:00:11. > :00:25.Damon Smith, who's 20 and has Asperger's syndrome,

:00:26. > :00:28.was caught on CCTV leaving a bag filled with explosives and ball

:00:29. > :00:33.Ayshea Buksh has been following this story for us

:00:34. > :00:48.Remind us about what happened? Damon Smith left a rucksack on the Jubilee

:00:49. > :00:53.line with a bomb inside, made from ball barings and a cheap alarm

:00:54. > :00:58.clock. He got off at London Bridge. The bomb was timed to go off,

:00:59. > :01:03.minutes later but did not. The train carried on to Greenwich where the

:01:04. > :01:11.alarm was raised. The police arrested him at his home with GPs

:01:12. > :01:13.and weapons and other bombs with instructions from an extremist

:01:14. > :01:19.Islamist website. On questioning, this is what he said. I realised on

:01:20. > :01:24.the tube it was going to Stratford. I thought it would be a good time to

:01:25. > :01:30.leave my bag for a prank. What was said in court? Damon Smith

:01:31. > :01:34.was found guilty of possession with a substance with an explosive intent

:01:35. > :01:38.and although he had an interest in Islam he was not motivated by

:01:39. > :01:43.terrorism. The judge said: I am driven to treat you as a dangerous

:01:44. > :01:47.offender and the seriousness of what you did cannot be overstated. He

:01:48. > :01:52.spoke of the recent terrorist attack in Manchester and the background of

:01:53. > :01:58.fear in which we all live. We heard from his difence how he has an

:01:59. > :02:03.autistic spectrum disorder and the barrister said he was a vulnerable

:02:04. > :02:09.man. Earlier, the BBC spoke to Damon Smith's mother about this. Could you

:02:10. > :02:12.try to be a bit more lenient because of his Asperger's. He has never been

:02:13. > :02:17.in trouble with the police before or anything like that. He's got a good

:02:18. > :02:21.character. He is just a vulnerable little boy who needs a bit of help,

:02:22. > :02:25.not prison. Well, Damon Smith is to serve 15

:02:26. > :02:32.years at a young offender's institution with an extended period

:02:33. > :02:35.of five years on licence. The head of the Met's counter-terrorism team

:02:36. > :02:38.said that while there is no connection with Greenwich and

:02:39. > :02:39.Manchester, it brings into reality how devastating this could have

:02:40. > :02:41.been. Thank you.

:02:42. > :02:46.The Met Police is warning football fans they can expect to see extra

:02:47. > :02:48.armed officers on patrol at this weekend's FA Cup Final -

:02:49. > :02:50.and at other events around the capital this

:02:51. > :02:54.It comes after the terror threat level was raised to critical-

:02:55. > :02:57.It comes after the terror threat level was raised to critical -

:02:58. > :02:59.Our reporter Frankie McCamley has more.

:03:00. > :03:01.With thousands of people heading to the capital this

:03:02. > :03:04.bank holiday weekend, visiting key tourist attractions

:03:05. > :03:07.like here in Westminster and heading to some of the biggest sporting

:03:08. > :03:12.events of the year, security will still remain tight.

:03:13. > :03:15.Which means extra police officers on the streets who will be

:03:16. > :03:20.Now the terror threat level does still remain critical,

:03:21. > :03:25.I've been speaking to one Met police officer who's been telling me

:03:26. > :03:29.At the events that are taking place at the weekend,

:03:30. > :03:32.I think people should be prepared to see increased searching of bags,

:03:33. > :03:35.more security, so arrive earlier, in plenty of time.

:03:36. > :03:39.Perhaps not as late as you would do normally.

:03:40. > :03:41.From a policing perspective you will see more officers out

:03:42. > :03:44.and about across the capital, not at events but at transport hubs

:03:45. > :03:48.and a range of the crowded and iconic places that we've got

:03:49. > :03:53.It's my job and everyone that works in the police to keep London

:03:54. > :04:05.We want people to come and enjoy the range of events

:04:06. > :04:07.that are taking place across the capital this weekend.

:04:08. > :04:12.The Met Police will do all it can to ensure that people are safe.

:04:13. > :04:14.Now, despite that message from the Metropolitan Police,

:04:15. > :04:17.Chelsea Football Club has decided to cancel its victory parade this

:04:18. > :04:19.Sunday, saying it doesn't want to divert police resources.

:04:20. > :04:22.there will be heightened security, it says it does not

:04:23. > :04:27.It's carrying out what it calls a "proportionate response" and it's

:04:28. > :04:29.important not to forget that we have had this critical terror level

:04:30. > :04:33.before back in 2006 and 2007 and during that time an attack

:04:34. > :04:48.People who have a disfigurement, to their face or body,

:04:49. > :04:51.have been telling BBC London about the abuse they suffer -

:04:52. > :04:57.The charity Changing Faces says there's been a rise in cases

:04:58. > :04:59.Leaving them frightened and humiliated.

