:00:08. > :00:11.In Look East tonight, still running for England. Lord Coe makes a run

:00:11. > :00:19.for it as the Olympics bandwagon rolls into this region.

:00:19. > :00:21.Hello from Susie and me. Also tonight... Exactly a week after a

:00:21. > :00:25.multi-million pound raid on this Cambridge museum, police stage an

:00:25. > :00:30.operation to find more clues. It is Paris to London via

:00:30. > :00:34.Peterborough on two wheels. Iron Woman Chrissey makes it look easy.

:00:34. > :00:44.And if you are out and about this weekend, will you be needing one of

:00:44. > :00:49.

:00:49. > :00:53.Hello. The Look East region got a taste of things to come today. The

:00:53. > :00:57.Olympics bandwagon rolled into town for the first time. But it was just

:00:57. > :01:01.a dress rehearsal. The torch relay convoy set off from

:01:01. > :01:04.Leicester at breakfast time this morning. It moved village by

:01:04. > :01:07.village until it reached Peterborough. The torch itself was

:01:07. > :01:10.carried by student volunteers. The whole thing was designed to help

:01:11. > :01:20.the organisers get ready for the real thing. Shaun Peel is in

:01:20. > :01:24.Peterborough now. I am in the heart of Peterborough,

:01:24. > :01:33.where the torch will end up on July the. There was a rehearsal between

:01:33. > :01:40.Leicester and Peterborough. -- 3rd July. It would help look at how you

:01:40. > :01:44.people will deal with challenges. 12 hours a day in the light of the

:01:44. > :01:54.torture started with jazzman just after 7 O Clock and will then

:01:54. > :01:55.

:01:55. > :02:02.finish in Peterborough. -- the life of the torch. Lord Coe had to leg

:02:02. > :02:09.it because of some problems. I know my local knowledge so well, because

:02:09. > :02:14.I have ran around his campus, just taking a short cut. There was a

:02:14. > :02:21.mixture of whether testing an air of the man plotting the route

:02:21. > :02:26.through this region. It is a testing challenge. Peterborough

:02:26. > :02:32.council have worked hard for us, looking at a traffic management, so

:02:32. > :02:39.it has been a real partnership and will hopefully be successful.

:02:39. > :02:43.travelled 80 miles to Peterborough today. In Ipswich, we have the

:02:44. > :02:50.flame up travelling by boat, an exchange from a speedboat on to a

:02:50. > :02:56.yacht, which will be important. And we have it travelling on a punt in

:02:56. > :03:03.Cambridge, so seeing how the flame travels on alternative methods of

:03:03. > :03:08.transport, that is important and good learning. Lord Coe getting

:03:08. > :03:16.caught in a road block aside, it left in one piece, but arrived in

:03:16. > :03:22.one piece. The torch is on its way to

:03:22. > :03:27.Peterborough, wending its way through the streets of this city.

:03:27. > :03:36.These are the first pictures when it first arrived in this region. It

:03:36. > :03:41.then got on a train. It went from Wandsworth station to Peterborough.

:03:41. > :03:46.On the platform, it made its way from Peterborough and should be

:03:46. > :03:53.with us in half-an-hour. With me is Annette Joyce, one of the

:03:53. > :03:58.organisers. You must be very excited? It has been wonderful, and

:03:58. > :04:06.letting us test procedures. We have learned how to do this by the best

:04:07. > :04:10.way possible. And from you, I lot to learn as well? Absolutely, a

:04:11. > :04:17.one-off opportunity to welcome everyone to Peterborough and see

:04:17. > :04:23.how beautiful Peterborough really is. And an opportunity to put

:04:23. > :04:29.Peterborough on the map, which you are grasping. Absolutely, which is

:04:29. > :04:34.why we are keen to have them. you very much. It will be in

:04:34. > :04:41.Peterborough for real on July the third. It will be in Norwich and

:04:41. > :04:46.Ipswich afterwards. Then Cambridge, Luton, then leaving the region

:04:46. > :04:50.through Milton Keynes and we will cover that all the way.

