:00:29. > :00:40.Those who settled here 100 years ago during World War I may have passed
:00:41. > :00:44.on, but the spirit of affection between Belgium and London
:00:45. > :00:49.was very much alive by the river in Twickenham.
:00:50. > :00:53.The monument stood where the munitions factory set up
:00:54. > :00:56.by Guy Pelabon's grandfather and great uncle once was.
:00:57. > :01:01.6000 Belgian refugees joining the war effort with their hard work.
:01:02. > :01:05.These refugees, the Belgian refugees, were very much welcomed
:01:06. > :01:11.by the London community here, the London people, very warmly.
:01:12. > :01:15.They were able to start their business going, you know.
:01:16. > :01:21.I think more broadly, they were all part of the same
:01:22. > :01:28.project, which was resilience, survival, and eventually, victory.
:01:29. > :01:30.The German invasion of Belgium led to a mass exodus.
:01:31. > :01:34.As many as 250,000 fled across the Channel.
:01:35. > :01:37.Many ended up in camps south of the River Thames.
:01:38. > :01:41.It became a story about two different communities
:01:42. > :01:47.So, you know, there are parallels with the flow of refugees
:01:48. > :01:51.today and with, sort of, intercommunity tensions.
:01:52. > :01:57.The owner of the factory was a Frenchman.
:01:58. > :02:03.The people receiving them both were British and all of this
:02:04. > :02:09.As Belgian ambassador, we try to multiply these,
:02:10. > :02:14.I would say, bilateral gatherings, to show that we are in
:02:15. > :02:22.And local schoolchildren reinforced that message.
:02:23. > :02:24.Whatever the political changes in the future,
:02:25. > :02:27.there will always be a special bond between London and
:02:28. > :02:39.A teenager in south London has been critically injured
