0:00:00 > 0:00:13That's all from me, stay with us on BBC1 -

0:00:13 > 0:00:16Good evening, I'm Asad Ahmad. stay with us on BBC1 -

0:00:16 > 0:00:19A new offence of "Causing Death by Dangerous Cycling" could be

0:00:19 > 0:00:21recommended by Ministers as early as next week.

0:00:21 > 0:00:22A review into current road safety legislation,

0:00:22 > 0:00:25follows the death of a mother, killed by a cyclist with no

0:00:25 > 0:00:27front brakes, in east London, two years ago.

0:00:27 > 0:00:36Emma North can tell us more.

0:00:36 > 0:00:39Kim Briggs was on her lunch break in East London

0:00:39 > 0:00:41when she was knocked over by a cyclist.

0:00:41 > 0:00:50She died one week later.

0:00:50 > 0:00:53The man who hit her was Charlie Alliston and whose bicycle

0:00:53 > 0:00:56had fixed wheels and no front brake, which is illegal on Britain's roads.

0:00:56 > 0:00:58He was found guilty of an offence from the 18 hundredths

0:00:58 > 0:01:00and was jailed for 18 months.

0:01:00 > 0:01:02Today her widower said he had no official word

0:01:02 > 0:01:05of what the government plans work, but in the past he said his wife's

0:01:05 > 0:01:07death has exposed a gap in the law.

0:01:07 > 0:01:10What I want is for the police and the CPS, because this

0:01:10 > 0:01:13probably will happen again, to have a coherent law to be able

0:01:13 > 0:01:18to reach for in the future.

0:01:18 > 0:01:21Later this week, the government is expected to announce that

0:01:21 > 0:01:23cyclists who kill pedestrians could be charged under a new law

0:01:23 > 0:01:25similar to causing death by dangerous driving and that

0:01:25 > 0:01:27carries a life sentence.

0:01:27 > 0:01:30The government says this review will deal with all aspects of cycle

0:01:30 > 0:01:32safety including a possible law to deal with cyclist

0:01:32 > 0:01:39who kill pedestrians.

0:01:39 > 0:01:41But some campaign group say this is simply not enough.

0:01:42 > 0:01:43They are tinkering around the edges.

0:01:43 > 0:01:46We were promised a review in 2014 of all road traffic offences

0:01:46 > 0:01:50and we are still waiting for it and now we have a limited review

0:01:50 > 0:01:51just of cycling offences.

0:01:51 > 0:01:55The review is due at the end of this week.

0:01:55 > 0:02:00More than 20,000 homes in London are without water tonight.

0:02:00 > 0:02:03Lorry loads of bottles have been handed out by Thames Water

0:02:03 > 0:02:11to customers in areas from north London to south.

0:02:11 > 0:02:13The company says it's experiencing "exceptionally high levels

0:02:13 > 0:02:15of demand", due to multiple bursts, and an increase in leaks.

0:02:15 > 0:02:17All households in London are being asked to use

0:02:17 > 0:02:19as "little water as possible".

0:02:19 > 0:02:26This is what a resident in south London told us tonight.

0:02:26 > 0:02:29Obviously you can't shower, we can't use our toilets, we can't wash up

0:02:29 > 0:02:34our dishes, we can't wash any clothes. We found the water was off

0:02:34 > 0:02:37yesterday. We hoped it would be back on this morning, which was not the

0:02:37 > 0:02:43case. It just seems like there isn't an end in sight at the moment and we

0:02:43 > 0:02:46just want some information on when we might get some water back.

0:02:46 > 0:02:48Thousands of women - but not just women -

0:02:48 > 0:02:51marched through central London today, to mark International Women's

0:02:51 > 0:02:52Day, and call for gender equality.

0:02:52 > 0:02:55Also at the march was a descendent of one of the most famous

0:02:55 > 0:02:56suffragettes of all time.

0:02:56 > 0:03:01Adina Campbell has this report.

0:03:01 > 0:03:02Adina Campbell has this report.

0:03:02 > 0:03:05Holding banners and placards, campaigners were keen to spread

0:03:05 > 0:03:10their support for gender equality, with help from the

0:03:10 > 0:03:12great-granddaughter of Emmeline Pankhurst, who co-founded the

0:03:12 > 0:03:18suffragette movement in the early 20th century.I think she would be

0:03:18 > 0:03:21enjoying this, she would be saying it is rarely important you are still

0:03:21 > 0:03:25doing it, here we are using the deeds not words look and is. These

0:03:25 > 0:03:31were the slogans of the day. Today it's time's up and me too. She would

0:03:31 > 0:03:34recognise all of that, she would be saying keep going and use more

0:03:34 > 0:03:39traditional forms such as marchers, and modern ones such as Twitter and

0:03:39 > 0:03:43social media. There are still a lot to be done. I think she would be

0:03:43 > 0:03:47voting us forwards, not backwards. Today's's rally has gained

0:03:47 > 0:03:51widespread support from London Mayor Sadiq Khan to Welsh actor and

0:03:51 > 0:03:55activist Michael Sheen. There is clearly a moment going on but we

0:03:55 > 0:03:58have to make sure it is not just a moment, that it is ongoing forever,

0:03:58 > 0:04:01and men have to stand up and show their solidarity with women. It is

0:04:01 > 0:04:06not just a win in's issue, it is about having a more fair and equal

0:04:06 > 0:04:11society, which everyone benefits from.It may be more than 100 years

0:04:11 > 0:04:16since some women were given the right to vote, but many still feel

0:04:16 > 0:04:18gender equality is still a long way.

0:04:18 > 0:04:20Now the weather forecast for tonight, and the start of the week.

0:04:24 > 0:04:28It will turn even milder next week, we start off tomorrow between two

0:04:28 > 0:04:31and four Celsius but watch out for a bit of patchy frost. The best of the

0:04:31 > 0:04:34sunshine will be through the morning but then the cloud will increase,

0:04:34 > 0:04:38still some bright and sunny spells in the afternoon. The chance of one

0:04:38 > 0:04:42or two showers toward central and western areas but mostly dry, top

0:04:42 > 0:04:46temperatures of ten and 11 Celsius. That is where they will tend to stay

0:04:46 > 0:04:50on Tuesday morning. More widespread showers through the working week.

0:04:50 > 0:04:52That's it from the BBC London weekend team for tonight.

0:04:52 > 0:04:54We're back from 6.30 tomorrow morning.

0:04:54 > 0:04:56I hope you have a very good night.
