:00:12. > :00:19.As families prepare to go back to school after the holidays,

:00:20. > :00:22.there are warnings that the capital faces a shortfall of thousands

:00:23. > :00:26.of secondary school places within the next five years.

:00:27. > :00:29.Councils are calling for new powers to force academies

:00:30. > :00:33.to take on more pupils - to make sure the demand is met.

:00:34. > :00:37.Our political editor Tim Donovan has the details.

:00:38. > :00:40.This is the latest warning to emerge about a looming lack

:00:41. > :00:45.According to the Local Government Association, by 2022,

:00:46. > :00:50.London could be facing a shortfall of 34,000 places, and 20 of London's

:00:51. > :00:56.boroughs are reporting that they will face a shortfall.

:00:57. > :00:58.The Local Government Association is saying what needs to happen

:00:59. > :01:01.is the councils should be able to open their own schools

:01:02. > :01:08.and direct academies to expand to meet the need.

:01:09. > :01:12.Often these deals are done to increase the size of schools,

:01:13. > :01:15.but when push comes to shove and the school refuses to do that,

:01:16. > :01:19.with a council maintained school we can force them to ensure all kids

:01:20. > :01:21.have a school place, but with an academy, we can't.

:01:22. > :01:25.That is leading to problems across London and the rest of the country.

:01:26. > :01:27.We are worried that not every child will have a school

:01:28. > :01:33.The Department for Education says these figures are misleading

:01:34. > :01:36.and points out that nearly ?6 billion across the country

:01:37. > :01:40.has been made available for councils until 2020,

:01:41. > :01:44.to cater for the projected increase in need for school places.

:01:45. > :01:48.And it points out that that money has been based on councils'

:01:49. > :02:01.A man has been found guilty of attempting to rob West Ham

:02:02. > :02:07.Police in Aldershot have launched a murder enquiry after a baby girl's

:02:08. > :02:11.body was found in bushes. She was discovered in Manor Park on the 19th

:02:12. > :02:14.of May. Police are trying to identify her mother and anyone else

:02:15. > :02:17.who may be connected to the death. It's believed she died and was left

:02:18. > :02:34.in the earlier in the week. A man has been jailed for 11 years

:02:35. > :02:37.for a number of offences. footballer Andy Carroll

:02:38. > :02:41.of his ?22,000 watch. The court heard the player

:02:42. > :02:43.was in north east London, driving home from his team's

:02:44. > :02:46.training ground, when Jack O'Brien pulled up beside him

:02:47. > :02:48.on a motorbike last year. He was then pursued by two

:02:49. > :02:50.suspects on motorbikes - forcing him onto the wrong side

:02:51. > :02:52.of the road. What do Mo Farah, Olly Murs

:02:53. > :02:55.and Alan Shearer have in common? Well, they'll all be playing

:02:56. > :02:57.football at Queens Park The celebrity match is to raise

:02:58. > :03:01.money for those affected But it's not the only initiative

:03:02. > :03:05.from the club to help locals in the aftermath of the disaster -

:03:06. > :03:08.as Emma Jones reports. The Westway Sports Centre sits

:03:09. > :03:10.in the shadow of Grenfell Tower. Tyler lost his

:03:11. > :03:12.grandfather in the fire. Mahmoud also knew people

:03:13. > :03:14.who lost their lives. Both have been taking part in a free

:03:15. > :03:18.summer football programme setup for children affected

:03:19. > :03:20.by the disaster, using coaches from Queens Park Rangers

:03:21. > :03:24.as well as Chelsea, We're here from ten o'clock

:03:25. > :03:28.until four o'clock, every day, It was because I want to feel how

:03:29. > :03:33.it is in the community and have good support and know that people

:03:34. > :03:37.are there for me. They talk about it and I can

:03:38. > :03:42.talk about it to them. We've got a lot of young people

:03:43. > :03:48.here that unfortunately know people Some of our young people were in the

:03:49. > :03:52.block on the morning of the fire. We are giving them an opportunity

:03:53. > :03:55.to get away from being in their hotel room,

:03:56. > :03:58.from spending the summer holidays maybe thinking about things that

:03:59. > :04:01.are going to cause them distress, It's a community that

:04:02. > :04:05.means so much to so many, including QPR's director

:04:06. > :04:08.of football, who grew up Under the Grenfell Tower is where

:04:09. > :04:16.the football pitch was outside. I played football

:04:17. > :04:19.with my mates out there. It's whatever we can do to help

:04:20. > :04:24.these kids, is what we will do. The plan was to put on the programme

:04:25. > :04:27.for six weeks, but that that is now going to be extended and it's hoped

