0:00:00 > 0:00:13Now on BBC One, it's time for the news where you are.
0:00:13 > 0:00:15Good evening, I'm Asad Ahmad.
0:00:16 > 0:00:21A Muslim Centre in west London which opened its doors to victims
0:00:21 > 0:00:24of the Grenfell Tower fire hours after the blaze in June,
0:00:24 > 0:00:26and continues to offer support to local people,
0:00:26 > 0:00:30opened its doors to the general public today,
0:00:30 > 0:00:33to let them see what goes on inside.
0:00:33 > 0:00:35The Mayor of London also popped in, and welcomed the initiative
0:00:35 > 0:00:38which he said was a good way for Londoners to get
0:00:38 > 0:00:39to know their neighbours.
0:00:39 > 0:00:49Helen Drew was also there.
0:00:50 > 0:00:53It's not every day you'd see this in a mosque,
0:00:53 > 0:00:54but today is Visit My Mosque Day.
0:00:54 > 0:00:57The Al Manaar Mosque in west London opened its doors.
0:00:57 > 0:00:59One of their many visitors was the Mayor.
0:00:59 > 0:01:00Fantastic, outstanding.
0:01:00 > 0:01:02I think there is a lot of questions non-Muslims have.
0:01:02 > 0:01:07I think there is a perception that something quite unusual goes
0:01:07 > 0:01:09on behind the doors of a mosque.
0:01:09 > 0:01:11I think it's fantastic that mosques open their doors to show
0:01:11 > 0:01:12they're an open community.
0:01:12 > 0:01:15One of the great things about London is we don't simply
0:01:15 > 0:01:16tolerate difference, we respect it, we celebrate
0:01:17 > 0:01:21it and we embrace it.
0:01:21 > 0:01:24I think Visit My Mosque Day is a good way to take
0:01:24 > 0:01:26a leap forward, to get to know our neighbours even more.
0:01:26 > 0:01:29Over 50 mosques in the London area joined in today's open day.
0:01:29 > 0:01:34It's not just about opening their doors on one particular day.
0:01:34 > 0:01:36This mosque played a key role after Grenfell.
0:01:36 > 0:01:38They opened their doors to everyone, they took food parcels in,
0:01:38 > 0:01:41piling them up in all the rooms, and providing shelter.
0:01:41 > 0:01:44What we say, every day of the year is an open day for us,
0:01:44 > 0:01:47because we are open seven days a week and everyone can walk
0:01:47 > 0:01:50in and ask for any service or information they want.
0:01:50 > 0:01:53But we also feel we should do even more, in terms of raising awareness
0:01:53 > 0:01:57about Muslims and the faith itself and the mosque.
0:01:57 > 0:02:03And this certainly appealed to other faith leaders in the borough.
0:02:03 > 0:02:06I think for any of the faith communities, to invite other people
0:02:06 > 0:02:09to come in and share and learn is always going to be
0:02:09 > 0:02:10helpful and positive.
0:02:10 > 0:02:13It's a good thing for the whole of our community, to learn
0:02:13 > 0:02:15about more each other and I welcome it wholeheartedly.
0:02:15 > 0:02:17So much so, that he's now planning an open day
0:02:17 > 0:02:19for his Notting Hill Church.
0:02:19 > 0:02:21The open day for mosques is in its fourth year,

0:02:34 > 0:02:36on Logan Place in Kensington.
0:02:36 > 0:02:39He died at the scene, making him the fifth teenager to die
0:02:39 > 0:02:41from a knife wound in London this year.

0:02:44 > 0:02:48Children in the most deprived areas of London are the most likely
0:02:48 > 0:02:52to be obese by the time they leave primary school.
0:02:52 > 0:02:56The figures have led to a dedicated task force being established
0:02:56 > 0:02:58to tackle the problem, which is worst in Barking
0:02:58 > 0:03:00and Dagenham in east London.
0:03:00 > 0:03:02Tolu Adeoye has been to the area, where some children
0:03:02 > 0:03:05told her their favourite foods.
0:03:05 > 0:03:06Ice cream and sausages.
0:03:06 > 0:03:08McDonald's and KFC.
0:03:08 > 0:03:13Pizza, lasagne and pancakes.
0:03:14 > 0:03:19It may taste good, but too much of some of what our children love
0:03:19 > 0:03:22to eat is putting them above recommended healthy weight
0:03:22 > 0:03:27ranges, and the problem of childhood obesity is getting bigger in London.
0:03:27 > 0:03:30At this group promoting healthy eating and exercise in Romford,
0:03:30 > 0:03:32children and parents told me the challenges they can face
0:03:32 > 0:03:34when trying to be healthier.
0:03:34 > 0:03:37Do you find it difficult as a parent to say no?
0:03:37 > 0:03:41It is difficult, because it's advertised and it's out
0:03:41 > 0:03:43there and it's quite easy for children to get.
0:03:43 > 0:03:47The most food that we can get access to is usually junk
0:03:47 > 0:03:50food, crisps and stuff.
0:03:50 > 0:03:57I do mainly African food, that is not really helping my weight.
0:03:57 > 0:04:00Because of the kind of food I'm brought up to eat,
0:04:00 > 0:04:02that is what I know and that is what I would
0:04:02 > 0:04:05introduce to my children, so it's a bit difficult.
0:04:05 > 0:04:08City Hall wants to reverse the trend.
0:04:08 > 0:04:11The search is now on for someone to lead a new panel of experts
0:04:11 > 0:04:14looking at ways to reduce the rates.
0:04:14 > 0:04:21Figures show nearly 40% of children aged ten and 11 in the capital
0:04:21 > 0:04:23are classed as overweight or obese, with weights the highest
0:04:23 > 0:04:25in the most deprived areas.
0:04:25 > 0:04:27In Barking and Dagenham, 44% of Year 6 pupils
0:04:27 > 0:04:28are overweight or obese, compared to Richmond,
0:04:29 > 0:04:32which is the lowest at 25%.
0:04:32 > 0:04:36It's bigger than all of us, but what we can do here,
0:04:36 > 0:04:39as an individual council, is our bit for our local community.
0:04:39 > 0:04:42But I think there are going to need to be lots more joined up thinking,

0:05:20 > 0:05:21The lowest of tomorrow morning's temperatures out
0:05:21 > 0:05:24towards eastern areas, 2-3dC.
0:05:24 > 0:05:28A misty murky Monday morning, very great, some thick cloud, outbreaks
0:05:28 > 0:05:34of rhythm when very little in the way a brightness, 10-11dC. Further
0:05:34 > 0:05:39outbreaks of rain likely on Tuesday. From Wednesday onwards, looking
0:05:39 > 0:05:42drive and it will become colder as we head through the week with maybe
0:05:42 > 0:05:44a chilly easterly wind.
0:05:44 > 0:05:45That's it.
