0:00:13 > 0:00:17Welcome to BBC London News. I'm Sara Orchard.

0:00:17 > 0:00:26It's been another difficult day for commuters due to the weather.

0:00:26 > 0:00:27Transport for London has said passenger numbers

0:00:27 > 0:00:29are down 20% on usual,

0:00:29 > 0:00:31due to the weather as many stayed at home.

0:00:31 > 0:00:32Paddington Station was also shut this morning.

0:00:32 > 0:00:38Here's our transport correspondent Tom Edwards.

0:00:38 > 0:00:42Day three and at Paddington, the station had to be shut this morning

0:00:42 > 0:00:47for two hours. Snow came through a gap in the roof causing icy

0:00:47 > 0:00:53platforms. Frustration for passengers like Kelly and Stacey, in

0:00:53 > 0:00:58London for morning meeting that got cancelled.A little bit shocked that

0:00:58 > 0:01:03the country has fallen apart at a bit of snow.A bit of a nightmare. A

0:01:03 > 0:01:07waste of a day to be honest. I can't believe there isn't better things in

0:01:07 > 0:01:15place.When trains were announced, a mad dash from commuters. Stephanie

0:01:15 > 0:01:19from Southend was trying to be philosophical. There's no point

0:01:19 > 0:01:30stressing about it. It's happened. Can you move down, please?Reduced

0:01:30 > 0:01:39services meant packed trains. Others found less passengers. The tube

0:01:39 > 0:01:44suffered with delays and while many stayed at home, at King's Cross, for

0:01:44 > 0:01:48example, they shut access due to overcrowding. Commuters seem to be

0:01:48 > 0:01:56adapting. What are you going to do? We'll try and go on the Thames Link.

0:01:56 > 0:02:02That will be working, we hope. There are technical reasons why some

0:02:02 > 0:02:08operators are more susceptible to snow and ice. Here at King's Cross,

0:02:08 > 0:02:13they use overhead power lines to power the trains. About a third of

0:02:13 > 0:02:18the network still use a third rail. How are coming through a rail on the

0:02:18 > 0:02:26track. That means it's much more susceptible to snow and ice. 60

0:02:26 > 0:02:30miles of canals in London are frozen over. Some pavements are being

0:02:30 > 0:02:36gritted. This was Downing Street. Many are not. The authorities fight

0:02:36 > 0:02:42to keep them moving. We've done OK. We are never complacent. Looking at

0:02:42 > 0:02:48the figures this morning, the taps in and out on the Tube network are

0:02:48 > 0:02:5420% down on a normal weekday. The roads are moving but it has been

0:02:54 > 0:02:59slowed going. As the snow turns to fix lunch, more disruption is

0:02:59 > 0:03:00expected.

0:03:00 > 0:03:03A man in his 60s died yesterday after being pulled from a freezing

0:03:04 > 0:03:06lake in a park in south east London.

0:03:06 > 0:03:07Emergency services were unable to save him.

0:03:07 > 0:03:12Victoria Hollins sent this report from Danson Park.

0:03:12 > 0:03:14Conditions in Danson Park Bexleyheath today,

0:03:14 > 0:03:16very much as they were yesterday.

0:03:16 > 0:03:19Very cold, very icy.

0:03:19 > 0:03:22Now, this pond is used in the summer for boating

0:03:22 > 0:03:24and at this time of year, I'm told, is often

0:03:24 > 0:03:28used by bird-watchers.

0:03:28 > 0:03:31Now, London Ambulance Service and the fire brigade were called

0:03:31 > 0:03:34here just before 4pm yesterday afternoon after reports that

0:03:34 > 0:03:36a man had fallen into the water.

0:03:36 > 0:03:39Now, initially it was believed he'd been chasing after a dog but it

0:03:39 > 0:03:41seems now that wasn't the case.

0:03:41 > 0:03:42He simply fell in.

0:03:42 > 0:03:48He was actually rescued by a member of the public,

0:03:48 > 0:03:51another park user before the emergency services had arrived.

0:03:51 > 0:03:52London air ambulance came also.

0:03:52 > 0:03:54The man was taken to hospital.

0:03:54 > 0:03:56He is believed to be in his 60s.

0:03:56 > 0:03:58But he died a short time later.

0:03:58 > 0:04:02Police say they are treating this as an unexplained death.

0:04:02 > 0:04:08They do know who this man is, his next of kin have been informed

0:04:08 > 0:04:14but his identity hasn't yet been released.

0:04:14 > 0:04:16Let's have a look at the current travel situation...

0:04:16 > 0:04:19On the tubes there are severe delays on the Metropolitan

0:04:19 > 0:04:22and Piccadilly lines, there are minor delays

0:04:22 > 0:04:22on the Distrtict line while London Overground

0:04:22 > 0:04:26is part suspended.

0:04:26 > 0:04:29On the trains, a majority of services in and out of London

0:04:29 > 0:04:32are impacted due to the weather with delays and cancellations,

0:04:32 > 0:04:40the advice is to check before you travel.

0:04:40 > 0:04:41A similar situtaion at airports in the south-east with warnings

0:04:41 > 0:04:43of cancellations to flights between the UK and Europe

0:04:43 > 0:04:46to free up congestion.

0:04:46 > 0:04:49Meanwhile, on the roads, most major routes are moving well.

0:04:49 > 0:04:54Two lanes are currently out in the Dartford Tunnel

0:04:54 > 0:04:56on the M25 anticlockwise in Kent because of ceiling icicles.

0:04:56 > 0:04:58This is the current picture approaching the area

0:04:58 > 0:05:03which is so far unaffected.

