:00:20. > :00:21.underneath a medieval church A tomb containing 30 lead coffins,
:00:22. > :00:28.which is believed to date back to the 1660s,
:00:29. > :00:36.was found by builders renovating the church
:00:37. > :00:38.next to the residence of the head of the Anglican Church.
:00:39. > :00:41.Dan Freedman has more. Lambeth Palace has been the London
:00:42. > :00:43.residence of Archbishops of Canterbury since the 13th
:00:44. > :00:46.century, but a chance renovation work next door yielded
:00:47. > :00:49.a startling discovery. It's a very interesting
:00:50. > :00:54.day, actually. We were exposing the ground as part
:00:55. > :00:57.of the job and we were lifting the slabs in the ark area
:00:58. > :01:02.and we uncovered an entry We put a camera on the end
:01:03. > :01:09.of a stick and discovered numerous coffins and one of them had
:01:10. > :01:12.a gold crown on top of it. We knew the archbishops
:01:13. > :01:14.had been buried there but all the other bodies - 20,000 -
:01:15. > :01:19.had all been taken away by the Victorians when they rebuilt
:01:20. > :01:29.the church, so it was just this one vault that was left,
:01:30. > :01:30.to our surprise. Among the 30 lead coffins,
:01:31. > :01:33.they believe there are five I came in thinking, this sounds
:01:34. > :01:36.like bad news, problem. And, wow, it's the crown,
:01:37. > :01:39.it's the mitre of an Archbishop We know there are five
:01:40. > :01:42.archbishops buried here. The first is Archbishop Bancroft,
:01:43. > :01:45.who chaired the committee that wrote What we don't know, still don't
:01:46. > :01:51.know, is who else is down there. The redeveloped Garden Museum
:01:52. > :01:53.where they were discovered You're going to get a glimpse
:01:54. > :02:01.of the steps leading down and we will hopefully put
:02:02. > :02:04.on a little exhibition but it is For now, the coffins
:02:05. > :02:10.will remain where they are. The vault in which they sit
:02:11. > :02:16.is simply too fragile to explore. A Utah woman, severely injured
