:00:24. > :00:26.London's Mayor, Sadiq Khan, urged the crowds to keep their thoughts

:00:30. > :00:31.He also met with survivors and faith leaders.

:00:32. > :00:41.The sun was out and so were the Carnival kings and

:00:42. > :00:45.Family day at Notting Hill drew the crowds.

:00:49. > :00:49.Amazing, it's the best part of the year.

:00:50. > :00:57.Everyone just getting together, a party, it's nice.

:00:58. > :01:00.But in the distance, a tragic reminder of the

:01:01. > :01:05.suffering this community has so recently felt.

:01:06. > :01:08.Earlier in the day, a flock of doves were released in

:01:09. > :01:10.remembrance of those who lost their lives

:01:11. > :01:14.The Mayor Sadiq Khan joy and religious leaders

:01:15. > :01:20.We've had horrific events ten weeks ago at Grenfell Tower.

:01:21. > :01:31.This is a community still grieving, sad and sorrowful but it's important

:01:32. > :01:34.to recognise that many families of the victims of the community work

:01:35. > :01:37.We honour the victims, we will redouble our

:01:38. > :01:40.We want a safe and successful Carnival.

:01:41. > :01:42.Carnival organisers have encouraged people coming here today

:01:43. > :01:45.to wear or accessorize in green for Grenfell as a mark of respect

:01:46. > :01:48.Many survivors of the fire came along today.

:01:49. > :01:50.It's lovely that so many of them came.

:01:51. > :01:52.A lot of them have not been to the Carnival

:01:53. > :01:56.before and they got a ringside seat and they are having a lovely time.

:01:57. > :01:58.The police presence was the heaviest it has

:01:59. > :02:00.been because of fears of a

:02:01. > :02:05.A protective ring of steel was placed

:02:06. > :02:11.But it didn't seem to dampen spirits.

:02:12. > :02:14.It was really fun and exciting, everyone having a good time.

:02:15. > :02:24.It is really amazing, I did not think it was child friendly but it

:02:25. > :02:33.This part of west London is still in mourning for

:02:34. > :02:36.those who died in the fire ten weeks ago but today's

:02:37. > :02:39.community spirit here and a determination to honour those

:02:40. > :02:43.Essex County Council says more than a thousand calls have been made

:02:44. > :02:46.to a hotline set up for school staff who didn't get paid.

:02:47. > :02:48.Because of an error, 20,000 teachers and support staff,

:02:49. > :02:50.who should have received their monthly salary on Friday,

:02:51. > :02:53.The council's now carrying out a "full audit"

:02:54. > :02:57.It says it's made 100 emergency payments to staff

:02:58. > :03:06.The money will be going in on Tuesday morning.

:03:07. > :03:09.It's expected to be at the same time obviously as

:03:10. > :03:11.some people's mortgage and their general direct debits, standing

:03:12. > :03:13.orders will come out, so for many people, this

:03:14. > :03:17.Rail passengers travelling this bank holiday weekend have been coping

:03:18. > :03:20.with major disruption at six main stations in and out of London.

:03:21. > :03:22.Network Rail is carrying out its biggest ever

:03:23. > :03:26.engineering project, involving 17,000 staff.

:03:27. > :03:29.It means services are terminating in the Home Counties,

:03:30. > :03:31.as tracks are prepared for HS2 and Crossrail.

:03:32. > :03:39.Described as one of the biggest rail shutdowns on an August

:03:40. > :03:44.bank holiday weekend, operators want passengers not

:03:45. > :03:46.to use trains, and it looks like many listened.

:03:47. > :03:49.Despite major engineering works significantly affecting services

:03:50. > :03:54.at stations including London Bridge and Waterloo, and the closure

:03:55. > :03:57.of Euston, though busy, stations like Marylebone

:03:58. > :04:00.and King's Cross appeared to be coping with the extra people

:04:01. > :04:07.Meanwhile in Ingatestone in Essex, where Greater Anglia trains

:04:08. > :04:10.to Liverpool Street stop and start, full use was made of

:04:11. > :04:17.With some work expected to end at stations like here

:04:18. > :04:20.at London Bridge by Tuesday morning's commute, there is a worry

:04:21. > :04:28.We have a very detailed contingency plan to manage all of that.

:04:29. > :04:31.We would know well in advance of that happening and we would know

:04:32. > :04:34.that our customers are well what is happening so that people

:04:35. > :04:35.can make alternative travel arrangements.

:04:36. > :04:42.But I will stress that our contingency plans are very detailed.

:04:43. > :04:44.Now the hope is that passengers would face major delays

:04:45. > :04:52.on their return home and return to work after the long weekend.
