:00:32. > :00:34.is waiting for the council to elect a new leader, and rejected calls
:00:35. > :00:37.by the Mayor of London to put the council in special measures.

:00:40. > :00:41.The leader's gone, finally succumbing to the pressure.
:00:42. > :00:45.He'd said this storming of the town hall a fortnight ago had been
:00:46. > :00:49.Things became untenable when he cut short this meeting of his Cabinet
:00:50. > :01:04.But today, that was rejected by the Minister whose constituency
:01:05. > :01:18.So I think it's important for local democracy to have its say.
:01:19. > :01:20.It's quite a big thing for a government to do,
:01:21. > :01:25.a quasi-judicial role for the Secretary of State.
:01:26. > :01:29.Surely if there was ever a time to send in the Commissioners
:01:30. > :01:31.to get a grip of this crisis, it's now.
:01:32. > :01:34.We're waiting for the new leader to come in place at the council.
:01:35. > :01:36.There is an interim chief executive, who's come over
:01:37. > :01:38.from Lewisham Council and doing a good job there.
:01:39. > :01:42.Others say the community of North Kensington would be
:01:43. > :01:43.reassured by a government task force coming in.
:01:44. > :01:46.I say that they've got to restore confidence of the local community,
:01:47. > :01:49.particularly the people directly affected by the fire, and they've
:01:50. > :01:55.What we've got is an administration in Kensington and Chelsea that have
:01:56. > :01:58.shown they've got an inability to be able to connect.
:01:59. > :02:00.But one borough councillor says it must be allowed
:02:01. > :02:07.The council has to be given, in my view, as an institution that
:02:08. > :02:10.will be there for years to come, people to come, has to be given
:02:11. > :02:13.One of the worries I have about appointing government
:02:14. > :02:16.commissioners to run this, is that you deny and delay
:02:17. > :02:18.the opportunity for that reconciliation, if you like.
:02:19. > :02:21.Meanwhile, tenants in buildings close to Grenfell Tower
:02:22. > :02:23.won't have to pay rent for a while because
:02:24. > :02:28.A clear gesture from this troubled local council,
:02:29. > :02:30.as it prepares to choose new leadership this week.
:02:31. > :02:36.Thousands of people headed to Trafalgar Square
:02:37. > :02:44.The Mayor, Sadiq Khan, said that in light of the recent terror
:02:45. > :02:47.attacks in the capital and the fire at Grenfell Tower, this
:02:48. > :02:49.year's celebration is all about standing in solidarity.
:02:50. > :02:53.# We've got the world on our shoulders...#.
:02:54. > :02:59.For many here today who fasted for 20 hours some days,
:03:00. > :03:14.This festival is about celebrating unity.
:03:15. > :03:16.One of the great things about London is we don't simply
:03:17. > :03:18.tolerate difference, we respect it, we embrace it
:03:19. > :03:21.and we celebrate it, just like St Patrick's Day,
:03:22. > :03:26.Jewish festivals, Hindu festivals, Christian festivals, Sikh festivals.
:03:27. > :03:29.I'm really pleased to have Eid again here, the biggest and best ever.
:03:30. > :03:32.Eid, did loads of cooking, then I got dressed up...
:03:33. > :03:34.We are highlighting that whole message about being one,
:03:35. > :03:41.It doesn't matter what faith or background or religion
:03:42. > :03:43.or country you're from, London is an amazing city
:03:44. > :03:46.and we all want to just come together, have a good time.
:03:47. > :03:51.The atmosphere is great, you know, we have people from all faiths
:03:52. > :04:01.A chance, after a difficult time, to show a city united.
:04:02. > :04:08.Well, the weather looked absolutely gorgeous at Trafalgar Square,
:04:09. > :04:10.but how are things looking for the rest of the week?
:04:11. > :04:17.If you're heading to Wimbledon this week, you'll need to take both
:04:18. > :04:22.an umbrella and some sun cream - fairly typical British
:04:23. > :04:26.We have cloud building through tonight with some outbreaks
:04:27. > :04:28.of rain, and they'll continue into the morning.
:04:29. > :04:30.Fairly drizzly rain, but quite a lot of cloud around first thing.
:04:31. > :04:34.It does break up by the afternoon to give us some sunny spells,
:04:35. > :04:36.but also quite a few showers, and they'll be fairly
:04:37. > :04:40.As we head through the week, a shower never too far away,

:05:36. > :05:40.Argyll and Bute it was a different story, and indeed widely across the
:05:41. > :05:43.western side of Scotland, tied in with a weather front which will drag
:05:44. > :05:48.its way down towards the western side of England, quitting Scotland
:05:49. > :05:51.and Northern Ireland but leaving behind some pretty sharp showers.
:05:52. > :05:53.Temperatures could dip into single
