:00:06. > :00:14.In Look East tonight: A reward of three thousand pounds is on offer

:00:14. > :00:19.to help find the attacker who raped a schoolgirl. We feel that this

:00:19. > :00:25.reward could encourage someone to come forward with vital information.

:00:25. > :00:30.Hello from Susie and me. Also tonight: Stansted Airport goes

:00:30. > :00:32.on terrorist alert in readiness for the real thing.

:00:32. > :00:36.A police officer is among the injured after a stabbing incident

:00:36. > :00:46.in Ipswich. And the Over 55s are told, "get

:00:46. > :00:53.

:00:53. > :00:56.Hello. The charity Crimestoppers took the unusual step today of

:00:56. > :01:02.offering a big reward to help find the attacker who raped a 14-year-

:01:02. > :01:06.old girl in Southend. The attack happened in Southend

:01:06. > :01:09.last year. So far nobody has been charged. During the incident the

:01:10. > :01:12.girl was dragged into an alley and raped. She lost consciousness and

:01:12. > :01:15.the man got away. Today, Crimestoppers offered a reward of

:01:15. > :01:25.3,000 pounds for information leading to the arrest and

:01:25. > :01:25.

:01:25. > :01:30.conviction of the rapist. She was walking home from score

:01:31. > :01:36.along East Street more than a year ago. The World Cup was on and pubs

:01:36. > :01:41.busy. An attacker emerged from postman's alleyway. The manager

:01:41. > :01:46.appeared to have been drinking said hello to the Gulf. She ignored him,

:01:46. > :01:51.walked on and then he dragged her into the alleyway and put his hand

:01:51. > :01:58.over her mouth and attacked her. The girl lost consciousness, when

:01:58. > :02:02.she came round he had gone. She kept her secret until May this year.

:02:02. > :02:07.We can only imagine the pressure she must have gone there at such a

:02:07. > :02:12.young age. Also to then come forward and have the courage to

:02:12. > :02:17.come to us. It is not easy for anyone of any age, but for a 14

:02:17. > :02:22.year-old, I commend her. suspect was wearing a black jumper,

:02:22. > :02:29.dog jogging bottoms and white trainers. Police appeals have so

:02:29. > :02:34.far drawn a blank. Crimestoppers today offered an award of up to at

:02:34. > :02:38.3,000 for information leading to the arrest. One may call, we do not

:02:38. > :02:42.ask for their name, personal details, we do not track or trace

:02:42. > :02:46.calls and they will not have to go to the police will give a statement

:02:46. > :02:51.in court. They are some of the big reasons why some people would

:02:51. > :02:55.rather come to us than the police. A year on, do you think you could

:02:55. > :03:00.unlock this case? Crimestoppers are now getting involved and offering

:03:00. > :03:05.an award of up to 3,000 because we feel that this reward could

:03:05. > :03:10.encourage someone to come forward with information, but more

:03:10. > :03:14.importantly, it is the anonymity that we can guarantee.

:03:14. > :03:18.Crimestoppers say rape in their area are incredibly rare. They are

:03:18. > :03:22.hoping what happened here to have frightened young girl will persuade

:03:22. > :03:25.people to pick up the phone. And if you have information which

:03:25. > :03:30.you think could help the police, you can ring Crimestoppers, The

:03:30. > :03:34.number is 0800 555 111. And remember, you don't have to give

:03:34. > :03:38.your name if you don't want to. There's a question mark tonight

:03:38. > :03:40.over the future of several nightclubs across the region. The

:03:40. > :03:47.Luminar Group which owns four Liquid clubs, Lava Ignite, Oceana

:03:47. > :03:49.and Project in this region, has been forced into administration.

:03:49. > :03:53.The company, is based in Milton Keynes, and has been struggling

:03:53. > :03:57.with financial problems. Last week, a female student was crushed to

:03:57. > :04:06.death at Lava Ignite in Northampton. Stuart Ratcliffe has been following

:04:06. > :04:14.the story - he's in Northampton now. Liam L is the biggest nightclub

:04:14. > :04:19.owner in their UK and is also the owner of Lava Ignite in Northampton.

