:00:19. > :00:21.been found dead in prison. Simon Hall was jailed for life in 2003 for

:00:22. > :00:25.stabbing 79`year`old Joan Albert to death at her home in Suffolk. For

:00:26. > :00:29.years he claimed he was innocent. But last year he admitted the

:00:30. > :00:32.murder. Hall was found dead in his cell this morning. Simon Newton

:00:33. > :00:46.joins us now from the newsroom. Simon, this was a notorious case.

:00:47. > :00:51.Yes, largely because of Simon Hall's attempt to have his

:00:52. > :00:56.conviction overturned. Joan Albert was seen shopping in the local

:00:57. > :01:01.spermatic 24 hours before she was murdered. She was stabbed in her

:01:02. > :01:05.home five times. Simon Hall was convicted of her murder in 2003

:01:06. > :01:11.largely on friends gathered in is. He spent the next 12 years trying to

:01:12. > :01:17.overturn that conviction. He won the backing of MPs and appeared on the

:01:18. > :01:22.BBC's Rough Justice programme. But last year he made this dramatic

:01:23. > :01:27.confession. The prison service said this morning that he was found in

:01:28. > :01:32.his cell at around 5:30am this morning in an unresponsive state,

:01:33. > :01:36.you was later pronounced dead by paramedics. There is no official

:01:37. > :01:40.word on how he died, an investigation by the prisons

:01:41. > :01:52.ombudsman is on its way. There has been no statement by Joan Albert's

:01:53. > :01:55.family today. In other news two pedestrians have

:01:56. > :01:56.died on Norfolk's roads in separate accidents.

:01:57. > :01:59.Yesterday afternoon a woman was killed at Caister`on`Sea after a

:02:00. > :02:03.collision involving a bus. Then last night a man died on the A146 in

:02:04. > :02:05.Stockton after a crash involving a BMW.

:02:06. > :02:08.Campaigners have staged a meeting in Bedford to try to get its Italian

:02:09. > :02:11.consulate reopened. Bedford has a large Italian population and there

:02:12. > :02:15.was anger when the consulate suddenly shut. Now an Italian MP has

:02:16. > :02:22.flown in to meet the protestors. This Italian MP flew into Bedford to

:02:23. > :02:29.lend his support to the campaign to reopen Italy's's consulate. The

:02:30. > :02:34.protest march, the lobbying, the Parliamentary questions that have

:02:35. > :02:37.happened about Bedford and Rome has become a real trailblazer, it has

:02:38. > :02:39.become the place that other places in Europe who are having their

:02:40. > :02:47.offices closed down and are looking to. It was the brick industry that

:02:48. > :02:52.first attracted Italians to Bedford. Some 20,000 people have now made

:02:53. > :02:57.Bedford their home. At the heart of the community was this consulate,

:02:58. > :03:01.which provided advice and information and is you'd passports

:03:02. > :03:06.until it closed last month. The passport is not just for travel, it

:03:07. > :03:12.is for everyday life. For bank accounts, pensions. That is so

:03:13. > :03:14.important. A new Italian government was sworn in this weekend and

:03:15. > :03:19.campaigners say that they are confident it will now begin a review

:03:20. > :03:22.of this closure. A new fan group for members of the

:03:23. > :03:24.Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender communities has been

:03:25. > :03:27.launched at Norwich City today. Members of Proud Canaries were

:03:28. > :03:30.invited onto the pitch at half`time, during today's match against Spurs.

:03:31. > :03:33.Justin Fashanu's niece Amal was among those lending support. Stephen

:03:34. > :03:36.Fry is the group's honorary president.

:03:37. > :03:39.And in the game itself Norwich City recorded a vital home win. The

:03:40. > :03:43.Canaries went one up against Spurs at 47 minutes with this strike from
