:00:39. > :00:41.This was City Airport this morning as thick fog disrupted many flights.
:00:42. > :00:46.At the terminal, delays and cancellations, as passengers
:00:47. > :00:49.like John Pye were bussed to other airports to get flights.
:00:50. > :00:52.I'm flying to Luxembourg today, my flight was at 8am.
:00:53. > :00:55.I'm being told we are being transported to Stansted by bus
:00:56. > :00:59.I suppose everybody is in the same boat with this fog outside.
:01:00. > :01:04.I'm a bit aggravated, but I suppose everybody is.
:01:05. > :01:08.City airport, like many others, said it had to cancel flights
:01:09. > :01:14.as air-traffic controllers need to leave more space between planes.
:01:15. > :01:17.Behind me is the runway here at City Airport.
:01:18. > :01:20.You might just be able to make out a few of the runway
:01:21. > :01:25.It's now just after 11am and the fog here is still bad.
:01:26. > :01:27.Thames Clippers couldn't run at all first thing.
:01:28. > :01:31.This was the view from the DLR in east London.
:01:32. > :01:38.This was Heathrow, which also suffered thick fog.
:01:39. > :01:41.It had to cancel 100 flights, about 8% in total.
:01:42. > :01:45.City Airport had to cancel 65, about 25%.
:01:46. > :01:48.At Gatwick, flights were also disrupted.
:01:49. > :01:53.One BBC reporter was stuck on a plane for over two hours.
:01:54. > :01:56.As passengers changed their minds about going to Belfast.
:01:57. > :02:00.Well this flight is now two and a half hours late,
:02:01. > :02:03.and still nowhere near taking off as far as I can tell.
:02:04. > :02:07.The problem started with the fog which delayed the flight by two
:02:08. > :02:10.hours but then as passengers decided they wanted to get off,
:02:11. > :02:12.presumably because it wasn't worth making the journey,
:02:13. > :02:15.Gatwick seems to have found they don't have the staff to escort
:02:16. > :02:19.So there are further delays, which means more passengers seem
:02:20. > :02:21.to want to get off the plane, which means there
:02:22. > :02:25.And at the moment no sign of departing whatsoever.
:02:26. > :02:29.Passengers are being advised to check before travelling.
:02:30. > :02:31.The airports say the weather is now improving.
:02:32. > :02:36.But more fog is forecast for tomorrow morning.
:02:37. > :02:38.Now how would you feel about The Houses
:02:39. > :02:42.Well according to a new poll, 1 in 4 of people asked thought
:02:43. > :02:44.the cost of restoring the building was so high,
:02:45. > :02:48.it would be better off being sold or bulldozed!
:02:49. > :02:51.Well Sonja Jessup is there with more on how people feel
:02:52. > :02:54.Well, even on a foggy day, the Houses of Parliament,
:02:55. > :02:56.this Grade One listed historic building, still looks fairly
:02:57. > :03:00.That is, of course, if you ignore the rather unsightly
:03:01. > :03:07.And the problem of course is, is that the Palace of Westminster
:03:08. > :03:16.They've got problems with asbestos, ageing electrics, fragile stonework,
:03:17. > :03:23.and of course this all comes with a huge bill, up to ?4 billion,
:03:24. > :03:27.And it could take up to eight years to complete.
:03:28. > :03:29.Now, in research carried out by YouGov and published
:03:30. > :03:32.in The Times newspaper today, they discovered that one in four
:03:33. > :03:36.people questioned thought that was all too expensive.
:03:37. > :03:38.They thought the whole thing should either be sold off
:03:39. > :03:42.So, what do Londoners down here and tourists,
:03:43. > :03:45.It's an institution, it's an icon of Britain.
:03:46. > :03:50.I think it's absolutely money well spent.
:03:51. > :03:54.You don't get a lot of these historical buildings.
:03:55. > :03:58.I just don't think they could build anything for that money that
:03:59. > :04:02.So what are the options for this refurbishment?
:04:03. > :04:10.Last year a committee of MPs and peers recommended that both
:04:11. > :04:13.Houses of Parliament should be vacated completely for six years
:04:14. > :04:18.A makeshift Commons chamber could be built in the courtyard of Richmond
:04:19. > :04:20.house and peers would sit in the QE2 conference centre.
:04:21. > :04:26.Another plan would see the Houses of Parliament partly vacated,
:04:27. > :04:29.MPs moving into the Lords for example while repairs are
:04:30. > :04:32.That is thought to be a lot more expensive.
:04:33. > :04:36.A Commons vote on whether to go ahead with a full move out,
:04:37. > :04:40.or just for Parliament to partly move out, is expected soon.
:04:41. > :04:52.Detectives are investigating a number of alleged hate crime
:04:53. > :04:53.incidents targeting the Jewish community
:04:54. > :04:57.In one case a brick covered in swastikas was thrown
:04:58. > :04:59.through the window of a home on Hillside Gardens in Edgware.
