:00:00. > :00:00.Moyes has been sacked after a season of blue results. He spent just ten

:00:00. > :00:14.months in Welcome to the east. Tourisl bosses

:00:15. > :00:17.are calling it the best Easter in years. With numbers going through

:00:18. > :00:22.the roof, what does it mean for the summer season? As long as the

:00:23. > :00:28.weather stays on our side, ht will be a great year. Why did thd

:00:29. > :00:32.16`year`old hang herself at a children's home?

:00:33. > :00:37.Her inquest begins. The first women's tour of Britain.

:00:38. > :00:42.We speak to the stars. Britain has talent. The trahner

:00:43. > :00:52.Clive Brittain toxin that the favourite for the 1000 Guindas. ``

:00:53. > :00:56.talks about. Hello. First tonight a feel good

:00:57. > :00:59.factor at last for the tourhsm industry in this region. A late

:01:00. > :01:04.Easter and good weather combined to bring out the crowds in force. Some

:01:05. > :01:09.attractions reported a doubling of visitor numbers year on year. In a

:01:10. > :01:12.moment we'll hear from one of the region's tourism bosses, but first

:01:13. > :01:17.this report from our Chief Reporter Kim Riley.

:01:18. > :01:20.There were 10,000 bikes on show yesterday at Southend Shakedown s

:01:21. > :01:24.charity event boosting the numbers flocking to the seafront in

:01:25. > :01:27.Southend. Traders sent out `n SOS to the local factory when they ran out

:01:28. > :01:31.of ice cream. Up the coast hn Norfolk at Cromer, four months after

:01:32. > :01:34.the pier was damaged by the storm surge, people were enjoying the

:01:35. > :01:43.sunshine. Seafront traders were smiling. It is a good start. We

:01:44. > :01:47.often find Easter is cold when it is at the end of March so people don't

:01:48. > :01:51.come, but this year we have seen the opposite. People have come down and

:01:52. > :01:58.we appreciate the trade. It is exactly what we needed. It wasn t

:01:59. > :02:01.just the seaside resorts th`t were celebrating. A large number of

:02:02. > :02:07.attractions have noted imprdssive figures. The group which runs Banham

:02:08. > :02:14.Zoo said it had 7,500 visitors, more than double of last year. Whth

:02:15. > :02:20.Africa Alive near Lowestoft and the Dinosaur Adventure Park, thd group

:02:21. > :02:23.saw numbers top 20,000. Audley End House and Gardens said it h`d been

:02:24. > :02:32.fantastically busy with over 7, 00 visitors. We are deep in thd marshes

:02:33. > :02:34.in Norfolk right now and thhs is the world of BeWILDerwood, this

:02:35. > :02:42.adventure park has been another top performer. We are up 82% on last

:02:43. > :02:45.year. The last two years bedn very tough for those of us in Norfolk

:02:46. > :02:49.because the weather has been really tough. The recession has bedn tough.

:02:50. > :02:52.People are feeling a bit more confident with the pound in their

:02:53. > :03:02.pocket and they see better times ahead. That counts for a lot. Heavy

:03:03. > :03:05.traffic on the Broads yesterday Early reports from the day boat

:03:06. > :03:08.owners association are positive The Colne Valley Railway in Essdx also

:03:09. > :03:11.pulled in the crowds, adding to a picture of one of the region's vital

:03:12. > :03:17.industries, tourism, finallx getting up steam.

:03:18. > :03:21.Martin Dupee runs Banham Zoo, Africa Alive and the Dinosaur Park. He s

:03:22. > :03:24.also the chairman of the Norfolk Tourist Attractions Association

:03:25. > :03:33.Earlier this afternoon I asked him how this Easter had compared to

:03:34. > :03:36.others in recent years. If we compare with last year, the weather

:03:37. > :03:40.last year wasn't good at all which means it is easy to be up on that.

:03:41. > :03:44.But comparing to 2011, becatse that is a similar time of Easter, we re

:03:45. > :03:50.still doing very well compared to that and other attractions H've been

:03:51. > :03:54.speaking to report similar growth. How much is it down to the weather

:03:55. > :04:01.and how much to the feel`good factor? It is a little bit of both.

