:00:13. > :00:14.Good afternoon and welcome to BBC London News.

:00:15. > :00:20.A new report's found bus drivers in the capital are struggling

:00:21. > :00:22.with stress and exhaustion - and there are fears it's

:00:23. > :00:25.contributing to a rise in the number of crashes on the roads.

:00:26. > :00:27.Over the last two years, 25 people were killed

:00:28. > :00:44.You may fine the firstel imagines make uncomfortable viewing. A bus

:00:45. > :00:49.severely injures a pedestrian. In Ladbroke Grove a bus mounts a

:00:50. > :00:55.pavement again people are hurt. And today reports said the capital o's

:00:56. > :01:00.buses could be made safer. Ten years ago Sarah's mother died after being

:01:01. > :01:05.hit by a bus. Her daughter lost her leg. She wants operator to reduce

:01:06. > :01:09.the stress on drivers. We had a terrible incident in our family, and

:01:10. > :01:15.it was caused by a bus driver having road rage, which is unforgivable and

:01:16. > :01:21.it must never happen again. But, since that happened, since I have

:01:22. > :01:25.been working on my campaign to help bus drivers, I have learned quite a

:01:26. > :01:30.lot about the stresses and strains they are under, and I think we need

:01:31. > :01:34.to really think about them and what they physically do, which is more

:01:35. > :01:38.than driving a bus. 25 people have been killed on or by buses in the

:01:39. > :01:44.last two years with 12,000 people injured. Today, a report found an

:01:45. > :01:49.emphasis on punctuality over safety with drivers facing long hours that

:01:50. > :01:56.compromises their ability. One thing is making sure that the contracts

:01:57. > :01:58.centre by safety but we need to make sure Transport for London's own

:01:59. > :02:03.management have in their bonus regime safety at the heart of it. We

:02:04. > :02:07.need to make sure the life of drivers is better and making sure

:02:08. > :02:10.they can have meal break, that they don't drive for 16 hours at a time.

:02:11. > :02:15.If they are tired they may make mistakes. Compared to the Croydon

:02:16. > :02:19.train crash the report found that incident investigation is not as

:02:20. > :02:26.thorough. Joanne Harris has been a bus driver for ten years. Most

:02:27. > :02:31.drivers are doing 12 hour days, and then getting forced overtime, on top

:02:32. > :02:37.of that. So 13-and-a-half hours of all out stress with those people

:02:38. > :02:44.onboard is not a good combination for road safety. TFL says it is

:02:45. > :02:48.taking action to improve safety. It is aiming for no deaths by 2030.

:02:49. > :02:53.Campaigners are calling for quirk action.

:02:54. > :02:55.The Finsbury Park mosque, where worshippers were targeted

:02:56. > :02:58.in a terror attack last month, says it's seen a rise in hate crime

:02:59. > :03:02.One man died, and nine others were taken to hospital,

:03:03. > :03:04.after a van was driven into a group leaving evening prayers.

:03:05. > :03:06.The Mosque's chairman believes the incident has fuelled

:03:07. > :03:22.Here at Finsbury Park Mosque the community says it is taking comfort

:03:23. > :03:26.in these messages of support, which have arrived from local

:03:27. > :03:30.school-children here are a book full of their hand print, messages

:03:31. > :03:32.showing solidarity, but the Chairman of the mosque says this isn't the

:03:33. > :03:37.only communication they have received here, in the months since

:03:38. > :03:41.the attack. They have seen more and more threatening messages arrive.

:03:42. > :03:48.When people send us a letter saying that this is the beginning of what's

:03:49. > :03:55.happening, you will have a river of blood for example, and we will make

:03:56. > :03:59.sure that you will get hurt and your community get hurt, expect a bomb

:04:00. > :04:02.and other thing in in your centres and these sort of things which is

:04:03. > :04:06.very nasty and worrying and we immediate to make sure our all are

:04:07. > :04:09.protected and safe, this is what we are trying to do. Do you feel they

:04:10. > :04:14.haven't been doing enough up to this point? I am not saying they haven't

:04:15. > :04:18.done enough, they can do more, we can do more as well, we all need to

:04:19. > :04:24.work together, this is a big responsibility on us, and I am sure

:04:25. > :04:29.the police are trying their best to catch these perpetrator, it is not

:04:30. > :04:32.easy. We are not asking to catch every perpetrator who send alert,

:04:33. > :04:36.something like that, we know it is impossible. We expect that something

:04:37. > :04:38.to be done about some of these letters and to get to the bottom of

:04:39. > :04:45.letters and to get to the bottom of it and find out who is behind it.

:04:46. > :04:47.Mohammed Kozbar ending that report speaking to Katharine Carpenter.

:04:48. > :04:50.And we will be hearing from the Met Police about how

:04:51. > :04:54.they are tackling hate crime in London on our 6:30pm programme.