0:05:03 > 0:05:06A woman who bludgeoned her husband to death has won a bid

0:05:06 > 0:05:09to challenge her conviction at the Court of Appeal.

0:05:09 > 0:05:12Sally Challen is serving an 18-year prison sentence

0:05:12 > 0:05:15after killing her husband with a hammer.

0:05:15 > 0:05:21Her lawyers say she was the victim of "coercive control".

0:05:21 > 0:05:24She came to me and my brother separately and said, "You know what,

0:05:24 > 0:05:28he was making me question the facts I had on paper, my sanity."

0:05:28 > 0:05:29"I thought I was losing it."

0:05:29 > 0:05:32Which is the first part, I thought this was not right.

0:05:32 > 0:05:36He's starting to really wage a war on her.

0:05:36 > 0:05:39A man died this morning in a house fire in Coulsden.

0:05:39 > 0:05:42Six fire engines and 35 firefighters were called to the fire

0:05:42 > 0:05:44in Downland Close.

0:05:44 > 0:05:47The man was confirmed dead at the scene.

0:05:47 > 0:05:50Most of the first floor and around half the ground floor

0:05:50 > 0:05:51plus the roof were damaged.

0:05:51 > 0:05:58The cause of the fire is under investigation.

0:05:58 > 0:06:00Kensington and Chelsea Council have axed

0:06:00 > 0:06:03public meetings about the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower disaster

0:06:03 > 0:06:04in favour of drop-in sessions for residents.

0:06:04 > 0:06:06The decision was taken following repeated disruption.

0:06:06 > 0:06:08There were concerns that the meetings at

0:06:08 > 0:06:10Notting Hill Methodist Church were not giving residents

0:06:10 > 0:06:14what they needed and too often ended in shouting matches.

0:06:14 > 0:06:16The former Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, will appear before

0:06:16 > 0:06:18the London Assembly this afternoon to answer questions

0:06:18 > 0:06:22about the Garden Bridge project.

0:06:22 > 0:06:25The proposal was abandoned by Sadiq Khan, in August last year,

0:06:25 > 0:06:28but not before tens of millions of pounds of public money

0:06:28 > 0:06:30had already been spent.

0:06:30 > 0:06:35Mr Johnson will be asked who is accountable for the expenditure.

0:06:35 > 0:06:37A missing Nigerian masterpiece found in a north London

0:06:37 > 0:06:39flat has been sold at auction for a staggering

0:06:39 > 0:06:43£1.2 million pounds.

0:06:43 > 0:06:45The painting - called Tutu by Ben Enwonwu

0:06:45 > 0:06:48was expected to sell for around £300,000.

0:06:48 > 0:06:51But it smashed the guide price making it the most expensive piece

0:06:51 > 0:06:54of modern Nigerian art sold at auction.

0:06:54 > 0:06:58Before we check in on the weather, there are many who are

0:06:58 > 0:07:00enjoying the snowy weather.

0:07:00 > 0:07:03It includes this West London family who have improvised how

0:07:03 > 0:07:03they normally do the school-run.

0:07:03 > 0:07:06Do keep your pictures coming in to us at yourlondon@bbc.co.uk

0:07:06 > 0:07:08or on our Facebook page.

0:07:08 > 0:07:11So let's see how long the cold will continue-

0:07:11 > 0:07:17Elizabeth Rizzini has the weather for us.

0:07:17 > 0:07:20Up until the weekend and then it will start

0:07:20 > 0:07:23Up until the weekend and then it will start to get less cold. Lots of

0:07:23 > 0:07:27snowy pictures coming into our weather Watchers page. The big

0:07:27 > 0:07:31difference between yesterday and today is that there is very little

0:07:31 > 0:07:37sunshine today. It's been very windy. Italy cold. More snowfall

0:07:37 > 0:07:42this morning. This afternoon, lighter snow flurries, particularly

0:07:42 > 0:07:47towards the east. There will be more snow towards the West. Generally, a

0:07:47 > 0:07:55dry picture this afternoon. Very windy as well. We have a warning for

0:07:55 > 0:08:02the snow and wind with gusts up to 30 mph. That is making it feel extra

0:08:02 > 0:08:07chilli. This snowfall is really out towards the West. Perhaps edging

0:08:07 > 0:08:14into central areas. Dry further east but not too much sunshine. These

0:08:14 > 0:08:18have been the highest temperatures. It will feel a lot colder. -8 or

0:08:18 > 0:08:26nine with the wind chill. As you can see, the snow to the West has

0:08:26 > 0:08:31cleared and it's looking mostly dry. Generally a dry picture. These will

0:08:31 > 0:08:36be the lows but where we have got lying snow, we are looking at -5

0:08:36 > 0:08:43tomorrow morning. Still windy, as well. A Met Office weather warning

0:08:43 > 0:08:50for snow and ice tomorrow. Slippery surfaces. Expect disruption. Later

0:08:50 > 0:08:58on in the day, we'll see more heavy snowfall. If you liked flurries in

0:08:58 > 0:09:02the morning. Very little sunshine. Then the second system as we head

0:09:02 > 0:09:07through the afternoon into the evening rush hour. 5-8 centimetres

0:09:07 > 0:09:13of snowfall expected. Possibly disruption through the rush hour.

0:09:13 > 0:09:20Over the course of the weekend, it could be mostly dry. There will be

0:09:20 > 0:09:25lots of ice. That's what we are most concerned about.

0:09:25 > 0:09:25lots of ice. That's what we are most concerned about.

0:09:25 > 0:09:26That's about it from me.

0:09:26 > 0:09:29Louisa Preston will be here with our 6:30 evening programme.

0:09:29 > 0:09:31But for now, from us all, a very good afternoon.

0:09:31 > 0:09:34Stay warm.