:04:19. > :04:24.Last month a student at the University of Northampton died. She

:04:24. > :04:29.along with hundreds of others was attending a club night up Lava

:04:29. > :04:33.Ignite. Northamptonshire police are investigating what happened, but

:04:33. > :04:40.there are reports that a fire alarm Saint revellers Russian for their

:04:40. > :04:43.exit. Another woman remains in a critical condition in less than

:04:43. > :04:51.under a third woman was released from Northampton General Hospital

:04:51. > :04:56.yesterday. The parent company, we believe, has had financial

:04:56. > :05:01.difficulties for some time. It recorded losses of up to 198

:05:01. > :05:05.million and sales dropped 90%. In a previous interview, the company

:05:05. > :05:10.said its core market has been challenged with unemployment so we

:05:10. > :05:15.manage to look at expanding our democratic. Today we understand

:05:15. > :05:21.that financial backers would not extend a period of leniency which

:05:21. > :05:24.was due to end tomorrow. The company said it had no option but

:05:24. > :05:29.to call in administrators and suspended its shares with immediate

:05:29. > :05:36.effect. Every major town and city in the country has a club owned by

:05:36. > :05:41.this company. We believe the administrators will try to sell the

:05:41. > :05:44.business and if not, it will sell off individual parts of the company

:05:44. > :05:48.so the outlook for staff in this region is not clear.

:05:48. > :05:50.It's been revealed today that half the police who took part in a major

:05:50. > :05:53.drugs raid were special constables, The teams raided addresses in

:05:53. > :06:03.Stevenage, Luton and Hitchin, They seized crack cocaine and cannabis,

:06:03. > :06:08.

:06:08. > :06:13.as well as a large quantity of cash. Fae Southwell reports. Six raids at

:06:13. > :06:19.six addresses in Hitchin, Luton and Stevenage. Police are looking for

:06:19. > :06:25.Class A drugs and evidence of drug dealing. He was putting them in his

:06:25. > :06:28.mother as we entered. The raids are being carried out by the serious

:06:28. > :06:32.organised crime group and for the first time in this scale of

:06:32. > :06:38.operation, are police special constables. Nearly half of the

:06:38. > :06:42.officers here today on unpaid volunteers. I feel very useful. In

:06:42. > :06:48.the briefing before coming out, they emphasise that without as

:06:48. > :06:54.helping, it would not have gone ahead today. I still feel I had a

:06:54. > :06:57.vital role. This is the changing face of Hertfordshire police. In

:06:57. > :07:02.the next 12 months the police is looking to recruit more special

:07:02. > :07:07.constables. Because there are cuts in the police force, they are

:07:07. > :07:13.trying to build up the Specials. People will be looking more to the

:07:13. > :07:17.Specials to help out. Things like rape and missing person, we can be

:07:18. > :07:23.on the ground quickly and turn things around. High-visibility

:07:23. > :07:27.patrols, be out there in the public, it is very good at the moment.

:07:27. > :07:31.Senior officers say they are giving special constables extra

:07:31. > :07:39.opportunities and there is always the chance of a paid Korea, but how

:07:39. > :07:44.do they answer criticism that they are exploiting three Labour? It is

:07:44. > :07:47.an opportunity to use them, I am not exploiting them. We canvassed

:07:47. > :07:53.all our specials and 28 came today's saying they want to help

:07:53. > :07:57.out. The police service have to look at other ways to support their

:07:57. > :08:05.day-to-day service and specials are valuable commodity. Police say

:08:05. > :08:08.today's raids were a success. Five people have been arrested.

:08:08. > :08:12.Osama Bin Laden may be dead, but the security threat in the UK is

:08:12. > :08:14.still considered to be a high risk. The official threat level is

:08:14. > :08:20.described as "substantial", meaning a terrorist attack is still a

:08:20. > :08:23.strong possibility. That's one reason that staff at Stansted

:08:23. > :08:33.Airport and the emergency services have been finding out how ready

:08:33. > :08:42.