:04:28. > :04:30.it will be here for at least another three years to these

:04:31. > :04:33.children and many more, Reading Buses has apologised

:04:34. > :04:45.after an "attack alarm" sounded in the town centre from one

:04:46. > :04:54.of its vehicles. This bus is under attack, please

:04:55. > :04:58.dial 999. The alarms are only supposed to be

:04:59. > :05:01.used in emergencies, but a driver accidently set it off

:05:02. > :05:04.in a busy part of town earlier in the week,

:05:05. > :05:05.worrying passers-by. It was right near the station

:05:06. > :05:09.and you think, oh my gosh, that bus is about to go down that

:05:10. > :05:12.route right into the station, where it could possibly

:05:13. > :05:14.hurt a lot of people. I'm sorry if it's caused anybody

:05:15. > :05:16.concern or caused a stir, but it sounds like everybody has

:05:17. > :05:19.done exactly what they were supposed to do, which is wake up,

:05:20. > :05:21.pay attention, and make contact You'd be hard-pressed to find

:05:22. > :05:27.a more colourful life Moving from Wales to Willesden

:05:28. > :05:30.during the Second World War, she was a successful painter before

:05:31. > :05:32.becoming an award-winning fashion editor, TV personality

:05:33. > :05:36.and erotic novelist. Her party lifestyle was notorious,

:05:37. > :05:55.but now, at 85, she's mellowed - So this is your garden. Yes. This

:05:56. > :06:00.bohemian nomad has put down roots in the last 15 years at the worlds and

:06:01. > :06:03.estate on the Kings Road in Chelsea, a long way from the Welsh mining

:06:04. > :06:08.village where she was born. There was nothing here when I came here,

:06:09. > :06:13.absolutely nothing, and I was so frightened. Well, it was a rough

:06:14. > :06:18.part of town in the late 1980s and Molly Parkin had been more used to

:06:19. > :06:23.living in arty corners and rock and roll mansions. She had to move here

:06:24. > :06:30.when alcohol made her bankrupt and homeless. I'm fearless and full of

:06:31. > :06:34.beans! UR! Fearless and full of beans, and with many friends,

:06:35. > :06:38.wherever I go. This is where I paint, because this is where the

:06:39. > :06:46.water is an these are all my brushes and everything. But it down. Put it

:06:47. > :06:51.down. This is how I start, you see what I mean. The first step is

:06:52. > :06:56.getting rid of the white. See, that's a good start, isn't it? It is

:06:57. > :07:02.a good start. That's what I think. She never paints on cue for the

:07:03. > :07:08.cameras, but she did for us! We've lost her to this canvas! But for 30

:07:09. > :07:13.years we lost her as an artist. She lost her muse. Instead, she became

:07:14. > :07:19.an award -- award-winning fashion editor. Very pink gallery. But art

:07:20. > :07:24.is her passion now but over the road at the 508 Kings Rd Gallery, a

:07:25. > :07:27.retrospective of her work which has talks on her life in colour and

:07:28. > :07:32.maybe a new edition started just for others in that vibrantly decorated

:07:33. > :07:37.flat. Somebody somewhere would like to have this. Wendy Hurrell, BBC

:07:38. > :07:40.London News. LAUGHTER

:07:41. > :07:42.What a wonderful life. Now here's Lizzie with

:07:43. > :07:53.the weekend weather. Good afternoon. A chilly start, the

:07:54. > :07:57.first day of meteorological autumn. Some early mist patches around, but

:07:58. > :08:00.lots of sunshine, which we'll see for the rest of the afternoon. There

:08:01. > :08:04.will be more cloud building here and there, probably more like sunny

:08:05. > :08:09.spells. One or two showers towards the east, but for the vast majority

:08:10. > :08:12.for as it's a dry day and it will feel pleasantly warm in the sunshine

:08:13. > :08:15.with a light breeze and top temperatures of 20-21. Some late

:08:16. > :08:20.sunny spells around this evening. More cloud the further east you are

:08:21. > :08:24.but overnight tonight we'll see the sky is clear. Where we get clear

:08:25. > :08:27.spells, temperatures will drop off. These are the values we'll probably

:08:28. > :08:30.get in many of the towns as we head into tomorrow morning but where we

:08:31. > :08:34.get the clear skies in the rural spots we could be as low as 7-8.

:08:35. > :08:38.Quite a chilly start to the day tomorrow. A nice bright one. What's

:08:39. > :08:44.more sunshine. The emphasis must be on the dry day tomorrow. But that

:08:45. > :08:48.could be one or two light showers, it's worth a mention. Pleasantly

:08:49. > :08:51.warm in the sunshine. Highs of 21-22. It's not looking very

:08:52. > :08:56.promising for Sunday. This weather front is making very slow progress.

:08:57. > :08:59.Probably a bright start to the day on Sunday, then gradually it will

:09:00. > :09:04.cloud over further. Winds will pick up and it will start to feel damp

:09:05. > :09:07.and we'll probably get outbreaks of rain in the evening. We are keeping

:09:08. > :09:11.an eye on that one because it keeps changing. Next week, a cloudy, damp

:09:12. > :09:12.start but with any brightness we'll see temperatures rising to the low

:09:13. > :09:13.20s again. But Riz will be here

:09:14. > :09:18.with all the latest on our
