:00:00. > :00:12.Much more throughout the evening on the BBC News channel. We are

:00:13. > :00:20.Hello. I'm Tom Williams. Part of the centre of Bedford was

:00:21. > :00:24.sealed off today as crews tackled a big fire. It broke out in an office

:00:25. > :00:26.block and took firefighters nearly ten hours to put out, as Ben Bland

:00:27. > :00:30.reports. 30 firefighters worked through the

:00:31. > :00:33.night to tackle this fire in the old town hall in Bedford. They were

:00:34. > :00:36.called at 3am. By then, it had spread across three floors. Some

:00:37. > :00:40.surrounding streets remained closed into this afternoon. The fire was

:00:41. > :00:44.fairly quickly knocked down from the outside of the building but because

:00:45. > :00:47.of the size and complexity of the building, and the fact that it

:00:48. > :00:50.presents some risk to us because it is under demolition, progress was

:00:51. > :00:57.then slow and cautious to make sure the fire was fully out. The 1960s

:00:58. > :01:03.office block is derelict and due to be demolished. But if the fire had

:01:04. > :01:06.not been brought under control, it could have damaged neighbouring

:01:07. > :01:08.buildings. Yes, I mean either side of this building we have really

:01:09. > :01:11.important buildings that we are keeping, they're not being

:01:12. > :01:14.demolished. And thank God for the firefighters who put their lives on

:01:15. > :01:19.the line and put themselves in harm's way to make sure that it was

:01:20. > :01:22.put out safely and no one was hurt. These buildings were protected. The

:01:23. > :01:25.building has no electricity or gas connected. An investigation will now

:01:26. > :01:30.look at whether this fire was started deliberately.

:01:31. > :01:33.A man wanted over the shooting of a traveller near Stevenage has been

:01:34. > :01:36.arrested in Denmark. The victim, Thomas Ward, died from a gunshot

:01:37. > :01:40.wound to the chest at a caravan site in Dyes Lane last April. His second

:01:41. > :01:47.cousin, John Boy Ward, was arrested near Copenhagen on suspicion of

:01:48. > :01:51.conspiracy to commit murder. There are still 25 flood warnings in

:01:52. > :01:54.force in the region, with the prospect of more rain to come

:01:55. > :01:57.overnight. Rivers in several areas, including here on the Suffolk`Essex

:01:58. > :02:02.border, are still swollen. The Environment Agency says it's keeping

:02:03. > :02:05.an eye on water levels. The Suffolk MP Tim Yeo says the

:02:06. > :02:09.Conservative party is increasingly dominated by activists with extreme

:02:10. > :02:12.views on Europe and gay marriage. The member for South Suffolk was

:02:13. > :02:17.deselected by his local party this week. He's told the Daily Telegraph

:02:18. > :02:21.that the Tories should not be letting UKIP dictate their agenda.

:02:22. > :02:26.And there'll be more on this in Sunday Politics tomorrow morning on

:02:27. > :02:29.BBC One at 11am. In the football today, an unexpected

:02:30. > :02:33.but excellent point for Norwich against Manchester City. It ended

:02:34. > :02:37.goalless at Carrow Road. Gary Hooper had a first half goal disallowed for

:02:38. > :02:40.Norwich and while the visitors dominated possession, the Canaries

:02:41. > :02:42.had two phenomenal chances to win it late on. But neither Ricky van

:02:43. > :02:47.Wolfswinkel nor Anthony Pilkington could convert. Norwich remain two

:02:48. > :02:51.points clear of the Premier League drop`zone. We are playing a team

:02:52. > :02:56.that can score goals as readily, almost, as what they want to. But

:02:57. > :03:00.also, I think it's the manner in which we finished the game. It

:03:01. > :03:03.wasn't one where we sat back didn't look for opportunities ourselves. We

:03:04. > :03:07.ended up getting into two very good positions very, very late in the

:03:08. > :03:12.game and of course, positions that could have seen us win the game.

:03:13. > :03:16.In the Championship, Ipswich scored twice in the last ten minutes to

:03:17. > :03:19.earn a draw at Barnsley. Christophe Berra on 81 then David McGoldrick's

:03:20. > :03:24.free`kick three minutes later means Town close the gap on the play`off

:03:25. > :03:27.places to just three points. Result of the day in League One for

:03:28. > :03:31.Peterborough. Britt Assombalonga and Tommy Rowe scored twice in the final

:03:32. > :03:34.three minutes to claim a 2`1 win. Posh back in the play`offs.

:03:35. > :03:37.Colchester and Stevenage's games were off.

:03:38. > :03:40.While MK Dons claimed a much needed win at Walsall. Izale McLeod scored

:03:41. > :03:43.twice. Not a good day in League Two.

:03:44. > :03:46.Defeats for Southend and Northampton. Ryan Leonard scored the

:03:47. > :03:50.Blues' goal. The Cobblers now cut adrift at the

:03:51. > :03:53.bottom, seven points from safety. Just underway in the rugby `

:03:54. > :03:56.Northampton playing Exeter. Saints could go top of the

:03:57. > :03:59.Premiership tonight after leaders Saracens slipped up at home to

:04:00. > :04:07.London Irish. No score just yet. Bedford lost in the Championship,

:04:08. > :04:09.going down 32`19 against Bristol. Time for the weather, with Georgina

:04:10. > :04:13.Burnett. Good evening. I'm afraid it's going

:04:14. > :04:17.to be a wet and windy night for some of us tonight. We have got some of

:04:18. > :04:19.those heavy showers but also a strong south`westerly wind

:04:20. > :04:23.continuing. So these showers pushing north eastwards through the night.

:04:24. > :04:26.For some of us not so bad but fairly heavy in parts. In those strong

:04:27. > :04:31.winds not particularly pleasant, with temperatures down to four or

:04:32. > :04:35.five Celsius. Now tomorrow, not so much in the way of sunshine. We are

:04:36. > :04:39.fairly spoiled in some parts today. The best of the sunshine will be in

:04:40. > :04:42.the afternoon. We've also got some more showers and the strong winds

:04:43. > :04:48.continue. Temperatures reaching six or seven Celsius tomorrow. Now,

:04:49. > :04:52.Monday morning ` ice may be an issue as it is going to be a cold start to

:04:53. > :04:56.the day, particularly with saturated ground. Tuesday and Wednesday, we

:04:57. > :04:59.have got some more wet and windy weather on the way.

:05:00. > :05:00.That's it from me. We're back tomorrow at 5:50pm and 10:15pm. Till

:05:01. > :05:17.then, have a good night. Good evening. Unfortunately I don't

:05:18. > :05:21.have much good news in this forecast. There may be a brief

:05:22. > :05:24.respite later tomorrow with the wind and the rain but it will not be long

:05:25. > :05:29.enough and we have today's storm withers, pounding many coastlines in

:05:30. > :05:33.the south and west, hence the Amber wind warning from the Met Office. It

:05:34. > :05:35.is a windy day across the board and it is not just the wind that is a

:05:36. > :05:37.concern.
