:00:04. > :00:10.have been accessing his mobile telephone illegally, a claim which

:00:10. > :00:15.is now being investigated. Derek Webb has worked undercover

:00:15. > :00:20.for years, first as a detective with Hertfordshire Police and then

:00:20. > :00:26.for the News of the World as a private investigator. He followed

:00:26. > :00:30.Charles Clarke and Tom Watson. 15 months ago, he complained to Thames

:00:30. > :00:34.Valley police, claiming they had tapped his phone after he was

:00:34. > :00:38.arrested by officers following a voicemail message they found.

:00:38. > :00:46.would like to know how they obtained my voicemail message when

:00:46. > :00:49.they did not have possession of my phone. There were only two options:

:00:49. > :00:53.One is official intercept information, the second is that

:00:53. > :00:57.Thames Valley Police illegally hacked my phone.

:00:57. > :01:01.Her voice mail contained false allegations claiming that he was

:01:01. > :01:05.linked to police corruption. He and a serving police officer from

:01:05. > :01:10.Hertfordshire were arrested but the case was eventually dropped. Had

:01:10. > :01:13.the police obtained a law for warrant, they would have been

:01:13. > :01:17.strict -- restricted to use the boys will information for

:01:17. > :01:23.intelligence gathering on it. They could not use it as grounds to

:01:23. > :01:30.arrest. Documents obtained by the BBC show that police contacted

:01:30. > :01:35.Orange to run a check. Detectives listened to the voicemail a month

:01:35. > :01:39.before the arrest. As yet, I have still not heard a coherent answer

:01:39. > :01:43.as to how the voice mail was accessed in the first place in any

:01:43. > :01:51.legal fashion. We know, with the allegations about four hacking that

:01:51. > :01:54.a writ large across the media at the moment, -- phone hacking, I

:01:54. > :02:00.thought that Thames Valley would have come back with more convincing

:02:00. > :02:05.information. Two claims were upheld about

:02:05. > :02:15.retention of property, but not the one about phone hacking. They

:02:15. > :02:17.

:02:17. > :02:21.Derek Webb says the order was signed by a judge five days after

:02:21. > :02:29.police had obtained the information. The order should have been obtained

:02:29. > :02:33.in advance. A former police officer has told me that he is aware of a

:02:33. > :02:36.number of cases in which police officers have hacked telephones. It

:02:36. > :02:40.was not just journalists who were doing it, he said, there were

:02:40. > :02:46.police officers, too. They saw it as a shortcut in investigating some

:02:46. > :02:53.cases. There is no clear evidence that that is what Thames Valley

:02:53. > :02:55.police did. It leaves questions unanswered. How did they get the

:02:55. > :03:02.voicemail? In a statement, Thames Valley

:03:02. > :03:08.police said that the telephone was confiscated on arrest as part of

:03:08. > :03:13.criminal investigation. They said they did not unlawfully access his

:03:13. > :03:17.telephone. The cases being investigated.

:03:17. > :03:22.Prison staff could take the unusual step of suing an inmate after he

:03:22. > :03:26.attacked three of them with a broken bottle. Kevan Thakrar is

:03:26. > :03:32.currently serving life for three murders in Bishop's Stortford in

:03:32. > :03:37.Hertfordshire four years ago. Prison officers say that they need

:03:37. > :03:42.more protection against violent prisoners.

:03:42. > :03:45.Kevan Thakrar runs his brother entered this House armed with a

:03:45. > :03:50.sub-machine gun. They shot dead a father and his 17-year-old son, and

:03:50. > :03:54.one of their friends. They repeatedly stabbed his goal friend

:03:54. > :03:57.in front of their three-year-old daughter and another man's mother.

:03:58. > :04:07.Kevan Thakrar was only three years into a life sentence when he lashed

:04:08. > :04:08.

:04:08. > :04:17.out violently again, attacking his guards. All of them went to

:04:17. > :04:20.restrain him. When I went to help he stabbed me as quick as that. I

:04:20. > :04:24.knew straight away he had hit my artery.

