:00:00. > :00:00.firepower in military exercises That is all from the BBC
:00:00. > :00:10.Hello and welcome to Look E`st. In the programme tonight: More
:00:11. > :00:14.developments in the 22 year hunt for Johanna Young's killer. A sdcond
:00:15. > :00:17.arrest in two days. The police confirm an Uzi m`chine
:00:18. > :00:20.gun and an AK47 have been sdized from the home of a parish council
:00:21. > :00:26.chairman charged with firearms offences. Over the days there's been
:00:27. > :00:30.the bomb squad and lots of fire engines. Police helicopters, things
:00:31. > :00:33.like that. Underground with Crossrail. What the
:00:34. > :00:43.?15 billion project means for commuters in our region.
:00:44. > :00:56.And the magic flute crafted from the carnage of the First World War.
:00:57. > :01:03.Good evening. First tonight, another development in the 22 year hunt to
:01:04. > :01:06.find the killer of Johanna Xoung. It was just two days before Christmas
:01:07. > :01:12.1992 when Johanna disappeardd from her home in Watton, near Thdtford.
:01:13. > :01:16.Yesterday we reported that ` man in his 40s had been arrested. Today, a
:01:17. > :01:19.second arrest. This time a lan in his 30s, who lives in the area
:01:20. > :01:26.around Thetford. Kim Riley hs in Watton now.
:01:27. > :01:29.Johanna's parents' agony began just two days before Christmas after she
:01:30. > :01:33.left the family home. She w`s seen that evening, heading towards Watton
:01:34. > :01:37.town centre. She didn't turn up for her paper round the next dax. She
:01:38. > :01:48.came into the doorway and asked 'is it all right if I go out'? @nd. . I
:01:49. > :01:55.just said yes. You said don't be late, didn't you? Yes. She went off.
:01:56. > :01:58.It was on Boxing Day that a dog`walker found one of Joh`nna s
:01:59. > :02:02.trainers in undergrowth in ` remote spot on the outskirts of thd town.
:02:03. > :02:06.Her body was then found, partially clothed, covered in scratchds, lying
:02:07. > :02:09.face down in a frozen pond. A postmortem examination found she
:02:10. > :02:14.died from drowning and a fr`ctured skull. Today that area is more
:02:15. > :02:17.overgrown and shrouded in mhst, as was the original police
:02:18. > :02:20.investigation. Despite huge resources devoted to the murder
:02:21. > :02:28.hunt, the local policeman spoke of his frustration. We still rdmain
:02:29. > :02:33.mystified as to why people `re not coming forward with the quality of
:02:34. > :02:37.information we require. In God's name, you cannot protect thhs person
:02:38. > :02:42.forever. 21 years on, Robert and Carol Young made this appeal on Look
:02:43. > :02:48.East last Christmas. Somebody knows something and somebody knows who did
:02:49. > :02:51.it. Why can't they tell? Despite many false dawns down the ydars
:02:52. > :02:57.that appeal yielded significant new information, culminating in these
:02:58. > :03:05.latest arrests. The hunt for Johanna's killer goes on.
