0:00:00 > 0:00:00On BBC One we now join the BBC's news teams where you are.

0:00:13 > 0:00:14Welcome to BBC London News.

0:00:14 > 0:00:17I'm Alex Bushill.

0:00:17 > 0:00:19The Mayor has promised he'll find millions of pounds

0:00:19 > 0:00:27to give to London's youth services to help tackle growing knife crime.

0:00:27 > 0:00:30Speaking to BBC London this morning, he said the money would be on top

0:00:30 > 0:00:33of the £15 million extra he is already giving to the police.

0:00:33 > 0:00:35He also said there would be more use of the controversial

0:00:35 > 0:00:37tactic - stop and search.

0:00:37 > 0:00:38Here's our political correspondent, Karl Mercer.

0:00:38 > 0:00:41Expect to see plenty more of this.

0:00:41 > 0:00:43High-visibility policing, with a highly visible Mayor.

0:00:43 > 0:00:48Both with a knife crime problem on their hands.

0:00:48 > 0:00:56It's risen more than 20% in London.

0:00:56 > 0:00:58You said when you came into office that your

0:00:58 > 0:01:05number one priority was the safety of Londoners.

0:01:05 > 0:01:07Cressida Dick, in her first week as commissioner, said

0:01:07 > 0:01:10tackling violent crime was what she would be judged on.

0:01:10 > 0:01:13Do you accept that both of you at the moment are

0:01:13 > 0:01:13failing?

0:01:13 > 0:01:15I accept knife crime is too high.

0:01:15 > 0:01:18I accept knife crime has been going up too much across the country

0:01:18 > 0:01:19for the last three years.

0:01:19 > 0:01:22I accept we have got to do much more.

0:01:22 > 0:01:23How are you?

0:01:23 > 0:01:24How's it going?

0:01:24 > 0:01:26He's handed the Met £15 million more to tackle the issue.

0:01:26 > 0:01:29What you're going to see is more police operations across

0:01:29 > 0:01:30London.

0:01:30 > 0:01:32More weapons swoops, like we are seeing this morning.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35More disruption of people who may be carrying knives, targeting known

0:01:35 > 0:01:36knife offenders.

0:01:36 > 0:01:38But, yes, an increase of intelligence led,

0:01:38 > 0:01:39targeted stop and search.

0:01:39 > 0:01:42You know that that is going to be controversial, don't you?

0:01:42 > 0:01:43And it has been already.

0:01:43 > 0:01:46You have had criticism saying, look, members of the black

0:01:46 > 0:01:48community, young black men will say, here we go again.

0:01:49 > 0:01:50We have seen this before.

0:01:50 > 0:01:53We are going to be targeted and it is going to increase

0:01:53 > 0:01:54community tensions.

0:01:54 > 0:01:56None of us should pretend that the increased

0:01:56 > 0:02:02use of targeted stop and search will, by itself, reduce knife crime.

0:02:02 > 0:02:05What I do know is that we have a comprehensive package.

0:02:05 > 0:02:08When I speak to the victims of knife crime,

0:02:08 > 0:02:09bereaved families, communities, they remind me

0:02:09 > 0:02:11that the largest number of

0:02:11 > 0:02:16victims of knife crimes are black, Asian, multiethnic Londoners.

0:02:16 > 0:02:18The mayor has blamed Government cuts for falling police numbers

0:02:18 > 0:02:21but says in the coming weeks he expects to announce city hall

0:02:21 > 0:02:23money to boost youth services across the capital.

0:02:23 > 0:02:25What are we talking about, 20, £30 million?

0:02:25 > 0:02:27Is that the sort of figure we're looking at?

0:02:27 > 0:02:30I won't speculate what the figure could be but I am

0:02:30 > 0:02:33hoping to find in the Budget in the next few weeks

0:02:33 > 0:02:36around £20 million, which I would like to use for young

0:02:36 > 0:02:37people in London.

0:02:37 > 0:02:42These sort of searches are very much for the cameras.

0:02:46 > 0:02:48They do, though, highlight the concern at City Hall

0:02:49 > 0:02:50and Scotland Yard

0:02:50 > 0:02:52of one of their highest profile problems.

0:02:52 > 0:02:54A man has been charged over a double murder that

0:02:54 > 0:02:55took place a decade ago.

0:02:55 > 0:02:58Two Colombian nationals were found with stab wounds at a block

0:02:58 > 0:03:00of flats in Muller Road, Clapham in June 2007.