:04:50. > :04:55.Thank you very much. There were some sound problems with that

:04:56. > :04:58.report. We apologise. Police officers are tonight

:04:58. > :05:00.stationed outside a museum in Cambridge, exactly one week after

:05:01. > :05:04.raiders broke in and stole art treasures worth millions. The

:05:04. > :05:07.police are hoping to speak to people who were in the area at the

:05:08. > :05:09.time of the theft. Alex Dunlop sent has this report just a short while

:05:09. > :05:15.ago. Exactly one week ago this evening

:05:15. > :05:19.at 7:30pm, it is not a gang of up to four people broke into this

:05:19. > :05:26.world-famous museum, stealing a number of Chinese jade pieces worth

:05:26. > :05:31.millions. One piece was a sculpture poll above all, thought to be worth

:05:32. > :05:39.1 million alone, suggesting the thieves knew what they were looking

:05:39. > :05:46.for. -- a sculpture of above the law. They were only there for a few

:05:46. > :05:51.minutes before escaping. We have many officers on this since it took

:05:51. > :05:57.place and it is a priority, not least because of the value of the

:05:57. > :06:04.property stolen and its complexity. Roger is an art historian and runs

:06:05. > :06:10.a gallery in London. How significant is this loss? It is a

:06:10. > :06:14.significant and tragic loss. One of them is a very significant piece

:06:14. > :06:21.and we hope it is recovered soon. Would these have been stolen to

:06:21. > :06:25.order? There is always that possibility, but that may be

:06:25. > :06:30.speculation. This saleable value is not great in this sense it will

:06:30. > :06:37.always be known and published and could not be resold on the Open

:06:37. > :06:44.market. I know that Lord Nelson memorabilia was also stolen from a

:06:44. > :06:51.recent museum. R our Museum has a soft target? Security in museums

:06:51. > :06:56.always needs checking. -- our museums in this region as soft

:06:56. > :07:02.target? I do not think the unnecessarily as soft target, I

:07:02. > :07:12.think this is just the increase in value of Chinese art.

:07:12. > :07:16.

:07:16. > :07:19.Police want anyone who may have Lots more to come in Look East,

:07:19. > :07:22.including the Iron Woman getting ready to run the London Marathon.

:07:22. > :07:27.And have a pen and paper ready, because we are after your marathon

:07:27. > :07:37.photos. And after some heavy showers, there

:07:37. > :07:37.

:07:37. > :07:40.is more on the way. Full details coming up later.

:07:40. > :07:43.An independent prep school in Essex will be putting on extra lessons

:07:43. > :07:47.during the summer holidays as a direct response to changes in the

:07:47. > :07:50.11 plus exam. At stake, a much sought-after place in a grammar

:07:50. > :07:57.school. But a change in the law means they will be held two months

:07:57. > :08:01.earlier than expected. The hopefuls at St Cedd's in

:08:01. > :08:04.Chelmsford. In September, they will sit the exams. Two months earlier

:08:04. > :08:10.than the year before. 60% have signed up for a week of extra

:08:10. > :08:14.lessons. It costs 250 a head. is about teaching, providing high

:08:14. > :08:24.quality teaching and support, which is different to tutoring in small

:08:24. > :08:25.

:08:25. > :08:33.groups, were you look at it trying to fill gaps. This will be the most

:08:33. > :08:40.fierce and faced. 6785 applications to 12 schools up and with much more

:08:40. > :08:45.limited places. That equals fierce competition. I acknowledge and

:08:45. > :08:49.except parents want the best for children, but must reflect on what

:08:49. > :08:53.that is and is the right thing being done by putting children and

:08:53. > :08:56.the stresses and strains, putting them through examinations so young?

:08:56. > :08:59.The Consortium for Selective Schools in Essex is in charge of

:08:59. > :09:02.the tests. It has emphasised that the summer holiday is an important

:09:02. > :09:08.time for children to rest. But those on the pick-up run say the

:09:08. > :09:13.pressure is bearable. The children work very hard and it is a balance.

