:00:14. > :00:17.In Look East tonight. Queues, shortages or shut down altogether.

:00:17. > :00:20.The run on petrol continues. Where there are supplies, things are

:00:20. > :00:23.getting back to normal, but in many areas the wait continues. Lots of

:00:23. > :00:26.people we have never seen before, all wanting full tanks. But they're

:00:26. > :00:30.not getting it, they are only getting 20.

:00:30. > :00:33.Hello from David and me. Also tonight the bomb squad moves in on

:00:33. > :00:37.a V2 rocket, stuck in the mud since World War 2. When we realised it

:00:37. > :00:44.was a V2 rocket, crikey. A very unique weapon used during World War

:00:44. > :00:47.A boom in tourism. The industry is on course for a bumper season as

:00:47. > :00:57.more of us holiday at home. I'm in training for the race of a

:00:57. > :01:01.

:01:01. > :01:04.First. Another day of queuing at the region's petrol stations.

:01:04. > :01:09.It was not quite as hectic as yesterday, but retailers still

:01:09. > :01:12.reported surging demand. Some hauliers in the region have also

:01:12. > :01:14.voiced their worries about the security of their supplies. A

:01:14. > :01:18.growing number of forecourts have run dry. Our chief reporter Kim

:01:18. > :01:24.Riley is at an Esso station in North Norfolk.

:01:24. > :01:31.We have come to the only service station in at the seaside resort of

:01:31. > :01:36.Sheringham her. The honour they give, debt here at the moment is

:01:36. > :01:41.petrol or diesel, they have been dry here for 48 hours. They are

:01:41. > :01:45.desperately hoping that a tanker will come fairly soon.

:01:45. > :01:49.It is a very long supply line with much of the region's fuel coming by

:01:49. > :01:54.road from refineries in the Thames Estuary in Essex. A standard road

:01:54. > :02:03.tanker holds over 40,000 litres of fuel. Now, in normal times, a

:02:03. > :02:06.medium-sized petrol station might sell around 15,000 litres a day.

:02:06. > :02:16.Amidst all the panic this week, many have seen sales nearer 30 to

:02:16. > :02:17.

:02:17. > :02:20.35,000. There simply are not enough tankers to sustain that level of

:02:20. > :02:22.demand. So hardly surprising then that quite a number of stations

:02:22. > :02:25.have run dry. As Richard Daniel reports.

:02:25. > :02:29.To date, tankers were getting through. There is delivery this

:02:29. > :02:35.morning at a store in Norwich. But scores of filling stations were not

:02:35. > :02:45.so lucky. In Ipswich, ball these for chords were shot, having run

:02:45. > :02:46.

:02:46. > :02:53.dry after yesterday's panic buying. Once again, more queues. And

:02:54. > :03:03.frustrated drivers. Quite difficult. I have been 25 garages. I was at

:03:04. > :03:04.

:03:04. > :03:14.the end of my tank. For this haulage company, it has been a

:03:14. > :03:15.

:03:15. > :03:23.stressful week. It is a concern of all our customers at the moment. It

:03:23. > :03:33.has been dominating all my e-mails, people are worried about the lack

:03:33. > :03:34.

:03:34. > :03:40.of fuel. Petrol and diesel is the lifeblood of the country. Here,

:03:40. > :03:50.only regulars were being served. The we are a small garage, so we

:03:50. > :03:53.cannot afford larger loads. We make very little money on the fuel.

:03:53. > :03:59.Difficult times for motorists who may have hope that today would have

:03:59. > :04:02.seen their end of queues. This afternoon, one of the region's

:04:02. > :04:06.senior Conservative MPs said he thought the Government had handled

:04:06. > :04:15.the situation badly. There should not have been any move to encourage

:04:15. > :04:20.people to buy more than they normally buy without consulting the

:04:20. > :04:28.industry first. The extraordinary signs all over an Easter strike

:04:28. > :04:30.that never was. Andrew Lawrence is the regional

:04:30. > :04:35.chairman of RMI Petrol which represents independent stations. He

:04:35. > :04:42.also owns this one at Sheringham. His relief in sight? We hope so.

:04:42. > :04:46.The tanker we have been promised should be here about 8:30pm. We

:04:46. > :04:50.should be up and running certainly by tomorrow morning. It has been

:04:50. > :04:59.tougher areas like this would not many petrol stations around. That

:04:59. > :05:09.is the trouble. We are the all recite in Sheringham -- we are the

:05:09. > :05:10.

