:00:12. > :00:14.Good evening from BBC London News. for the news where you are.

:00:15. > :00:17.The Mayor has described the decision to cut the number of affordable

:00:18. > :00:19.homes at the Battersea Power Station development as "shameful

:00:20. > :00:27.The multi-billion pound project will have More than 4,200

:00:28. > :00:29.The multi-billion pound project will have more than 4,200

:00:30. > :00:32.Fifteen per cent were meant to be affordable.

:00:33. > :00:36.The developer insists it's down to rising cost.

:00:37. > :00:38.Marc Ashdown has the story and his report contains

:00:39. > :00:42.Since it closed in 1983, rows over its future have been

:00:43. > :00:46.as dominant as its place on London's skyline.

:00:47. > :00:52.What to do about the problem is large and complex

:00:53. > :00:55.What to do about the problem as large and complex

:00:56. > :00:57.as Battersea Power Station has occupied planners and headline

:00:58. > :01:00.I have been covering stories on Battersea Power Station

:01:01. > :01:03.for about the past 20 years since writing for a local

:01:04. > :01:07.Back then in the mid-1990s, the plan was for a theme park here.

:01:08. > :01:09.When that was derailed it was eventually sold

:01:10. > :01:12.They put forward multiple plans, including one for a restaurant

:01:13. > :01:17.When that failed it was sold to an Irish consortium,

:01:18. > :01:20.but then the financial crash hit and the whole lot

:01:21. > :01:31.They launched the project in Malaysia and while the then mayor

:01:32. > :01:33.was firmly on board his successor has criticised Wandsworth,

:01:34. > :01:36.the local council, for allowing the amount of affordable housing

:01:37. > :01:47.Me being generous, the council have been hoodwinked,

:01:48. > :01:49.Londoners will not unreasonably be asking questions why is this council

:01:50. > :01:52.bending over backwards to reduce the amount of the affordable homes

:01:53. > :01:55.and giving in to the request of developers making a huge profit?

:01:56. > :01:57.Wandsworth point out it has delivered the second-highest number

:01:58. > :01:59.of affordable homes in London and this project will deliver

:02:00. > :02:02.a new tube stop and 25,000 jobs in the area.

:02:03. > :02:04.The developer says it will deliver for the community.

:02:05. > :02:06.The policy is about homes and also about jobs,

:02:07. > :02:10.so we are 50% commercial and 50% residential.

:02:11. > :02:12.20,000 new jobs across the site and 2 billion

:02:13. > :02:20.Actually now what we have is an agreement that it

:02:21. > :02:24.If we perform fantastically well, we provide more than that.

:02:25. > :02:27.All this cannot come soon enough say some with so many people

:02:28. > :02:31.The impact this has on the housing crisis really should

:02:32. > :02:34.Rents are going up, homelessness is going up,

:02:35. > :02:40.This is all because we do not have enough homes and we do not have

:02:41. > :02:41.enough genuinely affordable homes and developers wriggling out

:02:42. > :02:44.of their obligations, reducing them, makes things a lot worse.

:02:45. > :02:46.There is no doubt this development will breathe life

:02:47. > :02:49.finally into this area, but how much it will truly benefit

:02:50. > :02:57.Murder detectives are investigating after a 13-year-old boy died

:02:58. > :03:01.from an allergic reaction at his school in Greenford.

:03:02. > :03:05.A fellow pupil has been arrested and released on bail.

:03:06. > :03:12.Katharine Carpenter is here, what more do we know?

:03:13. > :03:20.This all took place nearly two weeks ago on the 28th of June when police

:03:21. > :03:24.were called to the William Perkins Church of England high school in

:03:25. > :03:28.Greenford. They found a 13-year-old boy who was suffering a severe

:03:29. > :03:33.allergic reaction. We do not know at this stage what he was allergic to.

:03:34. > :03:36.He was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition where he

:03:37. > :03:42.died yesterday with his parents by his side. We do know the boy's name

:03:43. > :03:47.but we have decided not to broadcast it in accordance with his parents'

:03:48. > :03:49.wishes. His school has spoken out today, his headteacher talking of

:03:50. > :03:53.He was really well integrated into his peer group.

