:00:00. > :00:10.gone wrong with Wales? But now on BBC One, it's time for

:00:11. > :00:20.Good evening. Police have described an attack on an 89`year`old woman in

:00:21. > :00:24.Suffolk as despicable. She is now recovering after being knocked down

:00:25. > :00:28.by three masked men at her home in Lakenheath last night. This morning,

:00:29. > :00:33.police presence remained outside the bungalow which was the scene of this

:00:34. > :00:37.attack. The 89`year`old was in her living room when she heard a loud

:00:38. > :00:41.bang at the front door, got up, to see what was happening. She told

:00:42. > :00:45.police the three men broke into the property and struck her. She said

:00:46. > :00:49.they were wearing dark clothing and had their faces covered. She said

:00:50. > :00:53.they went through some of her belongings during a search before

:00:54. > :00:56.leaving the property. Police said once she had been knocked to the

:00:57. > :01:01.floor, one of the men demanded money. The pensioner was taken to

:01:02. > :01:08.hospital with a cut to her head and kept in overnight. The attack has

:01:09. > :01:17.shocked people living on the estate. It is just so sad. Somebody elderly

:01:18. > :01:21.on their own, what chance have they got against thugs? It is a sad

:01:22. > :01:27.reflection of what is happening in a lot of communities. Police are keen

:01:28. > :01:33.to trace three men seen in a black Vauxhall car in the back lane area

:01:34. > :01:39.of Lakenheath last night. This is just really nasty, this lady is very

:01:40. > :01:44.vulnerable, is needlessly attacked, probably for money. Police said

:01:45. > :01:47.tonight the victim has now been released from hospital, has been

:01:48. > :01:57.given all the help and support she needs, but detectives fear she may

:01:58. > :02:02.never recover from the ordeal. Next week, this is where a delegate of ``

:02:03. > :02:08.delegation of experts will be heading, Shanghai. They will be

:02:09. > :02:13.headed by Norfolk MP Liz Truss, they will find out how the Chinese teach

:02:14. > :02:20.maths. In the most recent league table, Shanghai is top. The UK is

:02:21. > :02:24.26. The Hethel Engineering Centre hosts companies which specialise in

:02:25. > :02:29.the motor engineering industry, they say they need more qualified school

:02:30. > :02:35.leavers. These businesses will grow in Norfolk using local workforce. ``

:02:36. > :02:39.they will not grow using local workforce, they will need to look

:02:40. > :02:45.further afield and recruit from abroad if they cannot find it in the

:02:46. > :02:50.UK. There is the warning. Dame Rachel de Souza is part of the

:02:51. > :02:55.delegation, she joins us live. What do you hope to learn? I think there

:02:56. > :02:58.are some really distinct teaching methods we want to look at. They

:02:59. > :03:06.start teaching arithmetic very young, out in China. It is very

:03:07. > :03:09.intense. The children are learning times tables, doing basic

:03:10. > :03:17.arithmetic, doing their homework and not leaving without having learned

:03:18. > :03:26.their maths. Some very distinct teaching. Is this not to do with

:03:27. > :03:32.culture rather than teaching? I'm really looking forward to seeing the

:03:33. > :03:36.Chinese parents, they really focus on mathematics, very competitive,

:03:37. > :03:44.and they want children to do well in tests. We want to see how big an

:03:45. > :03:49.issue that is in Shanghai. I have to say, the report compares a city,

:03:50. > :03:56.Shanghai, with the whole of the UK, isn't that rather absurd? Shanghai

:03:57. > :04:00.is huge, 20 million people, so it is a fair comparison. But we are going

:04:01. > :04:07.to a deprived area, and to Beijing as well. The effect still carries.