:05:10. > :05:14.only place in Sheringham. We used to have a lot of village garages,

:05:14. > :05:17.but now we are just down to the main centres and that is adding to

:05:17. > :05:24.the problems we are having the moment. The government has been

:05:24. > :05:31.accused of making a hash of handling the best. I am beginning

:05:31. > :05:39.to think that is the case. But it is getting, as more garages get

:05:39. > :05:45.fuel. Other Rt are they now by the end of the weekend, we will get

:05:45. > :05:49.back to some normality of. strike before Easter, they have to

:05:49. > :05:55.give it seven days it looked as, that is quite a long way off. But

:05:55. > :05:58.people will still get a nasty feeling 20 see the petrol warning

:05:58. > :06:02.light at the I do not know were the next station is. I think that is

:06:02. > :06:07.right. I think people have to stick to their normal routine. They know

:06:07. > :06:17.how far they can go in their car, stick to the normal pattern of

:06:17. > :06:20.

:06:20. > :06:30.fiddling and we should be OK. you very much. -- pattern of

:06:30. > :06:35.

:06:35. > :06:37.filling. As hard times bite, fewer of us are going abroad for holidays,

:06:37. > :06:41.so instead we're staying closer to home.

:06:41. > :06:43.Tourism is worth 6 billion a year in the East and is our biggest

:06:43. > :06:46.employer, providing 200,000 jobs. So far this year, attractions are

:06:46. > :06:51.already seeing growth of between 5 and 8 per cent. Here's our business

:06:51. > :06:57.correspondent Richard Bond. They say a week of sunshine brings

:06:57. > :07:01.him extract 80 million in revenue for the region's tourist industry.

:07:01. > :07:06.Voting forms have shared a Matt bound to. But there is an

:07:06. > :07:11.underlying trend as well. It is called the staycation, stay at home

:07:11. > :07:17.tourism. Attractions in the east are already seeing a strong growth

:07:17. > :07:23.this year. This park is on course for 5% more visitors this year.

:07:23. > :07:29.lot of them are pleased to stay in England. The price of the euro is a

:07:29. > :07:35.very big reason for that. And they are beginning to laugh Britain,

:07:35. > :07:45.particularly the east of England. Hoseasons has seen a great increase

:07:45. > :07:47.

:07:47. > :07:51.in Lake bookings. This couple Arran join a break. There are so many

:07:51. > :08:01.beautiful places in the country to go. People ought to explore it a

:08:01. > :08:01.

:08:01. > :08:06.little bit more. People take different holidays and a year. They

:08:06. > :08:15.have to look harder for their value. The UK offers great value for

:08:16. > :08:21.holidays. According to Hoseasons, overall demand for East Anglia

:08:21. > :08:30.holidays is up by one 5th on last year. While it UK attractions

:08:30. > :08:34.prospers, demand for foreign holidays is in decline. It seems

:08:34. > :08:39.that in these hard times, people are returning to places they know

:08:39. > :08:47.and trust, often resorts are they were familiar with as children. The

:08:47. > :08:51.omens for the summer season are good.

:08:51. > :08:53.Coming up later in the programme - the V2 rocket stuck in the mud for

:08:53. > :08:57.68 years. And Alex is preparing for a once in

:08:57. > :09:02.a lifetime chance to run in the new Olympic Stadium.

:09:02. > :09:06.Yes, I'm at Milton Keynes and dropping to some of their runners

:09:06. > :09:16.are taking part with me tomorrow. I will also have your full weather

:09:16. > :09:17.

:09:17. > :09:21.Over half a million pounds' worth of stolen metals have been seized

:09:21. > :09:23.in a special joint police operation at ports in the region. The six-

:09:23. > :09:33.week project is the latest initiative in the crackdown on

:09:33. > :09:34.

:09:34. > :09:40.A container load of scrap-metal, it is about to be inspected by the

:09:40. > :09:46.police and border force. Not just about cars as well. Half a million

:09:46. > :09:51.pounds a whether of vehicles, metals, caravans. They will be able

:09:51. > :09:55.to feed that into the National Intelligence picture and try to

:09:55. > :09:59.identify crime groups who are working nationally and

:09:59. > :10:05.internationally. The police say they have had some concerns about

:10:05. > :10:14.the containers they have open today. They are probably perfectly

:10:14. > :10:21.legitimate, but going through all the scrum battle -- scrap metal is

:10:21. > :10:30.a big task. Most of immense in cash bias-cut dealers have now been

:10:30. > :10:39.outlined. This is a device to tell when the tables are being cut saw

:10:39. > :10:42.the police can be on the site a minute. It will not put everybody

:10:42. > :10:47.off at stealing metal. But there is a clear message of that if you do

:10:47. > :10:54.plan this activity, we are watching out for that and we are equipped to

:10:54. > :11:01.detect and follow this through to prosecution. Police say they hope

:11:01. > :11:05.to run more inspections like this in the future.