:09:13. > :09:17.I think, as long as they are working hard, but also need to the

:09:17. > :09:20.children and we need to keep it in perspective. Parents face leading

:09:20. > :09:25.their children to the best future possible without ruining their

:09:25. > :09:28.present. A stretch of the M11 in Essex has

:09:28. > :09:31.been closed this afternoon after an accident in which a lorry shed its

:09:31. > :09:37.load of baked beans. The southbound carriageway was closed between

:09:37. > :09:40.junctions 7 and 6. A car hit the central reservation and the lorry

:09:40. > :09:43.jack-knifed, spilling its load across all three lanes. One person

:09:43. > :09:50.was treated at the scene for minor injuries. The road has just

:09:50. > :09:53.reopened. A reward of 10,000 was offered

:09:53. > :09:55.today to help find raiders who smashed their way into

:09:56. > :09:58.Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge. The ram-raiders made off with a

:09:58. > :10:02.cash machine. Caught on CCTV, the thieves reverse

:10:02. > :10:06.through a glass door. Moments before this picture is taken, a

:10:06. > :10:11.cleaner polishing the floor has to dive out the way. The ATM machine

:10:11. > :10:17.is pulled off the wall. The ram- raiders steal it and drive off in

:10:17. > :10:22.another stolen car. This is the entrance to the treatment centre

:10:22. > :10:28.Andrew Pearson well underway. These double doors were smashed and then

:10:28. > :10:30.that thieves made off in a stolen BMW. -- repairs and well underway.

:10:30. > :10:34.Whist the damage is still being assessed at Addenbrooke's, the

:10:34. > :10:37.company that owns the cash machine has now put up a reward to try and

:10:37. > :10:40.catch them. We hope it will prompt somebody who could no something and

:10:40. > :10:44.this may be reluctant to come forward, perhaps 10,000 will

:10:44. > :10:48.encourage them to come forward. This could have really injured

:10:48. > :10:51.someone and we want to catch these people. Part of the cash machine

:10:51. > :10:55.has been found in Bedfordshire. Police cannot reveal the exact

:10:55. > :10:58.amount the ram raiders took. But they say it is a considerable sum

:10:58. > :11:02.of money. They are appealing for anyone with any information to

:11:02. > :11:07.contact them. Let's look ahead to the weekend

:11:07. > :11:10.sport now. Here's Phil Daley. Football on the way very shortly.

:11:10. > :11:16.But just over an hour ago, the latest athlete from our patch

:11:16. > :11:19.qualified for the London Olympics. Lowestoft boxer, Anthony Ogogo,

:11:19. > :11:29.successfully sealed his spot in Team GB with a win in the

:11:29. > :11:32.

:11:32. > :11:35.It has been an interesting week in the life of Norwich City. On

:11:35. > :11:39.Wednesday, the Canaries launched their new kit. A fan leaked details.

:11:39. > :11:42.The police were called in. The ensuing row became known as kit

:11:42. > :11:44.gate. Last night, the club apologised. And if all that was not

:11:44. > :11:47.enough, chief executive David McNally is running the London

:11:47. > :11:50.Marathon on Sunday. If Norwich City were hoping kit

:11:50. > :11:55.gate might go away quickly, it hasn't yet. This morning, the story

:11:55. > :12:03.was still being tweeted around the world. The marketing men had it all

:12:03. > :12:09.planned. A new kit and a chirpy video with the catchy tag line

:12:09. > :12:13."Pass It On". That is what City fan Chris Brown did. He passed it

:12:13. > :12:20.online. But he did it before the official launch. The club were less

:12:21. > :12:25.than chuffed and called in the police. City director, Stephen Fry,

:12:25. > :12:31.said on Twitter it was a storm in teacup. He issued an apology on its

:12:31. > :12:38.website. On the pitch, the Canaries will hoping to put last weekend's

:12:38. > :12:41.6-1 defeat behind them at Blackburn tomorrow. On Sunday, the club's

:12:41. > :12:43.chief executive, David McNally, will join the thousands running the