:04:02. > :04:04.Predominantly the weather. That makes a massive difference. We can

:04:05. > :04:09.feel good but if it is pourhng we will stay indoors. Money is all tied

:04:10. > :04:13.up with how the economy is doing. Do you think people are feeling more

:04:14. > :04:18.confident about spending money? I think generally there is th`t. There

:04:19. > :04:23.are some areas where people are still feeling the pinch and that

:04:24. > :04:27.will continue. But it is making sure they value the time they have got

:04:28. > :04:30.and they get out when they can. A few years ago we talked abott the

:04:31. > :04:34.staycation, whether that is still around I'm not sure. But thhs

:04:35. > :04:38.weekend all the caravan parks I have spoken to have been busy so people

:04:39. > :04:44.are coming out and spending time in the county. Do you think it is a lot

:04:45. > :04:50.of visitors to the region or people locally getting out and spending

:04:51. > :04:54.more money? It is a bit of both Not to make a simple answer, thhs is the

:04:55. > :05:00.first time that holiday`makdrs do come to the coast, the caravan parks

:05:01. > :05:04.are now open. People are out and about but it is also the tile when

:05:05. > :05:08.the majority do not go on holiday until summer. Some will takd a short

:05:09. > :05:16.break and the county is ide`l for this. How much is this a good omen

:05:17. > :05:23.for the summer? It is a fantastic omen. It is a long hard winter for

:05:24. > :05:28.Norfolk attractions. When wd've got a late Easter it makes it h`rder.

:05:29. > :05:33.Now that it is here, and it has been a good Easter for us, we ard set up

:05:34. > :05:37.for a good summer. As long `s the weather stays on our side, H think

:05:38. > :05:41.it will be a great year. Th`nk you very much. You are more than

:05:42. > :05:45.welcome. An inquest has been told th`t over a

:05:46. > :05:48.two month period the police had been called ten times to deal with a

:05:49. > :05:52.teenager who eventually hanged herself in a children's homd. The

:05:53. > :05:55.body of Becky Watkins was found at the Evergreen Home in Brandon in

:05:56. > :05:58.June 2009. The court also hdard concerns about whether staff at the

:05:59. > :06:04.home had kept each other informed. Ian Barmer is in Bury St Edlunds

:06:05. > :06:11.now. Becky Watkins was found hanged from a wardrobe for in her room at

:06:12. > :06:18.his children's home. She was 16 and from Braintree in Essex. Shd had a

:06:19. > :06:23.short but troubled life. We had evidence of family problems, health

:06:24. > :06:28.problems and mental health problems. She was on the child protection

:06:29. > :06:35.register and had been put in foster care. 2008 she took a paracdtamol

:06:36. > :06:40.overdose. 2009 she was secthoned under the mental health act. In

:06:41. > :06:45.April 2009, she was sent to the Evergreen home. The inquest heard

:06:46. > :06:52.when she was there she was diagnosed with depression, post`traum`tic

:06:53. > :06:56.stress disorder. And suicid`l disorders. She told a friend she was

:06:57. > :07:01.going to kill herself and s`id she was exhausted at having to put on a

:07:02. > :07:07.brave face all the time. In the two months she was at the home, Suffolk

:07:08. > :07:10.police were there ten times to deal with incidents involving her. Are

:07:11. > :07:15.they saying her death could have been prevented? We heard evhdence

:07:16. > :07:20.from a senior care assistant who said Becky had told a colle`gue a

:07:21. > :07:25.few days before that she was going to kill herself. Two days bdfore she

:07:26. > :07:29.did it. The care assistant said she did not know about this and if she

:07:30. > :07:34.had, she would've told the night shift and the girl would not have

:07:35. > :07:37.been left alone. She was chdcked every ten or 15 minutes so that is

:07:38. > :07:45.no suggestion the staff werd not doing their job. This inquest summed

:07:46. > :07:48.up the plight of Becky Watkhns. An inquest told the court she was a

:07:49. > :07:54.girl who did not see herself with a future. Thank you very much.

:07:55. > :07:58.The owners of a series of l`kes near King's Lynn where two peopld died

:07:59. > :08:01.last year have received mord than 400 suggestions on what thex should

:08:02. > :08:04.do with the site. Swimming remains banned at Bawsey Pits but it's

:08:05. > :08:10.proved impossible to keep pdople out. Dawn Gerber has this rdport.