:04:24. > :04:29.His wife, then his fiancee, was working in the prison treatment

:04:29. > :04:33.room. It sounded like a tap running, the blood hitting the floor. We

:04:33. > :04:40.were looking at each other and I was trying to keep him conscious

:04:40. > :04:47.and talking. I cannot articulate what inexperienced was. It was

:04:47. > :04:51.terrific and I thought, "This is it, this is the end." Kevan Thakrar

:04:51. > :04:56.claimed that he struck out after ill-treatment and racist abuse.

:04:56. > :04:59.He also said he was suffering from post-traumatic distress -- for

:04:59. > :05:04.post-traumatic stress disorder after previous periods in prison.

:05:05. > :05:09.He said that staff had ignored his needs. He also complained to the

:05:09. > :05:15.Prison Ombudsman. Despite the attack being filmed on CCTV the

:05:15. > :05:19.jury found him not guilty. The Prison Officers' Association said

:05:20. > :05:29.it gave the green light to inmates. People do not understand what goes

:05:30. > :05:32.

:05:32. > :05:35.on behind those walls. They do not realise that the our housing some

:05:35. > :05:38.of the most dangerous people in the country.

:05:38. > :05:44.Two of the three guards attack that might have been unable to return to

:05:44. > :05:48.work. Craig has been left permanently disabled and in pain.

:05:48. > :05:51.Lots more to come, including a heartbreaking end to the big rugby

:05:52. > :05:55.match this weekend. Barney Harwood from Blue Peter is

:05:55. > :05:59.our guest reported tonight. He has been to Addenbrooke's Hospital to

:05:59. > :06:03.find out how Children In Need is helping young cancer patients.

:06:03. > :06:12.And after a dull and cloudy day, I will be here to tell you whether

:06:12. > :06:16.the sun will come out tomorrow. Cancer sufferers in parts of Essex

:06:16. > :06:21.are making legal history by taking court action to get better access

:06:21. > :06:25.to treatment. A patients in the area around Chelmsford have to

:06:25. > :06:30.travel to Colchester for daily radiotherapy treatment. Some

:06:30. > :06:35.believe that is unfair and they want a judicial review.

:06:35. > :06:39.Pain relief for Alison, diagnosed with breast cancer in 2,000 a date.

:06:39. > :06:45.She now has secondary tumours in her spine. She has had to make

:06:45. > :06:52.daily 40 mile round trips to Colchester for radiotherapy. I was

:06:52. > :06:57.tired and frightened. The thought of going up that road every day,

:06:57. > :07:02.close to Christmas on a very busy stretch of a very busy road, it was

:07:02. > :07:07.very difficult. She was going to the Essex County Hospital in

:07:07. > :07:10.Colchester. Southend General also does radiotherapy but there is nor

:07:10. > :07:14.radiotherapy centre here at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford.

:07:15. > :07:19.That means patients who are very ill from this part of the county

:07:19. > :07:23.have to travel elsewhere for their treatment. Now judges at the High

:07:23. > :07:26.Court could be asked to look into the decision made by four Primary

:07:26. > :07:32.Care Trusts in Essex not to have radiotherapy treatment in

:07:32. > :07:37.Chelmsford. These are people often who have had surgery followed by

:07:37. > :07:41.chemotherapy, and they are really ill. To have to go by public

:07:41. > :07:48.transport, which may take a couple of hours, or patient transport,

:07:48. > :07:52.which will take hours, it is impossible for some of these people.

:07:52. > :07:55.The health trusts say that not having radiotherapy treatment in

:07:55. > :08:01.Chelmsford means the centres in Colchester and Southend will be

:08:01. > :08:05.bigger and better. A court has heard how or woman was

:08:05. > :08:09.stabbed more than 50 times in her own home. Tina Bennett from

:08:09. > :08:13.Braintree was allegedly attacked by Howard Livings, a friend of her

:08:13. > :08:17.nephew, on Easter Sunday. He has gone on trial for murder at

:08:17. > :08:20.Chelmsford Crown Court. Her body was found by her sister.

:08:20. > :08:24.Two more people have been arrested after last month's disturbances at

:08:24. > :08:29.the Dale Farm traveller site in Essex. It takes the total number of

:08:29. > :08:33.arrests to 43. Nearly all of the bailiffs have left the site today.

:08:33. > :08:37.Most of the hardstanding at the legal site has been cleared.

