:00:09. > :00:15.Good evening. I'm Jenny Kirk. First tonight, thousands of school

:00:16. > :00:17.children will be disrupted tomorrow as teachers will walk out in a row

:00:18. > :00:19.over pensions, workload and pay. as teachers will walk out in a row

:00:20. > :00:21.over pensions, workload and pay The latest figures we have are that 37

:00:22. > :00:24.schools in Essex will compldtely schools in Essex will completely

:00:25. > :00:28.close, as will 16 in Norfolk and 13 in Suffolk. This doesn't include

:00:29. > :00:33.academies, and all the councils say many more will be affected by

:00:34. > :00:35.partial closures. Striking teachers at a rally

:00:36. > :00:35.partial closures. Striking teachers at a rallx in

:00:36. > :00:39.Striking teachers at a rally in Ipswich last October, a scene set to

:00:40. > :00:41.be repeated tomorrow as members of the NUT walk out for a second time.

:00:42. > :00:44.Some schools are being forced to Some schools are being forcdd to

:00:45. > :00:45.close, among them St Alban's Catholic High School in Ipswich.

:00:46. > :00:45.close, among them St Alban's Catholic High School in Ipswich It

:00:46. > :00:51.Catholic High School in Ipswich. It is very tricky. Sometimes you just

:00:52. > :00:53.cannot get time off work. I just feel really sorry for the parents

:00:54. > :00:57.feel really sorry for the p`rents that had to arrange childcare. At

:00:58. > :00:59.Morland Primary in Ipswich, the school will be open, but not for

:01:00. > :01:01.year one pupils. Three membdrs school will be open, but not for

:01:02. > :01:03.year one pupils. Three members of year one pupils. Three membdrs of

:01:04. > :01:06.staff were expected to stay away. It is very difficult. It is striking

:01:07. > :01:08.the right balance. Our prim`ry concern is educating children, but

:01:09. > :01:11.concern is educating childrdn, but when people feel very strongly about

:01:12. > :01:13.outside influences, it is not for me to say "you're not allowed to do

:01:14. > :01:16.that". I think teachers have to say "you're not allowed to do

:01:17. > :01:21.that". I think teachers havd to follow their conscience. I think it

:01:22. > :01:24.is disappointing because it has a detrimental effect on children's

:01:25. > :01:32.education and to the parents. We would hope, in general, there could

:01:33. > :01:35.be other ways of resolving. The government has been promising to

:01:36. > :01:42.talk to us since our last strike, six months ago. It has only just

:01:43. > :01:43.come to the table, but they are only willing to talk about the

:01:44. > :01:45.implementation of the poliches willing to talk about the

:01:46. > :01:47.implementation of the policies and implementation of the poliches and

:01:48. > :01:49.not the policies themselves. So for now, there's no sign of an end

:01:50. > :01:50.not the policies themselves. So for now, there's no sign of an dnd to a

:01:51. > :01:53.now, there's no sign of an end to a dispute which, once again, could hit

:01:54. > :02:01.several hundred schools across our region.

:02:02. > :02:02.This is a changing situation, and your BBC local radio station will

:02:03. > :02:04.keep you completely up to d`te your BBC local radio station will

:02:05. > :02:06.keep you completely up to date with which schools are closed tolorrow

:02:24. > :02:27.of Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex have the largest number of elderly people

:02:28. > :02:31.in the country, but money is skewed instead to more deprived areas.

:02:32. > :02:34.At this surgery in Beccles hn At this surgery in Beccles in

:02:35. > :02:35.Suffolk, they say it is an increasingly elderly population that

:02:36. > :02:38.is putting a strain on servhces increasingly elderly population that

:02:39. > :02:42.is putting a strain on services. It has become even more severe over the

:02:43. > :02:48.last few years. We are seeing many practices struggling to sustain

:02:49. > :02:51.their workload. Many blame the funding formula. Therese Coffey

:02:52. > :02:56.telling MPs that it is discriminating against elderly

:02:57. > :02:59.people. We say that we do not to discriminate on age, yet sadly, the

:03:00. > :03:00.postcode lottery does seem to determine about where you live in

:03:01. > :03:04.determine about where you lhve in the country and whether or not

:03:05. > :03:08.elderly patients get the care and treatment they deserve. She has

:03:09. > :03:11.produced figures that show that North Norfolk has the highest

:03:12. > :03:18.percentage of people over the age of 65 in the country at 27%. West

:03:19. > :03:22.Norfolk, Waveney and North`Dast Essex also have high numbers. They

:03:23. > :03:26.received around ?1,200 per patient on the NHS. At the top of the list

:03:27. > :03:30.are urban areas that get up to ?300 are urban areas that get up to ?300

:03:31. > :03:34.more than us, but have fewer elderly patients. Historically, rural

:03:36. > :03:39.places. Therefore, they werd counties were deemed to be healthier

:03:40. > :03:40.places. Therefore, they were given places. Therefore, they werd given

:03:41. > :03:44.less money. I think that has fundamentally changed. The health

:03:45. > :03:51.minister and Suffolk MP Dan Poulter said that the funding formula was

:03:52. > :03:54.much fairer than it used to be. NHS England said that is does not

:03:55. > :03:56.discriminate against the elderly, but MPs will keep up the fight.

:03:57. > :03:59.Andrew Sinclair. And the pressure but MPs will keep up the fight.