:04:55. > :04:57.The Home Secretary, Amber Rudd, says people who carry out acid

:04:58. > :05:00.attacks could be jailed for life, as part of a government review.

:05:01. > :05:02.Last week, there were five acid attacks in just one

:05:03. > :05:04.night across Islington, Stoke Newington and Hackney.

:05:05. > :05:06.This afternoon, MPs will debate restricting the sales of corrosive

:05:07. > :05:13.acids, and whether a licence should be required to buy them.

:05:14. > :05:16.People living near the Grenfell Tower in Kensington are to receive

:05:17. > :05:18.stability of the fire damaged building.

:05:19. > :05:20.Michael Lockwood - the chief executive

:05:21. > :05:23.of Harrow Council and a member of the Grenfell Task Force - said

:05:24. > :05:26.letters would be sent out today- after a range of experts had

:05:27. > :05:30.He said scaffolding may go up around the tower in the future, but only

:05:31. > :05:39.Now you'll probably remember Levi Roots as the Dragons Den

:05:40. > :05:41.entrepreneur who shot to fame and fortune with his spicy

:05:42. > :05:44.But although he's been busy in the kitchen, he's not

:05:45. > :05:52.He's been telling Alice Bhandhukravi about his latest venture.

:05:53. > :05:58.Obviously I am the sauce guy. ? You're the sauce guy. That's all I'm

:05:59. > :06:03.good for ebbing making the sauce this is where I would normally be,

:06:04. > :06:07.creating the sauces. He is a reggae singer by trade but this is his

:06:08. > :06:12.other passion, here we are in the kitchen of his Caribbean restaurant.

:06:13. > :06:17.It was me doing it in my kitchen in Brixton with my children. That is

:06:18. > :06:23.where it started. I would be there, like, singing songs and... Listening

:06:24. > :06:27.to reggae. And getting involved and making the sauces and at the end of

:06:28. > :06:33.it, here we are ten years later and I am doing the same thing but it is

:06:34. > :06:37.great fun. His man a has been put music in the food so he has put

:06:38. > :06:41.together a compilation of reggae hits as a soundtrack for summer

:06:42. > :06:48.cooking. # Sun is shining

:06:49. > :06:54.# The weather is sweet. # When I hear Sun Is Shining it

:06:55. > :06:59.reminds me of the man who helped me change my life. And he has in turn

:07:00. > :07:04.set about inspiring young people to achieve in business, through his

:07:05. > :07:09.motivational courses. Giving that message if I can do it anyone can do

:07:10. > :07:12.it. I do believe that young people, some time, especially kids that are

:07:13. > :07:16.kind of suffering in their backgrounds like I did, you tend to

:07:17. > :07:20.think that you are not going to make it and things are against you and

:07:21. > :07:24.there is doors closed you can break down, so I go in and I say there is

:07:25. > :07:27.no doors you can't get through, apart from the ones you put in place

:07:28. > :07:29.yourselves. Wise words there.

:07:30. > :07:40.Now let's check on the weather with Georgina.

:07:41. > :07:47.Good afternoon, some of us enjoying some glorious blue sky out there

:07:48. > :07:54.today and this was the scene captured by our weather watcher

:07:55. > :07:58.Anthony. So lots of sunshine round, thank you for that picture and all

:07:59. > :08:02.the picture, as we head through the afternoon it is looks like it is

:08:03. > :08:06.staying dry and sunny. Not much of a breeze. Temperatures getting up to

:08:07. > :08:10.26 or 27. As we head through this evening we will see more cloud

:08:11. > :08:14.round. It has been feeling fresher than over the weekend. The same goes

:08:15. > :08:17.for tomorrow, but it may be a bit sticky overnight. Temperatures

:08:18. > :08:22.getting down 15 or 16 degrees Celsius. And then for tomorrow,

:08:23. > :08:25.well, we will probably have pockets of cloud, not quite the wall-to-wall

:08:26. > :08:32.sunshine some of us are having today. But still a fine bright day

:08:33. > :08:36.with sunny spells. An easterly breeze and temperatures getting up

:08:37. > :08:38.to the high 20, mainly for north-west London, so that is where

:08:39. > :08:43.we will see the highest temperatures. Elsewhere getting to

:08:44. > :08:46.the mid 20s. In the eve thing we start to see thupedry showers from

:08:47. > :08:52.our friend on the Continent and the Met off fits has a yellow warning in

:08:53. > :08:58.place, from 5pm until 8pm on Wednesday. Most of us clear

:08:59. > :09:01.overnight but on Wednesday we we start to have our own home-grown

:09:02. > :09:06.showers sparked off by the heat. So a bit of cloud round on Wednesday,

:09:07. > :09:09.temperatures again, up in the high 20s, but becoming fresher again on

:09:10. > :09:13.Well, that's it from us on the lunchtime team -

:09:14. > :09:24.There is more on the website. Whatever you are up to, enjoy your

:09:25. > :09:26.afternoon. Bye.
