:00:00. > :00:10.From me, goodbye and a happy New Year.

:00:11. > :00:13.Good evening and welcome to BBC London News with me, Louisa Preston.

:00:14. > :00:15.Hundreds of people were forced to leave a West London pub

:00:16. > :00:19.last night before it was largely destroyed by fire.

:00:20. > :00:21.The Aeronaut pub in Acton was engulfed by flames

:00:22. > :00:27.as a New Year's Eve party was under way.

:00:28. > :00:29.More than 300 customers were led to safety,

:00:30. > :00:32.with over 70 firefighters needed to bring the fire under control.

:00:33. > :00:48.The fire alarm started going off, started seeing smoke, from the edges

:00:49. > :00:53.of the war. And then we realised that downstairs was on fire. Last

:00:54. > :01:02.night, during a packed New Year's Eve party, this pub called fire. The

:01:03. > :01:06.blaze would not stop for hours. Hundreds of people had enjoyed a

:01:07. > :01:11.circus show. One performer found herself trapped upstairs. She was

:01:12. > :01:21.saved by her friends. It was so quick, seconds, too much smoke came

:01:22. > :01:29.up, and we couldn't see or breathe. They managed to get us out onto the

:01:30. > :01:33.balcony. Somehow he found a ladder. Her friend, also a performer, was

:01:34. > :01:42.outside waiting for her. It was quite scary, and then this lady...

:01:43. > :01:50.There was a lady that started shouting, it is going to explode!

:01:51. > :01:53.It wasn't just the bravery of ordinary members of the public.

:01:54. > :01:58.Officers from the next-door police station also help to save people

:01:59. > :02:01.from the fire. One woman went into the building to save a woman having

:02:02. > :02:06.an asthma attack. Today fire teams inspected the damage. It has raged

:02:07. > :02:10.from the bottom to the top, the ground floor windows are smashed in,

:02:11. > :02:15.and the roof collapsed. There is still a smell of charcoal in the

:02:16. > :02:19.air. Six people, including some officers, were taken to hospital

:02:20. > :02:22.suffering from smoke inhalation or minor injuries. The cause of the

:02:23. > :02:26.fire isn't known, although several people we spoke to say they saw a

:02:27. > :02:27.Christmas tree go up in flames. The London Fire Brigade are

:02:28. > :02:32.investigating. Passengers using Southern Rail

:02:33. > :02:34.services have been warned that trains will be

:02:35. > :02:37.severely disrupted tomorrow at the end of another

:02:38. > :02:41.three days of strike action. The warning comes as a survey

:02:42. > :02:43.of commuters on the Southern network they don't support

:02:44. > :02:47.the ongoing strike action. if you've been affected

:02:48. > :02:51.by the strikes on Southern rail. We're hosting a special

:02:52. > :02:52.televised debate next Sunday, If you'd like to take part,

:02:53. > :02:56.email your details, including your point of view,

:02:57. > :02:57.to bbcraildebate@bbc.co.uk. More than 8000 performers

:02:58. > :02:59.from around the world have taken part in London's

:03:00. > :03:01.New Year's Day Parade. This year's theme

:03:02. > :03:03.was blockbuster movies, and despite the rain, Londoners

:03:04. > :03:05.and tourists lined the route, as pictures of the parade

:03:06. > :03:08.were broadcast across the globe. It's a positively cheery

:03:09. > :03:15.start to 2017, watched The annual New Year's Day Parade

:03:16. > :03:21.in central London gets bigger every year and,

:03:22. > :03:24.in light of recent terrorist attacks in Europe, 3000 extra

:03:25. > :03:26.police were drafted in. Both the Mayor and Scotland Yard

:03:27. > :03:29.have said there would be extra security for this

:03:30. > :03:33.New Year's Day Parade. Organisers say they want

:03:34. > :03:38.people to feel safe. The theme of this year's parade

:03:39. > :03:40.was Hollywood movies and many of the Londoners who took

:03:41. > :03:43.part acted out famous films. We've got 17 London boroughs

:03:44. > :03:46.represented here today, 8500 performers,

:03:47. > :03:49.around about 4000 of which They've got a wonderful, magical,

:03:50. > :03:54.marching band culture there and they have really

:03:55. > :03:58.embraced this event fully. We are called Alexis I Tiger

:03:59. > :04:01.Marching Band and we're from Wilmington, Delaware

:04:02. > :04:04.in the US. What's it like to be

:04:05. > :04:06.in London for this? And for some,

:04:07. > :04:13.the event had extra meaning. These children were from

:04:14. > :04:15.the St Christopher's Hospice I was asking, how does it

:04:16. > :04:20.feel to participate? What they said was that it felt

:04:21. > :04:24.like they were being part of a larger community,

:04:25. > :04:26.that they were represented, and that they were also honouring

:04:27. > :04:30.the work of St Christopher's. For some of them, it could be one

:04:31. > :04:33.of the last big things Even leaving their house and

:04:34. > :04:38.commuting to the hospice can be exciting, never mind going down

:04:39. > :04:40.central London for the parade. There was heavy rain

:04:41. > :04:42.later in the afternoon, Let's find out what the weather's

:04:43. > :04:52.doing with Aisling McCreevey. Hello there and

:04:53. > :04:54.a very happy New Year. It's been rather a damp

:04:55. > :04:57.start to the New Year, and over the next couple of hours

:04:58. > :05:00.we continue to see all of that Now, the rain will eventually push

:05:01. > :05:08.off to the south as we head The skies will clear, and it

:05:09. > :05:12.will certainly be a chilly night, temperatures falling close

:05:13. > :05:14.to or maybe dipping below freezing in one or two spots with the risk

:05:15. > :05:17.of one or two icy stretches first There will be a lot of cloud around

:05:18. > :05:22.at first, but increasing amounts of sunshine as we head

:05:23. > :05:23.through the day. But despite the sunshine,

:05:24. > :05:26.a very cold day, highs of just For Monday night into Tuesday,

:05:27. > :05:34.temperatures falling below freezing, so you will need some extra time

:05:35. > :05:37.if you are back to work on Tuesday morning to scrape your windscreen,

:05:38. > :05:40.but certainly staying very cold and very frosty for

:05:41. > :05:44.the rest of the week. Until then, have a lovely

:05:45. > :05:49.evening, goodbye.
