:01:13. > :01:15.You send your children to school and you expect them to come home.

:01:16. > :01:19.But you don't expect them to be coming home in a body bag.

:01:20. > :01:22.The mood was one of sadness and disbelief.

:01:23. > :01:25.However, there was also a positive message, a call for action,

:01:26. > :01:28.for a more united community and for an end to

:01:29. > :01:33.Community's missing, that's what I find.

:01:34. > :01:35.And we need to build back our community again,

:01:36. > :01:40.We've got to do our part as parents, as community leaders,

:02:37. > :02:44.People living under City Airport's flightpath -

:02:45. > :02:46.in south and east London - say new air traffic control

:02:47. > :02:48.technology is making their lives a misery.

:02:49. > :02:51.The airport says it was required by law to introduce

:02:52. > :02:53.the new navigation system - and that it's aimed at reducing

:02:54. > :02:57.the amount of time planes are flying above residents' homes.

:02:58. > :03:00.But those living beneath the flight path say the noise

:03:01. > :03:07.At a distance of 16 miles from Heathrow, aircraft noise

:03:08. > :03:11.dominates the local environment, registering over 60 decibels.

:03:12. > :03:15.This video made by campaigners shows just how noisy living under

:03:16. > :03:21.Last year, London City Airport introduced new air traffic

:03:22. > :03:26.It forced aircraft to follow concentrated routes in order to burn

:03:27. > :03:28.less fuel while flying over the capital.

:03:29. > :03:32.But, in trying to reduce carbon emissions, noise pollution over

:03:33. > :03:37.parts of south and east London intensified.

:03:38. > :03:40.The airport have made these changes because concentrated flight paths,

:03:41. > :03:44.they argue, possibly correctly, do enable them to fly planes more

:03:45. > :03:49.Now, we're not against that, but we do say that residents'

:03:50. > :03:53.concerns have to be taken into consideration as well.

:03:54. > :03:55.One area affected by the increase was Leytonstone.

:04:12. > :04:14.I have friends installing triple glazing.

:04:15. > :04:19.I know quite a number of people are considering moving out of the area.

:04:20. > :04:22.Well, City Airport has said that its aircraft now use a more

:04:23. > :04:27.accurate form of navigation, and a new arrival system should mean

:04:28. > :04:33.that claims spend less time flying over residential areas such as this.

:04:34. > :04:36.The Civil Aviation Authority says it will carry out a review assessing

:04:37. > :04:39.whether the impact and benefits of the airspace change

:04:40. > :04:45.And, with a further expansion of the airport planned

:04:46. > :04:48.and thousands more flights, just how and where they will

:04:49. > :04:52.fly is likely to be in many residents' minds.

:04:53. > :04:59.Let's get the weather now, here's Wendy Hurrell.

:05:00. > :05:04.It ended up a somewhat soggy Sunday, in stark contrast to first

:05:05. > :05:08.This is the mill pond that's known as the River Thames reflecting

:05:09. > :05:11.the clear skies at Rotherhithe, but there will be mostly cloudy

:05:12. > :05:14.skies reflected as we go through the west of the week,

:05:15. > :05:18.We still have to clear some of this heavy and persistent rain,

:05:19. > :05:22.but it will shift out to the east as we go through the night,

:05:23. > :05:24.leaving behind a fair amount of misty, murky low cloud,

:05:25. > :05:27.but that will keep the temperature up too, between 5 and 7 degrees.

:05:28. > :05:30.There won't be much that shifts that cloud throughout the afternoon.

:05:31. > :05:32.It really will be quite a grey day, with some drizzle

:05:33. > :05:38.We should get into double figures tomorrow,

:05:39. > :05:41.and indeed, for much of this week, but under a lot of cloudy skies,

:05:42. > :05:45.with spells of rain from time to time.

:05:46. > :05:52.We'll be back later though at 1020pm.

:05:53. > :05:54.Till then - have a very good evening.