:03:06. > :03:09.An Uzi machine gun and an AK47 rifle have been seized from a farl which
:03:10. > :03:12.belongs to the chairman of ` parish council in Suffolk. James Arnold is
:03:13. > :03:15.facing four charges relating to firearms and two of assault. The
:03:16. > :03:18.police say their search of the property could last for weeks. Mike
:03:19. > :03:23.Liggins has spent the day in the village of Wyverstone, near
:03:24. > :03:26.Stowmarket. This is Pot Ash Lane just ottside
:03:27. > :03:30.the village of Wyverstone. Behind me in the distance, the house of Mr
:03:31. > :03:34.Arnold. This is as far as wd can get. As you can see there is a
:03:35. > :03:37.considerable amount of police activity here, and even mord
:03:38. > :03:44.activity in the field behind Mr Arnold's house in that direction. If
:03:45. > :03:47.Suffolk Police issued a statement today and it says that a significant
:03:48. > :03:52.amount of weapons have been recovered so far. The Bomb Disposal
:03:53. > :03:58.Squad has also carried out ` number of controlled explosions. This is
:03:59. > :04:02.the 13th day the police havd been here. They say they could bd here
:04:03. > :04:06.for another two weeks. This is a big police operation. In the fidld
:04:07. > :04:11.behind Mr Arnold's house, a dozen officers or more gather before
:04:12. > :04:16.resuming their search. Some are in forensic suits and masks. There s a
:04:17. > :04:20.mobile incident room and nulerous police vehicles. A Range Rover
:04:21. > :04:28.patrols the property's perileter, while a tent has been erectdd at the
:04:29. > :04:34.side of the house. Leo and Jess live next door. They've seen the constant
:04:35. > :04:39.comings and goings. The first thing that happened.. All these police
:04:40. > :04:45.cars went down the road. Arled police. They impounded the house, as
:04:46. > :04:48.such. Over the days there's been the bomb squad and lots of fire engines.
:04:49. > :04:54.Police helicopters, things like that. In the night they're back and
:04:55. > :04:57.forth. They have the spotlight because obviously they're doing a
:04:58. > :05:02.lot of searching in the evening rather than the day. James @rnold is
:05:03. > :05:07.chairman of the parish council. Eddie, who lives nearby, has known
:05:08. > :05:12.him for many years. Together they've served on the village hall
:05:13. > :05:17.committee. It's come as a total shock to everybody. People just
:05:18. > :05:24.can't believe that he would be involved in anything serious. Having
:05:25. > :05:27.found an AK47 assault rifle and an Uzi machine gun, Suffolk Police have
:05:28. > :05:33.been at pains to reassure pdople living in the area. They sahd in a
:05:34. > :05:37.statement that residents ard not at risk. James Arnold is due to appear
:05:38. > :05:42.before Bury St Edmunds Magistrates' on Monday to face the assault
:05:43. > :05:57.charges. He'll also be at Ipswich Crown Court on Thursday for the
:05:58. > :06:10.weapons charges. We hailed the report on the Johanna
:06:11. > :06:21.Young case. `` heard. I am at the graveyard were Johanna
:06:22. > :06:29.Young is bodied. `` buried. It says that she was tragically takdn from
:06:30. > :06:37.us. Let's update you on these arrests. A man in his 40s w`s
:06:38. > :06:45.arrested this morning. He is still being questioned by police. The man
:06:46. > :06:56.arrested in the Watton Deli` was released this morning pending
:06:57. > :06:59.further enquiries. `` Watton area. I spoke to Johanna Young's father and
:07:00. > :07:09.he said his heart pounded when he heard the news. They want to get
:07:10. > :07:14.closure and draw a line unddr this. Thank you.
:07:15. > :07:17.Essex Police say they'll be out in Colchester tonight, on the four`week
:07:18. > :07:20.anniversary of the murder of James Attfield. The father of fivd of was
:07:21. > :07:23.found near Castle Park in Colchester early on the 29th of March. On
:07:24. > :07:26.Wednesday, a 27`year`old local man was arrested in connection with the
:07:27. > :07:35.murder. He's since been bailed, along with a 27`year`old wolan.
:07:36. > :07:39.Network Rail let the media dxplore a new tunnel system deep bene`th East
:07:40. > :07:43.London today. Crossrail is Durope's biggest construction project and is
:07:44. > :07:54.due to open in 2018. `` 2018. Alex Dunlop reports now on what ht means
:07:55. > :07:59.for commuters in our region. Boaring through the bars of London. There
:08:00. > :08:11.are cameras were let in tod`y to see how this project is progressing
:08:12. > :08:14.This is a key point for East London. It is the meeting point for trains
:08:15. > :08:23.running to the west of London and the East. So why would this train
:08:24. > :08:26.hurtling along 26 miles of brand new tunnels underneath London bd
:08:27. > :08:30.relevant to us here in the Dast Well, let's take a look at Crossrail
:08:31. > :08:33.from above. It'll start herd at Shenfield in Essex and allow rail
:08:34. > :08:36.travellers to connect directly to stations west of London without
:08:37. > :08:39.having to go in to the capital. Crucially, it'll provide a direct
:08:40. > :08:46.link from the East to this spur here ` Heathrow Airport. For passengers
:08:47. > :08:57.and parts of a six it can mdan really simple and direct johnnies.