:08:37. > :08:41.Two children are in hospital with botulism after eating Lloyd

:08:41. > :08:51.Grossman Korma Sauce, which is produced in Suffolk. It is made by

:08:51. > :08:57.Premier Foods in Bury St Edmunds. This is a particularly nasty form

:08:57. > :09:00.of food poisoning. The symptoms include vomiting, blindness and

:09:00. > :09:10.sometimes death. The two children who were poisoned or bought from

:09:10. > :09:17.the same family. They are being treated in Scotland. The sauces are

:09:17. > :09:25.endorsed by Loyd Grossman and they bear his name. The sauce has been

:09:25. > :09:32.recalled from the shop for -- the shops.

:09:32. > :09:37.The toxin, the poison, was actually founded in a discarded jar and in

:09:37. > :09:39.the lid of a jar that were in two different bins. We are satisfied

:09:39. > :09:43.they were not contaminated after the event.

:09:43. > :09:48.Premier Foods have told us that this incident relates to a single

:09:48. > :09:53.jar of the sauce. They say they are working urgently with the Ford --

:09:53. > :09:56.the authorities to investigate the cause. Loyd Grossman is said to be

:09:56. > :10:02.devastated. His agency, we cannot explain how this could have

:10:02. > :10:05.happened. Botulism should have been killed in the cooking process. The

:10:05. > :10:09.good thing is that the condition of the two children is said to be

:10:09. > :10:12.stable and improving. In football, all of our Essex sides

:10:12. > :10:17.are still in the FA Cup after the weekend. Ipswich Town have

:10:17. > :10:22.announced that they have made a profit.

:10:22. > :10:26.A rare thing these days - football clubs making money. Ipswich

:10:26. > :10:30.announced pre-tax profits of 136,000 for the past 12 months.

:10:30. > :10:35.Compare that to the year before when they made a loss of 14

:10:35. > :10:41.million. That followed losses of 12.5 million in 2009. How have they

:10:41. > :10:49.done it? It is largely due to player trading - in nearly 11

:10:49. > :10:52.million profit, boosted by the sale of Connor Wickham and Jon Walters.

:10:52. > :10:58.Fans would have hoped this would lead to a profit greater than

:10:58. > :11:02.136,000. The problem is that the club made an operating loss of

:11:02. > :11:07.10.7 million. Where is it all going? Playing and coaching staff

:11:07. > :11:12.costs have risen to almost 14 million. The overall staff costs

:11:12. > :11:18.are just over 17 million, a whopping 99% of turnover. Turnover

:11:18. > :11:23.is up by 10% to 17.2 million because of enhanced solidarity

:11:23. > :11:29.payments from the Premier League. Town's run to the Carling Cup has

:11:29. > :11:35.helped. The club's debt has risen by name million from 57 million a

:11:35. > :11:39.year ago to 66 million now. That is basically because the owner,

:11:39. > :11:48.Mark is Evans, keeps putting money into keep the club afloat while

:11:48. > :11:51.chasing their Premier League teams. The chairman of the Ipswich Town

:11:51. > :11:58.Independent Supporters Trust says that these results are a worry.

:11:58. > :12:03.is quite concerning when it is reported as a profit, when really,

:12:03. > :12:11.if we had not sold two players at a high price, we would have posted a

:12:11. > :12:16.10 million loss. It is concerning, with the debt continuing to grow.

:12:16. > :12:23.There are areas of concern. I think the club is or cave while Marcus

:12:23. > :12:33.Evans is there. The big concerned is whether his patience will run

:12:33. > :12:41.

:12:41. > :12:48.out. He is a round-up from the weekend.

:12:48. > :12:52.Non-league Chelmsford grab the headlines. They beat Telford to

:12:52. > :13:02.reach the second round. Aidan Harlow but the Essex club ahead

:13:02. > :13:05.

:13:05. > :13:08.after 11 minutes. Craig Parker doubled the lead. A great team

:13:08. > :13:15.performance, we could not have asked for more. The atmosphere

:13:15. > :13:21.after words was absolutely fantastic. It is great to be a part

:13:21. > :13:27.of it. Not a dream start for Charles de,

:13:27. > :13:37.they went 1-0 down early on. Lloyd James levelled the scoring with a

:13:37. > :13:44.35 yards strike. Andy Bond got one. James got his second in stoppage

:13:44. > :13:48.time. Southend earned themselves a replay with Preston, but only just

:13:49. > :13:58.as Barry Nicholson missed a first- half penalty. It ended in a goal

:13:59. > :13:59.

