:00:00. > :00:10.confiscated and destroyed, well, that must be galling.

:00:11. > :00:14.Good evening. I'm Susie Fowler`Watt. East Anglia's longest serving MP Tim

:00:15. > :00:17.Yeo has been de`selected by local party members in South Suffolk.

:00:18. > :00:21.Nearly 500 local Conservatives took part in the vote. He was first

:00:22. > :00:24.elected in 1983 and has held the seat at six general elections. But

:00:25. > :00:27.many people believe he spent too much time away from South Suffolk,

:00:28. > :00:41.dealing with other interests. Some say he'd become 'virtually

:00:42. > :00:44.invisible'. This is not how Mr Yeo, or even many of his detractors,

:00:45. > :00:48.wanted to see his career end. After 30 years as an MP, after winning the

:00:49. > :00:52.same seat on seven occasions, he's had to spend the evening putting a

:00:53. > :00:55.brave face on his defeat. It was a knife edge result. I respect the

:00:56. > :01:00.outcome. I'll give my full support to my successor, whoever he or she

:01:01. > :01:03.is. But after 30 years as an MP, it shouldn't end this way? Well, if you

:01:04. > :01:08.take part in democracies... Elections... Sometimes you win,

:01:09. > :01:10.sometimes you lose. At lunch today, he snuck into the back of

:01:11. > :01:17.Conservative HQ, avoiding the waiting media. On the third floor,

:01:18. > :01:21.he watched as the 500 votes were verified and counted.

:01:22. > :01:27.Three`and`a`half hours later, the news was delivered by e`mail. South

:01:28. > :01:33.Suffolk had dropped their MP. Mr Yeo has spent the last month campaigning

:01:34. > :01:39.hard. He set up this website. Dozens of MPs and friends pledged their

:01:40. > :01:46.support. He said he was proud of his record. There's evidence of the

:01:47. > :01:49.effective role I played in parliament and Suffolk. He says

:01:50. > :01:52.he'll continue to work hard as an MP until the next election. His local

:01:53. > :02:01.party is beginning the task of finding a new candidate. Joining me

:02:02. > :02:05.now from Tim Yeo's constituency is Simon Barrett, the deputy chairman

:02:06. > :02:17.of the local party. How do you feel tonight, now the matter is resolved

:02:18. > :02:28.once and for all? Very pleased we are finished the process. We can

:02:29. > :02:37.select a new candidate. How difficult has it been? Nobody wants

:02:38. > :02:44.to go through this process. Friends and colleagues go against each

:02:45. > :02:49.other. We just want to get the message out. What was the main

:02:50. > :02:59.problem as far as you were concerned? The lack of visibility.

:03:00. > :03:04.He's been absent, especially at local fundraising. He served the

:03:05. > :03:07.constituency for 30 years ` brought a lot of experience to the role ` do

:03:08. > :03:17.you feel sympathy for him? Absolutely. I was on the original

:03:18. > :03:24.selection panel in 1982. He has done a lot of good work. But everybody

:03:25. > :03:36.comes to an end. It's time to move on. What kind of candidate will you

:03:37. > :03:48.be looking for now? Someone who has their roots in South Suffolk. Maybe

:03:49. > :03:52.someone with business experience. We need infrastructure, and to get

:03:53. > :03:56.things moving. Thank you. Many areas around the River Chelmer

:03:57. > :03:59.in Essex are still under flood water tonight. Parts of the county have

:04:00. > :04:02.been deluged in recent weeks. The head of the Environment Agency said

:04:03. > :04:06.today it can't afford to defend every area which is prone to

:04:07. > :04:11.flooding. When a site like this, or this, prompts a sigh, you know it's

:04:12. > :04:20.an issue not going away soon. In Essex, some drivers braved the

:04:21. > :04:24.floodwaters. More than half a dozen had to be rescued. Motorists... If

:04:25. > :04:31.you stop and think 'can I get through', the fact you've stopped

:04:32. > :04:34.probably means you can't. The weather has been exceptional. Three

:04:35. > :04:43.times the average rainfall. The Environment Agency has been showing

:04:44. > :05:02.off defence schemes. Today, the Agency's chairman said there is no

:05:03. > :05:08.bottomless purse. We're mindful of the benefits that these schemes can

:05:09. > :05:18.bring. We want to protect properties and jobs. The politicians decide

:05:19. > :05:21.where the money goes. Government engineers acknowledge some places

:05:22. > :05:30.may have to be sacrificed so others can be saved.

:05:31. > :05:33.A wealthy businessman from Norfolk is being touted tonight as the next

:05:34. > :05:36.chairman of the education watchdog Ofsted after the current chairman

:05:37. > :05:40.Sally Morgan was removed from the job. Theodore Agnew is the sponsor

:05:41. > :05:43.of a chain of new academy schools in Norfolk and a Tory supporter but

:05:44. > :05:50.some teaching unions don't like the idea. The appointment raises serious

:05:51. > :05:59.concerns about how independent Ofsted will continue to be. There

:06:00. > :06:02.are already concerns. To put somebody in so close to government

:06:03. > :06:07.raises questions about whether he can operate effectively in an

:06:08. > :06:11.independent manner. A secondary school in Norwich says

:06:12. > :06:14.five teachers could be facing the sack in order to save money. The

:06:15. > :06:18.Hewett School in Norwich has run up debts of ?600,000 over the last nine

:06:19. > :06:20.years. It blames a big fall in pupil numbers ` they've more than halved

:06:21. > :06:41.during that time. Time now for the weather. A band of

:06:42. > :06:51.rain moving towards us. Most of it light and patchy. Drier skies

:06:52. > :07:01.following. Temperatures close to freezing. Perhaps some frost.

:07:02. > :07:10.Tomorrow, a largely fine and dry day. Perhaps sunshine at times.

:07:11. > :07:37.Highs of eight Celsius. Winds picking up. Here's the outlook.

:07:38. > :07:44.Good evening. As you have just heard on your local forecast there is more

:07:45. > :07:48.wind and rain to come. The story is dominated by two potent areas of low

:07:49. > :07:50.pressure. There are parts of the world that need the rain at the

:07:51. > :07:51.moment, let