:08:58. > :09:07.`` journeys. Much easier jotrneys. When they get to London as luch
:09:08. > :09:18.easier. `` it is much easier. 2 tunnels are being dog. `` dtg. The 6
:09:19. > :09:28.million tonnes of clay that they excavate will be one of the largest
:09:29. > :09:39.in Europe. I always have to pinch myself because it is a marrhage made
:09:40. > :09:44.in heaven. It is a great synergy. Back on the ground, commuters from
:09:45. > :09:51.Essex will be the fast to use Crossrail in 2019. `` the fhrst
:09:52. > :09:55.Part of the new A11 Elveden bypass in Suffolk should open on Monday
:09:56. > :09:59.morning. Only one lane will be open in each direction and there will be
:10:00. > :10:02.a speed limit of 40 miles an hour. The new road should be fullx open
:10:03. > :10:05.between Thetford and Mildenhall by the end of the year.
:10:06. > :10:09.Nearly 150 people from Suffolk who were affected by the tidal surge
:10:10. > :10:11.last year have now applied for help from a special fund. The local
:10:12. > :10:15.district councils are offerhng so`called 'Repair and Renew' grants
:10:16. > :10:18.which are worth up to ?5,000 each. The applications came from 020
:10:19. > :10:21.people in Waveney and 27 in Suffolk Coastal. It will take an estimated
:10:22. > :10:24.?5 million to repair and restore the seafront at Lowestoft alone. The
:10:25. > :10:28.government's Repair and Rendw Scheme was launched on the 1st of @pril.
:10:29. > :10:31.Still to come tonight: Big latches in the football tomorrow, and a
:10:32. > :10:34.semifinal in the rugby tonight. Plus the wonderful story behind this
:10:35. > :10:35.flute... 100 years after it was created in the most unlikelx of
:10:36. > :10:52.places. The UK Independence Party continues
:10:53. > :10:55.its European election campahgn tonight with a public meeting in
:10:56. > :10:58.Great Cornard. They launched their campaign before Easter, but this
:10:59. > :11:01.week the other parties have been queuing up to criticise thel. Of
:11:02. > :11:04.course, the European elections are on the 22nd of May. Most of this
:11:05. > :11:08.region is in the Eastern constituency, which has sevdn seats
:11:09. > :11:11.up for grabs. Last time UKIP won two, but then one of their LEPs
:11:12. > :11:15.defected to the Tories. We'll hear from the other one in a momdnt. But
:11:16. > :11:24.first, this from our political editor Deborah McGurran.
:11:25. > :11:27.It's been a week of campaign launches for the European elections
:11:28. > :11:34.and there's one party that's on everybody's lips... UKIP. A vote for
:11:35. > :11:38.UKIP is a vote for the statts quo. It's a vote for a grumpy re`ction to
:11:39. > :11:44.the EU without actually sayhng 'let's be serious about it'. There
:11:45. > :11:48.will be very few people deb`ting whether to vote Green or UKHP. UKIP
:11:49. > :11:51.is a problem for the Tories and the right wing of the Labour Party.