0:03:00 > 0:03:0235-year-old Gonzalo Remolina has been charged with their murders

0:03:02 > 0:03:06and is due to appear before Westminster magistrates later.

0:03:06 > 0:03:10Police on a raid in Essex have found a 4ft-long Caiman

0:03:10 > 0:03:12crocodile and 16 snakes at a house in Westcliff.

0:03:12 > 0:03:15A scorpion was also discovered at the premises.

0:03:15 > 0:03:17The operation was in connection with a cannabis factory found

0:03:17 > 0:03:18in Basildon two years ago.

0:03:18 > 0:03:28Lots of reptiles were also found there.

0:03:29 > 0:03:31Now, robot skies and surveillance drones all across the city?

0:03:31 > 0:03:33That's just one vision of the capital that's

0:03:33 > 0:03:35outlined in a new exhibition at the Museum of London.

0:03:35 > 0:03:38Wendy Hurrell took a look at what the future might hold.

0:03:38 > 0:03:48At the Museum of London, after delving into the capital's

0:03:48 > 0:03:51past, the present is a nice sit down and a cup of tea.

0:03:51 > 0:03:54Over year, this is what London might be like just a few decades from now.

0:03:54 > 0:03:56Fantastical futures by artists, designers,

0:03:56 > 0:04:01architects and film-makers.

0:04:01 > 0:04:05In The Robot Skies creates a world controlled by surveillance drones.

0:04:05 > 0:04:11The film itself was shot using them.

0:04:11 > 0:04:15The first film, as far as we know, to be entirely shot using

0:04:15 > 0:04:15autonomous drone systems.

0:04:15 > 0:04:20And that was important for us because it was really about trying

0:04:20 > 0:04:23to see the city through the eyes of a drone network, which is

0:04:23 > 0:04:28monitoring and controlling it.

0:04:28 > 0:04:33Two young people are confined in opposite towers and fall in love,

0:04:33 > 0:04:35communicating by a drone that they hack.

0:04:35 > 0:04:40It was filmed on the Somerset estate in Battersea.

0:04:40 > 0:04:43It is brutalist, a lot of hard surfaces, very confronting

0:04:43 > 0:04:47and uncompromising and particularly we chose this one because there

0:04:47 > 0:04:48are two extraordinary, imposing towers that became

0:04:48 > 0:04:50the perfect setting for our narrative.

0:04:50 > 0:04:53And we had one of our characters in one tower and another

0:04:53 > 0:04:58in the other tower.

0:04:58 > 0:05:01As we were able to get our drone to sort of dance back

0:05:01 > 0:05:03and forth between them.

0:05:03 > 0:05:06So, a familiar setting and story.

0:05:06 > 0:05:07And this exhibition takes what we now know,

0:05:07 > 0:05:10what we know from history, and uses them to explore

0:05:10 > 0:05:12what happens next.

0:05:12 > 0:05:20No-one can predict the future, so the best way to do

0:05:20 > 0:05:23that is to exaggerate the reality that we live in now.

0:05:23 > 0:05:25Stretch it and then project it in the future.

0:05:25 > 0:05:28So, this way, we can take a hypothetical scenario and we can

0:05:28 > 0:05:29look into these issues.

0:05:29 > 0:05:31It is a future that doesn't seem so far away.

0:05:31 > 0:05:33A lot of the technology is already here.

0:05:33 > 0:05:36They are going to be a really important part of our lives.

0:05:36 > 0:05:38They are soon going to be as ubiquitous as pigeons

0:05:38 > 0:05:40in a city like this one.

0:05:40 > 0:05:42And that is something that we need to be talking about.

0:05:42 > 0:05:47London Visions, at the Museum of London, is on until April.

0:05:47 > 0:05:49It suggests that the future's not us all moving to Mars,

0:05:49 > 0:05:55it is a much more grounded reflection on life.

0:05:55 > 0:05:58Now to football, and lots of our teams are in FA Cup

0:05:58 > 0:05:59action this weekend.

0:05:59 > 0:06:02Tottenham travel to Newport, who are in League Two.

0:06:02 > 0:06:05So, could Spurs go all the way this season and win?

0:06:05 > 0:06:07Emma Jones asked one of the players at a project

0:06:07 > 0:06:11which encourages people to get fit.

