:00:12. > :00:18.Welcome to BBC London News. I'm Alice Salfield.

:00:19. > :00:21.The body in charge of running Grenfell Tower before the fire,

:00:22. > :00:24.has been stripped of its power over the local estate.

:00:25. > :00:28.The decision comes as the Prime Minister met victims of the fire,

:00:29. > :00:31.and the local council unveiled some of the new homes it's bought

:00:32. > :00:42.for Grenfell survivors. Here's Karl Mercer.

:00:43. > :00:49.From the chandeliers shop across Kings Road, these early flats chose

:00:50. > :00:52.-- Kensington and Chelsea cancel as bored as new homes for victims of

:00:53. > :00:57.the Grenfell Tower fires. There are 30 homes here, bought for around ?20

:00:58. > :01:03.million. Three families from Grenfell have said they want to live

:01:04. > :01:07.here. Today, the leader of Kensington and Chelsea visited the

:01:08. > :01:10.site. The morning after Grenfell residents had met the Prime Minister

:01:11. > :01:17.to tell her I were unhappy they were with the council response to the

:01:18. > :01:22.fire. I spoke to the Prime Minister this morning. I accept there is a

:01:23. > :01:27.legacy of lack of trust left over from how the council performed after

:01:28. > :01:32.the fire. But look here, look at what we are doing today. Look at the

:01:33. > :01:36.flats, the quality of the offer, the fact so many people have engaged

:01:37. > :01:41.with us. We getting there. I accept it is slow but we're getting here.

:01:42. > :01:45.The Prime Minister revealed she told residents that the body that rend

:01:46. > :01:51.Grenfell Tower for the council would be stripped of its power over the

:01:52. > :01:53.estate. I was able to tell them that the tenant management organisation

:01:54. > :01:58.will no longer have responsibility for the Lancaster West housing

:01:59. > :02:04.estate. People were pleased to hear that. What we were also able to do

:02:05. > :02:09.was to hear from some specific issues that individuals had at that

:02:10. > :02:15.meeting. The council said it will eventually take over all of the

:02:16. > :02:20.stock from the organisation but will do so in stages. So far, only nine

:02:21. > :02:22.of 180 families that need rehousing have accepted permanent new homes.

:02:23. > :02:24.A man from Hertfordshire says his pregnant wife faces

:02:25. > :02:29.They met in the UK while she was studying here.

:02:30. > :02:32.The Home Office refused her visa on the grounds that they could live

:02:33. > :02:36.together in China - something they say is impractical.

:02:37. > :02:45.Sarah Harris has been to meet the couple.

:02:46. > :02:52.Precious moments studying every detail of their final scan. Their

:02:53. > :02:55.first child is due next month. But this married couple, living in their

:02:56. > :02:58.own comfortable home in Saint Alden 's, have been told by the Home

:02:59. > :03:04.Office there is no reason after their baby is born they shouldn't

:03:05. > :03:08.move to China. I just burst into tears. I couldn't even tell her what

:03:09. > :03:11.had happened I was that distressed. I really thought it would go through

:03:12. > :03:22.this time. It is so heartbreaking it has not gone through. I was waiting

:03:23. > :03:27.for my husband to come back. It has destroyed our world, hasn't it? Yes.

:03:28. > :03:33.The couple married in November after falling in love earlier in the year.

:03:34. > :03:40.When they applied to extend Wanwan pots Visa, it was refused. They are

:03:41. > :03:46.rejecting her application on the grounds that they want us to move to

:03:47. > :03:52.China. My wife has been going to classes. She has a good support

:03:53. > :03:56.group. It is heartbreaking. In a statement, the Home Office says the

:03:57. > :04:00.Visa has been refused because it didn't meet immigration rules.

:04:01. > :04:06.However, she can remain in the UK to have her baby. This immigration

:04:07. > :04:10.expert says rules are rules. Before entering into relationships

:04:11. > :04:13.with migrants, you need to know whether they have the correct amount

:04:14. > :04:19.of leave. Especially having children. You are supposed to plan a

:04:20. > :04:23.Visa application. It would have been prudent if they had the Visa sorted

:04:24. > :04:29.first and then decided to make a family. The couple deny any rules

:04:30. > :04:31.have been broken and will keep fighting to stay here in the home

:04:32. > :04:34.they have created further young family.

:04:35. > :04:39.A 10-year-old girl has managed to fight off a sex attacker,

:04:40. > :04:41.after he assaulted her as she walked in woodland.

:04:42. > :04:44.Surrey Police have released this computer generated

:04:45. > :04:49.It happened in Claygate early last Thursday evening.

