:00:20. > :00:22.things are about to get even worse over the Bank Holiday weekend.

:00:23. > :00:24.In fact Network Rail says it'll be their biggest

:00:25. > :00:28.ever August Bank Holiday of engineering works.

:00:29. > :00:30.Several main London stations will be affected -

:00:31. > :00:38.No bank holiday break for these rail engineers,

:00:39. > :00:41.working to modernise the network across the capital.

:00:42. > :00:44.When it comes to the disruption to services over the next three

:00:45. > :00:48.days, it's a fairly comprehensive picture, with most of the main

:00:49. > :00:55.Except for Euston, which will be closed altogether.

:00:56. > :00:58.This is all a small price to pay for improvements

:00:59. > :01:02.that will last for decades, that's according to Network Rail.

:01:03. > :01:04.It's about increasing capacity through the centre of London,

:01:05. > :01:07.but also improving the range of destinations passengers

:01:08. > :01:11.For instance, travelling from Cambridge down to Brighton,

:01:12. > :01:15.So the range of travel opportunities will increase significantly

:01:16. > :01:20.At Wembley, fans gathering for the Rugby League Cup Final

:01:21. > :01:25.And Arsenal fans going to Liverpool on Sunday won't be

:01:26. > :01:31.But for many Londoners, it's the continued disruption

:01:35. > :01:39.They're all saying go with plan B - stay at home,

:01:40. > :01:43.But I'm not quite sure that'll happen for some people,

:01:44. > :01:45.because they have to be in and be seen.

:01:46. > :01:47.Apparently I've only got trains into Victoria,

:01:48. > :01:51.So I've got to work out how to get there.

:01:52. > :01:54.I think if it has to be done at this time of year when it's quieter

:01:55. > :01:56.than the commuter time, then so be it.

:01:57. > :02:04.There are three separate, large projects working simultaneously,

:02:05. > :02:08.so why not stagger them rather than cause so much chaos at once?

:02:09. > :02:11.The majority of work we carry out actually takes place overnight.

:02:12. > :02:16.We carry out about 15,000 projects, most of them happen overnight.

:02:17. > :02:19.But the ideal time is bank holidays, when there are fewer people

:02:20. > :02:22.travelling, and we can deliver these railway megaprojects

:02:23. > :02:25.and we can get in there and deliver larger projects.

:02:26. > :02:27.17,000 engineers will be working around the clock

:02:28. > :02:37.Well into next week, the advice is to carefully plan your journey.

:02:38. > :02:41.This weekend's Notting Hill Carnival will be one - like never before.

:02:42. > :02:45.Police say they'll have a ring of steel and concrete which they say

:02:46. > :02:47.will help "protect Carnival-goers" from the threat of a

:02:48. > :02:53.Officers will also carry kits to deal with acid attacks.

:02:54. > :02:56.But they have come under criticism for their approach

:02:57. > :03:05.Barcelona, and yet another vehicle borne attack.

:03:06. > :03:08.And top of the Met police's safety concerns when it comes to Carnival.

:03:09. > :03:13.It was one of several areas Scotland Yard

:03:14. > :03:16.So those coming to Carnival will see hostile vehicle mitigation.

:03:17. > :03:20.Blocks of concrete that will stop and prohibit vehicle access

:03:21. > :03:27.A familiar site at this time of year in Notting Hill,

:03:28. > :03:33.What has been a less familiar theme in the past has been

:03:34. > :03:37.Today, we also found out that officers along the route will have

:03:38. > :03:45.This year's pre-Carnival raids have led to over 600 arrests and knives,

:03:46. > :03:51.The grime artist Stormzy criticised tweets from the Met

:03:52. > :03:55.showing seized drugs, accusing them of only tweeting

:03:56. > :04:00.But the Met responded today, calling it an uncompromising

:04:01. > :04:06.The Metropolitan Police are charged with the safety and security

:04:07. > :04:11.of the largest event in the capital's calendar.

:04:12. > :04:14.It would be remiss of us not to be robust.

:04:15. > :04:18.We will be uncompromising on our determination

:04:19. > :04:21.to keep our communities safe and secure, and that is why

:04:22. > :04:27.we always have, at all of our major events, an intelligence led

:04:28. > :04:34.Up to 1 million people will dance through the streets

:04:35. > :04:38.The message from the Met police today was clear,

:04:39. > :04:47.It's one of the busiest motorway junctions in the country with more

:04:48. > :04:51.accidents than any other in England - But plans to improve the M25

:04:52. > :04:54.at junction 10 could threaten a number of rare trees and plants

:04:55. > :05:06.Highways England says the upgrade will make the road safer -

:05:19. > :05:20.The junction's congested, and Highways England

:05:21. > :05:25.The Royal Horticultural Society is worried one proposal

:05:26. > :05:28.will see the A3 widened, potentially losing

:05:29. > :05:41.Over 100 years old, one of several down this great strip, this,

:05:42. > :05:43.along with rhododendrons, magnolias, camellias -

:05:44. > :05:51.The RHS fears 500 trees in total could be cut down.

:05:52. > :05:54.Highways England says the strip of road in question has one

:05:55. > :05:57.of the highest collision rates in the country, and they

:05:58. > :06:04.I use that road everyday too, I'm also a commuter coming from London,

:06:05. > :06:09.But there is a brownfield site on the other side of the road

:06:10. > :06:11.where an extension could take place which wouldn't involve taking some

:06:12. > :06:15.The RHS wants Highways England to choose an option

:07:35. > :07:47.Tuesday. Now the National forecast. Hello, good evening. A mainly quiet

:07:48. > :07:52.weekend of whether coming up but on the other side of the Atlantic, a

:07:53. > :07:55.major weather story is developing. Hurricane Harvey has been