:04:00. > :04:01.Andrew Sinclair. And the prdssure on health services dealing with an

:04:02. > :04:04.aging population was an isste discussed at the Norfolk and Norwich

:04:05. > :04:07.Hospital tonight. It's informing the five`year plan that the Chidf

:04:08. > :04:09.Executive revealed this evening Simon Newton was there to hear

:04:10. > :04:09.Executive revealed this evening. Simon Newton was there to hdar all

:04:10. > :04:17.Simon Newton was there to hear all about it. Nearly half the p`tients

:04:18. > :04:23.about it. Nearly half the patients who use this hospital over the age

:04:24. > :04:28.of 65. The Chief Executive set out, this evening, how this hospital with

:04:29. > :04:30.deal with that and challengds over the next five years. She said it

:04:31. > :04:33.the next five years. She sahd it will be tough financially but there

:04:34. > :04:38.will be tough financially btt there will be capital investment. There

:04:39. > :04:45.will be a new IT system and it will extend the operating theatrds. They

:04:46. > :04:50.will also expand accident and emergency. She told me that hospital

:04:51. > :04:57.is dealing with double the number of cases it was designed to have.

:04:58. > :04:59.Despite good effort on staff, it has reached bursting point. The A

:05:00. > :05:02.department was designed for 56,000 patients. We currently see nearly

:05:03. > :05:05.100,000 patients through that department. So it is under huge

:05:06. > :05:08.pressure. Our staff have done a fantastic job. We're constantly

:05:09. > :05:12.re`looking at our processes and how we can see patients more safely and

:05:13. > :05:15.efficiently, but there is a limit to how much you can do without

:05:16. > :05:26.increasing the physical capacity of the area. We do know that h`lf of

:05:27. > :05:30.the area. We do know that half of the IT system cost is coming from a

:05:31. > :05:35.national fund. She said she is delighted that this hospital has

:05:36. > :05:39.achieved grade six standards, which means it is amongst the top

:05:40. > :05:43.hospitals in the country. She said that she personally raped every

:05:44. > :05:46.reply letter to any complaint that comes into the hospital. She feels

:05:47. > :05:50.comes into the hospital. Shd feels ashamed when they get things wrong.

:05:51. > :05:54.Southend Airport has announced that Flybe will start flying six routes

:05:55. > :05:58.from this June, creating 60 new jobs. Eight years ago, Flybd started

:05:59. > :06:01.running 15 routes from Norwich. Now it only runs four. But Southend is

:06:02. > :06:06.confident it will bring in 200,000 more passengers by next year.

:06:07. > :06:08.A couple of football results to tell you about tonight. In the

:06:09. > :06:10.Championship, Ipswich 2`1 Derby. And Championship, Ipswich 2`1 Derby. And

:06:11. > :06:20.in League One, Wolves 4`2 Colchester.

:06:21. > :06:23.A collection of paintings that belonged to a Newmarket millionaire

:06:24. > :06:26.fetched ?15 million at a Sotheby's auction this evening. The 13

:06:27. > :06:27.paintings by artist LS Lowry auction this evening. The 13

:06:28. > :06:31.paintings by artist LS Lowry were collected by Tony Thompson, who died

:06:32. > :06:36.last year. The highest bid for one of the paintings was ?5 million.

:06:37. > :06:40.of the paintings was ?5 million That's the way the news looks

:06:41. > :06:43.tonight. You can keep up to date with more news on your BBC local

:06:44. > :06:44.website and radio station. Look East is back with breakfast bulldtins

:06:45. > :06:48.is back with breakfast bulletins from 6:25am tomorrow. So it's

:06:49. > :06:49.goodnight from me and I'll leave you with the weather from Alex.

:06:50. > :06:52.website and radio station. Look East Good evening. It is going to get

:06:53. > :06:56.quite cold tonight, certainly cold enough for a touch of frost as we

:06:57. > :07:00.get some clear spells over the next few hours. There will be more patchy

:07:01. > :07:03.cloud feeding in from the North Sea overnight which might produce an

:07:04. > :07:06.isolated shower, but not before temperatures have got down to one or

:07:07. > :07:09.two Celsius. We start tomorrow with a few showers, quite cloudy with

:07:10. > :07:11.showers becoming more widespread in the afternoon. They will merge

:07:12. > :07:12.together to bring longer spdlls the afternoon. They will merge

:07:13. > :07:16.together to bring longer spdlls of rain for counties in Norfolk and

:07:17. > :07:20.Suffolk. With a lot of cloud and a key northerly wind, it will feel

:07:21. > :07:22.quite raw with highs of just seven of eight Celsius and certainly more

:07:23. > :07:25.showers to come for the aftdrnoon. showers to come for the afternoon.

:07:26. > :07:26.In a moment, the national forecast, but here's our outlook. An hmproving

:07:27. > :07:28.but here's our outlook. An improving picture for Thursday with some

:07:29. > :07:29.showers becoming sunnier, btt rain showers becoming sunnier, btt rain

:07:30. > :07:36.by Friday. 10 degrees. The outlook, it stays

:07:37. > :07:41.chilly and temperatures look like they will pick up towards the eight

:07:42. > :07:45.-- weekend. In early spring, a bit of sunshine

:07:46. > :07:50.makes the difference. Today we had some sunshine in the far east of the

:07:51. > :07:54.UK and in the far west. In Northern Ireland and East Anglia,

:07:55. > :07:59.temperatures climbed into the teens. But for most of us, it was gloomy

:08:00. > :08:03.and temperatures were at sixes and sevens. Single figure temperatures

:08:04. > :08:08.will feature heavily over the next few days. We are already seeing the

:08:09. > :08:12.weather coming in from the east pushing the weather to the West so

:08:13. > :08:19.we will see showers continuing in the night. Isolated showers. Most

:08:20. > :08:23.towns and cities just about avoiding a frost but in rural areas we will

:08:24. > :08:28.seek pockets of frost and fog patches for the morning. Some

:08:29. > :08:32.showers across the West but it will brighten up in the West, however in

:08:33. > :08:33.the East the cloud thickens, the winds pick