:11:05. > :11:08.A council in Suffolk and one in Essex are to each get 100,000 of

:11:08. > :11:10.Government money to help bring empty shops back into use and new

:11:10. > :11:13.businesses set up. Ipswich Borough and Uttlesford District councils,

:11:13. > :11:17.which includes the towns of Saffron Walden and Dunmow, are among 100

:11:17. > :11:19.local authorities across England to share 10 million.

:11:19. > :11:24.A possible merger between Cambridgeshire and Suffolk fire

:11:24. > :11:26.services has moved a step closer today. At a meeting this afternoon,

:11:26. > :11:30.Cambridgeshire Fire Authority voted to go ahead with a feasibility

:11:30. > :11:33.study. That will be published in May. The county's deputy chief fire

:11:33. > :11:42.officer said it would only take place if it would save money and

:11:42. > :11:44.not put public safety at risk. Work has begun today to improve

:11:44. > :11:47.rail links between Ipswich and Lowestoft. A passing loop is being

:11:47. > :11:50.constructed enabling hourly services to run between the towns.

:11:50. > :11:55.The single track between Halesworth and Oulton Broad means trains

:11:55. > :11:58.cannot pass each other for more than 16 miles.

:11:58. > :12:02.It has taken nearly four years of intensive training for two people

:12:02. > :12:05.from Norfolk to turn their hobby into Olympic selection. They will

:12:05. > :12:08.not be taking part as athletes, but as judges in the badminton. And

:12:08. > :12:18.they only started training after it was announced London would host the

:12:18. > :12:25.

:12:25. > :12:29.A steady hand and a keen eye. That is what is needed. Their hobby of

:12:29. > :12:38.playing badminton has put them a place at the Olympic Games as line

:12:38. > :12:44.judges. Like the rest of England, I was watching the announcement and I

:12:44. > :12:54.thought I wanted to be involved in some way. The best players and the

:12:54. > :12:58.

:12:58. > :13:08.World War battle it out in London. Suzanne is a pig farm. She will go

:13:08. > :13:09.

:13:09. > :13:15.on it to make... David Laws that there is no room for error. We know

:13:15. > :13:20.some of the players and their games, we know what we are expecting in

:13:20. > :13:30.terms of ability. The difference with the Olympics will be the whole

:13:30. > :13:30.

:13:30. > :13:36.atmosphere. They will also be part of the opening ceremony in July.

:13:36. > :13:39.Now let's a look at the rest of the sport with Phil.

:13:39. > :13:41.This is what the Premiership table looked like the last time Norwich

:13:41. > :13:44.City travelled to Fulham. The Canaries just outside the drop zone,

:13:44. > :13:47.knowing 3 points would save them from relegation. Norwich are back

:13:47. > :13:55.at Craven Cottage tomorrow for the first time since that day. So let's

:13:55. > :13:59.take a little trip down memory lane. For Norwich City fans, the last day

:13:59. > :14:03.of the 2005 season will live long in the memory for the wrong reasons.

:14:03. > :14:10.We were confident that the Canaries could beat Fulham and avoid

:14:10. > :14:17.relegation from the Premiership. ever you needed a clean sheet, this

:14:17. > :14:22.is the game. Yes, we are coming into it at the right time. I would

:14:22. > :14:32.rather be in our camp than in any other. But it did not go to plan. A

:14:32. > :14:33.

:14:33. > :14:39.clear she could not go further away. Fulham it put six past their --

:14:39. > :14:49.past at Norwich. Devastating. Everyone was desperate to do it for

:14:49. > :14:49.

:14:49. > :14:59.the fans and the club. I thought we could scrape by, just so

:14:59. > :15:10.

:15:10. > :15:15.While Norwich continued to thrive back in the Premier League, the

:15:15. > :15:20.boss is not reflecting on years gone by. The lads have to keep

:15:20. > :15:29.doing what there doing and if we take a huge following, as we always

:15:29. > :15:35.do, I will not go back six years of my life to figure out what happened

:15:35. > :15:39.there. Leaving Craven Cottage are with the three boys on Saturday

:15:39. > :15:42.will help. In the Championship, Ipswich Town

:15:42. > :15:44.host Barnsley at Portman Road. The club are urging fans to get there

:15:44. > :15:47.early as they celebrate the 50th anniversary of their League

:15:47. > :15:50.Championship success in 1962. The club have also announced today that

:15:50. > :15:53.they are applying for category 2 status of the new academy structure.

