:00:00. > :00:09.I should say there will be continuing coverage on the BBC News
:00:10. > :00:34.Channel. Hello and welcome to BBC
:00:35. > :00:53.London News, with me, Riz Lateef. We have heard immense praise and
:00:54. > :00:59.gratitude to London's police and emergency surfaces, one man who was
:01:00. > :01:04.in a restaurant in Borough Market said of officers that they were our
:01:05. > :01:15.eyes and ears in keeping us safe and I won't get a chance to thank -- or
:01:16. > :01:20.hug them for what they did. As Karl Mercer now reports, as the city came
:01:21. > :01:20.under attack again, we saw acts of kindness and Londoners coming
:01:21. > :01:36.together. Once again, the sound of sirens
:01:37. > :01:40.and the sight of cordons. Once again, just ten weeks
:01:41. > :01:43.after the attack on Westminster, the capital has been
:01:44. > :01:45.attacked by terrorists. Once again, innocents
:01:46. > :01:48.have been murdered. Once again, the eyes
:01:49. > :01:50.of the world are on London, as they were when PC Keith Palmer's
:01:51. > :01:53.funeral was held in Back then, his colleagues
:01:54. > :01:56.lined the streets around Today, they line them
:01:57. > :01:59.for a very different reason. You know, when you don't know where
:02:00. > :02:02.to go, fortunately you had here... Andrew Nunn is the Dean of Southwark
:02:03. > :02:05.and conducted PC Palmer's funeral. Last night, he took in locals unable
:02:06. > :02:08.to sleep in their own homes, after visiting Borough Market
:02:09. > :02:10.in the moments after the attack. trying to get around the cordon
:02:11. > :02:15.to get back to the house. And there were people being tended
:02:16. > :02:18.to on the pavements by the emergency service and their friends,
:02:19. > :02:22.and it was unreal and frightening, and I still have that kind
:02:23. > :02:26.of sense of shock and fear, really, within me, which I think
:02:27. > :02:34.many people will be feeling. Amir Eden chairs
:02:35. > :02:37.the local residents' group and but for a last-minute
:02:38. > :02:41.change of mind. Unable to get to his flat, he was
:02:42. > :02:46.taken in by the Dean last night. I've known Andrew for a very long
:02:47. > :02:53.time, so it's helpful, yeah. No, sorry, yeah, I'm fine,
:02:54. > :02:57.I just feel quite emotional and... Because on Friday we were at
:02:58. > :03:02.an event which was celebrating this place and how residents in the area
:03:03. > :03:06.have done so much, and I felt kind of quite touched,
:03:07. > :03:10.because I was the person to take over and to leave the legacy,
:03:11. > :03:18.and I just feel, hopefully, I can try and show that Islam
:03:19. > :03:23.is a religion of peace, and we hope to help communities
:03:24. > :03:30.and not break them up. last night's attack will be hard
:03:31. > :03:40.to understand and explain. I took the kids out roller-skating,
:03:41. > :03:43.because I'm not trying to be part of all this sort of thing,
:03:44. > :03:46.I just don't want them around it. But then obviously, coming home,
:03:47. > :03:49.I have to be, so I thought, I have to try and explain,
:03:50. > :03:51.my daughter obviously, she can see, she's asking,
:03:52. > :03:54.so I've got to, in a childlike, friendly way, explain to her,
:03:55. > :03:58.so then we lit the candle As with previous attacks, many,
:03:59. > :04:08.though, are defiant. If me having a gin and tonic with my
:04:09. > :04:11.friends, flirting with handsome men, hanging out with brilliant women
:04:12. > :04:13.is what offends these people so much, I'm going to do it more,
:04:14. > :04:17.not less, because that is what makes London so great, that is what makes
:04:18. > :04:20.this the best city in the world. That was a message
:04:21. > :04:22.echoed by the Mayor. As Londoners, we aren't
:04:23. > :04:24.going to allow terrorists to change our way of life,
:04:25. > :04:27.we are going to carry on, mingling and mixing on a Saturday
:04:28. > :04:29.night in London Bridge We're going to go to the polls
:04:30. > :04:33.this Thursday and vote, we're not going to allow
:04:34. > :04:35.these terrorists Police say they're confident
:04:36. > :04:38.the attack was carried out by the three men shot dead
:04:39. > :04:41.last night but have arrested 12 people following raids
:04:42. > :04:54.in Barking this afternoon. Emotion and resilience from
:04:55. > :04:58.Londoners. Tom Edwards is with me, we will look to tomorrow in a
:04:59. > :05:04.moment, but this is a fast-moving investigation, isn't it? Yes, 48
:05:05. > :05:06.people injured, 21 critically, 12 arrests so far in this
:05:07. > :05:09.investigation, but what has really investigation, but what has really
:05:10. > :05:14.struck me is the resilience of the city. I was over on Westminster
:05:15. > :05:18.Bridge today, it was a normal, very busy Sunday there. I was also struck
:05:19. > :05:22.by what one police officer said to me, he said people are carrying on
:05:23. > :05:26.because this, unfortunately, is becoming more like the norm, and
:05:27. > :05:30.there are now calls for much more to be done to protect London's bridges.
:05:31. > :05:33.What you have to consider, particularly in iconic locations as
:05:34. > :05:35.a priority, perhaps some enhancements to the protection of
:05:36. > :05:38.pedestrian areas to ensure that the terrorists,
:05:39. > :05:40.who are seeking that media attention worldwide by striking
:05:41. > :05:42.in these iconic locations, there's protective measures to
:05:43. > :05:45.safeguard the well-being of not only London residence but all of those
:05:46. > :06:01.And the UK had of counterterrorism has said they are looking at some of
:06:02. > :06:05.those increased measures. Looking ahead to tomorrow, thousands of
:06:06. > :06:10.people, the start of the working week, and London Bridge a key
:06:11. > :06:14.interchange. Yes, that is right, and the cordoned has closed a lot of
:06:15. > :06:20.roads, 16 bus routes diverted, and in the middle of it is London Bridge
:06:21. > :06:27.Asian, the fourth busiest in the UK, 140,000 commuters a date use it. Is
:06:28. > :06:29.it going to be open for tomorrow rush hour? I have to say, at the
:06:30. > :06:32.moment that looks very unlikely. We are also hearing, in the last 20
:06:33. > :06:37.minutes, there will be a vigil tomorrow at City Hall. That is it
:06:38. > :06:45.from us, I will be back later during the ten o'clock news, goodbye.
:06:46. > :06:48.We've seen a few showers across London this afternoon,
:06:49. > :06:51.they're largely fading as we go through the next couple of hours,
:06:52. > :06:54.so we'll be left with a dry night and a clear night,
:06:55. > :06:56.and with slight winds in the suburbs, could be
:06:57. > :06:59.on the cool side, temperatures in the high single figures.
:07:00. > :07:01.We start tomorrow dry with sunshine, but as the day wears on,
:07:02. > :07:04.cloud starts to thicken up, the winds pick up too,
:07:05. > :07:07.some showers come in, and a more significant band of rain
:07:08. > :07:10.It will be wet and windy into Tuesday, feeling quite autumnal.
:07:11. > :07:20.Darren has more details in the national forecast.
:07:21. > :07:26.Some wet and windy weather on the way for the start of the new week.
:07:27. > :07:30.Over the weekend, in fresh air, we have seen sunshine and showers, a
:07:31. > :07:34.line of showers pushing towards eastern England, they will decay. We
:07:35. > :07:37.will keep the showers for longer in Scotland, then they will probably be
:07:38. > :07:38.overtaken by this thickening