:12:43. > :12:46.London Marathon and raising millions for good causes. You'd

:12:46. > :12:53.think he might get to use Carrow Road for training. But apparently

:12:53. > :12:57.not. I am not allowed. I do not think the grounds will let me near

:12:57. > :13:02.a wonderful pitch. -- the groundsman. He will not let the

:13:02. > :13:06.Chief Executive on the pitch. I am lucky to have some great training

:13:06. > :13:09.routes in the city centre, either in the city centre or the

:13:09. > :13:13.countryside. The chief executive is raising money for the clubs'

:13:13. > :13:18.Community Sport Foundation. community or on the football club,

:13:18. > :13:22.so we are working together to try and raise money, particularly for

:13:22. > :13:26.the disabled and disadvantaged through this appeal, so every penny

:13:26. > :13:31.raised will help the good people of Norfolk. David McNally is part of

:13:31. > :13:36.Norwich City team running the marathon. Together, they are hoping

:13:36. > :13:46.to raise 50,000 to help people like Jamie. That puts kit gate into

:13:46. > :13:46.

:13:46. > :13:51.some sort of perspective. Contract news from Ipswich Town and

:13:51. > :14:00.bad news for this fellow man who has been released. Tommy Smith has

:14:00. > :14:08.been offered a new deal. And some other deals are on going. You get

:14:08. > :14:14.to 26 and you are getting married, so some neat need to move on. -- so

:14:14. > :14:21.some people may need to move on. We hope to have a fighting chance of

:14:21. > :14:30.signing Grant. Colchester United and South bend

:14:30. > :14:35.both in action this weekend. -- Southend. Barnet are just outside

:14:35. > :14:40.the relegation zone, so plenty still to play poor.

:14:40. > :14:48.Southend's home form has been Topsy Turvey. But there has been

:14:48. > :14:54.improvement late late. A win against Wimbledon latently -- week

:14:54. > :14:59.late, and other successes have helped, but play-off is looking

:14:59. > :15:06.likely. There are tensions looking to next

:15:06. > :15:10.season. 12 players out of contract at the end of this campaign. On the

:15:10. > :15:17.field, despite a valuable point against Sheffield Wednesday, there

:15:17. > :15:20.was a failure to win during the last 10 outings.

:15:20. > :15:30.And preparations for the World Championships in Sheffield and

:15:30. > :15:42.

:15:42. > :15:45.The Education Secretary, Michael Gove, has been in the region today.

:15:45. > :15:49.The latest big name politician to come here campaigning for the local

:15:49. > :15:53.elections. Polling day is just two weeks away. Not every council in

:15:53. > :15:56.the region is holding an election this year. But those that are could

:15:56. > :16:05.deliver some very interesting results. Here is Political

:16:05. > :16:07.Yes, voting taking place in just 19 councils in the East. Here they are.

:16:07. > :16:11.Cambridge, which is controlled by the Liberal-Democrats. The Labour

:16:11. > :16:16.authorities of Ipswich and Stevenage. Norwich, Colchester and

:16:16. > :16:18.Milton Keynes. All of them are in no overall control. And all these

:16:18. > :16:23.other councils are run by the Conservatives. Not surprisingly,

:16:23. > :16:33.the Tories are defending the largest number of seats. 182. That

:16:33. > :16:35.is twice the number being contested by the other parties. And with an

:16:35. > :16:44.opinion poll today putting the Conservatives 13% behind Labour, it

:16:44. > :16:49.is the Tories who have the most to The Conservatives are doing a lot

:16:49. > :16:53.of number crunching, knowing they could do badly in two weeks and

:16:53. > :16:58.want to draw attention to what they believe are their party's

:16:58. > :17:04.achievements. That is why the Education Secretary was at this

:17:04. > :17:10.academy in Harlow today, made famous by a Channel 4 programme. If

:17:10. > :17:16.this is about the Government's record, Michael Gove wants him to

:17:16. > :17:20.it -- once you to know that many schools will soon be academies.

