:00:14. > :00:21.Good evening. I'm Tom Williams. A big clear`up operation is underway

:00:22. > :00:25.after violent winds swept the region, disrupting travel and

:00:26. > :00:28.bringing down hundreds of trees. Buildings have been damaged,

:00:29. > :00:31.thousands of homes blacked out and scores of roads have been blocked.

:00:32. > :00:39.The highest gusts of wind were recorded at nearly 70mph.

:00:40. > :00:42.The roof of a school sports hall in Northamptonshire peeled back by the

:00:43. > :00:48.force of the wind in the early hours. It has left the Manor School

:00:49. > :00:52.and Sports College in Raunds facing a major repair programme. The top

:00:53. > :00:55.layer of one half of the sports hall roof is completely lifted. All the

:00:56. > :00:59.insulation and the rubberised membrane. There is some damage to

:01:00. > :01:02.the brickwork at the top so they must have been very powerful winds.

:01:03. > :01:05.At Chatteris in Cambridgeshire, a former antique shop was simply

:01:06. > :01:08.flattened. Neighbours said someone was sleeping here but luckily he was

:01:09. > :01:11.not in when the building collapsed at two o'clock this morning. The

:01:12. > :01:14.wind was unbelievable, the trees and hedges were virtually bent right

:01:15. > :01:20.over. I have never known anything like it. The wind was enough to blow

:01:21. > :01:23.this wall flat in Leighton Buzzard and the roof of the Imperial War

:01:24. > :01:27.Museum has again been damaged, closing it for the second time in

:01:28. > :01:37.six weeks. The damage is still being assessed at the moment. What has

:01:38. > :01:40.happened overnight with the extreme wind and weather conditions is that

:01:41. > :01:44.there has been some damage to the roof. We cannot get anyone up there

:01:45. > :01:47.to assess the damage due to the extreme weather so we will be

:01:48. > :01:50.assessing the conditions on Monday. Trains between Ely and Norwich were

:01:51. > :01:53.suspended while trees were cleared from the track. This bridge was

:01:54. > :01:57.closed for 11 hours, and Highways Agency cameras showed the queues

:01:58. > :02:00.that built up when the A14 was shut at Huntingdon to recover the lorry

:02:01. > :02:04.that had been blown over. Near Sudbury, two drivers were sitting in

:02:05. > :02:07.their cars when a tree blew down onto them outside a pub. The wind

:02:08. > :02:11.was just absolutely ferocious. As they got into the cars to move them,

:02:12. > :02:15.the tree came down on top of them. It was amazing, neither of them were

:02:16. > :02:17.hurt, they came into the pub and enjoyed a beer afterwards.

:02:18. > :02:20.Electricity engineers have been working to repair damage caused by

:02:21. > :02:23.falling trees, like this one near Brentwood. 11,000 homes and

:02:24. > :02:26.businesses were cut off. Tonight, around 5000 remain without power.

:02:27. > :02:29.Four men have been remanded in custody until next month, accused of

:02:30. > :02:36.murdering a rap artist in Bedford. Isaac Stone was 19 and was known as

:02:37. > :02:42.Dynamike. He was stabbed to death in Costin Street last month.

:02:43. > :02:44.In the football today, Ipswich missed the chance to move into the

:02:45. > :02:48.Championship play`off places. They drew 0`0 with Blackpool. It means

:02:49. > :02:50.Town stay eighth, two points off the top six.

:02:51. > :02:56.In League One, Ben Reeves scored a last minute winner for MK Dons. They

:02:57. > :02:59.beat Oldham 2`1. Stevenage conceded a couple of minutes from time to

:03:00. > :03:03.lose at Rotherham. They stay bottom. The Dons are tenth, seven points off

:03:04. > :03:05.the play`offs. Two games last night. No goals in either of the games

:03:06. > :03:08.involving Peterborough or Colchester. This the closest Posh

:03:09. > :03:11.came. Michael Bostwick's shot falling to Britt Assombalonga, who

:03:12. > :03:20.couldn't convert. Peterborough are sixth. They decided quite wisely to

:03:21. > :03:28.take the wind in the first half and that made it difficult for us to get

:03:29. > :03:32.out of our half because of the wind. In the second half, we came on a lot

:03:33. > :03:36.stronger, and on another night, we could have won by a couple, but both

:03:37. > :03:38.teams tried to play, but it was extremely difficult.

:03:39. > :03:41.In League Two, Northampton are still bottom. They lost 2`0 at Fleetwood.

:03:42. > :03:45.Southend let in two goals in the final ten minutes, going down 3`2 at

:03:46. > :03:48.home to Exeter. In rugby, Northampton are back on

:03:49. > :03:51.top of the Premiership. They scored three tries to beat Worcester, who

:03:52. > :03:55.had a man sent off. Last night, Bedford's game was called off due to

:03:56. > :03:57.the weather. ?? new line Let's get the weather now, with Kate Kinsella.

:03:58. > :04:00.had a man sent off. Last Good evening. Those damaging winds

:04:01. > :04:03.from the last 24 hours gradually started to ease through the course

:04:04. > :04:06.of today. Tonight will be cold and clear which means the temperature

:04:07. > :04:10.will drop, for some round about zero. There is a weather warning for

:04:11. > :04:13.ice for first thing tomorrow morning. This could be out towards

:04:14. > :04:16.the countryside, and more sheltered spots. It does mean clear skies.

:04:17. > :04:22.Blue sky and sunshine, really uninterrupted through the whole of

:04:23. > :04:24.tomorrow. The winds will be lighter and temperatures around eight

:04:25. > :04:30.degrees. On Monday, some cloud around. A bit of a breeze, but

:04:31. > :04:32.nothing on the scale of the last few days.

:04:33. > :04:35.That's it. We are back tomorrow at quarter`past six and the later time

:04:36. > :04:37.of quarter`past 11. See you then, goodbye.