:04:08. > :04:12.Migrant workers and more deprived areas still have the Shanghai

:04:13. > :04:17.effect. The results are high and we have a lot to learn. Thanks for

:04:18. > :04:20.joining us. The increase in the number of people turning up at

:04:21. > :04:27.accident and emergency departments is pretty stark. 18 million in 2005

:04:28. > :04:36.rose to 21 million by last year. That is why local hospitals are

:04:37. > :04:39.experimenting with new ways to deal with the surge. The latest to make

:04:40. > :04:41.changes is the Queen Elizabeth in King's Lynn. What are you here for

:04:42. > :04:46.today? A college ambulatory emergency care. This staff nurse is

:04:47. > :04:52.attending to a man who suffered a hypoglycaemic collapse. He will be

:04:53. > :04:55.seeing a consultant very soon. People like myself with chronic

:04:56. > :05:05.conditions need places like this where they can drop in. The unit can

:05:06. > :05:11.deal with 16 common emergency conditions, so where does it get its

:05:12. > :05:13.patients? Like Anthony, they can be diverted from accident and

:05:14. > :05:19.emergency, they can be referred from the medical assessment unit, or they

:05:20. > :05:33.can be referred by their own GP, who has direct access. The average

:05:34. > :05:40.turnaround is six `` nine minutes. They are getting prompt treatment

:05:41. > :05:47.from treatment to discharge in one day. The morale is high here and the

:05:48. > :05:51.team will be expanded. There is genuine enthusiasm over what has

:05:52. > :05:53.been achieved, not least the saving of hundreds of overnight stays in

:05:54. > :05:57.hospital that are no longer required. The goal is to have the

:05:58. > :06:03.unit up and running eventually around the clock.

:06:04. > :06:11.The amount spent on youth services in Essex is to be cut by more than

:06:12. > :06:14.half. The county council currently spends ?5 million on services for

:06:15. > :06:20.13`19 `year`olds, despite protests it will be cut. They are not

:06:21. > :06:24.proposing any cuts to youth clubs but want to see them run by

:06:25. > :06:28.volunteers. Campaigners are fighting to save a Victorian church in Essex

:06:29. > :06:33.from demolition. St Peter's Church has fallen into disrepair. The

:06:34. > :06:36.Church of England wants to knock it down but preservation groups say

:06:37. > :06:40.that would be a great loss. Now the weather.

:06:41. > :06:43.that would be a great loss. Now the Good evening. The showers from

:06:44. > :06:46.earlier have cleared away so the rest of the night looks dry. Some

:06:47. > :06:49.clear spells out there, the potential is there for some chilly

:06:50. > :06:54.temperatures which might bring a touch of ground frost. We start

:06:55. > :06:57.tomorrow quite chilly but not bad. It will soon warm up and it'll be

:06:58. > :07:03.quite mild through the day. There will be quite a lot of crowd ``

:07:04. > :07:06.cloud around. In the afternoon it is looking brighter with some sunshine

:07:07. > :07:10.breaking through and temperatures climbing to 10 Celsius. Largely

:07:11. > :07:15.drive for the afternoon. The next weather front pushing through from

:07:16. > :07:21.the West will bring some patchy rain overnight. That means a wetter days

:07:22. > :07:24.on the car. `` on the cards. In a moment we will have the National

:07:25. > :07:28.forecast but I will leave you with the Outlook. The wind will pick up,

:07:29. > :07:31.some showers or longer spells of rain. It looks for Friday but it

:07:32. > :07:34.will certainly feel with some rain around. Nothing too

:07:35. > :07:40.heavy. More international weather next.

:07:41. > :07:47.Good evening. Whilst today did bring some heavy showers, they moved

:07:48. > :07:51.through quite quickly. For much of tomorrow, it will stay dry if a bit

:07:52. > :07:57.cloudy and relatively mild. Patchy cloud at the moment. There will be

:07:58. > :07:59.some rain later in the day on Wednesday. Any rain through the

:08:00. > :08:03.night Wednesday. Any rain through the

:08:04. > :08:13.light. We will see some occasional breaks in the cloud. Foremost, it is

:08:14. > :08:17.a touch cooler it was last night. It is a rather murky start with a lot

:08:18. > :08:23.of cloud. Some patchy rain around first thing. Much of the cloud

:08:24. > :08:28.should lift. A few brighter spells developing and just a few showers

:08:29. > :08:31.around. Into the afternoon, a good deal of dry weather. Some brighter

:08:32. > :08:37.spells across parts of the northern isles. Overall full Scotland, we are

:08:38. > :08:43.sticking with a a lot of cloud. A grey afternoon and patchy light rain

:08:44. > :08:44.and drizzle. A few showers across parts of northern England.