:08:42. > :08:47.A passenger plane has been diverted to Stansted, a member of the crew

:08:47. > :08:54.is creating a disturbance on board and the emergency services have

:08:54. > :08:59.been alerted. Can we confirm that those unconscious a the same as

:08:59. > :09:04.reported earlier? This is exercise orange, part of a government

:09:04. > :09:07.programme to prepare for a nuclear attack and today, men from the

:09:07. > :09:13.Office of security and counter- terrorism work keeping a close eye

:09:13. > :09:18.on events. We are looking to see how well these guys work together.

:09:18. > :09:24.I am one of the evaluate us and this is exactly what we are doing.

:09:24. > :09:29.The crew member has thrown a white powder around the cabin. Five

:09:29. > :09:34.passengers are feared dead. Because we have casualties on board, we are

:09:34. > :09:38.moving forward so if anyone comes off in the short term we can do

:09:38. > :09:47.emergency decontamination and then we have a facility to set up a mass

:09:47. > :09:52.area where we have hot showers. over there and follow instructions!

:09:52. > :09:55.The passengers played by students leave the plane and are asked to

:09:55. > :10:01.change into soups. Changing out of close which may have been

:10:01. > :10:05.contaminated. Some passengers are complaining of

:10:05. > :10:12.feeling unwell, but they are showered down and get the treatment

:10:12. > :10:17.they need. It is chaotic, but it would be in real life. What have

:10:17. > :10:20.you found that today? Communication has to be very clear and it is

:10:21. > :10:24.difficult to speak to three people at once. It is a really good to

:10:24. > :10:29.communicate with our partners because we do not work with them

:10:29. > :10:36.like this often. This exercise was designed in part to reassure the

:10:36. > :10:39.public. Emergency services are keen to assure that such events are

:10:39. > :10:43.extremely were rare, but if the worst does happen, they will be

:10:43. > :10:45.ready. Later in Look East - a new

:10:45. > :10:49.initiative to persuade the Over 55s to get online.

:10:49. > :10:53.And if you are among our Hindu and Sikh viewers, we would like to wish

:10:54. > :11:03.you a happy Diwali. These are just some of the celebrations in

:11:03. > :11:06.In the past hour, the police have named an officer who was stabbed in

:11:06. > :11:09.Ipswich during a call out last night. PC Steven Jay was treated in

:11:09. > :11:19.hospital after the attack, in which his dog and another man were also

:11:19. > :11:20.

:11:20. > :11:25.stabbed. A man was arrested Nacton Road just after 8pm.

:11:25. > :11:30.Instead of being on the streets today, a PC Stephen Jay has been at

:11:30. > :11:36.home recovering. Last night he was the victim of a knife attack. Along

:11:36. > :11:40.with his police dog. RM glad to say that the police

:11:40. > :11:46.start has been treated by the vet. He has also been released and is

:11:46. > :11:51.back home. Before PC j was heard, another man was stabbed at this

:11:51. > :11:58.house at around 8pm. Neighbours have told Look East they believe it

:11:58. > :12:04.may have been a domestic incident. I first heard a lot of shouting and

:12:04. > :12:08.somebody shouting very angrily. Then, after a few minutes, a load

:12:08. > :12:15.of police cars turned up and they were also shouting and chasing

:12:15. > :12:20.somebody up the road. The people over the road are extremely quiet,

:12:20. > :12:24.nice people. I cannot believe anything happened. It was here

:12:24. > :12:30.where a suspect was challenged and PC Stephen Jay and his dog received

:12:30. > :12:37.a number of knife wounds. At 21 year-old man was then arrested.

:12:37. > :12:40.Today he has been in custody. A woman was taken to hospital and

:12:40. > :12:43.six people have had be rehomed after a second arson attack in a

:12:43. > :12:50.Peterborough Street in less than a week. The fire broke out this

:12:50. > :12:55.morning, police are appealing for witnesses. What is left of the

:12:55. > :13:00.front door of the home. Six people were living here, one had to jump

:13:00. > :13:06.from an upstairs window and neighbours braved life gas pipes to

:13:06. > :13:11.help. We went round and try to put the fire out, but it was too big by

:13:11. > :13:17.that point. We were trying to buy some time until the firefighters

:13:17. > :13:23.arrived to put it out, but it was a big, big fire. We realise that the

:13:23. > :13:28.main gas pipe was connected down in the cupboard at that set alight and

:13:28. > :13:33.it was glowing bright red. This fire started in a bin store. It is

:13:33. > :13:42.a second time people have been renamed in one week. The latest

:13:42. > :13:49.fire comes days after another arson attack in a neighbouring street.