:05:00. > :05:07.Jim Wheble has been talking to one woman about her experience.

:05:08. > :05:13.Because I had a rare genetic condition, there are times where I

:05:14. > :05:18.would be walking down the street like this, people may stare, a bit

:05:19. > :05:24.of a glance. That is not so bad. I can deal with that.

:05:25. > :05:31.But for Victoria, unfortunately, all too often it does not end there,

:05:32. > :05:35.bearing the brunt of vile attitudes. I think I'm lucky living in Central

:05:36. > :05:40.London. Living in such an amazing City it means that on the whole

:05:41. > :05:44.people value and celebrate divert and difference but then there are

:05:45. > :05:51.times when people will be really nasty to me and shout abuse at me in

:05:52. > :05:55.the street. I have had men in cars who shout abuse at me through car

:05:56. > :06:03.windows. I have walked past people outside of pubs where they have gone

:06:04. > :06:07."that woman makes me want to vomit." Even in the last few days you have

:06:08. > :06:12.had abuse online? That's right. A message on Facebook. This image here

:06:13. > :06:20.with a character of a moon for a face and a long pointed chin, as you

:06:21. > :06:23.can see... Some unpleasant words. Unpleasant words not repeatable on

:06:24. > :06:28.television. For the report, the charity,

:06:29. > :06:34.Changing Faces spoke to 800 people with facial disfigurement. What

:06:35. > :06:47.strikes you is the intensity and the prejudice that people face.

:06:48. > :06:52.media post mocking disfigurement and yet none have ever had

:06:53. > :07:01.I have a right to live free from abuse. So I made a conscious

:07:02. > :07:05.decision to say that is what I was going to do to live me life and be

:07:06. > :07:15.happy and ignore and rise above the abuse.

:07:16. > :07:18.The Bank Holiday getaway got off to a terrible start for some

:07:19. > :07:19.holidaymakers at Gatwick airport this morning-

:07:20. > :07:22.after some were told they'd have to fly without their luggage.

:07:23. > :07:26.He says he boarded a plane only to be told his bag

:07:27. > :07:29.Gatwick Airport says the problem with the automated

:07:30. > :07:38.system has been solved and has apologised for disruption.

:07:39. > :07:43.It's been another beautiful day in London but it's all about the bank

:07:44. > :07:49.holiday weekend. Who would want to be anywhere else?

:07:50. > :07:55.This is Kew Gardens, earlier on. To be aware if you are out in the

:07:56. > :08:01.sun today, the UV levels are high, so you may well want sun cream on.

:08:02. > :08:06.For the weekend, we think it will stay warm. The heat will hold on.

:08:07. > :08:11.Thundery showers at times but lots of sunshine too. A details in a

:08:12. > :08:14.moment. There is lots of sunshine for the afternoon. There is a

:08:15. > :08:19.south-easterly wind, so feeling cooler in the east. Temperatures to

:08:20. > :08:23.28 Celsius or 29 Celsius later on today.

:08:24. > :08:28.Feeling very warm. A lovely evening to come. Overnight, possibly

:08:29. > :08:33.uncomfortable for sleeping. It will feel muggy at times. Lows of 16 or

:08:34. > :08:37.17 Celsius. You may see the showers, they will be with us through the

:08:38. > :08:41.late morning probably tomorrow. One or two of them could be heavy and

:08:42. > :08:46.thundery, you may miss them all together. Some places will. Lots of

:08:47. > :08:53.sunshine tomorrow afternoon. Feeling nice and warm. Temperatures in the

:08:54. > :08:56.mid-to the high 20s, widely. So another warm day again tomorrow.

:08:57. > :09:01.Lots more sunshine to come. But it would not be a bank holiday weekend

:09:02. > :09:09.without a weather warning. This is what we have for Sunday until Monday

:09:10. > :09:17.from mid-day to mid-day. Starting dry and bright on Sunday,

:09:18. > :09:19.feeling fresh. Heavy downpours on Saturday and Sunday but clearing on

:09:20. > :09:26.Monday. It started off so well! That's all

:09:27. > :09:31.from us. Join us at 6.30 when Riese lot Crieff is here with our evening

:09:32. > :10:02.programme. Hope you make the most of that sunshine today. Goodbye.

:10:03. > :10:08.In Japan, art and life are intrinsically connected.

:10:09. > :10:11.Understanding the principles behind the art

:10:12. > :10:14.unlocks the mysteries of Japanese culture.
