:00:00. > :00:17.I'm Asad Ahmad. for the news where you are.

:00:18. > :00:21.So the focus on cladding on high-rise buildings

:00:22. > :00:26.continues across London, but so do questions about the way

:00:27. > :00:28.the deadly fire at Grenfell Tower was initially handled by Kensington

:00:29. > :00:36.Plans were already in place to deal with a major emergency in London,

:00:37. > :00:38.but they weren't acted upon, as our Political Editor,

:00:39. > :00:41.Why didn't help kick in immediately for those who survived,

:00:42. > :00:48.It took 48 hours for the council, Kensington Chelsea, to call for

:00:49. > :00:54.The former civil servant who helped set up London's

:00:55. > :00:56.emergency response procedures, says they are exemplary on paper.

:00:57. > :00:58.It was the system of triggering them which

:00:59. > :01:02.I think there'll have to be a better system in place,

:01:03. > :01:06.one where Central Government might have to intervene early on and other

:01:07. > :01:08.boroughs are allowed to intervene early on to ask very serious

:01:09. > :01:11.questions, to say, do you want help with sending it now?

:01:12. > :01:14.With these events you should throw the

:01:15. > :01:16.resources at it early and get ahead of it.

:01:17. > :01:19.By the time you have failed to do that, it is too late.

:01:20. > :01:21.But financial help and re-housing plans

:01:22. > :01:25.Quite rightly, one of the things we'll have

:01:26. > :01:27.to look at is maybe it should be the Government

:01:28. > :01:31.But the Government has now, later in the day,

:01:32. > :01:34.but absolutely now on top of us, and absolutely funnelling

:01:35. > :01:39.And one of the things that I think will also come out of

:01:40. > :01:44.this inquiry is make sure that we look at

:01:45. > :01:46.fire regulations in the

:01:47. > :01:48.As tenants in four Camden blocks spent a second night away

:01:49. > :01:49.from their homes, at least half a dozen of London's

:01:50. > :01:52.councils are known to have some cladding problems.

:01:53. > :01:56.And the inspections of the last week have

:01:57. > :01:59.The cladding issue is being inspected, I

:02:00. > :02:03.But we had a fire in my constituency yesterday,

:02:04. > :02:07.in a lower rise building, without cladding and I'm really

:02:08. > :02:09.concerned that the Government needs to step up

:02:10. > :02:14.the inspections and support across blocks that could have wider issues.

:02:15. > :02:19.No-one's quite clear yet what Grenfell Tower

:02:20. > :02:32.And as investigations continue across London boroughs

:02:33. > :02:34.into cladding around buildings, Tara Welsh, has been to Wandsworth,

:02:35. > :02:37.where a high-rise there has failed a test by Government

:02:38. > :02:47.You can see the Wembley arch, and slightly to the right

:02:48. > :02:49.you actually can see the building where the fire took place...

:02:50. > :02:54.cladding was put on Jose's building when it was refurbished.

:02:55. > :02:57.It's now been tested and doesn't meet current fire-safety standards.

:02:58. > :03:03.To me, at the moment, I don't feel that worried,

:03:04. > :03:05.because obviously if the fire brigade come in,

:03:06. > :03:10.does meet requirements, except the outside, then we just

:03:11. > :03:17.What I'm hoping for is that, by Monday, I will see

:03:18. > :03:19.scaffolding going up, and the council say,

:03:20. > :03:22.The council have told us that in response to the findings,

:03:23. > :03:24.a specialist team from the Fire Brigade have checked

:03:25. > :03:29.things like fire doors, electrical cupboards and dry risers,

:03:30. > :03:34.and they say they found there is no reason for people to move out.

:03:35. > :03:37.Wandsworth Council said this is different to Camden -

:03:38. > :03:39.tower blocks were evacuated there when officers found

:03:40. > :03:43.problems with insulation, gas pipes and fire doors,

:03:44. > :03:46.Here, the council says it's been confirmed there

:03:47. > :03:50.is no undue risk to residents, but the cladding will be removed

:03:51. > :03:54.as soon as possible, and fire marshals will be stationed here.

:03:55. > :03:57.I find it quite awful, actually, because there's a lot of old people

:03:58. > :04:00.that live in the block, single mums with children, you know,

:04:01. > :04:02.and it's quite devastating, actually, to think all

:04:03. > :04:07.I think that the concern for vulnerable people,

:04:08. > :04:11.those trying to get down a single staircase in a panic situation,

:04:12. > :04:14.is going to be something quite unnerving to a lot of people here.

:04:15. > :04:18.But I think there's also a certain calmness the council put in place,

:04:19. > :04:22.elements of due diligence, fire watch et cetera

:04:23. > :04:29.Cladding on blocks from seven London boroughs have now failed

:04:30. > :04:31.Government tests as consequences of the Grenfell Tower

:04:32. > :04:45.Dry, sunny and very warm - but not too hot for most.

:04:46. > :04:47.Top temperature of 24 Celsius in town and slightly cooler

:04:48. > :04:51.That's it from the BBC London weekend team.

:04:52. > :04:53.I hope you stay with us during the week.

:04:54. > :05:16.Good evening. We start with a look at the big picture, which is a broad

:05:17. > :05:21.area of low pressure moving from our shores. The winds ease down as the

:05:22. > :05:26.isobars move apart. We look at the west for the next area of low

:05:27. > :05:28.pressure. So, it is quieter overnight.