:13:49. > :13:53.can understand why the public would be concerned for -- are concerned

:13:53. > :13:58.about the arson, however the investigation at this stage is too

:13:58. > :14:02.early to suggest a link. We are doing everything we can to prevent

:14:03. > :14:06.another are some. Police say eyewitness accounts are critical to

:14:06. > :14:09.find out what happened. The fire service in Cambridgeshire

:14:09. > :14:14.and Suffolk, say people should not be worried about response times,

:14:14. > :14:19.now their 999 calls are being answered from a merged control room.

:14:19. > :14:28.So far 50 emergency calls have been answered, without any problems. The

:14:28. > :14:32.unions were worried about local knowledge being lost.

:14:32. > :14:37.I understand concerns. A lot of that stems from the lack of

:14:37. > :14:42.knowledge of how a control centre functions. The first thing we do

:14:42. > :14:46.with a call is much their address on to come up. We did that

:14:46. > :14:49.immediately and get the location and then send fire fighters

:14:49. > :14:52.immediately. The system is very advanced.

:14:52. > :14:55.MPs from this region have criticised the BBC for planning

:14:55. > :14:58.cuts to local radio. They've been taking part in a special debate

:14:58. > :15:01.today in Parliament. It follows the announcement of job cuts in local

:15:01. > :15:09.radio. There are moves to increase the number of regional programmes

:15:09. > :15:13.to help the BBC deal with a funding shortfall.

:15:13. > :15:19.This is symptomatic, this proposal to cut at the grass roots while

:15:19. > :15:24.paying huge salaries to director general and other fat cats. My

:15:24. > :15:28.constituency would be bemused to hear that the public sector

:15:28. > :15:30.organisation continues indulge in this.

:15:30. > :15:35.In the football last night, Colchester drew 1-1 with Bournmouth

:15:35. > :15:37.in League One thanks to a late own goal by Zubar. In League Two,

:15:37. > :15:45.Southend stretched their unbeaten run to 9 games, beating 10-man

:15:45. > :15:48.Barnet by three goals to nil. Ryan Hall opened the scoring, after

:15:48. > :15:51.controlling the ball on his chest. Bilel Mohsni tapped in the second,

:15:51. > :15:55.just before half-time, and Neil Harris made it three in the second

:15:55. > :15:58.half. Southend are currently second in the table in league two, just

:15:58. > :16:01.behind Crawley Town. When people sat down to watch the

:16:01. > :16:05.Queen's coronation almost 60 years ago, their television sets were a

:16:05. > :16:07.far cry from the hi-tech screens we have today. And while most of us

:16:07. > :16:17.enjoy the crystal clear pictures and numerous channels, there's a

:16:17. > :16:23.growing interest now in vintage televisions.

:16:23. > :16:28.Rob Howard loves tinkering with old TV's. At his workshop in Norwich,

:16:29. > :16:34.he breathes new life into old black-and-white televisions.

:16:34. > :16:42.This is a Bush TV 22 from the early 1950s, but the transmitters it used

:16:42. > :16:49.to pick up were switched of decades ago. There is the test channel that

:16:49. > :16:54.BBC has used fought many years. make it usable, Rob fits the

:16:54. > :16:58.converter allowing it to pick up to day's transmissions. I remember

:16:58. > :17:03.being a lad and being in the garage and my dad was into it and little

:17:03. > :17:08.bit so there were always transistors kicking about. I

:17:08. > :17:13.remember fixing things at school. My ambition was to have a radio

:17:13. > :17:23.shop, so I tried it and 10 years down the line we are still here.

:17:23. > :17:30.is not just televisions. Wireless sets get the same treatment. Lovely

:17:30. > :17:36.wooden cabinet, huge loudspeaker. As well as doing them up to sell,

:17:36. > :17:44.Rob hires them up. All of them were used in a recent BBC drama. They

:17:44. > :17:50.love having their cassettes working. Working amid the smell of hot Wells,

:17:50. > :17:57.you will not be surprised by robs you on up-to-date equipment. Modern

:17:57. > :18:07.plasma televisions, I do not think you can be the picture of a CRT.

