:01:25. > :01:28.their identity and potentially make arrests. In the UK we have policing

:01:29. > :01:31.by consent but there is no public consent to the use of this

:02:19. > :02:25.shops, public areas, hotels, bars, so they are already being recorded.

:02:26. > :02:34.The only difference here is that the police are looking at the faces

:02:35. > :02:41.captured and it's being run through a soft algorithim, which only makes

:02:42. > :02:47.the crowd safer. Those I spoke were split I understand why they want to

:02:48. > :02:53.do it but it'll make everyone feel uncomfortable. I think it is a good

:02:54. > :02:59.idea. If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about I

:03:00. > :03:04.don't think it is really needed, to be honest. What do you think they

:03:05. > :03:07.should be doing instead? Managing the community better. No arrests

:03:08. > :03:12.were made using the technology last year. Police say once the trial is

:03:16. > :03:17.A South London hospital trust has apologised

:03:18. > :03:19.after inspectors issued a damning report into its patient care -

:03:20. > :03:26.The hospital watchdog found that staff working at Greenwich

:03:27. > :03:30.and Lewisham NHS Trust weren't meeting basic cleanliness

:03:31. > :03:32.standards, with some staff not washing their hands before

:03:33. > :03:33.treatments and patients with infectious diseases

:03:34. > :03:42.Our political correspondent Karl Mercer has this report.

:03:43. > :03:46.Florence is one of the first patients to try out this new unit

:03:47. > :03:47.at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich.

:03:48. > :03:54.And bosses here hope it will be part of the answer to turning

:03:55. > :03:58.It's had three inspections from the health watchdog

:03:59. > :04:03.The general culture, you know, the way staff

:04:04. > :04:05.are talking to patients, is not what we'd expect to see.

:04:06. > :04:08.We pulled the trust up on it certainly last year,

:04:09. > :04:10.when we inspected medical services in the emergency department.

:04:11. > :04:13.And it's disappointing we're still seeing those failings happening.

:04:14. > :04:19.Staff had not washed their hands between patients.

:04:20. > :04:21.Doctors were seen taking outdoor bags into anaesthetic

:04:22. > :04:27.Some TB patients weren't properly isolated from other patients.

:04:28. > :04:30.And there was dirty and poor standard equipment.

:04:31. > :04:33.No, it doesn't make happy reading, and we want to apologise

:04:34. > :04:35.to all those patients who actually haven't got the level of care

:04:36. > :04:41.And all those many individual patients who have had that

:04:42. > :04:47.The hospital, like others, has had trouble moving people out

:04:48. > :04:50.into the community and at the same time, has seen more people coming

:04:51. > :04:54.The staff work very, very hard under very

:04:55. > :04:58.There is evidence of extreme pressure, increased numbers

:04:59. > :05:02.of patients that we're seeing in the hospitals.

:05:03. > :05:06.And that does create their own pressures.

:05:07. > :05:08.We've had problems as well with discharging patients

:05:09. > :05:10.out of the hospital, which obviously then gives

:05:11. > :05:16.But you're right, we have to get those basics right.

:05:17. > :05:19.The fact they haven't been getting those basics right meant

:05:20. > :05:21.that the Care Quality Commission considered putting them

:05:22. > :05:24.I think the whole health system are watching Lewisham

:05:25. > :05:30.and Greenwich very closely, it certainly has a history.

:05:31. > :05:34.The ratings are such that actually, as a trust that requires improvement

:05:35. > :05:35.with some inadequate services, we certainly had discussions

:05:36. > :05:37.about special measures, but considered they weren't

:05:38. > :05:45.As I say, we will keep them under close observation.

:05:46. > :05:49.The CQC will be back for unannounced inspections soon.

:05:50. > :05:53.The trust says it hopes it has turned a corner and will soon be

:05:54. > :06:02.delivery better care for its patients.

