:00:00. > :00:11.Here on BBC One, it's time for the news where you are.

:00:12. > :00:16.A number of businesses, politicians and institutions have

:00:17. > :00:19.joined forces to send a strong message to the Government,

:00:20. > :00:24.calling upon it to protect London's interests during talks over Brexit.

:00:25. > :00:28.They argue London has specific needs and it must have access

:00:29. > :00:32.Our Brexit Reporter, Katharine Carpenter,

:00:33. > :00:35.has been to a business in east London which was today

:00:36. > :00:38.celebrating a very special honour bestowed on it -

:00:39. > :00:46.This family have been smoking salmon in London for over a century.

:00:47. > :00:54.It's now a cultural artefact, protected by European law.

:00:55. > :00:58.It's the same status that champagne has, and Parma ham.

:00:59. > :01:02.It really puts London up there with great foods.

:01:03. > :01:05.So our food can compete with Europe, but can our city

:01:06. > :01:14.32 officials have signed up to an open letter to the Government,

:01:15. > :01:18.asking it to bear in mind London's specific needs when it comes

:01:19. > :01:23.In particular, it wants to see a stable transition period

:01:24. > :01:26.with access to the single market, so businesses can plan.

:01:27. > :01:29.It wants to see a liberal migration policy so there

:01:30. > :01:34.And a deal which will mean it is easy to trade goods

:01:35. > :01:39.I don't think this letter will dramatically change the course

:01:40. > :01:41.of Brexit overnight, no, of course not.

:01:42. > :01:46.But it is just one walkway to keep...

:01:47. > :01:48.To keep the conversation going, to make the voice

:01:49. > :01:53.He says there has been a drop of European students signing up

:01:54. > :02:04.If we don't have a trade deal, many businesses in London will not

:02:05. > :02:15.Accountants won't have their qualifications recognised. Airlines

:02:16. > :02:16.won't be able to travel between the countries.

:02:17. > :02:18.Intellectual property rights may not be recognised in film and TV.

:02:19. > :02:22.Many vital services may not be able to trade if we do not have a good

:02:23. > :02:24.trade deal in place, a good transition.

:02:25. > :02:25.Back in the smokehouse, the Environment Secretary

:02:26. > :02:28.was sampling the fish, while the ambition to get a good

:02:29. > :02:37.He said that Brexit will afford opportunities.

:02:38. > :02:41.I think the object is to resell ourselves and to rebrand

:02:42. > :02:49.There is an irony that you're celebrating an honour given

:02:50. > :02:55.by the European Union, a body you campaigned to leave?

:02:56. > :03:01.And we have been in business since well before the EU came

:03:02. > :03:07.into being, and we were unaware that was going to happen.

:03:08. > :03:11.If Britain had its own award scheme, we would have done that.

:03:12. > :03:14.He doesn't know if he will keep his protected status after Brexit.

:03:15. > :03:18.Like everything else in this process, that has

:03:19. > :03:24.Our reporter Louisa Preston is with me.

:03:25. > :03:27.Calls for the Mayor of London to be allowed to be more involved

:03:28. > :03:38.That's right. We know many prominent figures in London are extremely

:03:39. > :03:43.concerned about the city in these negotiations. They are very

:03:44. > :03:46.concerned about businesses. It could be very damaging, with up to 70,000

:03:47. > :03:53.jobs going just in the financial sector. A report today specifically

:03:54. > :03:56.says that the mayor, Sadiq Khan, should have a prominent input in the

:03:57. > :04:02.negotiations, and he definitely wants a foot under the table. He's

:04:03. > :04:09.said that. But the EU Brexit cheap, Michel Barnier, says he'll only

:04:10. > :04:13.negotiate with the UK Government. But today Jeremy Corbyn met Michel

:04:14. > :04:17.Barnier, giving him an Arsenal shirt today with his name on it. We are

:04:18. > :04:22.told that went down well. And he met the Scottish and Welsh first

:04:23. > :04:25.ministers. But with EU nations relying heavily on the City of

:04:26. > :04:32.London for their financial needs, and Michel Barnier saying in the

:04:33. > :04:33.past, it would seem likely that Sadiq Khan will have some say at