:17:20. > :17:23.sea only has this fantastic new building because of the wonderful

:17:23. > :17:28.job Conservative councillors have done. Academies give head teachers

:17:28. > :17:33.the chance to decide what should happen. It also means the school

:17:33. > :17:38.becomes a focus of pride for the community. The Conservatives run

:17:38. > :17:43.most of the councils in this region. Eric Pickles boasts the run

:17:43. > :17:47.authorities efficiently and keep down council tax by sheering staff

:17:47. > :17:52.and outsourcing services. Labour says the result is poor-quality

:17:52. > :17:57.services and job losses. The cuts were beginning to bite last year

:17:57. > :18:01.during the elections and the Conservatives braced for big losses.

:18:01. > :18:06.Everyone was surprised by Ben making increases. Then councils

:18:06. > :18:10.were taken control of, such as Northampton and North Norfolk. But

:18:10. > :18:15.the heat is on this year, particularly in Harlow, and the

:18:15. > :18:19.party needs to work hard to win over voters.

:18:19. > :18:22.And next week here on Look East, we will be taking a closer look at

:18:22. > :18:24.some of the more interesting battles going on in this election

:18:24. > :18:27.campaign. Thank you, Andrew. And there is

:18:27. > :18:31.more coverage of the region's political scene this weekend on

:18:31. > :18:36.Sunday Politics. It is on BBC One on Sunday at the later time of two

:18:36. > :18:46.o'clock. Have a pen ready, because we have

:18:46. > :18:48.

:18:48. > :18:51.details coming up of where to send your London Marathon photographs.

:18:51. > :18:55.One woman who is no stranger to the marathon circuit is Chrissey

:18:55. > :18:58.Wellington, the world Iron Man champion. While most runners in

:18:58. > :19:01.Sunday's big events are probably now eating lots of carbs and taking

:19:01. > :19:04.it easy, Chrissey, who is from Norfolk, is in the middle of a

:19:04. > :19:06.charity marathon and cycle ride. The route is taking her from Paris

:19:06. > :19:09.to London. Today, she passed through Cambridgeshire. The event

:19:09. > :19:13.is in memory of a woman who died from breast cancer.

:19:13. > :19:18.They are riding in remembrance of a mother and a wife. Jane Tomlinson.

:19:18. > :19:24.You sometimes question it, but have been accrued around you helps and

:19:24. > :19:34.knowing why you are doing it. countryside is beautiful, the

:19:34. > :19:35.

:19:35. > :19:44.fields, and you think, this is England at its best.

:19:44. > :19:47.Well done, Chrissie. Great to be back in East Anglia at! It's a bike

:19:47. > :19:52.ride which takes some beating. But for Iron Woman, Chrissey, she makes

:19:52. > :19:58.it look easy. For others, the pain is beginning to show. I just have

:19:58. > :20:05.to do my best. Not finishing is not an option. What Jane Tomlinson did,

:20:05. > :20:08.compared to as, pales into insignificance -- compared to what

:20:08. > :20:11.we do, that pales into insignificance. Their challenge

:20:11. > :20:17.started last Sunday with the Paris marathon. From there, they cycled

:20:17. > :20:22.to Zeebrugge. Then the ferry to Hull. It is wonderful to be part of

:20:22. > :20:31.a teen Challenge, instead of racing on my own. She has been fantastic,

:20:31. > :20:38.boosting morale, setting the pace, showing the boys girls are much

:20:38. > :20:44.better. Jane Tomlinson finished the marathon. I will probably cry, and

:20:44. > :20:47.I am not a crying person, because it will mean an awful lot. Most

:20:47. > :20:51.marathon runners will tell you the final miles are the hardest. Spare

:20:51. > :20:59.a thought for this lot. With two days to go, they haven't even got

:20:59. > :21:04.close. I am delighted to say we can go to

:21:04. > :21:13.Hertfordshire and talk to Chrissie. Isn't this just showing off? Riding

:21:13. > :21:18.a bicycle to demand than -- to the marathon? It is part of this

:21:18. > :21:23.challenge and I am so excited. are having some problems with

:21:23. > :21:31.picture, but will hope it gets better. This is in memory of Jane

:21:31. > :21:38.Tomlinson, a remarkable woman. absolutely was and continues to

:21:38. > :21:46.inspire me eat and so many people - - continues to inspire me and so

:21:46. > :21:53.many people... It is about getting out there, testing, encouraging

:21:54. > :22:00.everyone to do the same. Chrissie, I am a very sorry. I can see it is

:22:00. > :22:09.pouring with rain and we are having some problems here. We will try one

:22:09. > :22:16.more time. Have you changed your mind now? I know that as you event

:22:16. > :22:25.was not in the Olympics, do you know I wish you could be there?