:06:03. > :06:05.Jim joins us in the studio, and Lewisham isn't alone in getting

:06:06. > :06:15.No it certainly isn't. Let's look at the numbers. The CQC looked at 18

:06:16. > :06:21.trusts across London. Six of those were rated as "good." Just

:06:22. > :06:23.one-third. Ten were marked down as "requiring improvement", like

:06:24. > :06:30.Greenwich and Lewisham which we heard about in Karl's package and

:06:31. > :06:34.finally, two, were classed as "inadequate" in other words, put in

:06:35. > :06:39.special measures. They are Bart's trust, one of the biggest in London

:06:40. > :06:44.and St George's in Tooting. It seems a lot of these problems come up time

:06:45. > :06:50.and time again That's right. Look at the reports and there are themes,

:06:51. > :06:53.financial constraints, basically not enough money. Growing demand, more

:06:54. > :06:58.people coming through the front door and then the other end of the

:06:59. > :07:02.problem is - people not being able to get home. This age-old problem of

:07:03. > :07:04.bedblocking. And another thing that is constantly repeated is vacancies,

:07:05. > :07:08.staff vacancies and executives for NHS Trusts, they point to these

:07:09. > :07:13.things and say - these are structural problems it is not just

:07:14. > :07:14.down to mismanagement in individual trusts. Thank you.

:07:15. > :07:16.The wait for students - and their parents -

:07:17. > :07:20.While many will now be making the move to university,

:07:21. > :07:22.there's concern that students are overlooking another

:07:23. > :07:28.It comes at the same time as demand for the young trainees has rocketed.

:07:29. > :07:31.Our Education reporter Marc Ashdown has more.

:07:32. > :07:33.The nervous faces, the shuffle through, and finally,

:07:34. > :07:50.Attention now turns to their next step.

:07:51. > :07:52.The Government wants more young people to swap university

:07:53. > :08:02.The trouble is, in London, that's not going so well.

:08:03. > :08:05.Other parts of the country have seen the numbers double, the capital

:08:06. > :08:11.It's harder to attract high performing students to ditch

:08:12. > :08:14.I got four As and I'm going to Oxford University

:08:15. > :08:26.But demand for apprentices is growing, especially

:08:27. > :08:37.At this cyber lab they are training in online security.

:08:38. > :08:40.The red team are trying to hack in, while the blues are defending.

:08:41. > :08:48.For these four apprentices, the upside are clear.

:08:49. > :08:51.The top thing is earning a salary, a really good salary.

:08:52. > :08:55.All my friends are huge amount of debt and I have none.

:08:56. > :08:58.I managed to buy a house when I was 20 years old,

:08:59. > :09:03.I beat my friends who went to university.

:09:04. > :09:06.I can work there and see where my work is being tailored to.

:09:07. > :09:10.I am definitely working and learning.

:09:11. > :09:12.I dropped out of university after two years.

:09:13. > :09:15.It was one of the best choices I made.

:09:16. > :09:30.I am earning, I am learning and I don't have any debt.

:09:31. > :09:36.I think will see a lot more in the next three

:09:37. > :09:38.the apprenticeship programme fits London's economy much better.

:09:39. > :09:51.It just takes a bit of time for it to catch up.

:09:52. > :09:54.These parents wanted their children to go down the traditional route.

:09:55. > :09:59.He has broken out of the mould, but I'm glad that he has succeeded.

:10:00. > :10:01.I realise that now, he has the responsibility,

:10:02. > :10:03.he is not a boy any more, here's a man.

:10:04. > :10:07.For these students, it has been a long and winding

:10:08. > :10:12.That's it for now from me, but let's find out what the weather's

:10:13. > :10:21.Thank you very much. A warm and humid day. Top temperatures 25. A

:10:22. > :10:25.fine evening and night, largely dry and warm. Temperatures is a or 16.

:10:26. > :10:29.Tomorrow looking pretty good. Sunny spells, a few showers around. A

:10:30. > :10:37.different feel to the air. We have lost the humidity. Although it will

:10:38. > :10:40.be sunny there could be the odd shower through the afternoon

:10:41. > :10:44.passing. Temperatures-buys. 21 or 22. You will notice the difference.

:10:45. > :10:48.It will be breezy as well. Now this area of low pressure

:10:49. > :10:52.hurtling towards us in the Atlantic, will contain the recommend nabs of

:10:53. > :10:59.what was hurricane Gert will bring rain to our shores on Monday. For

:11:00. > :11:01.Saturday, looking dry, sunshine around, temperatures 22. A fine

:11:02. > :11:05.start to the around, temperatures 22. A fine

:11:06. > :11:15.start to the weekend. Maybe some rain on Sunday, some shooun and

:11:16. > :11:16.warmth on Monday. As
