:00:00. > :00:00.from captain Steve Davis sealing a 3-0 victory, leaving them second in

:00:00. > :00:18.their group. Good evening and welcome to BBC

:00:19. > :00:20.London news with me Louisa Preston. First tonight, an exclusive report

:00:21. > :00:23.on the million pound luxury river Families invested in the houseboats

:00:24. > :00:29.on the River Thames in Hampton, only to find out after they bought

:00:30. > :00:32.them that they were worthless, as they didn't have planning

:00:33. > :00:35.permission or mooring rights. Today, the High Court ruled

:00:36. > :00:37.that the developer had misrepresented the rights

:00:38. > :00:39.to live onboard, and ruled This is how it was sold -

:00:40. > :00:51.a luxury lifestyle on board designer houseboats on the Thames

:00:52. > :00:53.near Hampton Court. Because there was no planning

:00:54. > :00:59.permission for anyone Now, following a civil court case,

:01:00. > :01:03.the developer behind this Even though, as he has

:01:04. > :01:14.made perfectly clear, This is Myck Djurberg,

:01:15. > :01:18.a developer who promised to make dreams come true

:01:19. > :01:20.but left his customers Let's start with Jennifer Small

:01:21. > :01:33.and her family who sold their five bedroomed home to buy a houseboat

:01:34. > :01:35.at Hampton Riviera because they We were really excited to be

:01:36. > :01:41.involved in the development Estate agent's details

:01:42. > :01:48.described a stunning home. But soon after they moved in,

:01:49. > :02:01.the Smalls discovered there was no planning permission for residential

:02:02. > :02:03.development at all. And if they stayed on, they would be

:02:04. > :02:06.living there unlawfully. When we first met the Smalls,

:02:07. > :02:15.they had had to move into a rented home, but right next door

:02:16. > :02:18.to the boat yard so they could keep an eye on their

:02:19. > :02:20.expensive investment. The closest they could get

:02:21. > :02:26.to it was to peek over That is our house that we built

:02:27. > :02:32.that we cannot live in any more. These people have had

:02:33. > :02:34.their lives destroyed When these properties were sold,

:02:35. > :02:38.people were not aware of the fact that they had no legal rights

:02:39. > :02:41.to live within them. There was no legal residential

:02:42. > :02:45.planning permission granted. Vivian and Simon Keatey won't get

:02:46. > :02:49.any money back because they were not involved in the civil case

:02:50. > :02:51.but they also bought a house Again, a few months after moving in,

:02:52. > :02:57.found out it had no They have now had to move it nine

:02:58. > :03:04.miles upriver to find land where they can moor and that has

:03:05. > :03:09.cost them a further ?360,000. It is really only when we got

:03:10. > :03:12.away from it, from that poisonous atmosphere,

:03:13. > :03:15.that you realise what The Smalls have now moved

:03:16. > :03:21.their houseboat away from Hampton Riviera

:03:22. > :03:25.but it is not a solution. This is it, we cannot live on it

:03:26. > :03:28.here because there is no Their house boat is so large,

:03:29. > :03:35.a place to moor where they can live on board may cost them

:03:36. > :03:37.at least ?500,000. Would you like to

:03:38. > :03:42.apologise to anyone? Throughout this civil

:03:43. > :03:44.case in the High Court, Would you like to apologise

:03:45. > :03:50.to anyone you misled? ..Seen here in an orange jumper,

:03:51. > :03:53.maintained he had done nothing wrong and claimed there were historic

:03:54. > :03:56.rights to live at the marina. Now he will have to repay

:03:57. > :04:07.approaching ?2 million. A man's been jailed for trying

:04:08. > :04:09.to rob West Ham footballer Andy Carroll as he drove

:04:10. > :04:14.home from training. Jack O'Brien was sentenced to 11

:04:15. > :04:20.years for multiple offences, which included an attempt to take

:04:21. > :04:22.the footballer's watch while he was waiting

:04:23. > :04:24.at traffic lights in his jeep. The pair were then involved

:04:25. > :04:27.in a high speed chase A man from Surrey who claims

:04:28. > :04:31.he was wrongly jailed for mailbag theft in the 1970s has had his case