:03:54. > :03:57.The students have first of all sent a lot of good wishes to him

:03:58. > :03:59.in hospital and subsequently have spent time in the chapel

:04:00. > :04:08.It has been a very sad time for the school.

:04:09. > :04:14.What can you tell us about the police investigation? It was not

:04:15. > :04:18.just the Ambulance Service that was called that morning, the police were

:04:19. > :04:22.also summoned. It had become clear that some sort of incident had taken

:04:23. > :04:28.place which caused the boy to come into contact with this particular

:04:29. > :04:32.allergen. We do not know any more, but we know a fellow pupil, a

:04:33. > :04:37.13-year-old, was arrested and questioned by police and he has now

:04:38. > :04:40.been released on police bail. To give you a sense of the seriousness

:04:41. > :04:45.of this incident, this was being dealt with by Ealing Borough and is

:04:46. > :04:50.now being dealt with by the homicide and major crime command. The schools

:04:51. > :04:51.say they did have a care plan in place for this boy and they are

:04:52. > :04:55.reviewing their own procedures. Traders say they have lost

:04:56. > :04:58.everything in a massive fire that broke out last night in Camden

:04:59. > :04:59.Market. Although no-one was hurt it took 70

:05:00. > :05:02.firefighters to control the blaze. It's the second major fire to hit

:05:03. > :05:05.the market in a decade. Millions come here every year

:05:06. > :05:10.to shop in the market. For some hours it looked

:05:11. > :05:14.like it might be lost. Firefighters managed

:05:15. > :05:16.to contain the blaze and thankfully no one was hurt,

:05:17. > :05:19.but dozens of London traders had Yvonne had just been taken to see

:05:20. > :05:25.the shell of her jewellery store My friend called me at 12

:05:26. > :05:30.o'clock and I was sleeping I thought it was an emergency call

:05:31. > :05:36.and I took the phone up and I called her back and she said

:05:37. > :05:39.Camden Market is on fire. Everything has gone, it has

:05:40. > :05:43.all gone, everything, definitely. It was the central market hall where

:05:44. > :05:47.it is thought the fire started, another decades-old guitar store

:05:48. > :05:52.was also lost. The owners have still got their shop

:05:53. > :05:56.nearby but ?10,000 worth of stock Coming here and seeing all the glass

:05:57. > :06:03.just smashed in and black and the roof completely gone I feel

:06:04. > :06:07.really emotional, quite shocked Ten fire engines were

:06:08. > :06:13.on the scene in minutes. 70 firefighters fought to stop

:06:14. > :06:16.the spread to nearby An investigation into how the fire

:06:17. > :06:21.started is under way. It was a well-developed

:06:22. > :06:24.fire when we got here. Fire crews worked very hard

:06:25. > :06:29.to contain within that area of the property and we managed

:06:30. > :06:32.to save the rest of the property. It is the second time in recent

:06:33. > :06:35.years the North London market has In February 2008 a fire put many

:06:36. > :06:46.waterside traders out The issue we had there is it took

:06:47. > :06:51.weeks for traders to be relocated to a new position to trade

:06:52. > :06:57.and for a lot of market if you lose one week's trade,

:06:58. > :06:59.you are done. Traders were confident this

:07:00. > :07:01.tight-knit community will pull together to support

:07:02. > :07:07.those worst affected. Most of all, many were just

:07:08. > :07:19.grateful knowing it could He has devoted much of his life to

:07:20. > :07:23.looking after the 2500 acres of Richmond Park. Now the gamekeeper

:07:24. > :07:29.who has been there for three decades is retiring. After 30 years John

:07:30. > :07:35.Bartram is saying goodbye to the workplace he has loved. The best job

:07:36. > :07:39.in the world. It is a job everybody wanted. John Bartram has spent most

:07:40. > :07:45.of his life as gamekeeper in Richmond Park, all 2500 acres of it,