:08:11. > :08:15.For years this was an industrial site used for extracting sand and

:08:16. > :08:21.gravel. Since then it has bden in unofficial leisure park and the ban

:08:22. > :08:25.on swimming is ignored. Last summer this man try to find a teen`ger who

:08:26. > :08:32.had gone missing in the watdr. Both drowned. Now there are moves to

:08:33. > :08:37.prevent further tragedies. New safety signs and a great reference

:08:38. > :08:41.have been devised. Since thd incident last summer we havd large

:08:42. > :08:47.pictures of the leaks. This allows us to conduct a thorough se`rch

:08:48. > :08:56.across each leak to make sure we do not miss anywhere. The owners of the

:08:57. > :09:00.water State safety is and always has been a number one priority. The

:09:01. > :09:06.companies say they want to hmprove the site and are seeking thd views

:09:07. > :09:13.of local people on what thex want. Since the 1st of April they have had

:09:14. > :09:19.over 400 responses. Suggesthons include developing it as I water

:09:20. > :09:24.centre, an eco`lodge and having a cafe on site. The coroner who

:09:25. > :09:28.conducted the inquest is also compiling a report on action needed

:09:29. > :09:42.to improve the site. Local people have until the end of the month to

:09:43. > :09:45.have their say. A brother and sister who helped

:09:46. > :09:48.rescue the sole survivor of a merchant ship torpedoed off the

:09:49. > :09:51.Cornish coast during the Second World War have been traced to

:09:52. > :09:54.Norfolk `70 years on. The SS Gairsoppa sunk off Ireland with ?150

:09:55. > :09:57.million worth of silver on board. Denis Driver and Betty Broughton had

:09:58. > :09:59.been evacuated to the Lizard peninsula where the survivor was

:10:00. > :10:05.washed up. Betty and her brother had lhved in

:10:06. > :10:10.Norfolk for two decades. Thd thought the only ones still to be alive from

:10:11. > :10:15.the rescue and the enemies by recent attention. It is embarrassing

:10:16. > :10:22.really. Evacuated like thousands of others children, Betty was 04 and

:10:23. > :10:26.her brother just 12. She had been with friends walking on the clifftop

:10:27. > :10:31.watching a small boat being bashed against the rocks when they raised

:10:32. > :10:38.the alarm. At first there wdre several men in the boat but after a

:10:39. > :10:46.while, two or three of them drowned. We ran down to the boat and shouted

:10:47. > :10:52.at the man. I put my pixie food around his feet because he was so

:10:53. > :10:59.cold. The man was second officer Richard Ayers, the sole survivor. It

:11:00. > :11:04.had been torpedoed 13 days darlier. After `` out of 35 crewmen who made

:11:05. > :11:15.it to the lifeboats, he was the on the one to shore. Dennis believes

:11:16. > :11:19.his sister helped him save his life. It was seeing their sake th`t made

:11:20. > :11:23.this officer decide the safdst place for him should have been to remain

:11:24. > :11:28.in the boat otherwise he might try to get to shore. Months latdr they

:11:29. > :11:37.met the officer who wanted to thank them. I came across an article on

:11:38. > :11:41.the internets which had been written by the sole survivor. I realised it

:11:42. > :11:47.was the same story my father had written. The man who wrote the

:11:48. > :11:54.article, I managed to trace him I did not realise he had been trying

:11:55. > :11:59.to trace my auntie for years. The cargo has since been recovered.

:12:00. > :12:10.Later this year the rescuers will be presented with a coin made from the

:12:11. > :12:18.silver recovered. Still to come. Why are Newm`rket

:12:19. > :12:22.filly is favourite for the Guineas. And Luton Town celebrate a return to

:12:23. > :12:24.the football league with ch`mpagne and the champions later in the

:12:25. > :12:27.programme. There's exactly a month to go before

:12:28. > :12:32.the European elections and the campaign has started to hot up. The

:12:33. > :12:36.Prime Minister has spent thd day on tour while UKIP has ruffled feathers

:12:37. > :12:39.with its posters on immigration Today one of the smaller parties

:12:40. > :12:43.launched its campaign in thd region. The Green Party came very close to

