:00:14. > :00:15.Good evening, and welcome to BBC London News.

:00:16. > :00:19.A Met Police Chief has accused the private car hire firm Uber

:00:20. > :00:22.of failing to report serious crimes - including sex assaults -

:00:23. > :00:29.Inspector Neil Billany has written to transport bosses,

:00:30. > :00:30.saying he has "significant concern" that officers are being kept

:00:31. > :00:36.Uber insists it always works closely with the police.

:00:37. > :00:51.It's quick, it's easy, but is it dangerous? A senior Met police

:00:52. > :00:56.officer says Uber are turning a blind eye when drivers are accused

:00:57. > :01:02.of serious crimes by passengers. In a letter to TfL, he cites an example

:01:03. > :01:06.of a driver who denies sexual assault, continues to work for Uber

:01:07. > :01:10.but then commits a more serious sexual assault while working. Uber

:01:11. > :01:14.did not tell the police. Anyone travelling by private hire vehicle

:01:15. > :01:18.in London monster now that that they could will be safe and their driver

:01:19. > :01:21.is safe, and I think this raises very serious concerns about the

:01:22. > :01:25.operation of Uber, and if the police have a serious concerns then clearly

:01:26. > :01:30.Transport for London will need to look at that as they review the

:01:31. > :01:35.lessons going forward. But Katherine says it was inappropriate but might

:01:36. > :01:40.not have prevented the second incident if reported. Then the

:01:41. > :01:49.second incident, the driver placed his hand on a passenger's leg. They

:01:50. > :01:52.were reviewed in May, and in May they were given another four

:01:53. > :01:57.months's license and really they should not have been given one in

:01:58. > :02:01.May. You have seen all the correspondence from the police to

:02:02. > :02:06.TfL, warning them what is going on, TfL have to take responsible at it.

:02:07. > :02:09.TfL say any delay in reporting serious crimes is totally

:02:10. > :02:13.unacceptable. We have been in contact with the operator to ask

:02:14. > :02:16.them to respond to these concerns. More than 1 million Uber journeys

:02:17. > :02:20.happen every week in London, it is clearly popular with some customers

:02:21. > :02:23.but this is bad news at what is a very important time for the company,

:02:24. > :02:27.with Transport for London currently be reviewing whether to grant them a

:02:28. > :02:29.five-year licence when it expires in September. Dan Freedman, BBC London

:02:30. > :02:32.news. A 16-year-old boy and an 18-year-old

:02:33. > :02:35.woman have been charged over the murder of a schoolboy,

:02:36. > :02:38.who was stabbed to death in south Jermaine Goupall, who was 15,

:02:39. > :02:41.had been confronted by three men wearing balaclavas,

:02:42. > :02:47.and armed with knives and a machete. Police are trying to discover

:02:48. > :02:52.if his death is linked to an incident earlier that

:02:53. > :02:54.afternoon, between a group of masked Tens of thousands of people

:02:55. > :02:57.in Hertfordshire have been celebrating a Hindu festival today,

:02:58. > :03:01.marking the birth of Krishna. Organisers of the Janmashtami

:03:02. > :03:03.Festival, being held in Watford, say it's one of the largest

:03:04. > :03:22.of its kind outside of India. It is one of the most important

:03:23. > :03:26.festivals of the Hindu factor, and here near Watford, annual

:03:27. > :03:29.celebration of Lord Krishna's birthday certainly draws in the

:03:30. > :03:32.crowds. Lord Krishna is often depicted with blue skinned playing

:03:33. > :03:38.the flute, and is regarded as the God of love and compassion. His

:03:39. > :03:42.birthday is also known as Janmashtami. The Harry Krishna

:03:43. > :03:47.lifestyle and Janmashtami is all about world peace and happiness, but

:03:48. > :03:50.it begins with inner peace. Then we can have global peace, and that is

:03:51. > :03:54.what we want to introduce to everyone, that in peace through yoga

:03:55. > :03:59.and meditation and through the charging of God's holy names.

:04:00. > :04:04.Throughout the day, visitors pray inside the temple manor house, which

:04:05. > :04:09.was originally donated by Beatles musician, George Harrison, and in

:04:10. > :04:14.the grounds of the house, they are entertained by music and song and

:04:15. > :04:18.given a free the jittery and mail. It is a special day of the year for

:04:19. > :04:21.us, so just going to see the festival and the herd to see the

:04:22. > :04:25.festival for the first time, our little daughter. We have a local

:04:26. > :04:28.temple, we celebrated at home as well, but to be amongst the people

:04:29. > :04:34.and connect with people is a great thing, so this is why we are here

:04:35. > :04:36.today. And for all generations, the celebrations will carry on late into

:04:37. > :04:45.the night. As you saw, some glorious weather

:04:46. > :04:51.today, will it stick around? A full forecast now from Wendy Fawell. What

:04:52. > :04:54.a beautiful day it has been across London and the Home Counties. I even

:04:55. > :04:57.saw a hot air balloon first thing this morning, and there were some

:04:58. > :05:01.Weather Watchers pictures really quite impressive. This is just one

:05:02. > :05:04.of them sent in to us today. We start this new working week, warm at

:05:05. > :05:09.first, there will be some rain but it will mainly be falling at night

:05:10. > :05:14.across our part of the world. Not so tonight, though, we go into this

:05:15. > :05:18.evening and overnight with patchy clouds, not quite as chilly as last

:05:19. > :05:22.night. London itself around 14 degrees. We start the new working

:05:23. > :05:25.week with a little bit of brightness and sunshine to commute to work in.

:05:26. > :05:29.There will be light winds throughout the day tomorrow but we will see any

:05:30. > :05:32.sunshine turning more hazy and silvery as high cloud comes in

:05:33. > :05:36.later, mostly dry perhaps a spot of rain by the end of the day. The

:05:37. > :05:41.temperatures could reach 2425 degrees. Still one want Tuesday.

:05:42. > :05:45.Perhaps some showery outbreaks of rain overnight into the first part

:05:46. > :05:49.of Tuesday then we look like we will have a dry middle part of the week,

:05:50. > :05:51.one or two further showers on Thursday with the breeze. That is it

:05:52. > :05:56.for me. I'll be back at 10.20

:05:57. > :05:59.tonight with the latest
