:00:15. > :00:22.A man who served almost three years in prison for a rape

:00:23. > :00:26.that never happened has given his first

:00:27. > :00:30.Mahad Kassim was one of 15 men who were falsely accused

:00:31. > :00:32.by a 25-year-old of raping or assaulting her.

:00:33. > :00:34.She's now serving a prison sentence for perjury.

:00:35. > :00:37.He told the BBC she was evil and a monster who has damaged

:00:38. > :00:39.the chances of justice for women who really have been raped.

:00:40. > :00:47.This exclusive report is from Daniel Sandford.

:00:48. > :00:55.Gemma Peel, jailed for ten years last month for falsely accusing 15

:00:56. > :01:01.men by the raping her or sexually assaulting her over a period of just

:01:02. > :01:05.three years. The court heard she did it to make her partner jealous and

:01:06. > :01:10.for the ?14,000 compensation that she received. But it had a

:01:11. > :01:18.devastating effect on the men she accused. One of them asked us not to

:01:19. > :01:22.show his face. He has now given his first television interview. He spent

:01:23. > :01:31.almost three years in prison convicted of rain, before being

:01:32. > :01:39.completely cleared. I am angry. I am very angry. This alleyway was where

:01:40. > :01:45.Gemma Peel had accused him of raping her but in fact she had asked him to

:01:46. > :01:57.have sex. What do you think of her? Evil. I mean, she can't be a normal

:01:58. > :02:05.person. If you are going around trying to destroy an innocent

:02:06. > :02:08.person, that person is not normal. The day he was sentenced to seven

:02:09. > :02:16.years in prison after being wrongly found guilty by a jury is etched on

:02:17. > :02:22.his memory. I felt let down by the justice system. Not being believed.

:02:23. > :02:26.The way I was treated by police. He wonders whether women who really

:02:27. > :02:34.have been raped will be less likely to be believed in future. Let's take

:02:35. > :02:41.for instance, a real human being is going through the same situation.

:02:42. > :02:50.Who will believe them now? She is making it hard for the other

:02:51. > :02:55.females, women out there. It is a peer supported by the judge at her

:02:56. > :03:00.trial saying the files allegations of rain are likely to have the

:03:01. > :03:07.perverse impact of increasing the likely could -- likelihood of guilty

:03:08. > :03:14.men going free. People like her are rare. There are 160 times more

:03:15. > :03:18.prosecutions for rate than for false allegations of rain.

:03:19. > :03:21.Next: A poll for the BBC suggests a third of us feel less

:03:22. > :03:23.safe in public places - compared to 12 months ago.

:03:24. > :03:27.However, London has seen three terrorist attacks already this year.

:03:28. > :03:30.It also found that the majority of us believe further attacks

:03:31. > :03:32.are likely, but many say they're carrying on as normal.

:03:33. > :03:34.Our Home Affairs Correspondent Nick Beake has been

:03:35. > :03:40.The terror attacks this year in Westminster, London Bridge and

:03:41. > :03:52.But what wider impact have the attacks had?

:03:53. > :04:00.33% of Londoners said they feel less safe.

:04:01. > :04:04.Everyone will have their own perspective, but

:04:05. > :04:07.here are some views on the streets we found today.

:04:08. > :04:09.Personally, I am not that scared or worried.

:04:10. > :04:12.But at the same time, I'm just more aware.

:04:13. > :04:14.I commute every morning so still using

:04:15. > :04:17.the train and public transport and the bosses and the Tube with no

:04:18. > :04:24.I am wary, but I think I have always been.

:04:25. > :04:28.I do feel that the atmosphere now, a lot

:04:29. > :04:31.of people are nervy and that makes you more nervous, but I still want

:04:32. > :04:34.to go out and have a good time personally.

:04:35. > :04:59.Experts say all of this is a big headache for the Government. The

:05:00. > :05:06.attacks earlier this year caused the biggest loss of life since the 77

:05:07. > :05:12.bombings in 2005. What we think that the likelihood of further terror

:05:13. > :05:16.attacks on British cities? Our poll found 88% of Londoners thought that

:05:17. > :05:20.the attacks are likely although very few people actually believe one of

:05:21. > :05:26.their relatives will be evicted for the bid is clear the authorities

:05:27. > :05:33.face a huge task of keeping us safe. We may have seen a surge in attacks

:05:34. > :05:36.this year. I have total confidence in the British intelligence agency

:05:37. > :05:43.and police in thwarting and disrupting attacks in the future.