:05:00. > :05:02.Police are also examining three other incidents in the area.
:05:03. > :05:04.At this stage it's not known whether they're all linked.
:05:05. > :05:08.Police are stepping up their appeal for help in connection to a sex
:05:09. > :05:12.They're hoping releasing this image of a man they would like to speak
:05:13. > :05:16.It happened when the schoolgirl was out jogging on Carshalton High
:05:17. > :05:21.Now, it's a game where players on opposing sides take turns
:05:22. > :05:24.at trying to hurl a ball down a court and score a goal
:05:25. > :05:28.It's designed to be played by blind and visually impaired athletes.
:05:29. > :05:31.Goalball is a Paralympic sport which many might have seen
:05:32. > :05:33.for the first time during the London Games.
:05:34. > :05:37.But at the moment, the capital only has one club that plays the sport.
:05:38. > :05:40.But as Emma Jones reports, there are now plans to change that.
:05:41. > :05:44.This is the London Elephants Goalball Club.
:05:45. > :05:50.It's currently the only club of its kind in London.
:05:51. > :05:53.But with more funds now being invested by Sport England,
:05:54. > :05:58.The numbers that have turned up here are so exciting,
:05:59. > :06:00.and people are travelling quite a long way to come
:06:01. > :06:05.So our plan is over the next hopefully couple of years is to have
:06:06. > :06:07.five clubs in Greater London, you know, simply south, north,
:06:08. > :06:11.Many people got their first taste of the sport at the London Paralympics,
:06:12. > :06:16.and the belief is those games have left a lasting legacy.
:06:17. > :06:20.The main thing just being awareness and also just the number
:06:21. > :06:22.of opportunities opened up, in terms of funding
:06:23. > :06:25.2012 kind of activated a lot of that money,
:06:26. > :06:26.and goalball has definitely benefitted from that.
:06:27. > :06:30.Graham Drew's new guide dog has given him more
:06:31. > :06:34.independence and confidence, and he says when he started
:06:35. > :06:36.to lose his sight, goalball offered him that too.
:06:37. > :06:39.It's a massive problem with visually impaired people,
:06:40. > :06:42.that there's a huge reduction in the amount of
:06:43. > :06:45.For example, I used to be a pretty avid runner,
:06:46. > :06:48.and then the day I ran straight into somebody and knocked them off
:06:49. > :06:51.the path, it beame something I wasn't really able to do any more.
:06:52. > :06:55.When I found this, this was fantastic.
:06:56. > :06:58.Now the club is looking for new members, and Goalball UK
:06:59. > :07:01.is confident there'll be plenty of interest in new
:07:02. > :07:06.It's one of best places to live, in terms of accessiblity for people
:07:07. > :07:09.So I'm sure people are crying out for it.
:07:10. > :07:13.So once we manage to get some more teams going,
:07:14. > :07:17.If everything goes to plan, the London Elephants will have
:07:18. > :07:22.London rivals in just a few years' time.
:07:23. > :07:32.Now as I said it was a very foggy start to the day.
:07:33. > :07:35.Let's take a look at the rest of today's weather,
:07:36. > :07:50.It was another very cold start the week. Temperatures at 8am, Gravesend
:07:51. > :07:54.at -5, most places at minus two. Widespread frost and a lot of talk.
:07:55. > :07:58.With those temperatures where they were, freezing fog. Really tricky
:07:59. > :08:05.conditions throughout the morning. Through the afternoon, one or two
:08:06. > :08:10.fog patches and because of those temperatures will struggle. It will
:08:11. > :08:16.feel cold even if the fog lifts. Temperatures barely moving. You make
:08:17. > :08:22.it a little bit of clearance on fog, it will lift but mostly into a great
:08:23. > :08:25.picture. Maximum temperatures three or four Celsius in London. Chilly
:08:26. > :08:29.overnight, a lot of clout with breaks in it but you will see all
:08:30. > :08:35.this white signifies the mist and fog reforming fairly quickly. Dense
:08:36. > :08:39.mist and fog and with the potential to freeze with the temperatures
:08:40. > :08:44.dropping below zero. Another cold and frosty start tomorrow and foggy.
:08:45. > :08:49.And the fog is likely to freeze throughout tomorrow morning. Very
:08:50. > :08:52.slow to clear. You may get bright spells in the afternoon the further
:08:53. > :08:56.east you are but many places hanging onto fog for much of the day.
:08:57. > :09:02.Maximum temperatures getting up to five Celsius. Through the rest of
:09:03. > :09:05.the week, cloud and foggy conditions around for Wednesday morning and
:09:06. > :09:08.overnight Wednesday and Thursday. Things clearing a little through