:11:52. > :11:54.UKIP's been holding meetings across the region and it's confident it can
:11:55. > :11:57.improve on last time. In 2009, UKIP's vote share, along with the
:11:58. > :12:07.Conservatives and Lib Dems, was virtually unchanged from 2004. It
:12:08. > :12:12.was Labour who suffered then, at the time of the MPs' expenses scandal,
:12:13. > :12:15.losing a third of their share. UKIP euro`sceptics, all they want to do
:12:16. > :12:19.is to play to prejudice and xenophobia back home to get
:12:20. > :12:22.headlines in tabloid newspapers They do no real work in the
:12:23. > :12:32.constituency or for the constituency. The Lib Dems, who
:12:33. > :12:40.launched their campaign in Colchester, are after the 30% of
:12:41. > :12:43.voters who want to stay in the EU. For far, far too long, the
:12:44. > :12:46.isolationists have got away with pedalling their myths, their fears,
:12:47. > :12:56.their falsehoods without anx challenge whatsoever. Althotgh UKIP
:12:57. > :12:58.won two seats last time round, one of their MEPs defected to the
:12:59. > :13:01.Conservatives shortly afterwards ` leaving Norfolk farmer Stuart Agnew
:13:02. > :13:14.as their sole representativd in the European Parliament. This ydar's
:13:15. > :13:17.candidates hope to remedy that. The UKIP MEP Stuart Agnew is in
:13:18. > :13:26.Great Cornard now, where thd meeting will start in just a few minutes. Mr
:13:27. > :13:36.Agnew... They said that the doodle you work in the constituencx? ``
:13:37. > :13:48.they do no real work. He is talking nonsense. I always give priority to

:14:21. > :14:30.this region say that if we pulled out of Europe it would be a barrier

:16:24. > :16:27.also. Thank you. In sport, it's a crucial wedkend for
:16:28. > :16:32.a number of our teams either battling for promotion or to avoid
:16:33. > :16:35.relegation. And in rugby, Northampton Saints could make their
:16:36. > :16:38.second final of the season hf they beat Harlequins tonight in the
:16:39. > :16:40.European Challenge Cup. Jamds Burridge looks ahead.
:16:41. > :16:43.There are notable landmarks in a sporting season, particularly at
:16:44. > :16:46.this time of year. For Northampton Saints, tonight could be ond of
:16:47. > :16:49.them. The semifinal of the Duropean Challenge Cup against Harlepuins,
:16:50. > :16:53.more of which we'll have in a moment. But it is a massive sporting
:16:54. > :16:56.weekend. If you're a snooker fan, you've got the World Championships
:16:57. > :16:59.at the Crucible, featuring ` number of our players across the rdgion. If
:17:00. > :17:03.you're a football fan, thesd next two weekends are key ` parthcularly
:17:04. > :17:06.if you're one of the five f`cing a promotion or relegation battle. Cue
:17:07. > :17:08.our reporter, then, who's bden catching up with a
:17:09. > :17:12.Norwich`supporting snooker fan, finding out what it takes to win
:17:13. > :17:15.big. Snooker professional Barry Pinches
:17:16. > :17:19.not only knows how to read the table, he knows every trick shot in
:17:20. > :17:23.the book. He's been in the game for over 20 years. But for his Canaries
:17:24. > :17:27.to escape relegation, something special will have to happen in the
:17:28. > :17:30.next three games. Obviously, Man United have had a terrible season,
:17:31. > :17:34.let's face it, by their standards. They're sixth or seventh in the
:17:35. > :17:38.league so I think that's gohng to be a really good chance for Norwich to
:17:39. > :17:43.pick up some points. I think they should be very encouraged bx their
:17:44. > :17:47.performance at Liverpool. For Norwich this weekend, the mhghty
:17:48. > :17:50.Reds stand in their path, btt United haven't been so clinical thhs
:17:51. > :17:53.season, and now Moyes has lost his job, the Canaries are hoping they
:17:54. > :17:57.can beat their nine`game unbeaten run at Old Trafford. We're playing a
:17:58. > :18:01.good team with good players, who have probably not done as wdll as
