:04:28. > :04:32.and as neighbours awoke, they brought out clothes

:04:33. > :04:37.and blankets to help those who were rescued from this building.

:04:38. > :04:43.This fire has caused real sadness and shock in this community.

:04:44. > :04:46.Half a mile down the road, John Weale and his boss have been

:04:47. > :04:50.They have raised more than ?2000 through crowdfunding

:04:51. > :04:57.and collected bags of clothes, wheelchairs and other supplies.

:04:58. > :05:00.We've had an awful lot been donated to ourselves -

:05:01. > :05:03.on Saturday I think we took over 100 bags in and as you can see,

:05:04. > :05:06.today we are still loading the van up and still taking bits

:05:07. > :05:11.round Fordham, which is just fantastic.

:05:12. > :05:14.They had nothing at the end of it and at least the local people

:05:15. > :05:17.and the people in surrounding areas have really pulled together

:05:18. > :05:23.Now there's the challenge of finding permanent homes for the residents.

:05:24. > :05:26.The care home had been given a good rating in a recent

:05:27. > :05:31.An investigation into the cause of the fire is still under way,

:05:32. > :05:34.to try to explain why two vulnerable people lost their lives.

:05:35. > :05:49.When it comes to work-life balance, working fewer hours is probably

:05:50. > :05:51.an unaffordable dream for many Londoners.

:05:52. > :05:53.But in other European capitals, it has increased productivity

:05:54. > :05:59.Well, one group campaigning to make a shorter working

:06:00. > :06:09.London is still, by and large, a 9-5 city with most commuters

:06:10. > :06:12.travelling to their 40 hour a week jobs at roughly the same

:06:13. > :06:18.Duncan changed all that many years ago.

:06:19. > :06:21.He volunteered at the Grasshopper's Nursery in Hackney,

:06:22. > :06:25.which qualifies his boys for reduced childcare costs.

:06:26. > :06:28.This was the only way to make it work financially but he says

:06:29. > :06:34.I think there's a big psychological barrier to going flexible

:06:35. > :06:37.or part-time here in London and I know a lot of my friends

:06:38. > :06:39.who work full-time and couldn't conceive of going part-time.

:06:40. > :06:43.And I made that transition about five years ago,

:06:44. > :06:54.But, ultimately, I think having a bit less but having more time

:06:55. > :06:56.for the kids and the children is actually much,

:06:57. > :07:02.In Iceland's capital, a new timetable is being established

:07:03. > :07:04.to make flexible working financially viable for people with

:07:05. > :07:11.It's a system which some economists are championing here.

:07:12. > :07:14.They've started giving their public sector employees a 35 hour week

:07:15. > :07:19.And they are seeing increases in productivity and reduced stress

:07:20. > :07:21.levels and people staying on in the workforce for longer.

:07:22. > :07:23.Then you've got countries like the Netherlands,

:07:24. > :07:25.Belgium, where, actually, shorter working hours are just

:07:26. > :07:28.the norm, where working 20-30 hours a week is much more standard

:07:29. > :07:35.Liana is one of a group of Londoners campaigning for a law change to make

:07:36. > :07:40.As things stand now, employers can say no

:07:41. > :07:48.She says productivity would increase as workers like her feel happier.

:07:49. > :07:51.I think London is a city that is full of really talented

:07:52. > :07:53.people, people who are passionate about an interest, be

:07:54. > :07:55.that the novel they're writing, or the sports they love

:07:56. > :07:58.or the volunteering they do, and a five-day week really limits

:07:59. > :08:04.the amount you can give and develop those passions and talents.

:08:05. > :08:08.Building a new routine around shorter hours is a risk,

:08:09. > :08:13.especially in places like London with such high living costs.

:08:14. > :08:16.But the message from cities where thousands of workers have

:08:17. > :08:18.cut their hours is that quality of life and productivity

:08:19. > :08:33.That's it from me, and Wendy will have the weather

:08:34. > :08:36.for you in just a moment, but we'll leave you tonight

:08:37. > :08:38.with images of how the capital today honoured PC Keith Palmer,

:08:39. > :08:41.who was killed in the line of duty protecting Parliament

:08:42. > :09:05.We've had the public expressions of thanks and honouring,

:09:06. > :09:09.and now the family can do what only the family can do and say

:09:10. > :09:12.their final farewell to Keith, and so we leave them to do

:09:13. > :09:33.Good evening, the weather for the week ahead in London might not be

:09:34. > :09:37.too much like yesterday but if you got outdoor plant it's not too bad.

:09:38. > :09:43.Mostly dry conditions with some sunny spells and temperatures will

:09:44. > :09:47.be average. This was yesterday, perfect blue skies and it looked

:09:48. > :09:51.very similar this morning. I hope you were not fooled into thinking we

:09:52. > :09:57.would have a rerun because there was a drop in temperature, 25 degrees

:09:58. > :10:01.yesterday, 14 today but that is exceptional and this is average. We

:10:02. > :10:07.also had a north-westerly wind blowing in behind and it is still

:10:08. > :10:12.going tonight, not too strong but bringing in that cold air. We also

:10:13. > :10:16.have clear skies so gardeners, be aware, if you are in a spot prone to

:10:17. > :10:20.frost, temperatures might be low enough, three degrees here or there

:10:21. > :10:23.in the countryside around London. A chilly start tomorrow but bright and

:10:24. > :10:28.we will have sunny spells coming and going through the day and still that

:10:29. > :10:34.north-westerly wind but temperatures up a bit from today so we will get

:10:35. > :10:40.to 16 or 17 degrees in central London and it will be dry. That goes

:10:41. > :10:44.for the week ahead, we will have largely cloudy conditions, some

:10:45. > :10:48.sunny spells but dry conditions and a bit breezy, especially on

:10:49. > :10:53.Wednesday. The outlook for Easter weekend, more of the same, some rain

:10:54. > :10:56.on Saturday morning but otherwise mostly dry with some sunny spells

:10:57. > :11:01.and feeling cool at times. If you have plans going out of London, you

:11:02. > :11:10.will have to keep an eye on the National forecast with Matt Taylor.

:11:11. > :11:16.Good evening. Let's cut to the chase the first big holiday weekend of the

:11:17. > :11:20.year is on the horizon and if you consider last weekend as a taster

:11:21. > :11:24.for the summer, this weekend is not looking too bad. It will be a bit

:11:25. > :11:27.cooler, temperatures this week and closer to where they should be at

:11:28. > :11:33.this time of the year thanks to the north-west breed and the reason for

:11:34. > :11:34.that, if we look at the jet stream, coming across the