:12:44. > :12:46.winning a seat here last tile round. So they are hoping for a

:12:47. > :12:55.breakthrough this time. This from our political correspondent Andrew

:12:56. > :12:59.Sinclair. The venue was a church in the centre

:13:00. > :13:03.of Cambridge, the turnout is not brilliant but the greens ard going

:13:04. > :13:08.into this campaign feeling very confident. Last time their top

:13:09. > :13:13.candidate came within 1% of winning a seat. This time his party leader

:13:14. > :13:17.thinks he can do it. The grden message is proving popular with

:13:18. > :13:22.young people and supporters of other parties, she says. There is a lot of

:13:23. > :13:28.disillusionment with the Lib Dems over the issue of tuition fdes and

:13:29. > :13:32.nuclear arms. Lots of labour people believe the final straw was Rachel

:13:33. > :13:38.Reeves seeing baby be toughdr on benefits and Tories. There `re also

:13:39. > :13:45.issues like green belt and financial regulation for the Tories. Not

:13:46. > :13:50.surprisingly, the party is talking a lot about green transport and energy

:13:51. > :13:55.but it will also focus on the growth of foodbanks in the region. It will

:13:56. > :13:59.publish figures showing how many people rely on them. The Grdens may

:14:00. > :14:05.be a small party in this cotntry but in the European party `` European

:14:06. > :14:12.Parliament the our big playdrs. Keith Taylor has been a Gredn MEP

:14:13. > :14:15.for the Southeast. The Greens in the European Parliament at the fourth

:14:16. > :14:22.largest political group. We sit on every committee. We cannot win every

:14:23. > :14:27.argument but we are certainly pushing the European Union hn a

:14:28. > :14:31.bullying direction. Over thd last decade they have built up a notable

:14:32. > :14:38.presence in the East, espechally Norwich. Since the last European

:14:39. > :14:42.elections, they gained their first MP at Westminster and have

:14:43. > :14:46.counsellors on to Essex county council for the first time. They

:14:47. > :14:50.have also started to lose some of their seats in Norfolk, leading

:14:51. > :14:57.critics to wonder if support is starting to Weaver. So to whn a seat

:14:58. > :15:01.this time round with silencd critics and be good for party morald.

:15:02. > :15:04.It was a day of joy and despair for two of our football teams ydsterday.

:15:05. > :15:08.Stevenage were relegated from League One after a fairy tale rise from the

:15:09. > :15:11.non league. But Luton Town `re looking forward to life back in the

:15:12. > :15:20.football league. Ten thousand fans were at Kenilworth Road yesterday

:15:21. > :15:25.for the game and a celebrathon. It is a prize which has eluded Luton

:15:26. > :15:33.year after year, one of football's toughest trophies to win. This time

:15:34. > :15:37.the result didn't matter. Already conference champions, but in fandom

:15:38. > :15:46.president could bask in the glory. This will do. Greatest day of the

:15:47. > :15:53.year. Michael Owen and his fellow directors, players, managers and

:15:54. > :15:57.fans all rallied to recover Luton Town of `` Luton Town's lost

:15:58. > :16:06.status. The secret of success was called and lots of them. `` Nick

:16:07. > :16:11.Owen. In years to come, whatever the club may go, I may not be hdre but

:16:12. > :16:17.to look back and think I was part of getting this club back on the map

:16:18. > :16:19.and back up the leagues, th`t will make me feel very proud and

:16:20. > :16:27.hopefully my grandchildren very proud. This was in contrast to the

:16:28. > :16:33.struggle of Stevenage. Relegation from the one was confirmed following

:16:34. > :16:38.a 3`1 defeat at Bristol citx. There was an air of resignation around the

:16:39. > :16:43.club. Everybody for a now h`s been preparing for the job ahead.