:18:07. > :18:08.

:18:08. > :18:10.After almost five months on the front line over Libya, attacking

:18:10. > :18:14.key military targets, Apache Helicopter crews have returned to

:18:14. > :18:17.their base at Wattisham Airfield in Suffolk. Tomorrow, partly in

:18:17. > :18:26.recognition of their role in Afghanistan and in Libya, they will

:18:26. > :18:31.receive four international aviation awards.

:18:31. > :18:36.The enemy call it the mosquito, the big stick and the sky. Allied

:18:36. > :18:41.troops had no qualms when they see it rise above the horizon. Since

:18:41. > :18:46.June, this squadron has had a change in horizon, but with the

:18:46. > :18:51.civil war in Libya over, they have returned to Southwark.

:18:51. > :18:55.You flu some of those missions, how intense did it get? There was a

:18:55. > :19:01.threat against us, but as you can see, this aircraft can deal with

:19:01. > :19:06.pretty much anything and we receive no damage.

:19:06. > :19:12.Today the icing on the cake, Wattisham has won a clutch of

:19:12. > :19:16.international awards. For the Apache forced to collect

:19:16. > :19:21.for at the 25 awards is quite an achievement when you bear in mind

:19:21. > :19:25.this is the equivalent of the Oscars with nominations from cruise

:19:25. > :19:30.all over the world. When someone goes to the Palace to

:19:30. > :19:34.receive a knighthood or a medal from the Queen, these sorts of

:19:34. > :19:40.awards being presented tomorrow night are the next level down from

:19:40. > :19:46.that in the views of the country. We recognise that it is our year

:19:46. > :19:49.because we have been doing the Afghanistan and bit since 2006

:19:49. > :19:54.animal called to go on a Mediterranean cruise this summer.

:19:54. > :19:58.There is an extra storey to tell and that has helped us. With their

:19:58. > :20:06.most famous pilots undergoing training before a deployment

:20:06. > :20:09.Afghanistan, Wattisham a patchy's are likely to take up highlight for

:20:09. > :20:13.some time yet. A survey of the nation's computer

:20:13. > :20:16.skills has revealed that more than four in ten adults aged over 55 are

:20:16. > :20:19.unable to use a computer. It's prompted a campaign to get more of

:20:19. > :20:23.them online. The figure is a bit better in this

:20:23. > :20:26.region, but a third of people over the age of 55 don't know how to get

:20:26. > :20:30.on the internet. A new campaign called 'Give An Hour' wants to get

:20:30. > :20:32.more people using the web. It has the backing of the BBC and

:20:32. > :20:41.employers who say most jobs now require some element of computer

:20:41. > :20:46.skill. Teresa will son is hoping that

:20:46. > :20:51.learning to use the internet will get her a job. The 60 year-old left

:20:51. > :20:56.her last job 18 months ago to look after her father. He died earlier

:20:56. > :20:59.this year and now Theresa is looking to get back into work. She

:20:59. > :21:04.admits her knowledge of the internet is sketchy so she is doing

:21:04. > :21:10.a course. I was very nervous getting on there. You do worry. You

:21:10. > :21:15.realise it is only a machine, but you are afraid of it. I am more

:21:15. > :21:21.confident now. Lots of older people never go near the internet. Across

:21:21. > :21:28.the UK, 42% of adults aged 55 and over have never used the internet.

:21:29. > :21:37.In this region it is a bit better at 37%. The most aware are in beds,

:21:37. > :21:42.Herts, Bucks and Essex. The least aware are in Norfolk and Suffolk.

:21:42. > :21:46.25% of jobs need internet skills and another 50%, people are more

:21:46. > :21:51.likely to get that job if they had internet skills so that is a

:21:51. > :21:57.staggering number. In addition, you are more likely to find work if you

:21:57. > :22:00.are online. This recruitment Consultants says computer skills

:22:01. > :22:07.are essential if older candidates are to present themselves to best

:22:07. > :22:12.effect. It is really important that your CV is correct because it is
