0:00:56 > 0:00:58I looked out and I saw police running here and there,

0:00:59 > 0:01:01and everyone was just gathering.

0:01:01 > 0:01:04You only live a couple of doors down with your family.

0:01:04 > 0:01:07It is scary to think that I could have been

0:01:07 > 0:01:08in there at that time.

0:01:08 > 0:01:09He could have been in there.

0:01:09 > 0:01:13He could have been in the buggy in there and it could have

0:02:31 > 0:02:33over new year after a spate of so-called "key jammer"

0:02:33 > 0:02:34thefts in North London.

0:02:34 > 0:02:37It's thought car thieves are using technology to block

0:02:37 > 0:02:39central locking systems, making it easier to steal from them.

0:02:39 > 0:02:49Charlotte Franks reports.

0:02:51 > 0:02:54This woman has aways been conscious of security when locking her car,

0:03:33 > 0:03:35Both of them were victims of so-called key jamming.

0:03:35 > 0:03:39It's when criminals use a device to block a car's electronic signal

0:03:39 > 0:03:42to stop it from locking.

0:03:42 > 0:03:45Over the last 12 months there's been a spate of key jamming incidents

0:04:01 > 0:04:04But despite this increase the Met Police detection rate has dropped.

0:04:04 > 0:04:08Some of it is down to resourcing and some of it is down to the fact

0:04:08 > 0:04:18there aren't as many opportunities for us to investigate the crime.

0:04:19 > 0:04:22With the crime often committed on residential roads there is less

0:04:24 > 0:04:26forensics opportunities for us to follow up on.

0:04:26 > 0:04:29Police say they are now working with car manufacturers to try

0:04:29 > 0:04:31and develop technology to prevent key jamming, but for now the only

0:04:31 > 0:04:34way to stop yourself becoming a victim is to manually check
