:00:00. > :00:00.I'll be back with the team for the late news at 20 past ten -
:00:00. > :00:07.now on BBC1 it's time for the news where you are.
:00:08. > :00:16.Good evening and welcome to BBC London News.
:00:17. > :00:22.First tonight, the growing frustration among volunteers
:00:23. > :00:24.trying to help victims of the Grenfell Tower fire
:00:25. > :00:25.in North Kensington, claiming there's a lack
:00:26. > :00:28.of leadership and coordination from the Government and council.
:00:29. > :00:31.The borough's town hall was boarded up following last night's protests,
:00:32. > :00:49.The main doors and windows at Kensington Town Hall
:00:50. > :00:52.This left many volunteers who said they'd been told
:00:53. > :00:54.to come here confused about what they should do next.
:00:55. > :00:59.Amanda Baxter had two vanloads of clothes and supplies which had
:01:00. > :01:02.She says she'd arranged to meet a relief coordinator here,
:01:03. > :01:05.but could only talk to a security guard through tinted windows.
:01:06. > :01:07.I'm absolutely shocked, if I'm honest.
:01:08. > :01:16.They're real victims, and there's nobody here
:01:17. > :01:18.to stand here and say, "Right, yes, you need to take
:01:19. > :01:20.that there, or you need to take that there."
:01:21. > :01:26.These were the angry scenes last night as protesters demanded
:01:27. > :01:34.Today it's quiet apart from volunteers who say
:01:35. > :01:38.I've got people coming up to me giving me bags of stuff,
:01:39. > :01:40.and they're saying, "Look on the website, look
:01:41. > :01:44.This is not good enough - do you know what I mean?
:01:45. > :01:46.They're the people that are in charge to deal
:01:47. > :01:48.with this situation, and they're saying, we'll take
:01:49. > :01:51.control and we'll dish it out to all the local authorities
:01:52. > :01:53.and the local day centres, and now they won't accept my donation,
:01:54. > :01:58.It's a similar story of chaos at relief centres near Paddington,
:01:59. > :02:00.where people are crying out for a plan of action.
:02:01. > :02:03.I would like some officials to come down, to give some direction,
:02:04. > :02:05.to organise some storage, organised vans, not rely
:02:06. > :02:08.Get the government officials involved.
:02:09. > :02:12.From many of those volunteering, the message is clear.
:02:13. > :02:24.And Sarah joins me now - what has the council
:02:25. > :02:34.Well, there is a note on the council website saying the reason town hall
:02:35. > :02:38.was closed last night was because of the damage done by protesters, but
:02:39. > :02:41.we have asked for an interview both yesterday and today and they have
:02:42. > :02:45.declined. I think there is a feeling that perhaps in these sensitive
:02:46. > :02:48.times it might be better to say nothing than to say something that
:02:49. > :02:52.could make the situation worse. Whether that strategy is working,
:02:53. > :02:54.given people are crying out for leadership, is another question. OK,
:02:55. > :02:56.Sarah, thank you. Of course it's also been a difficult
:02:57. > :02:59.time for many of the neighbours of Grenfell Tower -
:03:00. > :03:02.they were forced to leave They've now returned,
:03:03. > :03:05.but as Caroline Davis reports many are deeply distressed,
:03:06. > :03:07.as they try to carry on in the shadow of
:03:08. > :03:22.the burned out tower block. Three days ago Kismet could only
:03:23. > :03:26.watch. Evacuated from his nearby flat with his family, he has now
:03:27. > :03:29.been allowed back home, but he couldn't sleep last night as
:03:30. > :03:38.protests went through the streets. He is worried about his children. I
:03:39. > :03:43.saw them, looking at something, staying, worrying about things.
:03:44. > :03:47.Among the many problems in Kismet's flat he says the fire alarms have
:03:48. > :03:50.not been working for five years. Yesterday someone came round. The
:03:51. > :03:56.fire alarm was changed yesterday, they came quick and said, if you
:03:57. > :03:59.need anything, we can do it, but it's too late. Viviana and David
:04:00. > :04:03.live in the same block, and they say they still don't know there are
:04:04. > :04:08.safety routes. We obviously have fire assemblies and things for when
:04:09. > :04:11.fire happens but I have never had anything like that here or anyone
:04:12. > :04:14.tell me where to go if there is a fire. Some of the people I was
:04:15. > :04:17.speaking to inside today did not want to appear on camera but said
:04:18. > :04:21.they did want their message to get across, that they want an apology,
:04:22. > :04:28.they want someone to take responsibility for what happened at
:04:29. > :04:31.Grenfell. They feel at the moment they can't even trust their homes,
:04:32. > :04:35.let alone the authorities. These families are back living at the foot
:04:36. > :04:39.of the tower. Sitting at the dining table, and you see the lights from
:04:40. > :04:43.the tower, used to see that, but now it is a black hole, just nothing.
:04:44. > :04:45.They are home, but it'll never the same.
:04:46. > :04:49.Let's take a quick look at the weather.
:04:50. > :05:00.More sunshine tomorrow. Very high UV levels and it will be hotter as
:05:01. > :05:05.well, with highs of 31 Celsius. We will be back at 6:30pm tomorrow on
:05:06. > :05:09.BBC One and we will of course have all the latest on the Grenfell Tower
