:00:00. > :00:14.lot more About 10,000 homes across the region

:00:15. > :00:18.have been without electricity today after power lines were brought down

:00:19. > :00:21.in gale force winds. Engineers have been working all day and nearly

:00:22. > :00:26.three quarters have now been reconnected. But some homes could

:00:27. > :00:30.still be without power for Christmas. Oh, crumbs! Well, we've

:00:31. > :00:33.got water but we haven't got electricity. The First Impressions

:00:34. > :00:40.hairdressing salon in a village just north of Norwich. 60 appointments

:00:41. > :00:44.for the day and no power. I got here around about 7:20am and was going to

:00:45. > :00:49.start at 7:30 because it is a busy day, Christmas Eve. I switched the

:00:50. > :00:52.lights on, nothing. The power went off in the early hours and in this

:00:53. > :00:57.shop nearby they were working by lights powered by a generator. The

:00:58. > :01:01.brewers have gone home because we have got no power. They are coming

:01:02. > :01:05.back at 4pm. Unfortunately, they are going to be here until midnight but

:01:06. > :01:09.it is a sterling effort. We hope they have a great Christmas but good

:01:10. > :01:13.effort. Kay is having family round for Christmas. She was wondering how

:01:14. > :01:17.she was going to feed everyone. The ham was bubbling away on a gas stove

:01:18. > :01:21.but cooking the turkey might be more of a problem. I have got a freezer

:01:22. > :01:24.full of food. These are the anxieties everybody is going to

:01:25. > :01:29.have. Particularly at Christmas time. You know, you're absolutely

:01:30. > :01:32.full of food. You have your fridge full, freezer full. We want people

:01:33. > :01:35.to have a great Christmas and enjoy their Christmas and we are doing

:01:36. > :01:38.everything in our capability today to ensure that happens. Kay's

:01:39. > :01:42.husband cranked up a generator to give them some power. Engineers were

:01:43. > :01:47.busy working nearby to restore power to the whole area. The UK power

:01:48. > :01:50.network say the vast majority of people cut off last night should

:01:51. > :01:56.have electricity restored for the big day.

:01:57. > :02:01.The strong winds also caused problems on road and rail. Trains

:02:02. > :02:04.were suspended overnight until the lines had been checked and many

:02:05. > :02:08.rivers have been swollen. But the immediate risk of flooding appears

:02:09. > :02:13.be receding. This report from Kevin Burch. After a night of raging

:02:14. > :02:19.winds, many people woke once again to start counting the cost. This was

:02:20. > :02:22.in Cambridgeshire. Elsewhere in the county, roads were inundated, with

:02:23. > :02:28.officials urging everyone to take care. People always underestimate

:02:29. > :02:31.the dangers of floodwater. The fact that it has stopped raining does not

:02:32. > :02:35.mean it is less dangerous. I would advise people to keep away from

:02:36. > :02:38.rivers, keep away from high water and keep safe over Christmas. The

:02:39. > :02:42.rail firm Greater Anglia warned commuters not to expect any trains

:02:43. > :02:45.running before 10am this morning. As it was, a limited service was

:02:46. > :02:49.operating after the tracks and overhead cables had been checked

:02:50. > :02:53.first thing. It is frustrating but we are all in the same boat. Not too

:02:54. > :02:57.bad because they said ten o'clock and I thought I'd chance it. You're

:02:58. > :03:01.going to get held up. You're going to get held up if you drive. It's

:03:02. > :03:05.one more thing. You would have thought they would have prepared for

:03:06. > :03:08.it better. It's when I get to Waterloo that I may have to ask a

:03:09. > :03:12.few questions! I think it probably won't be too bad. I'll think

:03:13. > :03:15.differently if we get delayed en route to Peterborough, or something

:03:16. > :03:18.like that. The rail firms say they have to put safety first and can't

:03:19. > :03:21.risk trains and passengers getting stranded. As far as the floodwater's

:03:22. > :03:26.concerned, officials say that with two dry days ahead, hopefully levels

:03:27. > :03:29.will subside quickly. Members of the Fire Brigade's Union

:03:30. > :03:36.across the region are taking strike action this evening, in a row over

:03:37. > :03:40.changes to their pensions. They will be on strike tonight from seven til

:03:41. > :03:45.midnight. Three more are planned over New Year. Each brigade has some

:03:46. > :03:48.kind of resilience in place. In addition to that, we've also got a

:03:49. > :03:55.Major Incident Return to Work Plan agreed. We have that here in

:03:56. > :03:59.Bedfordshire with our chief officers. That is the case across

:04:00. > :04:02.the majority of the country, with the exception of Essex, whose chief

:04:03. > :04:05.has decided to lock them out for the full duration of the Christmas Eve

:04:06. > :04:08.strike and potentially the New Year's Eve strike as well.

:04:09. > :04:14.Now it's time for the weather. Year's Eve strike as well.

:04:15. > :04:19.Now it's time for Here's Alex. It is looking much calmer for

:04:20. > :04:22.Christmas. Dry at the moment but the chance of showers developing

:04:23. > :04:25.overnight and it could be quite heavy locally. Most of us should be

:04:26. > :04:30.free of frost. Temperatures getting close to freezing but enough wind to

:04:31. > :04:33.prevent frost forming, perhaps just in the countryside. Through

:04:34. > :04:40.Christmas Day, it looks largely dry through much of the day with sunny

:04:41. > :04:43.spells on patchy cloud. The chance of showers developing in coastal

:04:44. > :04:49.part of Southwark and ethics but most places should stay dry. Chilly

:04:50. > :04:52.on Boxing Day. It looks largely dry for Boxing Day. Quite a bit more

:04:53. > :04:55.cloud and then we end the week as we started, wet and windy.

:04:56. > :05:02.That's all from us. Have a good night. Merry Christmas.

:05:03. > :05:08.it from us - we are back on Boxing Day at One o'clock. Merry Christmas.

:05:09. > :05:19.Hello. The weather has been a little kinder today to travellers and

:05:20. > :05:20.last-minute Christmas shoppers across England