:22:25. > :22:30.Probably not. I chose Iron Man over the Olympic triathlon. I have four

:22:30. > :22:34.World Championship victories that I am proud of. The Olympics is the

:22:34. > :22:41.greatest sporting spectacle, so why will be there cheering everyone on,

:22:41. > :22:47.hopefully doing some commentary work and enjoying it. It has

:22:47. > :22:52.happened again. Chrissie, a we will have to leave it there. Thank you

:22:52. > :22:59.so much and good luck with the marathon and well-run -- well done

:22:59. > :23:02.raising so much money. Thank you. And if you are taking part in

:23:02. > :23:07.Sunday's Marathon, share your photos with us. The best way is to

:23:07. > :23:17.send them by email. The address is look.east@bbc.co.uk. Good luck if

:23:17. > :23:22.you are taking part. Now for the You are looking rather different.

:23:22. > :23:28.Just a slight change of image. Opinion has been divided.

:23:28. > :23:34.Today, another day of heavy thundery showers. Some places

:23:34. > :23:39.getting dry weather. He is a picture of some hail. When we get

:23:39. > :23:45.thundery showers, sometime -- sometimes we get funnel clouds. He

:23:45. > :23:51.is a picture of one from Louis the Greengrass. Thank you for that. --

:23:51. > :23:56.Lewis Greengrass. On the whole for the whole month, we would expect 45

:23:56. > :24:00.millimetres on average of rain. But you will see that a number of

:24:00. > :24:07.locations, particularly in the north, have exceeded that. Not

:24:07. > :24:13.quite up to 45 in Essex yet, but there is still ten days to go. What

:24:13. > :24:19.does this mean for the drought? We are no long term situation, so this

:24:19. > :24:24.will not reverse things, but is a step in the right direction. Low

:24:24. > :24:28.pressure right over us today, which is causing these intense

:24:29. > :24:33.thunderstorms. Looking at the satellite, you can see shower

:24:33. > :24:39.clouds gathered. The rate that chart shows some pretty intense

:24:39. > :24:46.showers. Some places escaped and got some sunshine. Quite a lot

:24:46. > :24:52.around. These pictures are from an hour and gold. Some further showers

:24:52. > :24:57.this evening, possibly fading overnight. We could get some misty

:24:57. > :25:02.conditions with dampness around. Clearing skies might just get down

:25:02. > :25:06.to around four Celsius. We should stay free of ground frost with

:25:06. > :25:13.these values. Winds should generally be light and tonne

:25:13. > :25:17.westerly through the night. Tomorrow is a carbon copy of today.

:25:17. > :25:22.Starting with early sunshine, then shower clouds gathering. The

:25:22. > :25:27.potential for some heavy and thundery showers into that

:25:27. > :25:32.afternoon. Temperatures climbing into double figures. The winds will

:25:32. > :25:39.be alight north-westerly, a hazard of that meaning showers will be

:25:39. > :25:43.slow-moving. If you catch showers, you might be stuck under a downpour.

:25:43. > :25:51.The risk of heavy showers through the afternoon. The picture stays

:25:51. > :25:59.the same. We still have low pressure looking ahead. That is

:25:59. > :26:04.more potential for big showers. For the marathon, it looks like heavy

:26:04. > :26:08.showers still around. And lengthy periods of rain on Monday. Further

:26:08. > :26:12.showers on Tuesday. And some temperatures low enough for a

:26:12. > :26:17.ground frost. We appear to have had some