:05:44. > :05:50.Quiet confidence from a former Scotland Yard commander. This poll

:05:51. > :05:54.suggests Londoners to feel less safe in light of the London attacks and

:05:55. > :05:58.left-sided go to big events. Majority of us have not changed our

:05:59. > :05:59.travel routine. Although we are mindful of the threat we are

:06:00. > :06:03.carrying on as before. And you can see more

:06:04. > :06:06.on Inside Out London's terror special which is available

:06:07. > :06:08.on the BBC iPlayer. For the time in the UK McDonald's

:06:09. > :06:11.workers have walked out on strike. Staff from a branch in south east

:06:12. > :06:14.London protested outside the Palace of Westminster over pay

:06:15. > :06:17.and zero hours contracts. The company said the people involved

:06:18. > :06:34.represent one hundredth of one The first worker walking out on the

:06:35. > :06:39.morning of the first ever strike by McDonald's staff in the UK. Staff at

:06:40. > :06:44.this restaurant and one in Cambridge are striking for more pay and better

:06:45. > :06:50.conditions. They also took part in a rally at Westminster. Many staff say

:06:51. > :06:55.wages are too low and impossible to live on. Some of the 16-year-old

:06:56. > :07:00.workers are on ?5 something an hour. I am on ?7 something and our

:07:01. > :07:06.especially in London. We need a higher living wage. We need at least

:07:07. > :07:11.?10 an hour to live on. After bills and rent we have nothing left at the

:07:12. > :07:15.end of the month. We have people who are homeless and cannot afford to

:07:16. > :07:21.eat properly because they are not earning enough. I can never move out

:07:22. > :07:26.of my parents house or afford Uni. I can barely live off my wages. Jeremy

:07:27. > :07:32.Corbyn to beat support and the Shadow Chancellor was there. I am

:07:33. > :07:37.supporting the McDonald's strikers. A few years ago we launched a fast

:07:38. > :07:43.food campaign and ending zero hours contracts. Making sure that the

:07:44. > :07:48.company recognises a trade union. Unions are not recognised by

:07:49. > :07:51.McDonald's. If they value their people as much as they say they did

:07:52. > :07:56.they would not have a strike going on today. They would not have these

:07:57. > :08:01.people making a brave and historic decision to walk out on strike.

:08:02. > :08:08.McDonald's say strikers represented a tiny amount of its workforce. Out

:08:09. > :08:13.of its 1270 restaurants strike action was only taken at two. Even

:08:14. > :08:16.so these fast food workers have suddenly made their voices heard.

:08:17. > :08:21.So what have McDonald's, a big employer, had to say about this?

:08:22. > :08:27.McDonald's employs about 85,000 people in the UK. It told us that in

:08:28. > :08:32.April it announced that workers would be offered a choice of

:08:33. > :08:38.flexible or fixed contracts. 86% chose to stay on the flexible

:08:39. > :08:43.contracts. It also says there have been three pay rises since April 20

:08:44. > :08:49.16. It increased the average hourly rate by 15%. It also says that only

:08:50. > :08:56.14 workers took part today in the action was related to internal

:08:57. > :09:04.grievance procedures and not pay. So, as we have said, McDonald's, a

:09:05. > :09:09.big employer, a major brand, doing over this has damaged their

:09:10. > :09:11.reputation in anyway? McDonald's has put a lot into its advertising to

:09:12. > :09:15.attract staff lately. Some glossy adverts that our viewers might have

:09:16. > :09:19.seen. The website is full of testimonials say what a great pace

:09:20. > :09:23.it is to work. Although this may have only affected two restaurants,

:09:24. > :09:25.probably its image as a good employer will have taken the biggest

:09:26. > :09:28.blow. Thank you for now. And it's over to Wendy now

:09:29. > :09:43.for a look at this week's weather. Something a little fresher than we

:09:44. > :09:47.got today. 23 degrees. We might just get there tomorrow. It is a warm and

:09:48. > :09:52.humid start the week. Then it will become fresher midweek and turns

:09:53. > :09:56.later on rather more autumnal. A low pressure system be felt on Thursday

:09:57. > :10:00.night onwards into the end of the week for that you can see the wiggly

:10:01. > :10:07.lines and how many of them that are. It'll be quite woozy towards the end

:10:08. > :10:13.the week and into the weekend. -- quite breezy. One or two showers

:10:14. > :10:16.trailing away north of London. Elsewhere there would be a bit of

:10:17. > :10:23.cloud around and it will feel rather warm for the time of year. It will

:10:24. > :10:27.be warm when we commute off to work in the morning as well. Through the

:10:28. > :10:35.day we will seek a fair amount of cloud and bits and pieces of rain.

:10:36. > :10:39.Temperatures at least 20, 21 in the best of the sunny spells. Perhaps a

:10:40. > :10:44.tiny bit higher than that. It will feel fresher towards the end of the

:10:45. > :10:48.day. Certainly so on Wednesday. A bit of a breeze blowing but there

:10:49. > :10:53.will be decent spells of sunshine. Dry on Thursday as well. Overnight

:10:54. > :10:57.will start to see some blustery showers showing up. Into the weekend

:10:58. > :11:00.it will be a mixture of sunshine, blustery showers. Ill be windy and a

:11:01. > :11:16.bit on the = as well. Good evening. We are in the heart of

:11:17. > :11:20.the hurricane season in the US. Following hot off the heels of

:11:21. > :11:21.Harvey is another significant