:18:02. > :18:05.they would have liked to have done this season ` hence what's happened
:18:06. > :18:11.this week. But again, we just have to focus on what we can do. We'll be
:18:12. > :18:17.going there with a game plan, trying to cause Man United a probldm. As
:18:18. > :18:21.for the Championship, Ipswich Town still have the chance of a play`off
:18:22. > :18:25.spot ` the Blues can't miss in their final two games if they want to make
:18:26. > :18:33.the top six. I think we're being consistent. I expect them to keep
:18:34. > :18:38.the same mentality and performances. If we play as well as we have done
:18:39. > :18:42.in the last two games then we can go to Burnley and win. If we drop our
:18:43. > :18:45.standards, no matter what Btrnley have been doing this week, we'll
:18:46. > :18:48.have a tough afternoon. A whn for Peterborough away at Shrewsbury
:18:49. > :18:52.would secure them a play`off spot in League One. MK Dons take thd trip to
:18:53. > :18:55.Rotherham ` they're safely hn mid`table. At the foot, Colchester
:18:56. > :19:00.still have work to do at Brdntford ` win and they could save thelselves
:19:01. > :19:04.from relegation. At this st`ge of the season points are important
:19:05. > :19:09.We've got two games to go. We know exactly what we have to do ` if we
:19:10. > :19:12.match or better the teams bdlow us we'll stay in this division.
:19:13. > :19:16.Stevenage sign off their hole campaign against Walsall, h`ving
:19:17. > :19:20.already suffered the dreaded drop. There are still highs and lows to
:19:21. > :19:24.play for in League Two ` Sotthend have missed the play`offs the last
:19:25. > :19:26.few years. A win at Fleetwood would secure their spot this year.
:19:27. > :19:29.Northampton could need snookers at the business end of the divhsion,
:19:30. > :19:35.they're second bottom and play Dagenham Redbridge tomorrow.
:19:36. > :19:40.So back to the European Challenge Cup. It's grey, miserable... Perfect
:19:41. > :19:44.conditions! One of the Saints' coaches has popped out of the
:19:45. > :19:48.changing room to join us. Alan, form has been patchy recently. As a
:19:49. > :19:54.coach, how do you find form back? You have to focus on the positives.
:19:55. > :19:58.Yeah, results haven't quite gone our way, but in terms of looking
:19:59. > :20:04.forward, that's what we want to do. We want to build momentum. Xou talk
:20:05. > :20:08.about building detail. To us that's a foreign science. What does it
:20:09. > :20:12.actually mean? The detail is the homework we do behind the scenes. We
:20:13. > :20:23.look at the videos and we encourage the players to do that. When they
:20:24. > :20:31.train, and put in the work, we want them to take it into the gale. How
:20:32. > :20:36.difficult is it to compete on so many fronts? I think as a coaching
:20:37. > :20:51.staff, every game we play wd want to win. Everything. Every game. We want
:20:52. > :20:54.to win. Good luck tonight. We're going to finish by congratulating
:20:55. > :20:57.Greg Rutherford, the long jtmper from Milton Keynes. Not onlx is he
:20:58. > :21:00.the Olympic Champion, he's now the British record holder, jumphng .51
:21:01. > :21:08.metres in San Diego last night. Perfect preparation for the
:21:09. > :21:11.Commonwealth Games later thhs year. Finally tonight, how a thing of
:21:12. > :21:15.beauty was crafted amid the carnage of the First World War. It's a
:21:16. > :21:18.flute, thought to have been made by a soldier in the trenches using
:21:19. > :21:21.materials he found around hhm. The flute belongs to Andrew Fairley who
:21:22. > :21:25.lives in Felixstowe. He bought it from an antiques shop in 1963. On
:21:26. > :21:34.Sunday it will be centre st`ge at a special concert in Woodbridge.
:21:35. > :21:39.So I'm intrigued to find out, what's in the box? Well it's quite a unique
:21:40. > :21:42.musical instrument... Andrew Fairley is a gifted musician but evdn he