:04:50. > :04:53.Police say the victim escaped by kicking the man, who then ran off.

:04:54. > :04:55.Police say they're making every effort to identify the man,

:04:56. > :04:57.and have stepped up patrols in the area.

:04:58. > :05:02.The Royal Surrey Hospital in Guildford is going to charge

:05:03. > :05:04.disabled people for parking from next month.

:05:05. > :05:06.It'll cost Blue Badge holders ?4 a visit.

:05:07. > :05:10.The hospital has apologised, but says it's had to "make difficult

:05:11. > :05:12.decisions when budgets are under pressure".

:05:13. > :05:22.Disability campaigners say the charge is unfair.

:05:23. > :05:29.Lots of disabled people are unable to use public transport. They have

:05:30. > :05:35.to use a card to get it. There is no choice. What disabled people have

:05:36. > :05:41.fought for over the last 20, 30 years, are being pared away, and we

:05:42. > :05:43.are moving back to a situation where macro we were the lowest and poorest

:05:44. > :05:45.in society. Designs being considered

:05:46. > :05:49.for the rebuilding of an 18th Century mansion in Surrey

:05:50. > :05:51.which was destroyed by fire Clandon Park House was left

:05:52. > :05:55.as a burning shell nearly Now six teams of architects

:05:56. > :06:02.from across the globe have put forward their plans to restore

:06:03. > :06:06.the site, as Matt Treacy explains. An electrical fire has quickly

:06:07. > :06:12.spread through the grade one A treasured mansion

:06:13. > :06:21.reduced to a shell. Today sitting under 30

:06:22. > :06:23.miles of scaffolding, the inside of the house is ready

:06:24. > :06:26.to be rebuilt. Doing the right thing

:06:27. > :06:27.is incredibly important. And what we do today and how

:06:28. > :06:30.that is viewed in 50, Teams of architects from around

:06:31. > :06:38.the world have reimagined how the inside and surroundings

:06:39. > :06:39.could look. The aim is to open more

:06:40. > :06:42.of the house than ever before. Six have been short listed

:06:43. > :06:45.and all have been asked to bring This is the marble Hall, the most

:06:46. > :06:55.significant room in the house. We would be looking

:06:56. > :06:56.for a like-for-like It was just a wonderful space,

:06:57. > :07:04.twin height, Baroque, and with the magnificent room that

:07:05. > :07:07.would form the entrance to Clandon Refurbishment on this

:07:08. > :07:13.scale do not come cheap. But it is hoped some

:07:14. > :07:18.materials salvaged from A panel of experts and locals will

:07:19. > :07:25.select the winners in the autumn. The winning design will not

:07:26. > :07:28.necessarily be the final design but that team will work

:07:29. > :07:31.with the National Trust to create Looking forward to seeing it

:07:32. > :07:47.restored. A warm start to the day. Time now to find out

:07:48. > :07:55.what the weather's up Good afternoon. A cloudy few hours.

:07:56. > :07:59.The sunshine did tease us first thing. One of a Weather Watchers was

:08:00. > :08:04.out and about and captured this picture. Thank you for all your

:08:05. > :08:08.pictures. We should see more sunshine as we head into the next

:08:09. > :08:13.few hours. A very pleasant afternoon. A light westerly breeze.

:08:14. > :08:20.Temperatures getting up to 25 Celsius. Still feeling moggy. If you

:08:21. > :08:24.are not a fan of humidity, pressure conditions tonight. It will not be

:08:25. > :08:28.as warm as it was last night. Temperatures dipping down to 1213

:08:29. > :08:32.degrees. Looking try with clear spells overnight. Into tomorrow, it

:08:33. > :08:38.will be feeling fresh from the start. And still a lot of sunny

:08:39. > :08:41.spells around. A lot of dry weather on the cards. Varying amounts of

:08:42. > :08:47.cloud. Temperatures quite a lot lower than they have been in recent

:08:48. > :08:52.days. It is a similar day for Friday. A lot of dry weather over

:08:53. > :08:59.the next few days. And always some sunny spells. On Saturday and Sunday

:09:00. > :09:04.we take in some warmer air. That could trigger some thundery showers.

:09:05. > :09:05.However, if you escape those showers, you could get away with a

:09:06. > :09:08.very pleasant bank holiday weekend. But Alice Bhandhukravi will be back

:09:09. > :09:13.with all the latest at 6.30 tonight. For now though, from all of us

:09:14. > :09:16.on the lunchtime team, have a lovely afternoon.
