:00:18. > :00:21.This year's Notting Hill Carnival has opened with tributes

:00:22. > :00:23.to the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire.

:00:24. > :00:27.London's Mayor, Sadiq Khan, urged the crowds to keep their thoughts

:00:28. > :00:29.and prayers with those who lost their lives.

:00:30. > :00:31.He also met with survivors and faith leaders.

:00:32. > :00:46.The sun was out and so were the Carnival kings and Queens.

:00:47. > :00:48.Family day at Notting Hill drew the crowds.

:00:49. > :00:51.Great fun, first time we've ever been and I love it.

:00:52. > :00:52.Amazing, it's the best part of the year.

:00:53. > :00:58.Everyone just getting together, a party, it's nice.

:00:59. > :01:00.But in the distance, a tragic reminder of the suffering

:01:01. > :01:12.Earlier in the day, a flock of doves were released in remembrance

:01:13. > :01:14.of those who lost their lives in the Grenfell fire.

:01:15. > :01:18.The Mayor Sadiq Khan joy and religious leaders in prayer.

:01:19. > :01:21.We've had horrific events ten weeks ago at Grenfell Tower.

:01:22. > :01:23.This is a community still grieving, sad and sorrowful but it's important

:01:24. > :01:29.to recognise that many families of the victims of the community work

:01:30. > :01:33.We honour the victims, we will redouble our efforts

:01:34. > :01:36.We want a safe and successful Carnival.

:01:37. > :01:40.Carnival organisers have encouraged people coming here today to wear

:01:41. > :01:42.or accessorize in green for Grenfell as a mark of respect

:01:43. > :01:45.among the partying. Many survivors of the fire

:01:46. > :01:52.It's lovely that so many of them came.

:01:53. > :01:55.A lot of them have not been to the Carnival before and they got

:01:56. > :01:58.a ringside seat and they are having a lovely time.

:01:59. > :02:01.The police presence was the heaviest it has been because of fears

:02:02. > :02:08.A protective ring of steel was placed around the Carnival route.

:02:09. > :02:10.But it didn't seem to dampen spirits.

:02:11. > :02:13.It was really fun and exciting, everyone having a good time.

:02:14. > :02:18.It is really amazing, I did not think it was child

:02:19. > :02:25.This part of west London is still in mourning for those

:02:26. > :02:30.who died in the fire ten weeks ago but today's event proved

:02:31. > :02:32.that the community spirit here and a determination to honour

:02:33. > :02:41.Essex County Council says more than 1,000 calls have been made

:02:42. > :02:44.to a hotline set up for school staff who didn't get paid.

:02:45. > :02:46.Because of an error, 20,000 teachers and support staff,

:02:47. > :02:48.who should have received their monthly salary

:02:49. > :02:51.on Friday, won't get paid until Tuesday.

:02:52. > :02:53.The council's now carrying out a "full audit"

:02:54. > :03:03.It says it's made 100 emergency payments to staff

:03:04. > :03:09.Rail passengers travelling this bank holiday weekend have been coping

:03:10. > :03:12.with major disruption at six main stations in and out of London.

:03:13. > :03:17.Network Rail is carrying out its biggest ever engineering

:03:18. > :03:19.project involving 17,000 staff, costing ?133 million.

:03:20. > :03:21.It's seen the closure of Euston and severe disruption

:03:22. > :03:25.But some services return to nomal tomorrow.

:03:26. > :03:32.Until next Saturday, the 2nd of September,

:03:33. > :03:35.there are no Southeastern services to or from London Bridge,

:03:36. > :03:50.For the Southeastern services that ARE running,

:03:51. > :03:52.they're diverted to other London stations, so Victoria,

:03:53. > :03:54.Cannon Street and Waterloo will be much busier.

:03:55. > :03:56.And at Liverpool Street, due to Crossrail work, there are

:03:57. > :03:58.no trains to and from Shenfield, Ingatestone, Billericay

:03:59. > :04:05.Network Rail say the end is in sight at London Bridge.

:04:06. > :04:12.This is getting to the end of the Thamesling programme, the rebuilding

:04:13. > :04:17.of London Bridge station. This is a critical stage for us, it brings

:04:18. > :04:21.another platform into use at London Bridge and gets us ready for the big

:04:22. > :04:23.final commissioning at Christmas. That takes us to a check on the

:04:24. > :04:32.weather. Blue skies look to last into bank

:04:33. > :04:37.holiday Monday and it could get a touch warmer. Overnight lows around

:04:38. > :04:42.15, 16. Tomorrow plenty of sunshine around

:04:43. > :04:48.from the word go. We could see fair weather cloud but it won't spoil

:04:49. > :04:51.anything. Feeling hot, highs around 28 or 29. But it looks like it'll