:15:53. > :15:59.Category 2 requires an additional level of investment over and above

:15:59. > :16:04.what we're making at the moment. But category one in our view is

:16:04. > :16:07.beyond our financial means at this moment in time.

:16:07. > :16:12.In League One, Colchester will need to bounce back from their 3-1

:16:12. > :16:14.defeat at Walsall. The U's are on their travels again this weekend at

:16:14. > :16:24.relegation threatened Exeter. Manager John Ward said they must

:16:24. > :16:26.find their cutting edge. This is what the League Two table

:16:26. > :16:30.looks like going into the weekend's fixtures. Southend United are out

:16:30. > :16:32.of the automatic promotion spots for the time being. They go up

:16:32. > :16:40.against Cheltenham at Roots Hall tonight. A win would put them

:16:40. > :16:43.within a point of third. A bit of cricket news for you.

:16:43. > :16:46.Essex County Cricket Club has applied for the right to become a

:16:46. > :16:50.tenant of the Olympic Stadium after this summer's games. The club has

:16:50. > :16:59.confirmed it has put in a joint bid with the University of East London

:16:59. > :17:03.to use space in the after London 2012. They say they are excited,

:17:03. > :17:06.but they cannot tell us any more at this point.

:17:06. > :17:10.That's it for now but, of course, there's more sports news on the BBC

:17:10. > :17:20.website. Go to www.bbc.co.uk/sport. You'll find previews to the

:17:20. > :17:23.

:17:23. > :17:27.weekend's football matches as well as manager reaction after the games.

:17:27. > :17:35.You're watching Look East from the BBC. Still to come, the V2 rocket

:17:35. > :17:38.that no-one thought to mention to the bomb squad.

:17:38. > :17:41.The Olympic Games may be months away, but tomorrow, 5,000 people

:17:41. > :17:44.from across the country will be the first to run around the Olympic

:17:44. > :17:48.track. The Olympic Park 5-mile run is organised by the National

:17:48. > :17:51.Lottery. Dozens of people from our region applied and won the chance

:17:51. > :17:58.to take part. Running with them tomorrow will be our very own Alex

:17:58. > :18:04.Dolan. Yes, I am here in Milton Keynes of

:18:04. > :18:10.doing some gentle training before tomorrow's one. I can't believe I

:18:10. > :18:20.am going to cross their Olympic finish line. Lots of people across

:18:20. > :18:23.

:18:23. > :18:25.the region are taking part tomorrow. Tony Robinson from Norwich is a

:18:26. > :18:30.personal trainer. Which is quite handy because he's been giving me

:18:31. > :18:40.some tips. You want to make a hole in the ground with that back heel.

:18:41. > :18:46.

:18:46. > :18:56.Enjoy it. It is a once-in-a- It is so exciting be back on a

:18:56. > :19:00.

:19:00. > :19:05.running track. This is quite hard It is a once-in-a-lifetime

:19:05. > :19:12.opportunity. I want to see the sights, I want to see the velodrome.

:19:12. > :19:22.We will be the first athletes to cross a line before Usain Bolt

:19:22. > :19:26.

:19:26. > :19:30.I think we can safely say that he is going to be across the finishing

:19:30. > :19:38.line before me. Another person who will be across of finishing line

:19:38. > :19:44.tomorrow is Trevor. Didn't you break your ankle? What are you

:19:44. > :19:54.doing running? I did, 10 years ago I broke my ankle. What made you get

:19:54. > :19:58.

:19:58. > :20:05.into running a do that? -- after that? I was trying to build up my

:20:05. > :20:09.ankle again and I went in for a one and I loved it. How would it feel

:20:09. > :20:16.running in the Olympic Stadium? cannot believe it, it is going to

:20:16. > :20:24.be terrific, running around the Olympic Stadium! Another person

:20:24. > :20:28.joining us is Gale Ms. How are you feeling? I cannot wait. Knowing

:20:28. > :20:34.that I will be on the track before most of those athletes is wonderful.

:20:34. > :20:39.How much trick Daddy been putting him? I am not as fit as I used to

:20:39. > :20:45.be in my Badminton days. But I do lots of different exercise. I will

:20:45. > :20:50.not be breaking any world records. I am so excited about it. That is

:20:50. > :20:56.all from us here. I will be back later on in the programme with the

:20:56. > :21:01.weather forecast. This time tomorrow, we will be among the

:21:01. > :21:08.first to cross the Olympic finishing line.