:04:32. > :04:34.referred to the Court Stephen Simmons spent seven months

:04:35. > :04:39.imprisoned for the crime but a chance internet search 40

:04:40. > :04:43.years later revealed that the officer who'd arrested him,

:04:44. > :04:45.had a disturbing history. First shame, then jail

:04:46. > :04:53.and finally now, vindication. Why were three men wrongly jailed

:04:54. > :04:56.for a train robbery and why has it taken one of them,

:04:57. > :04:58.this man, 40 years The whole thing is a complete

:04:59. > :05:05.fabrication, it's all full of lies. In his home in Dorking,

:05:06. > :05:08.Stephen Simmons still has the original police witness

:05:09. > :05:13.statements from his trial back in 1976, when he was convicted

:05:14. > :05:16.of stealing Royal Mail bags He was in the wrong

:05:17. > :05:21.place at the wrong time. He says simply rounded up

:05:22. > :05:25.by the arresting officer, one DC Derek Ridgewell,

:05:26. > :05:27.who himself was to Ridgewell grabbed my head and pushed

:05:28. > :05:34.my head onto the roof of the car. And said, you are under arrest

:05:35. > :05:37.for the theft of Royal Mail bags. We were thinking, where would

:05:38. > :05:40.you get Royal Mail bags from? We were nowhere near a station

:05:41. > :05:43.or a van, somewhere you can It was only when he recently

:05:44. > :05:50.searched Ridgewell's name on the Internet that he found out

:05:51. > :05:56.that the officer himself had been jailed shortly

:05:57. > :05:59.after for mailbag theft. Now he is appealing for his

:06:00. > :06:02.conviction to be quashed and is, for the first time in 40 years,

:06:03. > :06:05.speaking about his ordeal. I told them two days ago,

:06:06. > :06:10.for the first time. And they were upset

:06:11. > :06:12.that I never told them. They said, whatever made you think

:06:13. > :06:16.we wouldn't believe you. But I just have this feeling,

:06:17. > :06:18.like this interview, are you sitting there thinking,

:06:19. > :06:21.yeah, there's more to this. That's it for now from me,

:06:22. > :06:39.but let's find out what the weekend Not doing too badly, we got to 22

:06:40. > :06:43.degrees today and we have more of the same coming up tomorrow. But

:06:44. > :06:49.before we get there tonight, some storms across south-east England,

:06:50. > :06:52.running into Hertfordshire at the moment, heading south-east, so we

:06:53. > :06:55.might get the odd crack of thunder and lightning overnight in

:06:56. > :06:59.Hertfordshire and Essex overnight before clear skies follow.

:07:00. > :07:05.Temperatures down at 11 or 12 in the towns and cities and cooler in the

:07:06. > :07:08.countryside. Cooler in the air on Saturday lunchtime, but that

:07:09. > :07:11.September sunshine were quickly warm things up. A bit of cloud bubbling

:07:12. > :07:16.up in the afternoon. The vast majority of us will have a dry day.

:07:17. > :07:20.Tiny chance of a shower with temperatures of 22. Not a bad day.

:07:21. > :07:24.Decent start to the weekend. Sunday, slight differences with the weather.

:07:25. > :07:28.Weather front is coming our way. It'll be a dry and bright start with

:07:29. > :07:32.some sunshine but the cloud will thicken up and we will see some

:07:33. > :07:34.sunshine in the afternoon arriving in London through the evening.

:07:35. > :07:42.sunshine in the afternoon arriving in London through the evening.

:07:43. > :07:48.For many of us the first day of September has been financed right.

:07:49. > :07:53.We have had some heavy showers and thunderstorms across parts of

:07:54. > :07:58.eastern England. Further west it's been a quieter picture. Here's the

:07:59. > :07:59.scene as the sunset in Devon, clear skies there and with clear skies

:08:00. > :08:03.across many parts of the country it skies there and with clear skies

:08:04. > :08:09.will be quite a fresh start to the weekend. Saturday bringing us lots

:08:10. > :08:13.of sunshine, turning a bit more soggy on Sunday. A few heavy showers

:08:14. > :08:18.for the likes of Cambridge are down to Kent. Most of them easing away

:08:19. > :08:23.overnight. We have clear skies and light wind. Likely to be some mist

:08:24. > :08:26.and fog patches first thing. Temperatures just about scraping

:08:27. > :08:30.double figures for the towns and cities, but in more rural spots it's

:08:31. > :08:35.more single figures widely, and they could even be a touch of ground

:08:36. > :08:37.frost across some parts in the north, some Kodjia areas seeing a

:08:38. > :08:38.cold start to the