:07:46. > :07:51.and no one knows the place better. We are looking for Stags. Every day

:07:52. > :07:56.he has checked on the 600 animals and every year search for newborns

:07:57. > :08:00.in the bracken. I have done it sometimes and the baby things I am

:08:01. > :08:06.the mother and I have walked away and he is running behind me. But as

:08:07. > :08:14.well as life, he has had to deal with a fair bit of death. While we

:08:15. > :08:19.were filming another call came in. A dead deer. If you find the sight of

:08:20. > :08:24.dead animals upsetting, you may like to look away, but for John this is

:08:25. > :08:29.part of the job. It could have been hit by a car. That is what you are

:08:30. > :08:33.here for. There have been times when it has been hit by a car and is

:08:34. > :08:38.still alive but in serious trouble and it needs dealing with and you

:08:39. > :08:42.might have to shoot it. As gamekeeper John was also tasked with

:08:43. > :08:46.the annual cull where for three months of the year selected animals

:08:47. > :08:52.are shot to keep the population to 600. You are going for the worst

:08:53. > :08:55.animal every time, so you are looking for one you think in a

:08:56. > :08:59.natural world a pack of wolves would take it out. Until the policy

:09:00. > :09:06.changed, John would prepare venison meat from the cult for Buckingham

:09:07. > :09:11.Palace and, politicians. They would all get a free haunch. No one gets a

:09:12. > :09:18.free haunch now. Toni Blair stopped it, and the Labour Party. Not even

:09:19. > :09:23.the Queen? No. Some things may have changed, but in many ways Richmond

:09:24. > :09:28.Park is still the place it was when first established in 1637. Now it is

:09:29. > :09:33.saying farewell to a gamekeeper who gave it the best years of his life.

:09:34. > :09:36.I'll say goodnight now and let's get a check

:09:37. > :09:49.This is not a weather watcher picture, this is a forecast of what

:09:50. > :09:56.is to come. Rain is on its way. It was a bit of a different beast today

:09:57. > :09:59.because some of you saw some pretty sharp showers and thunderstorms

:10:00. > :10:06.rolling across the top end of our patch. Many of you will stay dry

:10:07. > :10:11.overnight, 12-15 should just about cover it. Not as steamy as last

:10:12. > :10:17.week. It looks as though tomorrow it is rain from the word go? It is not

:10:18. > :10:21.the case, it is light and patchy and many of you could get through the

:10:22. > :10:27.morning into the afternoon before you see anything like a meaningful

:10:28. > :10:31.drop of rain. How does that leave Wimbledon? Not too bad to start

:10:32. > :10:38.with. There is a chance of a shower, but later on, deeper in the day, it

:10:39. > :10:43.will start raining and it will be a wet night right across the piece.

:10:44. > :10:47.There is no escaping from this. You could see an inch of rain. On

:10:48. > :10:52.Wednesday the rain clears away and we are left with a decent sort of

:10:53. > :10:57.day as a ridge of high pressure comes in from the Atlantic. That

:10:58. > :11:00.gives us a pretty decent end to the week, 22 or 23 degrees. If you have

:11:01. > :11:04.got a plan week, 22 or 23 degrees. If you have

:11:05. > :11:11.got a plan for the weekend, there are not any great fireworks and the

:11:12. > :11:14.weather should not get in the way. It has been a Monday characterised

:11:15. > :11:20.by sunny spells and scattered showers and a bit of heat as well.

:11:21. > :11:25.In the South resource 27 degrees today. Tomorrow it will be much

:11:26. > :11:31.fresher with rain. We have some showers today and this was

:11:32. > :11:35.Lincolnshire early on. Not a typical July afternoon. Most of the showers

:11:36. > :11:40.were in eastern England, some of them heavy with thunder. In the last

:11:41. > :11:45.few hours we have seen 25 millimetres of rain with isolated

:11:46. > :11:50.and potent showers on the Kent coast. They will fade away. In the

:11:51. > :11:53.west we see cloud and patchy outbreaks of rain overnight. Not

:11:54. > :11:54.quite