:16:44. > :16:47.Clearing the decks, getting together and building what is on herd to make

:16:48. > :16:54.sure we get this club back to winning ways. Four years ago but I

:16:55. > :17:01.beat Luton to the conferencd title now they will lock horns next

:17:02. > :17:05.season. This club can definhtely move forward, especially with the

:17:06. > :17:09.foundations and has now. Big Afro has brought a family feel to the

:17:10. > :17:20.whole football grounds now. `` began after. With its fan base, wd can go

:17:21. > :17:31.further I think. `` with thhs gaffer. Few will want to face a

:17:32. > :17:34.revived Luton Town next season. So one promotion and one relegation

:17:35. > :17:43.confirmed but for lots of f`ns the waiting goes on. A quick rotnd up

:17:44. > :17:48.now with Shaun Peel. Ipswich's play`off hopes suffered a

:17:49. > :17:57.setback over the Easter weekend The lead twice thanks to goals but the

:17:58. > :18:04.visitors deserved their rew`rd. This deflected free kick secured ago ``

:18:05. > :18:11.secured a draw. Two penalties took his tallx to 29

:18:12. > :18:17.for the season. Colchester `re walking a tightrope, just one point

:18:18. > :18:23.from Easter. This goalless draw at Crewe. One manager says one win from

:18:24. > :18:35.two will keep them up. `` their manager. So friends had just about

:18:36. > :18:39.secured their play`off placd at the top. Courtesy of one nil win at

:18:40. > :18:44.Accrington Stanley. If you're a cycling fan, 2004 looks

:18:45. > :18:46.good. The Tour de France passes through Cambridgeshire and Dssex in

:18:47. > :18:49.July and before that there's something else to look forw`rd to.

:18:50. > :18:53.The first ever Woman's Tour of Britain is now just two weeks away.

:18:54. > :18:57.The best female riders in the world and five days of racing. And the

:18:58. > :19:06.organisers hope it will help put women's facing on an equal footing

:19:07. > :19:10.with the men. Cyclists freewheeling into berries

:19:11. > :19:19.and Edmonds after testing a section of the women's course. In the pack,

:19:20. > :19:25.Emma Trott, sister of Laura Trott. What do you think of the cotrse

:19:26. > :19:30.where is my it is up and down and rolling. People think it is flat

:19:31. > :19:34.here but it is not. How important is the women's tour for the sport?

:19:35. > :19:40.Mathers is the only word yot can use for that. It is the first ever

:19:41. > :19:45.women's tour of Britain. Thdy will be reading for the same prize money

:19:46. > :19:51.as men. It will be massive for women, not just for those r`cing but

:19:52. > :19:58.at grassroots level. The disparity between women and men in sport is

:19:59. > :20:04.shocking. Less than half of 1% of sports sponsorship goes to women and

:20:05. > :20:07.we want to change that in the UK. We have taken everything which happens

:20:08. > :20:15.in the men's tour and copying it for the women's tour. Writers lhke Tanya

:20:16. > :20:21.say it is about time. Tanya is a landscape article `` landsc`pe

:20:22. > :20:25.architect but says she is ddtermined to become a professional wrhter She

:20:26. > :20:30.says the level of competition is incredibly high. You just h`ve to go

:20:31. > :20:33.out there and watch the professionals when this tour comes

:20:34. > :20:40.through. Watch what the womdn put themselves through to see that we

:20:41. > :20:46.have as good as the men. Thd first stage in May the 7th ends in

:20:47. > :20:53.Northampton. Stage two ends in Bedford. Stage three ends in

:20:54. > :21:00.Clacton. Stage four ends in Welwyn Garden City. The two ends in Bury St

:21:01. > :21:03.Edmunds. Move over Sir Bradley, it is time women's cycling got the

:21:04. > :21:09.intention `` got the attenthon it deserves. Some nice pictures of

:21:10. > :21:13.those mountains in Suffolk. Newmarket is getting ready for one

:21:14. > :21:16.of the most important weekends in the racing calendar the 1,000 and

:21:17. > :21:19.2,000 Guineas. Trainers comd from all over the world to pit their

:21:20. > :21:23.rising stars against one another. But the favourite is a local filly `

:21:24. > :21:31.trained by one of the most experienced men in the business

:21:32. > :21:35.Emerging from her stables in Newmarket this morning, could this

:21:36. > :21:39.be a superstar horse in the making? Rizeena is her name and she is

:21:40. > :21:44.favourite to take the 1000 Guineas classic a week on Sunday. That could

:21:45. > :21:47.bring a lot of pressure, but her trainer has ways of dealing with

:21:48. > :21:58.those worries. That doesn't make any difference. I don't shoot it with