:21:08. > :21:11.Fantastic. Next, the story of the German V2

:21:11. > :21:14.rocket which remains stuck in mudflats in Harwich. A bomb

:21:14. > :21:16.disposal team has been there all day trying to work out how

:21:16. > :21:20.dangerous it could be. The V2 came down in 1944.

:21:20. > :21:22.Locals say they have known about it for years. But what's less clear is

:21:22. > :21:29.whether the rocket's warhead, packed with explosive, is still

:21:29. > :21:34.attached. Why did the bomb disposal team

:21:34. > :21:41.commented time? It started with at an innocuous question at a meeting

:21:41. > :21:51.of harbour users this week about obstructions to navigation. The

:21:51. > :21:55.replied said there was a V2 rocket. We received a call and we were a

:21:55. > :22:03.little sceptical. But once we got on site, we confirmed it was a V2

:22:03. > :22:06.rocket. Germany began using them at in September 1944, they were loaded

:22:06. > :22:11.with a ton of explosives and Hitler thought they would be the decisive

:22:11. > :22:21.weapon in the war. This website records are virtually every one of

:22:21. > :22:21.

:22:22. > :22:31.the rockets that was fired. This records an entry for a V2 rocket

:22:32. > :22:36.

:22:36. > :22:39.that exploded above Harwich. This man is 82 now, but he was 15 when

:22:39. > :22:43.he remembers it exploding and crashing down on to the mud flats.

:22:43. > :22:46.He actually went out with a policeman to draw a sketch of what

:22:46. > :22:49.it looked like. I asked him if at the time he was worried about

:22:49. > :22:55.safety. Not really. We had a fatalistic attitude. We were quite

:22:55. > :23:05.used to doodlebugs and things like that. We thought it was a relaxed

:23:05. > :23:10.

:23:10. > :23:13.I was told that some people used to tie the boats up against it.

:23:13. > :23:19.would not do that as a matter of course in case you damaged the

:23:19. > :23:28.board. The next step will be to discover whether that power for

:23:28. > :23:31.warhead is attached to the rocket That's the last thing you want, a

:23:31. > :23:36.hose it down the website. I love the fact that the locals have known

:23:36. > :23:46.about it for years. Nobody is making a fuss.

:23:46. > :23:56.

:23:56. > :23:59.You were in your wet suit earlier? It is a lovely evening here ml

:23:59. > :24:03.tickings. Bet is just started to get a little bit chilly. If we

:24:04. > :24:09.start with the pressure chart for tonight's forecast, the high

:24:09. > :24:13.pressure that has dominated our whether has moved to West. It is

:24:13. > :24:18.over the Atlantic at the moment that it is moving further west over

:24:18. > :24:23.the next couple of days. It will allow a fund to move down from the

:24:23. > :24:29.North Sea bringing it then it cooler weather. Tonight, we have

:24:29. > :24:35.got clear skies across much of the region. Through the course of that

:24:35. > :24:42.night, it will tend to turn cloudy. By the end of that night, we are

:24:42. > :24:52.looking at fairly cloudy conditions. We should stay clear of our ground

:24:52. > :24:53.

:24:53. > :24:58.frost tonight however. A high pressure moves further west, and

:24:58. > :25:05.you will see that cold front. It is not especially active saw it will

:25:05. > :25:10.not produce any rain for us in the east. But it will introduce much

:25:10. > :25:14.cooler air behind it. You will not as quite a different tomorrow.

:25:14. > :25:22.Tomorrow will be much cloudier through the day, possibly some

:25:22. > :25:29.brighter spells in the north of the region. Quite a difference in

:25:29. > :25:33.temperature. I think it will feel quite called. But ideal conditions

:25:33. > :25:43.for running tomorrow. By the end of the day, it looks as if the cloud

:25:43. > :25:44.

:25:44. > :25:47.will thin and break and we might see some evening sunshine. There

:25:47. > :25:52.might be an odd spot of rain or drizzle, but it will not allowed

:25:52. > :26:02.too much. On a Sunday and Monday, we will see increasing amounts of

:26:02. > :26:06.

:26:06. > :26:12.sunshine. But there will be more cloud around. But there is some

:26:12. > :26:22.rate for Tuesday and Wednesday. Quite a bit cooler as well. Another

:26:22. > :26:23.

:26:23. > :26:28.cold front bringing us the chance of some showery weather. We could

:26:28. > :26:32.have some temperatures below freezing. Certainly assured him

:26:32. > :26:42.weather patterns. We have been spoiled for weather for March, but

:26:42. > :26:48.
