:00:19. > :00:23.A tomb containing lead coffins which is believed to date back
:00:24. > :00:27.to the 1660s was found by builders renovating the church next
:00:28. > :00:30.to the official London residence of the head of the Anglican Church.
:00:31. > :00:33.Lambeth Palace has been the London residence of Archbishops
:00:34. > :00:38.of Canterbury since the 13th century, but a chance discovery
:00:39. > :00:41.during recent renovation work next door yielded a startling discovery.
:00:42. > :00:47.It's a very interesting day, actually.
:00:48. > :00:50.We were exposing the ground as part of the job and we were lifting
:00:51. > :00:53.the slabs in the ark area and we uncovered an entry
:00:54. > :01:00.We put a camera on the end of a stick and discovered numerous
:01:01. > :01:04.coffins and one of them had a gold crown on top of it.
:01:05. > :01:06.We knew the archbishops had been buried there
:01:07. > :01:09.but all the other bodies - 20,000 - had all been taken
:01:10. > :01:12.away by the Victorians when they rebuilt the church,
:01:13. > :01:16.so it was just this one vault that was left, to our surprise.
:01:17. > :01:18.Among the 30 lead coffins, they believe there are five
:01:19. > :01:24.I came in thinking, this sounds like bad news, problem.
:01:25. > :01:28.And, wow, it's the crown, it's the mitre of an archbishop
:01:29. > :01:33.We know there are five archbishops buried here.
:01:34. > :01:36.The first is Archbishop Bancroft, who chaired the committee that wrote
:01:37. > :01:42.What we don't know, still don't know, is who else is down there.
:01:43. > :01:44.The redeveloped Garden Museum where they were discovered is due
:01:45. > :01:53.You're going to get a glimpse of the steps leading down
:01:54. > :01:56.and we will hopefully put on a little exhibition but it is
:01:57. > :01:59.For now, the coffins will remain where they are.
:02:00. > :02:03.The vault in which they sit is simply too fragile to explore.
:02:04. > :02:12.It's London's first community fridge - a public fridge where people can
:02:13. > :02:15.give spare food and those who need it can take it, free of charge.
:02:16. > :02:18.Caroline Davies went along to Brixton to see how it works.
:02:19. > :02:23.Whether it's cakes or wonky fruit and veg, leaving fruit in this
:02:24. > :02:30.Here in Brixton restaurants, shops and residents are contributing
:02:31. > :02:35.People who then want or need it can take it for free.
:02:36. > :02:38.It's been open for two months, so what did the people
:02:39. > :02:43.What sort of stuff have you taken out of there?
:02:44. > :02:49.Mostly fruit and vegetables, it's quite fresh, otherwise
:02:50. > :02:53.I think it's a brilliant idea because it cuts food waste
:02:54. > :02:56.and hopefully helps the people who really need food
:02:57. > :03:00.But how many people who really need it will be walking
:03:01. > :03:03.They probably won't wander through of their own accord
:03:04. > :03:12.but we do know they come in and we intentionally want
:03:13. > :03:15.the fridge to be open for everybody, we want it to be
:03:16. > :03:19.so that when someone takes food out of the fridge we aren't thinking,
:03:20. > :03:21.that person's had a hard day or they are poor, it's
:03:22. > :03:26.And they are trying to get the word out in any way they can.
:03:27. > :03:29.Just the other day a homeless person was walking around asking for change
:03:30. > :03:32.and I said we have the fridge inside, want to come and check it
:03:33. > :03:36.out, you can take food whenever you like and the first thing he said
:03:37. > :03:41.I said yes of course, just come down and have a look.
:03:42. > :03:44.I think it is about showing people that it's OK, you know,
:03:45. > :03:46.some things are free, some things are done
:03:47. > :03:53.They've had interest from volunteers across London who want to set
:03:54. > :03:56.up their own fridges, so less food in the capital will get
:03:57. > :04:06.Photographs detailing life in the East End in the 1940s
:04:07. > :04:09.and '50s have been published by the Tate.