:13:59. > :14:04.was draw. -- ago almost draw.

:14:04. > :14:12.Much more on the BBC's Board website. BBC Radio Suffolk has much

:14:12. > :14:16.more on Ipswich town's annual report. -- the BBC sports website.

:14:16. > :14:23.You are watching BBC Look East. Coming up: How you can make a

:14:23. > :14:26.difference. Unemployment figures out this week

:14:26. > :14:31.and expected to show another rise in the number of young people out

:14:31. > :14:36.of work. Nationally the total could bowl above one million for 16 to

:14:36. > :14:42.24-year-olds. Today Ed Miliband said it was vital to kick-start the

:14:42. > :14:46.economy. He wants to encourage more people -- young people into work.

:14:46. > :14:56.The comments came as he visited Silicon Fen, a hi-tech area around

:14:56. > :15:06.

:15:06. > :15:11.Now there are 300 employers and hundreds more in spin-off companies.

:15:11. > :15:14.The tenanted lies behind products in areas ranging from

:15:14. > :15:20.communications to pharmaceuticals. It has an annual turnover of 40

:15:20. > :15:27.million. He said his visit was inspiring, but I asked him if it

:15:27. > :15:32.was all about politics. It was about economics and how we create

:15:32. > :15:37.good jobs and the future. I know there is a huge amount of ingenuity

:15:37. > :15:41.and talent in our country and in this region. But it is not being

:15:41. > :15:46.properly used. We need big reforms and changes in the way the banks

:15:46. > :15:50.work, the Government's work and the school's work. We need to create

:15:50. > :15:55.jobs for the future because we cannot go to the old economy that

:15:55. > :16:01.we had before the financial crunch. We need a different economy and

:16:01. > :16:07.that is what today has been about. Next there was a question-and-

:16:07. > :16:11.answer session in front of business leaders. Ranging from tuition fees,

:16:11. > :16:17.house shortages and the need for more apprentices. With so much

:16:17. > :16:23.gloom, some remain upbeat. Ever since the credit crunch there has

:16:23. > :16:27.been interest in eastern England, Cambridge. We are creating growth

:16:27. > :16:33.and prosperity, and there is an interest in how you do that. If we

:16:33. > :16:39.can transfer it it can only help us. There is an interest in the

:16:39. > :16:46.balancing the economy towards technology. As it was once said "be

:16:46. > :16:51.it is the economy, stupid." and issued too important to be left at

:16:51. > :16:55.Westminster. If you are a professional sports

:16:55. > :16:57.man or woman, you may not like it, but you know sometimes you have to

:16:57. > :17:00.lose. But sometimes it's harder than others. Like for Northampton

:17:00. > :17:03.Saints on Saturday, just moments from victory, when everything

:17:03. > :17:06.changed. Yes, the Saints were within a whisker of recording their

:17:06. > :17:16.first victory at the daunting Thomand Park stadium in Limerick,

:17:16. > :17:36.

:17:36. > :17:42.home of Irish side Munster. The they are a bit worried, the

:17:42. > :17:47.local people are quite worried. They very well made at this time.

:17:47. > :17:54.There is a buzz around the town, hopefully we can keep the locals

:17:54. > :17:58.quiet. This is one of the most intimidating places to play. Home

:17:58. > :18:03.to 26,000 voices. If Northampton can storm this fortress they will

:18:03. > :18:09.send out quite a message. The fans were ready for a night of high

:18:09. > :18:15.drama. Munster took the initiative with a pushover try, then at the

:18:15. > :18:21.response, a try of real quality. Back came Munster, splitting the

:18:21. > :18:24.Saints' defence to give the home side a half-time lead. James

:18:24. > :18:31.Downey's try restoring the is Saints' advantage, but the

:18:31. > :18:35.conversion was missed. Then, a knock on with the line at his mercy.

:18:35. > :18:42.Refereeing decisions did not help. But what followed will remain long

:18:42. > :18:48.in the memory. The clock dead, Munster going through 41 phases of

:18:48. > :18:58.play. Not the tidiest or prettiest but the soccer -- sucker-punch was

:18:58. > :19:03.