:04:34. > :04:35.some stage. Thank you. A parliamentary vote on plans

:04:36. > :04:38.to expand Heathrow Airport has been delayed further,

:04:39. > :04:41.until at least next year. In a statement, Transport

:04:42. > :04:43.Secretary Chris Grayling said June's general election

:04:44. > :04:46.had led to the postponement. A Commons vote is expected

:04:47. > :04:52.to take place next year. The Queen has opened

:04:53. > :04:54.the Metropolitan Police's New Scotland Yard is now based

:04:55. > :04:58.at Victoria Embankment. The old headquarters

:04:59. > :05:01.were sold for hundreds of millions of pounds,

:05:02. > :05:04.and will be turned Last week, the Home Office announced

:05:05. > :05:11.a 12-month amnesty for illegal immigrants who'd been living

:05:12. > :05:14.inside the Grenfell Tower Investigators believe 350

:05:15. > :05:20.people were officially living there at the time,

:05:21. > :05:24.but it's not known how many more people may have been staying

:05:25. > :05:28.in the block when the fire started. We may never know how many illegal

:05:29. > :05:31.immigrants lived in Grenfell Tower, She agreed to speak

:05:32. > :05:38.to us on the condition What support have you received

:05:39. > :05:43.since the night of the fire? I'm not paying the rent and I'm not

:05:44. > :05:56.supposed to be in the tower. Investigators believe

:05:57. > :05:59.that around 350 people were living inside the tower,

:06:00. > :06:02.but residents like Rhea were not registered,

:06:03. > :06:04.and it's not known how many other people were in the same situation

:06:05. > :06:07.and whether they are among those Last week, the Home Office granted

:06:08. > :06:36.a 12-month deportation amnesty But with a young son

:06:37. > :06:41.in the UK and a family to support in the Philippines,

:06:42. > :06:43.she still has fears Her friend and her daughter

:06:44. > :07:17.both managed to escape They have since been

:07:18. > :07:20.discharged from hospital. But the ordeal has

:07:21. > :07:23.deeply affected Rhea. How have you coped with the trauma

:07:24. > :07:26.of surviving something as horrific That was an illegal immigrant

:07:27. > :08:01.speaking to our reporter. An aristocrat has been sentenced

:08:02. > :08:04.to 12 weeks in prison after being found guilty of making

:08:05. > :08:06.menacing communications towards the businesswoman and

:08:07. > :08:08.anti-Brexit campaigner Gina Miller. Rhodri Philipps - the 4th

:08:09. > :08:10.Viscount St Davids - wrote a post on Facebook offering

:08:11. > :08:13.?5,000 to anyone who ran her over. The 4th Viscount St Davids,

:08:14. > :08:20.Rhodri Philipps, forced to answer for his threatening

:08:21. > :08:23.abuse on Facebook. Well, justice will be

:08:24. > :08:26.served, without question. I have belief in the British courts,

:08:27. > :08:33.and anything that I've done wrong... He targeted Gina Miller,

:08:34. > :08:45.who took the Government to court over Brexit,

:08:46. > :09:01.writing: At first, I sort of read it

:09:02. > :09:04.and re-read it, because it seemed so barbaric, but that was the first

:09:05. > :09:08.time that I felt truly threatened. Lord St Davids was given the chance

:09:09. > :09:12.to speak to the court in person and, in a passionate speech,

:09:13. > :09:15.he said he realised that his comments were very unkind,

:09:16. > :09:19.unnecessary, self-indulgent expletives of anger

:09:20. > :09:22.which he could not contain. He'd claimed he was motivated by his

:09:23. > :09:29.family motto, love of country. The district judge, Emma Arbuthnot,

:09:30. > :09:33.said it was actually hatred of anyone who disagreed

:09:34. > :09:36.with his views and of those Privileged, entitled

:09:37. > :09:41.and now heading to jail, an establishment man brought down

:09:42. > :09:45.by the menacing racial abuse That's it for now from me, but let's

:09:46. > :10:12.find out what the weather's up It's not too bad, is it? 23 degrees

:10:13. > :10:16.today, and that was despite quite a bit of cloud across the capital and

:10:17. > :10:22.surrounding area. This was sent in late in the day, a lovely end to the

:10:23. > :10:25.day. It doesn't have to be sunny, does it? It doesn't look as though

:10:26. > :10:30.it will be quite as cool as last night, certainly comfortable. Just

:10:31. > :10:33.the outside chance of a light, drizzly shower in the north of the

:10:34. > :10:39.region tomorrow morning, but otherwise it looks a decent today.

:10:40. > :10:44.Despite starting on the cool side, the sun comes out and the afternoon

:10:45. > :10:49.looks fine for the men's semifinals. 22, 20 three Celsius, strong

:10:50. > :10:52.sunshine. Friday night and into Saturday, more chance of picking up

:10:53. > :10:57.the odd drizzly shower. A week weather front drapes itself to the

:10:58. > :11:01.north of us, but still lots of dry and bright weather. The outlook, it

:11:02. > :11:04.has been very hot in Spain, as and bright weather. The outlook, it

:11:05. > :11:06.has been very hot in Spain, as you may have seen. We could get some eat

:11:07. > :11:09.next week.
