0:00:01 > 0:00:02Goodnight.

0:00:12 > 0:00:13Good evening.

0:00:13 > 0:00:15I'm Asad Ahmad.

0:00:15 > 0:00:17Army veterans have gathered in London, calling for the better

0:00:17 > 0:00:21treatment of service personnel.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23One ex-military Londoner, who survived a bomb attack -

0:00:23 > 0:00:25says it's unfair that some Republican extremists have

0:00:25 > 0:00:27avoided prosecution - while members of the Armed Forces

0:00:27 > 0:00:30are being pursued.

0:00:30 > 0:00:34Here's Sarah Harris.

0:00:34 > 0:00:36It was more than three decades ago that Londoner Steve Sullivan

0:00:36 > 0:00:39survived the blast of an IRA bomb in Hyde Park.

0:00:39 > 0:00:41Today standing shoulder to shoulder with other veterans to ask

0:00:41 > 0:00:50for the alleged bomber to be brought to justice.

0:00:50 > 0:00:53Four soldiers and seven horses were killed by a nail bomb

0:00:53 > 0:00:55as they made their way to the changing of the guard

0:00:56 > 0:00:57ceremony in 1982.

0:00:57 > 0:00:58Steve and his horse led the way.

0:00:58 > 0:01:00I've never seen anything like it in my life.

0:01:00 > 0:01:01There was blood everywhere.

0:01:01 > 0:01:04And the fire is one thing that sticks in my mind.

0:01:04 > 0:01:08I didn't know what to do so I just got down on one knee and started

0:01:08 > 0:01:12stroking the horse's head.

0:01:12 > 0:01:15Families and veterans gathered in Whitehall believe

0:01:15 > 0:01:22members of the Armed Forces are being unfairly prosecuted

0:01:22 > 0:01:24for killings during the Troubles where some Republicans remain

0:01:24 > 0:01:25unpunished.

0:01:25 > 0:01:28Despite the perception of bias from people here,

0:01:28 > 0:01:33police figures show that in fact the vast majority of legacy cases

0:01:33 > 0:01:36cases they are looking into were concerning Republicans.

0:01:36 > 0:01:38Some people say the best memorial is the peace process,

0:01:38 > 0:01:40isn't it time to let it go?

0:01:40 > 0:01:41That would be great.

0:01:41 > 0:01:44If you drew a line in the sand so to speak and said, look,

0:01:44 > 0:01:46it's all water under the bridge, we will forgive and

0:01:46 > 0:01:47forget, simple as that.

0:01:47 > 0:01:50There are children who don't have dads now, haven't got mums.

0:01:50 > 0:01:59They need some form of justice.

0:01:59 > 0:02:03Proud of their years of service, many don't want to see anyone

0:02:03 > 0:02:06jailed, but want some sort of justice for the friends they lost

0:02:06 > 0:02:11and protection for those they argue were just doing their jobs.

0:02:11 > 0:02:13Sarah Harris, BBC London News.

0:02:13 > 0:02:17Four years after a former UN Peacekeeper suffered

0:02:17 > 0:02:18a catastrophic stroke - doctors from the 'National

0:02:18 > 0:02:20Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery' in London -

0:02:20 > 0:02:23have spoken of how they helped Richard Gray -

0:02:23 > 0:02:25although he lost a section of his skull.

0:02:25 > 0:02:28Mr Gray from Kent, had his recovery filmed by his wife, who's

0:02:28 > 0:02:29a documentary film maker.

0:02:29 > 0:02:37Fiona Irving went to meet them.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40Now Richard, what you want basically it's just a trim up, is it?

0:02:40 > 0:02:42A huge haemorrhage on his brain left Richard Gray fighting

0:02:42 > 0:02:45for his life in 2013.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48He underwent an emergency craniotomy to release the pressure

0:02:48 > 0:02:52that was building up.

0:02:52 > 0:02:56Often there were moments when it was very shocking

0:02:56 > 0:02:58and it was difficult, but however difficult it was for me

0:02:58 > 0:03:01I knew it wasn't nearly as difficult as it was for Richard

0:03:01 > 0:03:03because getting better is really hard work.

0:03:03 > 0:03:06Hard work is tough.

0:03:06 > 0:03:08Richard was a UN peacekeeper.

0:03:08 > 0:03:10He started to get some movement in his arm.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13And we were able to take advantage of that, and really try and work

0:03:13 > 0:03:16hard with him on his arm, getting him to use it

0:03:16 > 0:03:17to become more independent.

0:03:17 > 0:03:19Recovery does not happen by getting new brain cells,

0:03:19 > 0:03:26recovery happens by reorganising the surviving parts of the brain.

0:03:26 > 0:03:28Four years of hard work and Richard has made remarkable improvements.

0:03:28 > 0:03:31Surpassing many expectations that he would ever be able to walk

0:03:31 > 0:03:38or communicate again.

0:03:38 > 0:03:41His speech is still improving and I think that's another really

0:03:41 > 0:03:43important thing to point to, bring across.

0:03:43 > 0:03:46Its four and a half years after his stroke and he's still improving.

0:03:46 > 0:03:47You're able to improve your speech.

0:03:47 > 0:03:48It always comes on.

0:03:48 > 0:03:51Years saying you things almost every day aren't you?

0:03:51 > 0:03:52Keeping on.

0:03:52 > 0:03:53We're going to keep working.

0:03:53 > 0:03:54We will, yes, we will.

0:03:54 > 0:03:55Absolutely.

0:03:55 > 0:04:05We have to.

0:04:05 > 0:04:07And you can see 'My Amazing Brain; Richard's War' -

0:04:12 > 0:04:15ten dates of the European leg of her tour - including her gig

0:04:15 > 0:04:18at London's O2 tomorrow night - due to ill health.

0:04:18 > 0:04:20She's tweeted that "she's devastated" -

0:04:20 > 0:04:24as are her fans who've come from far and wide to see her here.

0:04:24 > 0:04:27Mad at first, because I spent a lot of money in this trip.

0:04:27 > 0:04:32But after I was thinking, I mean, she has

0:04:32 > 0:04:35fibromyalgia, so it's not her fault.

0:04:35 > 0:04:38I have to see her.

0:04:38 > 0:04:42I saved money all of the year for this.

0:04:42 > 0:04:45I don't blame her, but, the same way, it hurts so

0:04:45 > 0:04:46much.

0:04:46 > 0:04:47Now the weather.

0:04:47 > 0:04:51And it's going to be a cold night - and watch out for ice in places.

0:04:51 > 0:04:53There's also an a warning of snow late tomorrow -

0:04:53 > 0:04:54and into Monday morning.