:19:03. > :19:08.brutal. Shattering Saints's dream. What a finish! It will take some

:19:08. > :19:13.time to get over that. It was a great contest, we knew it would be

:19:13. > :19:18.tough and close and so it proved. It was very frustrating, when you

:19:18. > :19:24.go close but come out on the losing side. Once again they suffer in an

:19:24. > :19:29.epic European contest. However the crucial away bonus point may prove

:19:29. > :19:33.critical in their European campaign. The countdown gets underway tonight

:19:33. > :19:36.for this week's Children In Need. As always, we like to let you know

:19:36. > :19:38.how your donations from last year have been put to use. Tonight the

:19:38. > :19:42.Blue Peter presenter Barney Harwood has been to Addenbrookes Hospital

:19:42. > :19:52.in Cambridge, to meet some of the children there who have been helped

:19:52. > :19:55.

:19:55. > :19:59.by you. Sophia is 12 and was diagnosed with

:19:59. > :20:08.cancer just under a year ago. She has had several courses of

:20:08. > :20:16.chemotherapy. Can you explain what it is like? The makes you lose your

:20:16. > :20:26.hair. It makes you very weak. chemotherapy is designed to make

:20:26. > :20:26.

:20:26. > :20:33.you get better, but you have to get worse first. I don't like getting

:20:33. > :20:38.thin. Eight year-old Charlie has been having treatment to. Nine

:20:38. > :20:45.months ago he was diagnosed with a large gym and it took a nine-hour

:20:46. > :20:55.operation to remove it, as well as regular visits to hospital. What is

:20:56. > :20:56.

:20:56. > :21:06.it like being in hospital? Okay, as long as I have my a games. They'd

:21:06. > :21:06.

:21:06. > :21:13.do chemotherapy. They try to clear it out. If not they have to do an

:21:13. > :21:18.operation. To make time on the ward best afforded children, Trojan in

:21:18. > :21:24.need are planning a charity running a project called "to get creative

:21:24. > :21:33.on the ward". They travel to the hospital in this mobile than, with

:21:33. > :21:43.a whole load of exciting media. You can make ringing tones, make a film,

:21:43. > :21:43.

:21:44. > :21:48.or record a song. If you want to raise money for projects like this,

:21:48. > :21:52.the good news is you can. Get out there for troll did indeed. The

:21:52. > :22:01.money you raised will go towards projects like this to help children

:22:01. > :22:05.like Charlie. Let's make a difference.

:22:05. > :22:14.Tomorrow night, how children in Need is helping a young girl who

:22:14. > :22:18.cares for her parents. Can I mention, Braintree Town verses

:22:18. > :22:23.Forest Green Rovers this Saturday. They are looking for somebody to be

:22:23. > :22:33.a mass court, you have to pay, but all of the money raised will go to

:22:33. > :22:34.

:22:34. > :22:42.children in Need. At Braintree Town A mild start to November, a very

:22:42. > :22:47.interesting year of weather. Look at this. The great British weather.

:22:47. > :22:52.Not until recently it was seen entail fairly predictable. Cold and

:22:52. > :22:57.the winter, warm in the summer. In the past year it has been more like

:22:57. > :23:03.a climate roller coaster. Last winter with temperatures plummeting

:23:03. > :23:07.to minus 18 degrees. Colder than Helsinki. The big freeze gripped

:23:07. > :23:14.the east. There was travel chaos across the region in what was the

:23:14. > :23:21.coldest winter in Britain for over 100 years. You can see that report

:23:21. > :23:25.in full tonight on BBC 1 at 7:30pm. It has been a pretty dull day of

:23:25. > :23:29.weather today. At the moment we have high pressure sitting out over

:23:29. > :23:33.Scandinavia which is blocking the weather systems bring us wet

:23:33. > :23:37.weather but subtle changes in wind direction have led to cloudy

:23:37. > :23:41.conditions. This is the scene from earlier this afternoon on the

:23:41. > :23:46.satellite chart. Lots of cloud feeding in from the North Sea

:23:46. > :23:52.sitting over us today. Very dull sort of day and tonight it stays