0:06:11 > 0:06:14An exercise class with a special guest.

0:06:14 > 0:06:17This is tournament fielder Erik Lamela visiting a Shape Up For

0:06:17 > 0:06:22Spurs class.

0:06:22 > 0:06:24It's a programme set up by the club to help local people

0:06:25 > 0:06:29learn about being fit and healthy.

0:06:29 > 0:06:31Fashion designer Jackie Dublin says it hasn't just changed her

0:06:32 > 0:06:33appearance but whole lifestyle.

0:06:33 > 0:06:35I feel great.

0:06:35 > 0:06:38And what is happening now is that everybody's looking at

0:06:38 > 0:06:40me and they can see the difference.

0:06:40 > 0:06:41They are saying, Jackie, you look great.

0:06:41 > 0:06:43And I am saying, and I feel great!

0:06:43 > 0:06:46And, you know, the feeling, you can't pay for that.

0:06:46 > 0:06:48It is such an amazing feeling, to feel healthy

0:06:48 > 0:06:49and strong.

0:06:49 > 0:06:51And if Erik appears a little reluctant to take part, it

0:06:51 > 0:06:55might be because he only recently returned from a hip injury.

0:06:55 > 0:06:59An injury which meant he didn't play for over a year.

0:06:59 > 0:07:03It was so hard to be out, but it is football.

0:07:03 > 0:07:07That happens.

0:07:07 > 0:07:10I got the injury and I need to respect the times after the

0:07:10 > 0:07:13surgery.

0:07:13 > 0:07:16And now, I am back again and I'm enjoying.

0:07:16 > 0:07:20Next up for Spurs, a trip to Newport in the FA Cup.

0:07:20 > 0:07:23The League Two side have even added a temporary stand for the extra

0:07:23 > 0:07:28supporters.

0:07:28 > 0:07:30Excitement for them but also perhaps for a Tottenham team who

0:07:30 > 0:07:36might believe they can win the cup this season.

0:07:36 > 0:07:38We need to go forward in all the competitions and try to

0:07:38 > 0:07:40win one trophy this season.

0:07:40 > 0:07:44Because I think we have a very good squad

0:07:44 > 0:07:47and I believe in this team, that we're going to achieve something.

0:07:47 > 0:07:51Tottenham are currently using Wembley as their temporary home.

0:07:51 > 0:07:59Could they be there in May to celebrate FA Cup success?

0:07:59 > 0:08:01Now the weather, with Elizabeth Ritzini.

0:08:05 > 0:08:09Good afternoon. It was a very chilly start of the day with some early

0:08:09 > 0:08:14mist patches around and some light showers as well. Plenty of cloud. It

0:08:14 > 0:08:18is starting to thin and break and we should see more bright and sunny

0:08:18 > 0:08:21patches emerging through the afternoon. Temperature is not quite

0:08:21 > 0:08:26as high as yesterday but still quite decent. We might see eight or nine

0:08:26 > 0:08:31Celsius later in central London. Overnight tonight, it will stay dry.

0:08:31 > 0:08:35Lots of clear skies around and maybe some mist and fog forming as we head

0:08:35 > 0:08:38into tomorrow morning as the temperature drops away. Temperatures

0:08:38 > 0:08:44could be low enough for a touch of rural frost, otherwise holding to

0:08:44 > 0:08:47between five and six Celsius into tomorrow morning. That mist and fog

0:08:47 > 0:08:52will lift into low cloud gradually. It is predominantly cloudy tomorrow.

0:08:52 > 0:09:00The weather front coming through will be mostly patchy drizzle. The

0:09:00 > 0:09:02wind will pick up and it will be 10 Celsius by the time we get to the

0:09:02 > 0:09:07end of the day. Very mild night on Saturday into Sunday. On Sunday,

0:09:07 > 0:09:11still quite windy and grey but it should we try our mostly dry. We

0:09:11 > 0:09:13will see brighter spells perhaps form into the afternoon.

0:09:13 > 0:09:19Temperatures all the way up to 13 Celsius. Possibly some rain around

0:09:19 > 0:09:22on Monday, staying mild but cooler and more settled for much of the

0:09:22 > 0:09:23rest of the week.

0:09:23 > 0:09:24That's about it from me.

0:09:24 > 0:09:28Riz will be here with our 6.30 evening programme.

0:09:28 > 0:09:33But for now, from us all, a very good afternoon.
