0:00:02 > 0:00:05That's all from me, stay with us on BBC One -

0:00:05 > 0:00:07it's time for the news where you are.

0:00:13 > 0:00:14Good evening.

0:00:14 > 0:00:15Welcome to BBC London News.

0:00:15 > 0:00:19I'm Sonja Jessup.

0:00:19 > 0:00:22Friends and family of the murdered teenager Quamari Barnes

0:00:22 > 0:00:25have made an emotional appeal today for parents across London to take

0:00:25 > 0:00:29action to try to stop any more young lives being lost.

0:00:29 > 0:00:31They'd gathered outside the 15-year-old's

0:00:31 > 0:00:35school in Kensal Green, where he was stabbed on Monday.

0:00:35 > 0:00:36Helen Mulroy has this report.

0:00:36 > 0:00:39Laying flowers, lighting candles, and with balloons, they came

0:00:39 > 0:00:41to remember Quamari Barnes, the 15-year-old schoolboy fatally

0:00:41 > 0:00:48stabbed as he made his way home from school on Monday.

0:00:48 > 0:00:50Hundreds attended the memorial held in Kensal Green,

0:00:50 > 0:00:56outside the Capital City Academy.

0:00:56 > 0:00:58They paid tribute to a much loved son, grandson, friend and cousin.

0:00:59 > 0:01:00Quamari was a special kid.

0:01:00 > 0:01:01There was more to him.

0:01:01 > 0:01:07He touched a lot of people.

0:01:07 > 0:01:10He was a good boy and he was humble and he loved everybody

0:01:10 > 0:01:12in his family, like me and my aunties.

0:01:12 > 0:01:15It is just so sad for anybody to lose their child like that.

0:01:15 > 0:01:18You send your children to school and you expect them to come home.

0:01:18 > 0:01:22You do not expect them to come home in a body bag.

0:01:22 > 0:01:24The mood was one of sadness and disbelief, however,

0:01:24 > 0:01:28there was also a positive message, a call for action, for a more united

0:01:28 > 0:01:32community and for an end to violence on the streets.

0:01:32 > 0:01:33The community is missing.

0:01:33 > 0:01:34That is what I find.

0:01:34 > 0:01:38We need to build back our community again, no matter where we live.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41We have got to do our part, as parents, as community leaders,

0:01:41 > 0:01:43we have got to start doing more.

0:01:43 > 0:01:45Who is ready to make a change?

0:01:45 > 0:01:46Yes.

0:01:46 > 0:01:47Who wants to make a change?

0:01:47 > 0:01:50Yes.

0:01:50 > 0:01:54Hands up, who is going to make the change for our kids?

0:01:54 > 0:01:57A change Quamari's family hope will become his legacy.

0:01:57 > 0:02:02Helen Mulroy, BBC London News.

0:02:02 > 0:02:05A statue of Princess Diana will be built at Kensington Palace by

0:02:05 > 0:02:07her sons, Prince Harry and the Duke of Cambridge.

0:02:07 > 0:02:08They said,

0:02:08 > 0:02:1120 years after her death, the time was right to recognise

0:02:11 > 0:02:15their mother's positive impact around the world.

0:02:15 > 0:02:16It's expected to be unveiled later this year.

0:02:16 > 0:02:18People living under City Airport's flightpath

0:02:18 > 0:02:20in South and East London say new air traffic control

0:02:20 > 0:02:23technology is making their lives a misery.

0:02:23 > 0:02:25The airport says it was required by law to introduce

0:02:26 > 0:02:26the new navigation system,

0:02:26 > 0:02:30and that it's aimed at reducing the amount of time planes are flying

0:02:30 > 0:02:31above residents' homes.

0:02:31 > 0:02:33But residents say the noise as become unbearable.

0:02:33 > 0:02:34Ayshea Buksh has more.

0:02:34 > 0:02:37At a distance of 16 miles from Heathrow, aircraft noise

0:02:37 > 0:02:39dominates the local environment, registering over 60 decibels.

0:02:39 > 0:02:42This video made by campaigners shows just how noisy living under

0:02:42 > 0:02:43London's flightpath can be.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45Last year, London City Airport introduced new air traffic

0:02:45 > 0:02:46control technology.

0:02:46 > 0:02:49It forced aircraft to follow concentrated routes in order to burn

0:02:49 > 0:02:51less fuel while flying over the capital.

0:02:51 > 0:02:53But in trying to reduce carbon emissions, noise

0:02:53 > 0:02:59pollution over parts of South and East London intensified.

0:02:59 > 0:03:02The airport have made these changes because concentrated flightpaths,

0:03:02 > 0:03:05they argue, possibly correctly, do enable them to fly planes more

0:03:05 > 0:03:12effectively and efficiently.

0:03:12 > 0:03:14We are not against that but we do say that residents'

0:03:14 > 0:03:19concerns have to be taken into consideration as well.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21One area affected by the increase was Leytonstone.

0:03:21 > 0:03:26Author Saci Lloyd has lived in the area for over 12 years.

0:03:26 > 0:03:29On some days, there is an aircraft flying over every 50 seconds.

0:03:29 > 0:03:37I have friends installing triple glazing.

0:03:37 > 0:03:39I know quite a number of people who are considering

0:03:39 > 0:03:41moving out of the area.

0:03:41 > 0:03:46City Airport have said that its aircraft now use a more

0:03:46 > 0:03:50accurate form of navigation, and a new arrival system should mean

0:03:50 > 0:03:54that planes spend less time flying over residential areas such as this.

0:03:54 > 0:03:57The Civil Aviation Authority says it will carry out a review,

0:03:57 > 0:03:59assessing whether the impact and benefits of the airspace change

0:03:59 > 0:04:04are as originally anticipated.

0:04:04 > 0:04:06And with a further expansion of the airport planned,

0:04:06 > 0:04:09and thousands more flights, just how and where they will

0:04:09 > 0:04:11fly is likely to be in many residents' minds.

0:04:11 > 0:04:17Ayshea Buksh, BBC London News.

0:04:17 > 0:04:20Time for the weather now, here's Wendy Hurrell.

0:04:20 > 0:04:23Good evening.

0:04:23 > 0:04:25This afternoon's rain will soon clear out of the way.

0:04:25 > 0:04:27It did not start like that, did it?

0:04:27 > 0:04:30Beautiful clear skies over the Thames this morning,

0:04:30 > 0:04:33but the reflection will mostly be of cloudy ones this week,

0:04:33 > 0:04:34although it is going to be milder.

0:04:34 > 0:04:37London starting with a temperature of eight degrees tomorrow,

0:04:37 > 0:04:40but it will be under a lot of mist and murk and low cloud,

0:04:40 > 0:04:43which will stay with us into the afternoon with a patch

0:04:43 > 0:04:44or two of drizzle.

0:04:44 > 0:04:46Some places will get into double figures tomorrow and that will be

0:04:46 > 0:04:50the figure we will get for the rest of the week under fairly

0:04:50 > 0:04:51cloudy skies, though, with spells of rain.

0:04:51 > 0:04:53That's it from us.

0:04:53 > 0:04:56Asad Ahmad will be here tomorrow morning, keeping you updated

0:04:56 > 0:04:59during BBC Breakfast.

0:05:11 > 0:05:11Good
